T-mobile upgrade? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I know that Touch Pro2 price on t-mo has not been annouced.
I have been with t-mobile for 2 years, so my contract expires anyday now.
I was wondering about upgrade pricing, are the upgrade prices usually the same as for new customers? or do they try to rip off their current customers?
also my plan with t-mobile is a family plan, two phones. Can both phones be upgraded? or is the upgrade only for one phone? One phone will be upgraded to TP2, other to something more compact.
Last question, when doing upgrade, you don't have to return old phones?

No you don't return you old phones and you can upgrade both phones to whatever you want.
I don't like the way they have made it to where people have to get the data plan for upgrades. They started that crap with the release of the G1. Even though I have a data plan, doesn't mean everyone wants it or needs it. Just another way for these networks to make more $$$..

this is what i have seen in many places as well.
where did you get the 299 poetry?

T-Mobile Reps said they don't know it could be from 250 to 300.
3G Required No Matter What.

You can check over at TmoNews.com. I read around on a couple on different sites, and the most consistent price estimate I've seen is 299.99 on a 2-year contract. Or 349.99 on a 1-year. aanndd I don't think 3G is required. :]. The data plan is for sure, though. I got to preview the Touch Pro2 and all its goodness at my local Tmo store. I asked the Rep about the data plan, and he confirmed it is required.
In my opinion, it's well worth it. I might have to sell my Shadow and possibly my G1 for the Touch Pro2. When you're 17 and work at a theme park, money doesn't always go too far. Gonna be a shame to see my G1 go. I've taken a liking to Android, but it's no competition for the Touch Pro2. Gotta do what you gotta do. Anyways, there's my two cents.

^ agree that these prices from the tmobile blog are about as good as it gets for this awesome ppc! Let us know if anyone hears about any pre-orders!!

Anyone want to bet that the price will be over 250?

price is going to be $299.99 w/ 2yr, each phone line is eligible for a full discount upgrade after 22 months and the data can be taken off after 90 days with out any contract complications (its been done with the g1 multiple times)

no, i mean the 2 year contract price, the same price you would pay if you were a new customer... in really rare cases customer care is able to take off 5-10% the 2 year price but that is really rare

Correct
Not anymore
All data or All-in-One devices REQUIRE a data plan of either $24.99 or $34.99 and it's CONTRACTED! Even if you decide to use another device that doesn't require data, the data plan can not be removed.
The ONLY way to get around the data plan is to pay full retail for the device and that goes for any device. (Effective as of 06-03-2009)

Thats crap! I hope AT&T doesn't start that BS or I'm going to have to start paying ridiculous amounts for my phones on eBay! Why doesn't stupid HTC put all the bands in at once? Why DONT they want people importing them? I'm sure they make more profit on the unbranded ones AND they don't have to warranty imports.

T-mobile TP2 - 149.99

Saw this on WinMo twitter( http://twitter.com/windowsmobile)
http://wmdeals.com/
It`s pretty scarce on detail, I guess it`s with 3 year contract. I figure I would post it for future T-Mo user...
EDIT: it's on a two year Contract.
If anyone gives it a try post your experience!
I used this deal back when I got my T-Mobile Shadow. I plan on doing so again for the Touch Pro 2, probably tomorrow. I'll post about how it goes!
A 3-year contract? People actually sign those? Aren't you (in the end) paying more than double?
That site doesn't even mention contracts... Where did you get the 3 year contract from?
It will require a 2 year contract, T-Mobile doesn't offer 3 year contracts.
Great deal
I already have a family plan that is maxed out (5 lines). Between myself, my wife, my 18 year old colege freshman, my 16 year old (HS junior), and 14 almost 15 yr old (sophmore) we were maxed out.
I ordered with this promotion getting a 2-line family plan (all activation, etc waived) and getting it for $300 + tax, etc for 2 of them shipped. Note that the promotion also includes other phones and the @Home package if you are so inclined. Awesome deal.
Basically, I am spending between $50 and $150 than many people and getting two of these phones for it. I had to get the new data plan. I have the old grandfathered $19.99 plan on my other phones and $10 unlimited family messaging plans... wish I could use the same plan.

