I am wanting to go buy a TP2 from Telus because I've noticed the use of the SIM unit can be unbarred and let me use it on Rogers/Fido. What I want to know though is will the phone work with 3G on the Rogers network if I get it unlocked?
In all probability: No.
The specs list it as only 2100mhz for 3G. Now it is POSSIBLE that Telus asked HTC to disable the bands for Nort American 3G but included them so that they could be re-enabled when Telus gets their 3G network up and running. But there is no evidence to prove this is the case and even if it were, you'd have no way of reenabling those bands yourself as of this moment should they exist.
Time to move to europe I think.

wcdma I agree with. But hey, that's exactly what Telus is kinda doing by implementing 3G.
And the imperial measurement is FUN! Horrible to memorize, but if you're in Canada and the US and you suddenly start using stones as a measurement, people just look at you in such a great confused manner that you can't help but smile
And let's face it. Monitors/TVs are going to continue with the imperial measurement system for a long long time to come... (I can't remember seeing non-imperial measurements for either product here in Mexico where they don't actually know what a foot or inch is as they have been using the metric system for ages)

I know cdma/tdma is superior in some respects but it's just not portable enough! Which is why businesses refused to use it in Australia and Telstra was forced to give up on it.
Then I move to Canada and after being there for a year they are bringing out this "new" thing called video calling that I had trialled 3 years prior in Aus.
Now 3G in Australia is just as hopeless as here. At least the drug dealers get some good education for measurements. (I'm referring to Ghostface Killahs song Kilo because "all around the world today the kilo is the measure, a kilo is a thousand grams, it's easy to remember", oh that song just makes me laugh.)
You want behind the times? Go to Latin America. 3G isn't fully implemented here yet. And prices are ridiculous. One advantage is that due to a weird economy, there are lots of pre-paid plans. I get great rates on prepaid/pay-as-you-go and if I choose to buy an unlocked version of a phone I don't have to feel too bad about the high price as getting it here would take a lot longer and be just as expensive if not more (the mogul is available right now in stores for around eighty bucks more than I'll be paying for the TP2).
And yes, as far as learning measurements, nothing beats drug trafficking, having a meth lab in your bathtub, and making home made explosives. Good famil fun

Alas, metric will never take over the United States for one reason: it's easier to lose a pound than it is to lose a kilo.
Americans buy more exercise equipment per capita from infomercials than any other country and we do less exercise per capita than anywhere else (except Dubai, those lazy bastards). The economy would collapse while people were wondering why they can only lose 2.3 kilos per week with modern equipment when the old stuff would let them lose 5 pounds. Then depression would set in, everyone would go on an eating binge, planes would be falling from the sky because they couldn't handle the weight, type 2 diabetes would skyrocket and there would be a worldwide insulin shortage while our average age creeps back to preindustrial levels and we start rationing cemetery space.
On the upside, towards the end (of civilization) you could get an amazing deal on an ab blaster 7k.

Also think about it, it'd be great for the snack and fatty food industry, people wouldn't feel so bad about eating stuff as it'd be less than half than it used to be numbers wise.
I went to a telus store and asked if the TP2 would work on it (since whenever they cripple a feature they just say it does not exist, like the fm radio that you can activate with a cab in the TP2 or the GPS on my old p4000 which I activated with a hacked rom). The clerk seemed to be a phone geek (finally not someone who knows nothing about phones and actually knows stuff like what bands telus operates on and such) who told me that they had gotten a memo from head office saying that if people ask, the answer was "we do not know yet". Now in a last twist, my buddy Nook found the spec sheet for our chipset and according to this, the chipset is capable of 2100mhz and 1900mhz UMTS (telus's new network). So where does this leave us? Well when they upgrade with the 6.5 rom and the network has been around for a bit, we will have a final answer, but until then we can just hope telus does not give us the shaft!

The chipset is capable of all bands and various combinations. But the question is which of them it is configured to handle IF there are any more than the one they say is there.
Though the "we do not know yet" comment implies that there is/will be more. But we still don't know. Though if I had to guess I'd say they have the 850+1900+2100 combination which would give them coverage for their own 3G network and would allow basic roaming in Europe, Asia, and some Latin American countries (if I remember correctly). Making it a an almost universal phone. But I have NO idea what would be needed to unlock any hiddenn bands, whether a new ROM, new OS, or to flash the radio.
Well it looks like I'm going to have to wait until near the olympics to get my new phone. It's a shame because my current artemis' battery is dying and there's no way I would give telus money for their current network.
Although if iGo My Way is ported to android then I will switch to that in a heartbeat. I love iGo, just I need a better phone to run it.

