iphone users get all the cool stuff!!!! - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Just found this http://www.ononesoftware.com/blog/2009/05/15/iphone-app-from-onone/, it looks usefull (to me anyway) shame I don't have an Iphone.
It's such a shame there aren't so many cool apps or well polished apps for WM6+ the hardware is probably capable of a lot but i feel apple users and android users too are getting all the fun, new apps all the time, nicely presented, stylish usefull (admittedly some less usefull than others)
I am a very visual person, i'm a photographer and I design websites and dabble in a bit of graphic UI design sometimes, and I find a lot of apps for my phone are visually dull, visually lacking in inspiration and usefull as some may be (currently using pocketwit a lot) they just don't compete with shiny apple/android apps.
The screen shot mock ups for the new HTC Hero look like they are trying to hop onboard the iphone app/widget train and look nice but I tried out a host of different twitter clients for my TP2 before I went for pocketwit (which I can theme a little) but ditched them partly because they looked dull. It's like finding a website that someone created which is the most usefull website you could ever use...but they built it using badly structured tables with garish bouncing animated giffs and wrote it in the late 90's using MS frontpage.
sorry, it's late and i'm a little tired and i felt it had to be said...

bah why not use remote desktop on the TP2 with EOS Utility on the laptop and an adhoc connection between the two. Thats what I do... live preview and all...

If the software that hurts your visual esthetics is freeware, I would suggest that you contact the developer and offer him your help on polishing up the UI. This is meant serious. As being a hobby developer myself, I sometimes find it hard to create the gui in aspects of esthetic. I make it functional from my point of view but it's not looking nice.
On the other site, you just might want to get an iphone or android...
just my 2ct.

offering to glam up apps is an option of course, this was the last ui theme i designed...quite a while ago now but it started a big following of people trying to port it to other music player apps which was quite cool.

I love my TP2 and glossy and refined as the iphone and android phones are they just don't cut it with my business and working requirements.

See that link you posted earlier ir803? I don't think it's that impressive. Read the detail, you need to hook a laptop up to the camera over USB then the iPhone application connects to the PC.
You can already do this on the TP2. Just run the same PC-camera software and access it via remote desktop or VNC. If they offer a web interface to it then just connect over the web in your phones browser.
That's the difference between the TP2 and the iPhone. On the latter you can do what someone else has specifically allowed you. On the TP2 you can use generic tools to do just about anything.
But yeah, the aesthetic side of it is poor. Most of the apps I run are reasonably polished but there are a few uglies I use such as PuTTY and VxUtil just because their great functionality outweighs the visual manure that is their UI.

Running Windows Mobile on iPhone...it needs to be done!!!

so i was looking at the many iphone knock offs and personally i am not impressed with the hardware, but as i am a pc and not a mac i will never ever use the Mac OSX operating system without an overwhelming feeling of shame as though i have just cheated on my wife; not that i have and would know what that feels like but you get my drift.
my point is gentlemen that we need to collect our talents and intelligence and move toward a break through in modding. I am currently running SNN Lite Edition and am very pleased with it. Upon exploring the OS, i realized that there exist the possibility to expand upon this work and take it to new heights.
to begin with as i said earlier i am running WM6.1 SNN Lite edition, 3rd party apps include SPB Mobile Shell II, Wisbar Advance 3, Advance Config, Network Wizard, Resco Explorer and Photo Viewer, among others. The only 2 of the apps that i mention that have anything to do with what we are and will be discussing are WisBar Advance 3 and SPC MS II.
take a look at the following screen shots, photoshoped so dnt ask me for the ROM i haven't created it...heck i wouldn't even know where to start;

i mean all we're really talking about here is a mobile version of bootcamp or something to the effect of creating partitions on the iphone hard-drive and then booting into the windows mobile and delete the iphone rom or better yet since one would have to spend so much on buying the device then one could have both OS's running...choosing to booting into one or the other.
But again i wuldnt know where to start so if any of you genii could figure out how to do this then i can assure you, you would go down in modding history.
jus for the hell of it, someone in Development and Hacking started a thread entitled "MUST SEE" about how he found an "iPhone" that runs both the iPhone rom and WM6
it's definitely some kind of chinese iClone obviously.
i suppose the problem here would be drivers for the screen.
also, a whole bunch of the features wouldn't work out that well(visual voicemail, accelerometer)
The only real upside I see is the hardware and that is only until the new devices like the Xperia1 come out.
For pure geek factor I will admit that it would be the bee's knee's though.
So...
Any one seriously consider tackling this on? I wish I had the knowledge to do it, because I would in a HEARTBEAT.
EDIT: Anyone see this yet? Thoughts?
http://solomobi.com/viewproduct.asp?pro_id=1364&page=1
actually it's an iphone...i simply photoshoped screenshots of my phone onto it. i'm running WM6.1 the screen ou see there is Dredd's mobile shell theme for mobile shell 2 and of course the taskbar is vista pocket 2 running on wisbar advance 3...and a WMP11 skin.
but you see my point here...however you want to customize your windows mobile device you can...which you cant do with an iphone...
lemme drop some research some you:

http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2008/04/23/a-powerpc-in-your-iphone/
dang this iclones seem 2 have better thing than the iphone i mean dual simcard slots, cameras and bluetooth, and running wm6... apple should take some notes...
impossible
Running windows mobile/windowsCE is completely impossible from a end user/hacker point of view for the iphone let alone ANY device that does not run WM/CE. it all comes down to drivers, and the developers(like HTC, Gigabyte...) makes them.
You have to understand each WM ROM is custom made for each device by manufacturers. WM/CE is fully componentised from ground up right down to including keyboard support, so only minimal drivers are included in the ROM to make it small.
So unless you can do programming in low level(010010101010) and have complete access to hardware and chip design then it is impossible to have it boot WM natively.
btw, we are hackers(or some of us are), and we *might* be able to make a device emulator and just emulate WM/CE like on the PC. of course, currently thats next to nothing - as we need an opensource/free emulator for WM/CE that does not exist.
the only way to make it real and feasible is VNC. They did the same thing with Android-on-WM(and i think it works great).
the screen resolution of the iphone is absolute incompatible.

Unlock screen skin

The htc HD is an amazining piece of technology as we all agree, and as I've seen from this forum people are really making the most of it by being creative and making everthing that wasnt quite up to scratch better (the skin for the calculator, new apps etc). Though one thing I have yet to see which is also something I feel lets down the device astheticly is the unlock screen. we all know the one, it's part of windows mobile and looks as if it's been drawn on ms paint, a bit of a let down. I searched the forums, and other sites and seen the likes of throtle lock, and S2U2 but to be honest if I wanted something like an iPhone I would have got an iPhone. Idealily I'd love something that fits in with touchflo 3d, perhaps something resembling the phone dailer, and not a new lock program simply a skin for the old one. So I was wondering has anyone made such a thing or if not is anyone now interested in making one, I'm sure this will be something that will be highly popular with HTC users as it'll help the device look more complete and well rounded rather then seem like theres been bits overlooked by the developers.
below are the images of what we currently have and what I'd like it to resemble

Go for it!
Hell ya!
Why is it so difficult? I really like to see a simply remodified skin for the standard lockscreen. We have tons of skins for kinda everything (including senseless stuff).
For me it is very important to use the look, because if I loose my HD, nobody should call with it or read important stuff about work/privacy.
Hmpf.
Bye,
The Hopeless-one.
I have seen such a skin, but unfortunately it was on the kaiser and it was a wm6.5 rom. i will do a little digging myself see what pops up and what i can create...
watch this space!
leebaber, you've hit the nail on the head with this one!
I have always found it weird nobody has skinned the horrible lock screen!
A Manila-looking screen would look awesome
k1nn34r, I'm watching eagerly!
if someone can solve this they'd be my HERO!!
HTC has done it somehow - it was much better looking e.g in Dutty's 3.3XT ROM - so its possible -I am not technical enough to know which files and how to change them.
Yes, the one in Dutty's V3.3 rom is perfect! I loved the skin that was used! Sadly it has been removed for whatever reason in his latest V3.4 rom. I've already requested (along with some others) a cab or the files to get it back to the skinned version.
Really hoping something comes of this as I to use the lock screen and prefer it over the Iphone look.
Will be keeping an eye on this thread!
I'm using Dutty's 3.3, how is this unlock screen much different from the original?