So you now have 2 more lines than you used to have? Doesn't that cost about $70 more per month? That is $1680 for 2 years, FAR more than the difference of just buying 2 unsubsidized Touch Pro2s...
Would someone explain how this works, if you are already an existing T-Mobile customer? Do I have to call T-Mobile and cancel, then call this other number and sign back up? I know this deal saves $200, but this seems like a lot of trouble to go through. Plus, how do you keep your current phone number?
The number is T-Mobile Business Direct. They'll be able to handle everything on the phone with you.

My bad, I just assumed it would be the longest contract since it didn't mentioned anything.
I wasn't aware that T-mobile didn't have them, we sure as hell have them in Canada!
Thanks for the correction, good luck to the T-Mo guys, sound like a very descent deal!
T-mobile OEM on the AT&T network?
I'm wondering, if I buy the T-mo version, can I just SIM-unlock it and run it on the AT&T network, or will the radio ROM not work on the AT&T band? Any thoughts? sick of waiting for AT&T, and they're probably gonna fark up the keyboard anyhow.

Yeah 3 year contracts would suck! No U.S. carries have 3 year contracts. I actually select 1 year contract when I upgrade. I pay the same price as 2-year because I have AT&T Premier (you have access to Premier if you have a discount from your place of employment). This way I get to upgrade to the latest HTC phone every year. And every year around this time is horrible waiting for the next one to come out!

Lucky you, I mostly have to get unlocked phone which are expensive, no contract, but lotsa cash =/
Life was easier before 3G. I will mostly get stuck with crappy AT&T keyboard layout as well thought lol.
Called and ordered today, everything went down well
As an existing customer (off contract) my CS rep first offered to set up a new account (with a new phone#) or add an additional line to my existing account in order to take advantage of the deal. I asked if there was any way I could keep my # and get the deal, or if there was another deal somewhere in-between this and $350 the T-Mobile shops are asking.
She took a moment to check with her manager, who approved, and I got the deal with my current phone number, no problem. Also waived activation and added free shipping. Should have the phone by friday!
This is the 3rd or 4th time I've dealt with Business Direct instead of regular CS, and the folks there are amazing. Much <3 to Amy, my rep today

Nice! I played with the T-Mobile TP2 at my local T-Mobile store and I just can't wait to get my own! AT&T's version will supposedly release in October! So long!
I know most people hate the AT&T keyboard layout, but I prefer it.
Argh, perhaps I spoke too soon :/
The CS rep I spoke with had told me I should receive a confirmation e-mail along with a tracking # in my e-mail some time this afternoon, and that if I didn't I should call back to find out what was going on. So sure enough, no e-mail, so I called Business Direct back...
According to the rep I just spoke with, there was an "open order" on my account, but with no phone or contract details whatsoever. He could find no information about the voice/data plans I had set up, nor anything on the phone itself.
I intend to call back tomorrow, in the hopes that Amy (who had mentioned she was having trouble entering the data into the regular system and had to enter the information in manually(?)) has been able to clear this up. My fear is that another CS rep won't be able to give me the same deal Amy was able to work out with her supervisor. Bah!
Just called in and ordered a new line for our family plan and got the 149.99 price. The rep explained that since the TP2 orders have to be done manually it would take an extra day for the order to be completed. Phone should arrive 3-5 days.
Since I am already out of contract I will just cancel my current line once the Tp2 arrives. No Web plan was required to get this deal either. Just unlimited text messages which we already have on the family plan.
That's good to know, Kable. I'll give it some extra time to make its way through the system then

did any of the folks who already order it ask if 1 yr contract was possible?

AT&T Pricing, better off buying off-contract ?