It specifically mentions the BlackBerry Tour and BlackBerry Storm as being incompatible with its future hspa network. It doesn't specifically mention the Touch Pro2, which isn't much in and of itself, but coupled with the "We don't know yet " comment, it's quite possible the Touch Pro2 will be compatible in the future.
Successfully unlocked my Telus TP2, however, tried a brand new Rogers SIM right out of the package (came with a Blackberry of mine, never used) and it won't register on the network. However, same card in the blackberry reads "Sim not provisioned:2". I think I need to test with a friend's working rogers sim. All my friends are Telus and Bell...
If the TP1 is any indication, the component missing is the 850mhz power AMP
Its not because the chipset can do it that all the required components are soldered on the PCB.

Well possibly. Except the thing here is that Telus is in a somewhat unique situation since they are CDMA adding/switching to HSPA soon. Meaning that they might have wanted to include the support even if it was locked in the beginning (like those infamous present but unusable gps capabilities on phones in the past). It's not certain. And I think the user on WMExperts who wrote a review for them of the Telus phone disassembled his phone. Maybe someone who knows more about the subject could contact him and ask him about the amp.

The TyTN II/Kaiser is GSM, the HTC Vogue is the CMDA Touch... So the radio will not probably work...

The Vogue does NOT have the same hardware as the Kaiser. If you flash the Kaiser rom on your Vogue, you are likely to brick it.
The vogue has a Qualcomm MSM7500 chipset, where as the Kaiser has Qualcomm MSM7200 chipset. Very similar, but not the same.
Either way, I am very confident that the Vogue has GPS capiblities that may or may not be unlocked in a future rom update (possibly at the same time as a EV-DO Rev A. update comes out, but that is hearsay). I say this because the MSM7500 chipset has a GPSone unit built in. It is capable of running as an aGPS chip or a standalone GPS, if the rom allows it to, like the Kaiser's does. This chip is included due to FCC regulations for E911 service.
WiFi is another question. The MSM7500 chip does not have a wifi radio built in, but it does support one on the SDIO bus. I can't see why they would go through the trouble of adding a WiFi radio, only disable it. I suppose it is possible, but until someone gets some good pictures of the guts of the Vogue or comes out with a ROM or hack that enables WiFi, I am not inclined to believe that there is a WiFi radio on the unit.
spectec makes a wifi card, only prob is, it probably has a terrible range!
Regardless if it has terrible range or not, it would be nice if the company will get off its butt and sell that card. They have been promising about it for months and still nothing.

The Touch Dual is a MSM7200 chip set. But it is a GSM phone and has more in common with the Kaiser than it does with the Vogue

Well fellows I have good news and bad news. Good news is I work for a corporate RadioShack that sells the Touch(Vogue) and am able to play with brand new, out of the box Touch's. I can find out for sure if the newer versions(which I know for a fact are EV-DO Rev A capable), are also equipped with WIFI. The bad news is that my store has been sold of them since we got them in and they have been selling out before we get any in stock leaving us with a backorder. As soon as the hype slows down and I get a chance to actually get my hands on one(I plan on buying one soon and getting rid of my Mogul very soon) and play with it I will get online and let you guys know.
When I buy my Touch, it will already be the new EV-DO Rev A model and if it is capable of WIFI, I will release a dump of the ROM for you guys to disect but until then thats the best I can do.

It's my pleasure. Think of it as my way of giving back to the community. It might be a little while though because like I said, we're constantly sold out. As soon as I can get some solid information for you guys and as soon as I buy my own, I will post a link to a ROM dump as a base for building custom ROMs but again, this might take a little time so please be patient with me.
Good luck waiting. The Rev A/A-GPS update for SPRINT Touch won't be available until Q1/Q2 2008 and won't just be available for new devices sold through Sprint. It'll be posted on HTC's support website, thus a rom dump or whatever you're talking about isn't required--people can get the rom update themselves.

