12/08 1.4 - MoDaCo Hero Patch (A2SD / root / busybox + much more) - Hero, G2 Touch Android Development

On the back of my previous hybrid root effort, I now have an even easier root solution!
Benefits of using this...
- auto A2SD pulled from Cyanogen's ROM (muchos kudos to him...) - just create your partition (I use EXT3) and you're done!
- much easier install process than before!
- root access (with 'adb remount' permissions for full access)
- superuser APK
- busybox is installed and configured, meaning you can use apps that use things such as 'swapon' (e.g. swapper)
- /data/init.sh is called at startup so you can create your own startup commands
- if you're a bit mad (like me) you can set the system partition to always mount RW using init.sh, to save adb remount'ing all the time (this is dangerous potentially ofc!)
- MORE TO COME - gimme your requests!
[caveat: i'm pretty new to Android tweaking, so use at your own risk!]

Changelog
1.4
- Fixed WiFI issues (tested on fresh built Hero)
- USB debugging is now enabled by default
1.3
- A2SD from Cyanogen's latest ROM (full credit to Cyanogen!)
1.2
- Performance fix
1.1
- Initial Release

Well,
First off all, thank you for putting your effort in this. I really appriciate youre work sofar.
Nick

Brill - I would like to have a go, but worried that I'll be messed up cos already rooted (XDA Method) and also applied your Update from your rooting method to get adb remount (ta!!)
Can I just apply the update zip with no problems from those other rootings?
Hugs Dayzee

Other rootings have no impact, so it's cool.
Checking out a reported WiFi issue atm however...
P

no wifi problem here, no problem with previously rooted too
busybox works fine, trying ap2sd soon

stupid question.. how do i use ap2sd now
i applied update.zip once again

any help on the appstosd ????
We need to download the application, or is it built in to transfer all apps to the sd card?? Do we need to format the card with fat32 and ext2??

No probs with my install. Not done anything with it mind you, but no probs been thrown up as a result of doing it and wifi working fine. xxx
Dayzz

Why does the wifi work for some and not for other? Maybe thoose with a root already gets a working wifi and thoose without root before applying this gets a not functioning wifi...

wifi doesnt work for me... i really need it to work.. so im reverting back until it gets fixed..

I had already rooted using method here, then updated using this method and no wifi, restored nandroid backup and wifi back again.
I have the white sim free model, not sure if that makes any differance.

Also was rooted with the 1.2 method, then gave the 1.3 a try and no wifi... Anyone figure out how to get the apps to sd working???

@atsavlis what phone do you have? sim free or locked?

Wifi doesn't work because the wlan.ko module of the people who are having problems is compiled for a different kernel version.
To solve the wifi issue, just include your(or the one of the same build of your boot.img) wlan.ko module in the "update".
You can find it in /system/lib/modules/

Not right actually... as the original kernel is being used.
Investigating now, I probably screwed up something in the init.rc in the boot image
P

For A2SD, as with other ROMs, just ensure you have a second partition on your SD card that is EXT3, and the A2SD app will do the magic itself.
P

ext3 ok ... i formated with ext2

That should work too...

Have you checked that your kernel is the same as the kernel of the people who's wifi doesnt work?
Maybe it's simple to check logcat for any error while atempting to enable wifi

New KAISER ROM Valentine 1.0.2 - based on not so super froyo RLS18

This Kaiser ROM is based on not so super froyo RLS18
---------------------------------------------------------------
1.02 is the latest version and is a full version, so you do not need to download 1.0
If you want to set a locale other than Spanish or English you will still need to apply this patch
and as a result of the patch you will loose the battery % indicator
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Valentine 1.02
Tested with clemsys #63 2.6.32 kernel and a recent atools generated 2.6.32 vanilla kernel
Change log:
1.0
Initial release
The desktop background has been changed by a smaller file
The battery indicator has % and battery shape (not the green circle)
Go launcher EX in DATA
minor updates
removed some fat in line with FatFree RLS5
1.01
Fully odexed SYSTEM for a faster boot
minor bug fixes
minor app updates
1.02
Replaced 1.01 market with one optimized for the Kaiser (thanks to my tocayo Arturo for the tip)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For your convenience here are two kernels tested with this rom:
Kernel with both wifi and DATA enabled clemsys #63 2.6.32 kernel
Kernel with WIFI-only clemsys #63 wifi-only 2.6.32 kernel
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you want better localization at the price of the battery percentage indicator you can install this patch
But bear in mind I do not personally use this patch and it is reported not to work with Valentine 1.02 so I recommend you do a nand backup before trying it
Feedback is welcome...
If you have another kernel that works fine with this rom, please send it to me indicating if it is .32 or .25 and what you have tested and I will be happy to add it to this post to help other users looking for the perfect match rom + kernel
and if somebody wants screenshots you can find some there (with a theme on)