It looks to me like I'm going to be money ahead to pay full retail on the Tilt 2 next month.
I'm on Media Net ($15.00 / month). If you buy on-contract, AT&T is going to force you on to a $30.00 / month data plan, so that's an extra $180.00 a year.
By my math, if I keep the phone longer than 13 months, I'm better off paying full retail of $499.00 for it and staying on Media Net.
Thoughts ?
The AT&T news keeps on a'comin' this weekend. After getting an idea of when the HTC Touch Pro 2 (aka Tilt 2) may be released, and then seeing it show up in inventory, the Boy Genius Report now says it has pricing information for it, as well as a couple of other anticiapted phones. Let's do this the easy way:
* Tilt 2: $299 after contract and $50 rebate; $499 retail.
* Touch Diamond 2: Codenamed the Warhawk and already seen at the FCC, will be known as the Pure and will go for $199 after contract and $40 rebate. Retails for $349.
I'm thinking about this too. Apparently though it doesn't matter if you buy it on or off contract. The new policy is if you get a new Smartphone (AT&T branded, however you do) after September 6, they can and "will" change you to the appropriate data plan. I don't know if they will actually enforce it for people who buy them off eBay and off contract.
What I am really surprised about is the Diamond 2 is only $350 off contract! That is dirt cheap! They go for around $500 on eBay!

The announcement about enforcing smart phone data plans was for people who didn't already have a smart phone I believe.
I'm hopeful I'll be able to keep my contract as is and get the 2 year price but no rebate. I'll be ordering through premiere though, so its usually more lax about the contract stuff.

I don't see how they could unless they are going to do some IMEA enforcement, and they never have before.
I guess ebay is going to be the way to go.
there are different ways to do this:
1- if you are able to, buy from premier. they dont ask you to change any data plan or anything
2- if you are unable to, buy it with contract, add the data plan. go home, put ur sim in your old phone (or any non-smartphone), call at&t and tell them you want to switch phones, and re-add the $15 medianet plan.
theres no point to buy it off contract if you can buy it w/contract

Well AT&T has lost so much money with the iPhone that they had to make it back somehow. Good luck with AT&T. I hope they work out better for you than they did for me.
I think the particulars on this one are what's going to matter. I could purchase it on my wife's number .. she's got no data plan at all. I wonder if ATT is going to force you on a data plan if you don't currently have one now (and don't want one)
Again, worst case scenario I can pick one up on ebay and avoid their new policy but it would be nice to know for sure what the policy is.
They are supposedly going to do IMEI checking for all phones. They already do with the iPhone.
I can go all the way through checkout until I confirm my order on Premier and it doesn't ask me to switch data plans. If you have access to it, use it.

Premier is AT&T's service for corporate/business customers. For instance my employer has an 'employee' discount on plans, handsets, accessories, activation etc for personal accounts, though I've never noticed a price difference on phones. Usually just cheaper plans and better customer service.

When I bought my Tilt (1) they had me increase my plan too, but the guy told me that I dont have to keep it at the higher plan. He told me to wait 45 days, then call AT&T and switch it back down to the lesser plan. Worked just fine... Granted that was 2 years ago, so who knows if they changed their stance on that kind of thing...
AT&T Off Contract
My TP is about to die and I want to replace it. I prefer to get off contract and right now I have two concerns:
1. 3G speeds. Can I get it with a AU phone like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-HTC-TOUCH-P...ones?hash=item27ab9cfc19&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Will this phone really work at 3G speeds on ATT?
2. I'm also interested in WinMo 6.5 like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-TOUCH-PRO-2...ones?hash=item27abab1dc0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Does anyone on this site offer a ROM service?
Thx.
James
It only has UMTS850, not UMTS1900. That means it will work on some of AT&Ts 3G network but not all of it. Either the listed lied or didn't know that you need UMTS1900 to FULLY support AT&Ts 3G network. Just wait a bit, AT&Ts version will be out in less than a month. You can buy it retail for $500 off contract and probably less on eBay after it comes out.