Yes they can but if I can get the dump out before that, it'll help in the mean time. And as for the EV-DO Rev A capabilities, they ARE available on the new Moguls and Touchs available through Sprint. I'm not talking about one that might have been purchased through Sprint a few months ago, I am talking about the ones we have IN OUR STORE. Why do you think I would lie about this? Did you not read my other post? Or even my signature? I am a an employee at a Corporate RadioShack and am also a Representative of Sprint. As for information I cannot obtain in-store, I can call MY Sprint Rep, Julie, and get whatever information I need. The only reason I haven't yet is because she is always busy and rarely answers her phone.
Stay positive, I'm gonna do what I can whether you care or not. This is for the others that actually DO care.

Alright. Here is my first update as I promised. We finally got a Touch in at our store and I was able to sit down and play with it as I was selling it to a customer and I can CONFIRM that IT DOES have EV-DO Rev A capabilities but WIFI is NOT present.
After noticing this, I called my Sprint Rep Julie and asked her why, if she knew, would the Touch be left without WIFI and she said it had something to do with sales but she didn't have a lot of information. After this I contacted a close friend of mine who is an executive at the Sprint Kansas City Division Office(he will be left un-named) and asked him the same question: Will there be a ROM update for the Touch that would enable WIFI and if not, why would the Touch be left without WIFI? I told him that I knew that the chipset has WIFI capabilities but there is no USABLE WIFI on the device whatsoever. He then told me that during the later development stages of the Touch, it was decided that the internal GPS/WIFI antenna would be removed.
Having confirmed that there was in fact no internal GPS/WIFI internal antenna for the Touch and that WIFI would never be supported on the Touch, I then asked him WHY Sprint would do this to the most sophisticated Windows Mobile Touch Screen Phone ever made(aside from Apple's monstrosity). His response was simple: "We had the GPS/WIFI antenna removed to get customers to pay the extra money for the EV-DO Rev A wireless internet. Without WIFI, if customers wanted to use the internet features on their phone, they would be forced to pay the extra money for the data package or face an extremely high phone bill. Win Win situation for us."
I was shocked to hear this. Every other Windows Mobile based touch screen phone made by HTC has had WIFI and or GPS capabilities. It's rather disappointing to hear this coming from a Sprint Executive but at the same time, can you honestly blame the nations largest wireless cell phone provider with the worst customer service for doing something like this? It's almost expected in my opinion.

I was wondering if there is anyone that has bought an unlocked TP2, and who has AT&T, could tell me if the unlocked version of the phone works with AT&T's 3G bands. I've been asking this question all around the rhodium forums, and I've been getting some very convincing answers, but I really need to hear it from someone who has actually purchased the phone and who has AT&T in the U.S.
and also, does anyone know if there is any form of warranty or insurance offered when you buy an unlocked phone?? that's one of my major needs, just in case something unexpected happens. If there isn't then I'm gonna have to wait until AT&T releases their "customized" version of the TP2. with all of AT&T's design flaws.

i dont believe so if i remember correctly it does not have 850 and 1900 band for highspeed...you would only get edge connection and make calls.

Sorry to disappoint you but the best option is to wait for the AT&T release. Here's why:
Starting with the Touch Diamond and the Touch Pro, HTC released a European model which does not contain AT&T 3G bands and is only useable on the EDGE network which is much slower. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the only brand new factory unlocked versions have been the European or Asian models. The price is also much higher for an unbranded unlocked phone. All indications are that they will be doing the same thing with the Touch Pro2. The following is the specs on the TP2 straight from HTC's European website: Here's the link.
NetworkHSPA/WCDMA:
Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
Up to 2 Mbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
Europe/Asia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
(Band frequency, HSPA availability, and data speed are operator dependent.)
You can see that HSPA (3G) is only supported at 900/2100. AT&T uses 850/1900 for 3G. I made the mistake of purchasing the HTC Touch Pro from Europe then had to sell it for a $400 loss on eBay and purchase the AT&T Fuze from an AT&T store.
Typically, HTC releases their new devices in Europe and Asia 1-2 months prior to a US release. It may be torture to have to sit and wait on it while your friends across the pond are already flashing new ROMs to their new shiny phone, but you'll be much better off.

Yes, I read that after I made my post above. That is great news since I don't think I am going to like AT&T's modifications. I am not eligible for an upgrade yet anyway since I bought the Fuze not that long ago. I wonder if it will be released at the same time as the Europe/Asia models.
I can't find the TP2 on cellhut.com. They must have taken it off their site. I certainly wouldn't trust a dealer that I am not familiar with and hasn't been vouched for on this forum.