TIPS AND KNOWN ISSUES:
- If you have issues with wifi, 3g or bluetooth, install this androidupdate tar ball:
and repair permissions afterwards
- When using atools please set the correct panel type and refrain from using ´auto´ as that feature is far from working well.
- If you have problems with sound and/or camera try using radio 1.70.19.9 (and not later)
wow dude is so fast is more faster than Fat Free Froy!!! Everything works only exporting from SIM work with Radio 1.70.xx Good job
glad you like it!
I must admit I haven´t tried exporting from SIM as all my contacts are on my google account. Did this work in ´Not so super froyo RLS18?´
Feel free to elaborate on the nature of the problem...

Where is the kernel stored at? I'm still new to this whole idea. Can I just put this on my SD card and dual boot into this or not?

The kernel is meant for installing android on the NAND of your phone (so bye bye windows mobile if you do that.
You should follow a haret guide (that is for dual booting)

the lack of language support is due to the file /system/framework/framework-res.apk
You could update your system with the one from RLS18 and you will recover your language support (you will use the battery % indicator and the smaller (faster) desktop background
so take framework-res.apk from RLS18
create a folder called system, and inside another one called framework
tar this ´system´ folder and call it androidupdate.tar
flash that using update (use the atools script)

Okay I want to dual boot just in case something happens. BTW I reformatted my card, and for some reason it won't open the android install menu now. It says something about no rootfs found?
you really should go to the thread about atools for that sort of thing.
Basically modern kernels as generated by atools need also an atools generated installation script (which is used once only)
But I am afraid this thread is not the best place to ask for help with that, as it is not really related to the androidinstall.tar I uploaded here (you will have the same problem with any other androidinstall.tar) , but rather about installing the kernel with DATA and SYSTEM configured to run from the correct place...

Sorry about posting in the wrong thread. I will look into the ATools issue. I guess that was all packaged with Myn's Warm donut and thats why that ROM worked but not this one. I will hopefully get to run this in the next couple of days.
everything is cool except data connection
so everything i s fast and stable no fc`s no hangs no bugs except one data connection whatever i try nothing happens there is no data connection even after applying the update
I have the same report. Great but no data connection. WIFI does work fine.
same results with Nand and haret install.
Can I deleted some apps from app and system/app folder?
Interesting, that is a bug we must find a way to fix...
a)Did you repair permissions after applying the update?
b)Did you try to set the APN details manually? check here for a full list of APNs
c)If still no luck try the following:
1) using the latest atools generate a current 2.6.32 kernel, update package and install script, set to clear data, install system, install updates, fix permissions, clear dalvik cache
2) install the Valentine 1.0 rom
3) check if data works now...
4) If it doesnt´t go back to step 1 with a 2.6.25 kernel
5) Let me know the results...

if you have adb you could do:

adb shell

cd /system/app

reboot

CWM NEOFroyo v0.1 fastest build yet (updated8/21/11))

This is a complete package just unzip folder on sd card.
Here is original thread by neopeek
people having wifi problems check the original thread they have a fix
This is the CWM 1.9 thread wich is included in folder already
Using starfox test kernel from XDA (Rhodium only)
EDIT: per starfox dont use test kernels use his new vanilla stable kernel
GAPPS already included.
Im not a dev, just put stuff together credit goes to all authors just posting here to spread the word
DOWNLOAD
Sure, I'll bite. I've got an extra micro-sd card here. What's the worst that could happen?
It's a pretty fast build, I tried it on Neopeeks site.
It is MDPI, so the look of it isn't quite as crisp... (you can see what I mean by the notification bar 3g, etc...lower resolution basically) but I was impressed by the speed. All the animations, etc are disabled by default and I believe that's Zeam that is the default launcher... it is quite snappy out of the box.
what tweaks you did?
no tweaks just put it together
This version is the fastest thing I've tried (probably due to mdpi-gapps), but I have two major issues.
1) Wifi will sometimes refuse to turn on, saying wifi error on the check box. It must be related to tethering and hotspot settings, because after I mess with these I get an instant reboot.
2) Camera is tremendously unstable. Most of the times it crashes bringing down the entire OS or if I am lucky it will crash the camera app and refuse to start again until a reboot.
Of course there are random hiccups here and there (like most builds), but it is quite close replacing WM for every day usage.