A guy on brighthand was just doing a little juggling between an old iPhone and his current Nokia smartphone. He actually has a $30 smartphone data plan, but the point of his post was that after he undid a little iPhone issue, got his old 3G plan back up and running and put his sim back in his nokia, he immediately got a text informing him of his need for a smartphone data plan, and that one would be added for him if he failed to add it. They aren't ONLY checking the iPhone anymore.
They're definitely tightening things down. I doubt it is anywhere near airtight yet, but I'd be hesitant about using last year's workarounds.

I have this phone and it does only have 850 for 3g. For me it works just great because the area I live in has 850 for 90% of ATT 3g. You don't have to have the 1900 band to get "full" 3g it works on one or the other. But if your area doesn't use the 850 band then you won't get 3g. I agree, with the phone from ATT coming in one month it would be better to wait because you will save about $300.00 off retail.
My phone is unlocked and I have flashed Miri's v2.0 ROM, all works great and it is much faster than stock ROM. Once you get the ATT phone just HSPL and flash away the ATT bloat ROM.

Buying an unlocked T-Mobile TP2 for $400...

Seem like a good deal, is it not? Also, would it work with 3G/HSDPA on AT&T and Media Net?
A TmoUS TP2 WILL NOT work on AT&Ts 3G at all, just EDGE. If you're with AT&T, just buy their Tilt 2
Damn, it was just intriguing for me because I was going to trade my Fuze plus $100. Alright, I'll just try and sell the phone for $300-$250 and put it towards the full price . No upgrade till 10/1/10.
AT&T mentioned something about me getting the 2 year contract price on a new phone plus $75. Anyone ever heard of this?

For the TP2? I doubt it unless that's a new customer price. Existing customers upgrade price is usually significantly higher but i don't know how att uprgrades work. Usually they advertise lower prices for new customers to lure them into a 2 yr contract. TMobile new customers get it for $149 but for existing customers upgrade it's like $350! Should be the other way around if u ask me.

Sprint sucks, so a few questions

Just a few questions about Sprint.
Now, here is my question:
This phone well is nice.
Anyway, if I go to Sprint, do I HAVE to have a 2 year contract with them? They suck hard, reception in my area is balls(Though good at my house, bad at places where I go, it has at&T like service)
This phone also has the potential to become SEVERELY outdated in 2 years. (Mainly because being tide down to a 2 year contract is stupid, although my Iphone 3g doesn't feel too old even though it's been 2 years)
Not to mention snapdragons at 45nm are coming out at the end of this year.
So what is your input? Do I have to have a 2 year contract?
Also I plan on rooting this phone once the guy at grack releases the exploit.
I hope someone makes a stock Android available for this phone with Froyo.
Your only way out is to sell it to me. I'd be happy to take the phone off your hands and solve all of your problems
Seriously... PM me
Well lets just go through these one at a time...
1) You have a 30 day money back guarantee... USE IT! Take it everywhere you usually go, if the coverage is sub-par, take it back.
2) You do not have to start a 2 year contract - you can go month to month, but the do not offer subsidies on the phones if you do this. The retail cost on the Evo is $449.
3) If you sign a 2 year agreement, after 6 months of paying on time, you become a Premier Member which allows you to update your device at the 2 year price every year - with the addition of another year on your contract - it takes the 1 year and adds 1 more to it every time you do it.
4) The TV out features appear to be VERY limited at this point - videos and gallery only at launch. I'm sure the kind people here will have it rooted and figure out a way to get more through the TV, but for now, that's what we have.
Overall, I switched from Verizon to Sprint in Feburary and couldn't be happier. My service is just as good. Customer service has been wonderful and my bill is half what it was on Verizon.
All I can do is stress that 30 day trial period. Make sure you take the phone everywhere that you go - and then some!