Expansys has the UK model listed. They will probably sell the US unlocked version as well, but I would never buy from them again. They lie about items being in stock and I have never received anything from them quickly. When I've purchased from overseas in the past I have used Clove who have always been honest about stock and are very fast shippers. Hopefully newegg.com will have it. They sell some other unlocked HTC phones.

I actually emailed HTC-America ([email protected]) and I asked them if the Unlocked-US version of the TP2 would support 3G networks. I said that they confirmed on their twitter feed that it would be coming to the US, so I was rightly wondering whether an Unlocked-US version would support our weird 3G frequencies.
I think there was a misunderstanding because they said that the HTC twitter feed was in no way run or affiliated with HTC, which doesn't make sense because ON the TP2's product overview page, they actually link to their Facebook, YouTube, and TWITTER accounts.
So I emailed them back saying that of course they have to run that twitter feed, and asked them the question again, but they probably won't get back to me until Monday at least. I'll keep everybody updated on the responses I get, as I, and many others, would REALLY hate to buy another AT&T subsidized model of anything.

I mention Clove in case you ever plan to buy from the UK. Quite positive they won't be selling the US version anyway. If there is a US unlocked version look for it to say UMTS or HSPA with the bands 850/1900. For GSM it will be quad-band and work most places in the world. Of course, online retailers sometimes make mistakes in their listings so you may want to confirm it by contacting the company you purchase from, or even better wait for someone who bought one to post their results in this forum.
I got the reply from HTC today, and it was a kind of mixed answer. The reply to my last email I sent was this:

Soooo, even though they "officially" announced it coming to the US, it's not officially announced that it's coming to the US? I don't know what they mean, but by the way the email used "until" instead of "unless" and other ways it was phrased, I think the answer is yes, we will get an American release. But, maybe I'm just over analyzing it. Tell me what you guys think about it.

i think that its more so the fact that when it come to the US they have contracts with all these companies that rebrand the device. so they choose to with hold the info to give those companies the best chance at selling the rebranded products.

humm.. wonder if its worth getting the euro non-3g or waiting for the ATT version. Not sure how much longer i want to wait, but with ATT if i get it though them, i can have the phone insured. *ponders*

I agree with you that there will not likely be a US unlocked version since I don't recall HTC ever doing that before, but how do you know for sure? Also, I haven't heard any time frame for at&t's release until I just read your quote saying July. Where did you hear that? Was it from a reliable source? Thanks.

So, AFTER agreeing to buy a T-Mobile TP2 for use up here in Montreal on Rogers, I have now learned that it won't work on Roger's 3G band. Brutal! I thought buying the US T Mobile version would be okay.
Oh well.
Now, I have a real-world usage question, for those of you using this device on the ATT/Rogers network...
Just how bad (or good!) is the speed? I really would love a straight answer here, and I think others would, too.
With my AT&T FUZE, the phone typically jumps from H to 3G; but mostly 3G. Nonetheless, surfing is really hit & miss. Sometimes I will wait soooo long for a message with a 1MB attachment to arrive, but other times, it's pretty quick.
I do like to tether my laptop to the device quite frequently, and when I download a file using Internet Explorer, I will get about 100Kb/s, right up to 250Kb/s. I think I once saw 300KB/S while downloading a large file, but it was rare.
I do get faster throughput when I tether via USB and not though bluetooth, of course.
So, my bottom line question is... If you see a 10MB file that you wish to download while tethering, and you are an AT&T or Rogers user using a T-Mobile version of the phone, then just how good or bad is the transfer rate?
I am really looking for some real-world examples, nothing theoretical.
After all, according to Rogers, their 3G HSDPA network is supposed to support 7.2Mbit/s, but give me a break. File, Save As, has never been that thrilling when I tether with my FUZE. And as I mentioned, could sit forever downloading certain emails, EVEN when I see the 3G logo!
So really, please share your bottom line experience with me... Tethering and/or surfing and downloading attachments with the device.
I know plenty of you are on AT&T and Rogers with a T-Mobile Touch Pro 2, unable to use 3G.
Are you guys dying to give it back, or is it pretty darn decent?

No matter what, since you got the TmoUSA version, you're stuck with Edge speeds since it doesn't work on AT&Ts 3G bands.
if you don't like Edge, return the phone & wait for AT&T or Rogers to release it.