This is actually not that unusual... I would get this on my epic4g... which is an android phone .
If you don't mind, please use the vanilla kernel that I posted instead of the testing kernel. While I don't mind that it is being bundled, the [Test] kernel was never meant to be used for long term, and is liable to include stuff that is unstable and/or changed on my whim. The vanilla kernel contains some of the tweaks that I consider to be stable and is based on known autobuild releases+supports all devices. Thanks.

There's nothing stopping you from doing that.
Including testing stuff into a public build is never a good idea. I wouldn't appreciate anything I distribute for testing to be put into a build. It's meant for testing, so anyone that installs/uses it should know full well what they're getting into. Placing it into a build circumvents that, and everyone ends up using it unknowingly.

Can't get CWM working
Hey guys,
I must be doing something wrong, but don't know what.
I just can't get CWM running on my TP2. I followed all the instructions precisely, got into CWM once, even flashed the ROM from SD card, but can't do it again.
I even reflashed my device, Re did the entire SD card but just can't get in to CWM.
Upon booting Haret, I press volume down, but the screen just gets stuck there and doesn't move forward. Please help, I'm trying to flash NeoFroyo 0.1

Yes I did that too....
SD Card (All Partitions Primary)
Partition 1: 6.4 GB - FAT32
Partition 2: System - 300 MB - EXT2
Partition 1: Data - 300 MB - EXT2
Partition 1: Cache - 300 MB - EXT2
I put the npkboot folder with startup for RHOD100 on the SD Card (Root) and the NeoFroyo Zip also on the root.
Plus, I also put the contents of the npkboot folder on root of the phone. (Not the folder npkboot)
Run Haret from SD Card through File Explorer & press Volume Down - Result: Frozen Screen!!!
Does not enter into CWM recovery...

I'm a little confused with what you did.
Basically just unzip his folder you downloaded and then move the Entire npkboot folder to the root of ur sd card.
So there will be nothing on your sd card except the folder. Inside that folder will be everything just as you unzipped it. So for example haret would be at "Sdcard/npkboot/haret.exe". Then just switch/edit the startup.txt in the npkboot folder for your phone and boot into CWM.
You don't need to move anything outside of his npkboot folder that you unzipped.

Motorola DEFY sd card driver FIX

DO NOT APPLY THE ZIP I UPLOADED, READ EDIT 2
Edit: I will make a flashable fix in a .zip inspired from CM7 RC1.5, with only the mmcfix in it, therefor anybody can use it, even people on official ROMs or other custom ROMs than CM7.
Work in progress....
Flashable zip nearly ready with mmcfix from CM7...
Zip script works correctly, testing...
Soft brick..
Flashed back my stock Froyo, restoring my nandroid backup (this shows you how important a backup can be! )....
Back to work! ^^ .....
Edit 2: I'll upload my mmcfix_signed_crakeron.zip for show only, it !!!DOES NOT WORK!!! right now and if you apply it through CWM you will !!!SOFTBRICK!!!. It is for people to take a look at it only, especially my update-script, and try and figure out what is wrong, or in my opinion, what i have forgot to put in it, seen as there is no sytax problems.
Hi all,
As you all know, our lovely Defy seems to have a problem when it comes to using sd cards... where *GENERALLY* all class 2 cards are fine, and problems may occur with higher class cards.
The problem is basically: the phone loses its write acces to the card, and therefor for example the photo camera app can take pictures, but can't save them... Another sign of this issue would be an absurd "SD Card damages/corrupted, please format" notification, and the sdcard never mounting again untill you well...re-format the card. This happens to me once a week, making me have to backup my stuff to the pc, format the card, and then put it all back on the card, and voila off we go till the next "false corruption" .
I've done some research, seen as this is a software issue, and not hardware, and i have found out it is an OMAP kernel issue:
"SD card problems since 2.2 update is a bug in OMAP kernel sources for froyo. CyanogenMod developpers worked hard to patch the kernel but it is hard to correct motorola bugs due to the locked bootloader." (source: Motorola support forums")
here is what i also found:
http://maemo.org/community/maemo-users/n900_microsd_card_i-o_errors_and_corruption/
To resume the thread, a Nokia n900 user, which also has a TI OMAP proc., discovered what was faulty:
some function in the driver (to keep this simple i will not name it, people interested and devs please just click on the link), dynamically calculates a DTO value based on the SD card's caracteristics. THIS IS WHAT IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY
the guy simply modified a function in the omap_hsmmc driver so as it would use a constant universal DTO value, that would work with all sdcards, turning the DTO from dynamic, to static
Right, now you're thinking "what has this got to do with our Defy?"
Well...it has been sead in motorola milestone forum in xda, that:
"Since N900 uses the same SOC as Milestone and probably much of the drivers code are the same, perhaps the fix for N900 could be implemented as well? Not sure whether TI OMAP drivers are builtin in the kernel or not... If possible, could you please check this?"
(source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17033833&postcount=5563)
and it is also said somewhere that this fix should also apply to the Motorola Defy.
I think I could be capable of making this fix for us, i just need some help:
(1) Where is the omap mmc driver situated in our /system ?
After having found it, i can copy it on to my sd card, and open it up and have a look (it is expected to be a C language file, i'm familiar enough with C to be able to edit the driver )
(2) I would like that driver from an official 2.1 ROM, and one from a 2.2 one, just to compare them
What do you think guys? If one of you know where to find the driver could you PM me to help me get started?
P.S This is not a thread about who's sdcard works and who's doesn't, so don't post millions of "my kingston 8gb class X works fine"
P.P.S Hit the THANKS! button if you want to support me, it costs nothing and makes my day!