I hope you did your research OR you have personally gotten month-by-month with Sprint.
Many people on other forums have reported calling Sprint and asking for month-by-month or 1-year contracts. My girlfriend being one of them. However, Sprint has told everyone that all plans must come with a 2-year contract. It seems that Sprint does things differently than T-mobile.
If you are not just speaking hypothetically, we would love to hear more about this "month to month" plan that you mention.
Where are you at with bad Sprint reception, mine just roams on other networks, I always have signal and I live in a small town in the south. As for the iPhone 4g, I thought it had the same internals as the iPad.

I believe the plan they're referring to isn't really a plan.. but if you've already served your 2 year contract, and remain with sprint, then it becomes month-to-month on whatever plan you had before.

So the EVO will be "SEVERELY outdated in 2 years", but the iphone has a lot of speculation?
lol what do you think that iphone will be like in 2 years? That's right, Apple will have released 2 more models after it.
That point is moot, both phones will be outdated in 2 years. Hell, both of them will be outdated by December of this year. They're phones, that's the nature of the beast.

As would I. I'm seriously considering paying the ETF on my AT&T contract. But there is ZERO chance I would ever be locked to Sprint for a year let alone two...
iphone = LOL please
yea if you enjoy a closed off OS
I have been with sprint for over 10years and really they have been one of the better for me..... I also had at&t and tmo through this same time and hated both of them more than sprint.....
AT&T are crooks and tmo just stinks, iphone is cool if your a fanboy but really it is quite bland to me.
I have had many phones with sprint and the only way I ever have a new commitment is if I get the phone at a discounted price.......I bought my hero from and individual and it did not reset my commitment, but that doesnt mean they do not require a commitment on the Google IO phones. They shouldnt imo, because they did not subsidize it, althought this could be required for a new customer.
i have never seen the contract be associated with the plan just the device and number.
One more point: The etf with sprint is still one of the lower as I have not heard they have raised it like ATT and tmo, so in all fairness even if you terminate early you should easily recomp that by selling the EVO if you dont like the service.
I too hate ETF but its a small cost considering monthy recurring charges on a smartphone, even though sprint is about half of the other guys. I have 4 lines all smartphones with sprint and I pay just over what my iphone bill was with AT&T so this imo opinion that is worth a lot!

Pppplease.. This phone has the most features than any phone to date, not to mention what we already know form iPhone HD leak. I say this phone will be kicking ass for more than 2 yrs!
The solve your worries, just sell the phone, and get whatever phone is out for your carrier, that you think has the best coverage in your area..
I never understood why people bash Sprint so much. I never have problems with dropped calls or lack of signal. It seems reliable to me. The biggest problem with Sprint for me has always been their selection of phones doesn't match the other carriers, and the Evo should change that.
Guy says he can't get a signal in whatever cave he lives in so "Sprint Sucks" please go to AT&T. Bye...
I'm actually surprised that the first few posters were as kind as they were.
If you have the phone already just use it month to month, the 2 year contract is only for the discounts on a new phone.

We've heard that but I for one cannot find any printed data from Sprint that says I can bring in my phone and start a month to month deal with them. Would you have any information or a link to such?
Thanks
iPhone... ewww. Even if it does come to sprint, I won't be hopping on that bandwagon anytime soon, or ever.

When you add a line, upgrade, or purchase new service you have to option to purchase the phone at a discounted price but with a contract. If you have a phone already, or buy it without the discount a contract is not required.
I've moved back to Sprint in the pass using an old phone without any contracts.
Does ANYONE keep their same phones for the entire two-year contract period? Phones from two years ago are ancient. The longest I've had a phone since my Treo is like 8 months with my Centro and a year with my BlackBerry Curve 8330.

This goes against everything I've read in other forums:

And several Sprint CSR's have said a new customer needs to sign up with a 2 year contract.