I know I am stuck with EDGE speeds, I just wonder what that really means.
The good news is that the seller gave me until tomorrow to back out, with no problem at all.
So, part of me is saying, "BACK OUT! WAIT FOR THE AT&T VERSION WHICH WILL BE OUT SOON!!", but another part is wondering... Hmm... just how slow is the EDGE version after all?
I am anxious for a new phone. (And I already ordered several accessories! )

well if you do stick with it, I only tethered with Edge once or twice & it was unbearable for what i was doing. If you want to use the net though, I suggest getting Opera Mini or trying Opera Mobile 9.7 with the Turbo mode. This will make browsing faster.

Without going into any technical jargon EDGE is slow and on most networks real world average speeds are between 70 to 150 if lucky. When I was with ATT I used to get anywhere from 1.5Mb to 2.1.
The difference is clear. The rumour mill has it that ATT will release their version of TP2 in October. I'd return that baby and hang in there.
On a personal note: I ditched ATT to T-Mob to get the TP2. For the first time in years I'm able to watch youtube videos with little to no buffering. Also my Slingplayer no longer stutters when in control mode.
Not a lot of word out about AT&T's version lately.
It's worth noting that there have been a lot of news stories in the past week about AT&T's network not being able to handle the load of iPhone data and being very slow.
Another thing to remember here is that AT&T doesn't necessarily mean CDMA+GSM world phone .... you may be looking at the original GSM TP2 device here, with no 3.5mm jack if/when AT&T releases theirs

I agree with this! I'm using TMO this time around and I love the speed for both YouTube and my Slingplayer.
I'm guessing it's too late now but it really depends on your area. You should have taken your TP2 and tested it whilst in Montreal. Different carriers give different EDGE speeds, just like different carriers give different 3G speeds. Some people get easily over 200kbps. In which case it'd be like early broadband. But yeah, just because someone in Florida gets great speeds and someone in Seattle (random examples unrelated to reported performance or anything like that) gets horrible speeds doesn't mean that your experience will reflect either one.
Oh, and comments on ATT's capabilities to handle the traffic are irrelevant here as the OP is talking about Roger's network in Montreal.

Thanks to the posts so far, my choice is clear!
I will use my FUZE for the next month or so, and await the AT&T version. It would be the height of impatience for me to buy an EDGE phone, knowing that a 3G version is just around the corner.
Also, based on the pics I have seen online, another HUGE plus on the AT&T version (IF the pics are legit), is that the top row of buttons is like the FUZE... ! @ # $ % ( ), as opposed to a row of numbers. The numbers on the AT&T TP2 are in a keypad formation, which I like more.
And as for the top row of keys, I LOVE LOVE LOVE having symbols there, accessible without hitting the shift key. (IF the spy photos are true).
I cancelled the order!
The only pain in the ass is that I already ordered two cradles, 5 clear screen protectors, 5 mirrored screen protectors, 5 extra magnetic styli, 3 batteries, 2 chargers, and god knows what else! So now I have to STARE at these accessories for a month or two, until I get the AT&T version. What a tease!

Well, at least the ATT version version seems to be the standard build/body unlike the Tmo version which is slightly longer. That means that the accessories should fit it without any big problems (you'll have a hole for the camera that isn't on the ATT version according to the pics, but hey).
Just set your FUZE to 2G EDGE only and see how it is for yourself.

Yes, I thought about doing that, but I wasn't sure how to definitively set this up. Despite many years of purchasing, upgrading, flashing, cooking, and tweaking these devices, I am still a little unsure how to definitively go into each of the various modes/bands (2G/2.5G/3G) and whether or not it would be an accurate test/assessment.
I figured it would be best to get people's advice who have actually tried tethering while on AT&T and Rogers.
Settings>Phone>Band>Select Network>GSM (or something like that)
I did the same mistake.. I bought the Telus version and unlocked it. I thought that I can live without the 3G because I don't browse much. I later realised that the EDGE speed isn't enough for the music streaming I usually do. I really love the phone but I'm thinking about selling it.. I bearly used it for a couple hours and put it back in its box. Still unsure of what I'm gonna do. But my guess is if your lucky enough to be able to back out, send it back. I had to pay $500 + $25 for unlocking. Probably not gonna sell for that much and I only got to enjoy it for an hour or too
Edit: BTW the EDGE speeds ranged from 150-230 kbits/sec which is about 20-30 KB/s when downloading compared to 350-400KB/s when downloading on my Diamond on 3G.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Not cool, of course.
I did get my money back and was able to back out, no questions asked.
Downloaded at 30 KB/s is brutal. I know you are not the only one to make this mistake.
All I know is that I hope Rogers/AT&T really come out with their own version... because otherwise, I'll have tons of accessories to sell!!