P.S. this is exciting
Made the update zip, the script seems to be OK, but just a bit missing, the device didn't like having something added in /system/lib/modules. I had write acces to it, maybe i have to put acces back to read only before ending script?

i´m waiting for this fix too!!!
I've built an update-script which writes the module into "/system" partition.
In case of soft-brick, i've built another script which erases the file.
I've flashed it on CM7 ( 15th of october ) and it worked as the fix is already embedded in the ROM.
Let me know whether it works with other ROMs.
P.S. Scripts are written in Edify syntax.
Update: i forgot to include the init.d script that loads the fix once the device is on.
Now i've fixed. It should work!
Could u please drop a few words about install procedure? Thx.

I can't post/reply at Development group, so I post here. The patch still have problem. After apply this path on MS2Ginger 3.0, any install app action from SD card will cause reboot problem. My phone is defy with red lens, and the sd card is transcend 16G c10 card.
need this fix, don't have a reader...
my SD cards were all recognised on stock froyo (not sure of build, possibly taiwan retail):? but now after new eclair and froyo sbfs the sdcards not recognised...weird huh?
I have a class 10 16GB.
The stock Froyo SEA 15 hangs often.... yesterday the defy said that SD card is damaged... but I did not format it and removed sdcard and put it in Nokia E5 and to my surprise it was working perfect there....
I have not installed your fix or any mcc fix till now.

Copy mmcfix.ko & symsearch.ko in /system/lib/modules and change the permissions to rw r r for both files.
Modify load_modules.sh as mentioned below and set permission as rwx r-x r-x
So just add the following lines in load_modules.sh files of /system/bin so it looks like this:
#!/system/bin/sh
export PATH=/system/bin:$PATH
# Install GAN virtual interface kernel module
if [ -e /system/lib/modules/kineto_gan.ko ]; then
insmod /system/lib/modules/kineto_gan.ko

[Q] swapped (as shown by ramprasad5394) now all aps stopped

Hi,
Sorry, newbie here.
I rooted my c1905 4.3 with towelroot.
Worked fine.
Then tried this swap method for internal and external memory
There is already a script to swap internal with external memory. i just made it to work at boot without SManager
This is just for the stock ROM!!
how to install:
1.remove SManager if u already have it
2.flash the zip in recovery OR edit the files like i did
what i did:
place the script in system/etc/init.d (script is not mine. credits to whoever made it )
edited init.qcom.post_boot.sh and added the line sh /system/etc/init.d/ext2sd
this will execute the script post boot.
any script can be executed using this method , so it kinda provides init.d support to stock ROMS

My phone rebooted (don't ask me why, I don't know) and now all my apps have stopped working (except google play and google chrome).
Can't acces my file browser anymore to delete changes made, and when connected to pc it only shows my sd-card contents.
UPDATE: Chrome and play store also stopped
Help?
Flasg a stock android ftf through flashtool
Wouldn't know how to do that.
But fixed it by rebooting without my sd card inserted. And then undo all the changes made.
But thanx for the reply

Well, in the future, if you mess up badly, and/or get a soft brick, be sure to take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697277

[ROM][STOCK][Lolipop][deodexed,resigned,zipaligned] D5503 14.5.A.0.270 Enhanced LP