[Q] Getting Rid of Account

I've had my Inc2 for 10 months, and have 2 other phones on the account.
Can anyone tell me how you go about selling off your VZW contract.
Wait 14 more months, or pay a 350$ canceling fee.... I think

how long do you have left on each phone contract wise? are the other 2 smartphones? what was the etf on each phone?
unless you have a documented history of issues with verizon over multiple phones/lines on ur account in regards to service, they wont let you out w/ etf or until you are off contract
id do the math on ur etf and decide what to do then
We've got 2 smartphones and one dummy phone. At $210 a month it's a bit steep.
The current ETF is $625 to end the contract.
Replacement phone plan is only $90 a month.
So $120 a month would pay off that ETF pretty quickly.
I've heard about some sites that would let users trade off thier plans and phones a while ago, I just can't remember anything else.

in the past sprint and tmobile have had promotions where they would give you a certain $ credit for leaving another major carrier and porting your number, but i havent heard of any recently (last 6 months anyway)
Good to hear. But I'm not in Sprint territory, and T-mobile coverage where I live is a joke.

switching to att then? or regional carrier
Indeed, going with a regional carrier with prepaid service. More minutes, same texting, same data.
Found Cellswapper.com That's the gist of what I was looking for.
Also Praying for Verizon to change something that gets me a get out of jail free card.

We certainly don't want you leave us. Is there anything we can do to change your mind about canceling the service?
You do have the option of having someone take over the line by completing an Assumption of Liability (AOL) You would have to agree to release the line to them and after a credit check, they can take over the line and put it in their name.

I read since verizon changed pricing there is a way to get out of contract for free. Only haveso many days from the 1st of july. I can find the link.
I
And sorry verizon does not care to loose buisness. I have been with verizon for 10 years 3 phones. I called to see if i could upgrade 3 months early to 4g to keep unlimited and they said no. I let them know i will pull my family off and they do not care! I will find the link to get out if contract for free. Let your supervisor anothef family will be leaving after 10 years. You guys are doing a great job lol sprint here comes everyone from verizon. Verizon is a joke they only rely on their service.

This is a older one i seen a recent one i will find it
Verizon cares about breaking root more than taking care of long time customers!
---------- Post added at 12:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:07 AM ----------
Why is verizon even on xda
A: to figure oit how to break root and screw us more
B: Damage control since they know they are loosing customers.
Why doesnt verizon worry about putting out uodates to fix issues instead of trying to break root all the time.
Though I have been happy with Verizon for the past 8 years or so, I too may look elsewhere when my contract is up.
Getting too expensive. Baby takes up all my monies.

I've only been satisfied with Verizon coverage. However, I've been sick of their constant price changes and lack of software updates (significant ones anyways). Gonna go to Sprint after my contract ends and awaiting the end of the Verizon contract.

Where is the verizon rep? Keep reading and get the hint this is not going to help your buisness. But i am sure the other carriers are loving you for sending all your customers away. Verizon has good coverage but everything else is a joke!
I too am looking to give up my 13 year relationship with vzw! The service is good in my area. But the magnitude of corporate greed, slow release of OTAs, and all the other bs is enough to turn my gaze elsewhere! Not that they care!

For me it's really just about the money, the phone bill is getting out of hand, and I can switch to prepaid phones, with data for a lot less money each month.
and yes, babies do take up a lot of money.
I also want out of my VZW contract. If it were just me I wouldn't care about the price changes... The price difference isn't anything too extreme for me. However, I have my father and my grandmother on my plan -- both of them have basic phones and I only charge them $30 each month TOTAL. Their payment would basically double.
Plus I don't want to lose my unlimited data (even though I don't think I have EVER used over 2GB).
My husband is on AT&T (he desperately wanted the iPhone and didn't want to wait for VZW to get it) so I will probably end up switching unless Verizon changes their new pricing before next September.
The new Share Everything is DUMB. Plain and simple.

No, I know that. It would just be cheaper for us to be on the same plan by about $20. Since DH is ADAMANT about being able to use talk & data at the same time, I'll end up on his plan. Not my first choice, trust me. My very first cell phone in HS was a prepaid VZW plan. I've been with them now for 10 years with GREAT customer service. I'll be sad to leave.