My thoughts exactly. Let's hope some form of 'skinning' is possible.
It's very ugly..Zune HD like....
Super ugly !!!
The homescreen is ugly, but the rest of the OS is very elegant and simple. You guys should watch demos on youtube you will be blown away. MS said that there gonna be tight on OEM customization, but I think their still gonna allow some customization for OEM to stand out from the competition. You guys REALLY need to try out the demo site: http://www.windowsphone7series.com/
i think also it is nice and clear - thats what i want - no overfilling with buttons and things from tabs and options on the "homescreen"
it remember me more of that TouchOne skin - where u move up - down - left and right to reach specific screens instead of using a tabsborder. people often forget that we use such phones also in cars and while walking - so we need a sure and failsafe surface with not to small buttons (at least less).
if anybody knows a good and fast! UI for Wm6.5 let me know - new sense is nice looking but still i search for something simplier to use/touch UI
First impressions...
It looks overly simplified, and more like an art project - or a set of 'design placeholders' that mark areas still needed to be finished in detail.
I question a lot of real-life interactivity with the device, it seems a little silly having the text of the hub cropped off screen.
It wouldn't surprise me if the the API's for this are very basic (aka. simple gadgets) - I have a feeling this isn't designed to run apps in the traditional sense.

New WP7 phones and link @ zune.net

The 3 "Kin" phones are up and have links @Zune.net
There are only 2 Kin phones. What is this third you are refering to?
Yep, sorry 2 phones... Sorry I was posting from my TP2 and only had a limited time to look at the article before heading off to work. The Two phones looked like 3 but the riser phone is shown twice.
They're also in the 'coming soon' section at mobiles.co.uk with pictures.
Doesn't look much like we've been led to believe WP7 looks like though...I could be wrong....could this perhaps be the lost version of Windows Mobile instead?

Damn, it looks sweet. I haven't seen all these features before.
But...
What if I don't want to tweet, and do Facebook. Is there a possibility to socialize with other sites?
hold up, hold up....
So Microsoft Kin is completely different than Windows Phone 7?
They say the Kin is loosely built on Windows Mobile...?
scratches my head wondering, *KIN is not KIN phone.. but actually is ZUNE PHONE!* without doubt...

It's built on CE6 (which is shared with the Zune HD and WP7). In the future, MS's plan is to merge the two platforms together with the Kin interface running on top of a future version of WP (think MotoBlur running on top of Android)

Frog Design launcher for Sharp Aquos phones

I’ve just recently started getting into Android themes, and while I am usually strongly opposed to manufacturer skinning, something I found today while looking through some Android theme websites caught my eye. Sharp isn’t really a company that we usually asssociate with Android phones, and only remember the company from their TV spots starring George Takei. However, the Japanese electronics company has entered into a partnership with a design studio called Frog to make a custom UI for their Android phones, and the proposed result looks quite impressive.
In case you haven’t heard of Frog Design, which I hadn’t until today, they are a German design company based in San Francisco. Why am I telling you this? Well, Frog Design isn’t just any design company, they actually worked for Apple and designed the Apple IIc in addition to several other Macintosh models, which should get them at least a little bit of credibility. Of course, that was in the now distant past, and they have now switched to designing on Android. As I mentioned, their current project is a partnership with Sharp, where they are working on making something called the Feel UX.
In a change from most manufacturer interfaces, Feel UX actually looks like a piece of software that is more than just a regular theme. Yes, the locscreen, notification bar, icons, and nearly everything else have been themed, but the real change is in the homescreen. Instead of a regular homescreen, Feel UX uses three categories: apps, widgets, and shortcuts, to organize all your content. I can’t speak to how well this will actually work, but I can say that the interface does look like something that I would at least like to try out. Sharp is touting the real-time weather, neutral colors, and streamlined hoescreen as the main features, but doesn’t yet have a finished product yet. Instead, the Feel UX is a work in progress that should ship on Sharp’s new Aquos phones later this year.
As I’ve made clear in the past, I’m no fan of manufacturer interfaces, but this one actually looks interesting. I still don’t think it should be the irreversible default on a phone, but it is something that I would install as an addon to a ROM or even a full on ROM to give it a try. It is one of the few Android UIs I have seen that does something different (other than Chamelion) and actually reminds me a little bit of the Windows Phone 7 Metro interface. Whatever the reason, I’m actually looking foreward to see what Sharp and Frog Design manage to do with this project, and will be waiting to see if there is a way to install and try the Feel UX on other devices. You can see more of the concept in the video below, or follow the source link to Frog Designs page on the project.
video: http://vimeo.com/43224490
Sharp Corporation collaborated with frog's team of designers and technologists to create “Feel UX”, a new Android smartphone experience that is easy to use, highly personalized, and visually stunning.
“Feel UX” for Sharp’s AQUOS smartphones will be available in Japan during the summer of 2012 and include the following features:
-Personalized and innovative lock-screen experience, allowing users to browse photos and widgets without unlocking the devices
-Real-time weather display motion experience and animation
-Desirable, gender-neutral palette and visuals
-Streamlined, curated home space to smoothly manage applications, widgets, and shortcuts