Hi, just to share with you!
Whats this? In short, it is deodexed -> resigned -> zipaligned, installed busybox, supersu, dual recovery (vol up for twrp, vol down for cwm), 5way reboot menu ...and some other changes which you can read about it here -> https://github.com/munjeni/D5503_14.5.A.0.242/commits/master .
How to download rom:
- go to here -> https://github.com/munjeni/D5503_14.5.A.0.242/tree/ae7b18de7faa97eaf01eff1c2b6abeb540feaf6f and on the right side you have "Download zip"
- after downloading rom is not ready, do not flash!!!
How to install:
- after you download rom you must repack zip since git always add things into new folder inside zip so you will need repack it first before installing!
- simple open main zip and go to folder "14.5.A.0.242.master", select all files from these folder, drag and drop it to a new empty zip, you are done. Before you flash rom please read "iportant" section! Flash these new zip with any recovery. Done.
Mirrored download link (using this you no need to repack anything, just download and install!):
Important:
- you must fully wipe /data partition (mean delete everything from /data folder)! Or another solution, flash only userdata from any LolyPop ftf! Why? Because all old files from internal storage is not relabeled and you will encounter a lot of problems and all these files can not be accessed from android, pictures, private files... etc is not accessible than! Don't think it will work without wipe, it will not! Wioe data factory reset have no sense, I recomend installing userdata from ftf since its more a safe way!
Changelog:
Enjoy!

Curently I am stoped development on this rom since I am unable to solve thing like this -> lolipop have two classpaths (BOOTCKLASSPATH and SYSTEMSERVERCLASSPATH) and I not understand how to access classes from one classpath to another classpath, if you have idea how I can get this than I will probably continue development. My plan was implementing privacy guard rom cm12 but since I have problem accessing classes I am temporary stoped

I have made some automated scripts so you no need to wipe anything since everything needed will be done auto so just click "install" and wait until rom get installed.

Flashed this ROM and it is amazing.
Debloated it, installed some mods like xposed, xposed fix, modded services.jar for superuser mode, modified mixer_paths.xml for more loudness and some apps like MyAndroidTools, TitaniumBackup, Greenify.
Works like a charm and good battery life.
Only thing is the aweful toogle change by Google (no silent, vibrate toggle on quick settings) - but this depends NOT on your ROM.
Thx munjeni (one more time) for your time, work and effort.

Investigated and got solution for 5 way reboot menu
Where you got moded services with superuser mod? I wanted to start porting it from cm12 but if it is allready exist I will be glad to look into it

I have no idea why it is caled SuperUser Mod since it have nothing related to SuperUser. It is just SignatureDisable mod, author stupidly gave these name to these mod which apsolutly have nothing related to superuser If you look into commits on my git you will notice that you no need his services.jar since my rom allready have disabled signature verification, I not guarant you how his services is patched, but I can sugest you to replace services.jar whith one from my rom since compatibility is guaranted
This http://www.androidauthority.com/cyanogenmod-12-superuser-577985/ is what I call superuser mod (I have plan to port it here), and diferencie between "wrongly named" superusermod and real superusermod like one from cm12 is like this and this

Thanks mate !

Flashing failed, so flash it untouched and remove / add things then.

I'm trying to solve this but have no idea how to do it, it is selinux restriction (if somebody have idea how it can be solved let me know please), but temporary solution is: via terminal emulator disable selinux, than install app, than enable selinux. To disable selinux write "setenforce 0", than install app, than enable selinux "setenforce 1"

You can but only if you propertly remove lines from updater-script since it is hardcoded with our rom, instead recovery will abort installation if you missed something in updater-script ! My sugestion is, remove things manualy using an root file explorer, or at least add some lines in updater script which will remove things that you want

No man, you no need sdcard fix. I allready included sdcard fix https://github.com/munjeni/D5503_14.5.A.0.242/commit/21b396daf721791c3675de417c543ba6184e21d1 and you can read / write any storage without problems, but we speak about problem related to the "installing apps from sdcard"! For example, if you try to install blablabla.apk which is on any storage you will get "no free space" error since selinux DENIED installing it, I don't have idea why it happen since I am not familiar with selinux, only very basic things by now. I will try to solve this problem!

Ok thanks for info. On my rom selinux must be disabled temporary before installing any app from sdcard, than enabled. I will try to understand why it happening. For sure it is related to selinux. I replaced platform key in selinux_policy.xml since all apks on our rom is resigned and zipaligned but it was not solved problem related to the installing apks from sdcard.