Lol yeah I hope a 3G version does come out. I use the pro2 from time to time I love the RAM, keyboard and screen side of the phone but when I'm fed up with EDGE I use the Diamond. I must say though that if you need 3G for browsing primarily, the speeds are good enough especially on Opera (thumbs up for Opera). When it comes to streaming its so so..
I say if you can hold back, wait for a 3G version so you dont regret anything.

Here is the thing, I am not switching to a friggen iPhone or putting out that line of how much better everything is over at the Andriod camp. I am not abondoning Micrsoft forever becuase blah blah. In fact, I will say this about Microsoft, nobody and I mean nobody comes close to how much money Microsoft has dropped on partners like myself. Apple, has millions sitting around... how much will they spend supporting partners? Google? That being said, I am definately not in the camp of hate Microsoft. I want to see Nokia succeed, I like the product.
What I do not like is the support on the MMS issue for MVNO's. I have been told by Nokia directly, I did not have the latest firmware... when I do, and that I should plug it into Zune. Then twitter support is talking about LTE problems with network setup. Forum Nokia moderators claim network setup is coming out... then another moderator jumps on and claims the LTE issue after several weeks of Nokia silence. What makes it worse is the 800 and 710 (non LTE phones) have the same issue.
Nobody promissed me MMS would work on another carrier like an MVNO, but the dishonesty is really getting to me. I could have picked up a Titan II and this would be a non issue. Nobody promissed me it would get 8 when I bought it and I could care less. The lack of honesty from Nokia, has a very patient customer looking for the exit. I may be selling my phone here real soon if something does not change. I am definately uncertain how I will look at Nokia in the future. Wife has a 710 (No network setup) and between the Radar and 710... at this moment I am leaning back to the Radar as a better phone. I have always been an HTC user and the Lumia 900 was the first Nokia I have had in a very long time. This should not be a WP7 bashing thread but I am sure that will rear its ugly head... just wanted to voice an honest issue with integrity.

The majority of those who are b1tching against MS and Nokia, like me, are in fact people who would very, very like to see the blossoming of WP. Yet, we were left off the bus. Those who have left the bus for real, they never looked back and never complained (because they couldn't care less). I had sided with WP because it was different until the calendar hit 6/20/12. I had been all excited about the L900 which would shadow the hateful iPhone and fragmented Android yet I, and others, were given a middle finger by MS. Nokia's comfort stick just isn't enough although their hardwares are beautifully crafted and their free navigation is superb.
WP7.5, smoked ~100k (or 10k?) devices iPhone and Android combined, before running out of gas and stalled :crying:

Wrote this big long thing, but ultimately you are missing the point and going down that road of get left off a bus that has not even arrived. If you can't smoke an Andriod user or an iPhone... that would be like admitting you ride in a wheelchair and only say your name... "Timmy"
Those that are jumping ship because they feel slighted by WP8 vs. WP7., were never on board in the first place. It's called progress. And I look forward to getting my first WP8, after I grow tired of my L900. Which will be well after November 2012.

Ha ha exactly! I am just trying to get a Titan II... they have a network setup app... you can get it unlocked and damn that 16MP cam is calling me photosynth outta be fantastic with that. The Lumia 900 is a fantastic phone and my gripe is with the honesty of support.
My wife has went through two devices and she was finally fed up with the phone when it completly stopped cellular and data transmission today, she went a picked up an iphone today for $35 brand new from ATT. Nokia really needs to get this network issue under control, how can u expect to please customers when the phone doesnt work. Sometimes I miss my DVP.
I may be looking at Samsung or Lenovo next if Nokia doesnt get their act together seriously

this is probably stupid, but, what network issue?
People need to chill a bit. Everyone getting all butthurt over not getting wp8 or because of some hardware issues like Nokia is the only company that has these problems.
Plenty of people with iPhones also have hardware issues, battery problems etc. Apple announces new software for the iPhone and intentionally leaves stuff out of the older phones to force people to upgrade to get the new features knowing damn well they will work on older phones. Siri is a perfect example, it will completely run on an iPhone 4 without issue, Apple left it out on purpose so all the fanboys will go and upgrade.
Took a trip to Atlanta and had some data issues here or there depending on where I was like any other wireless phone. I live in Phoenix and know just about all the dead spots and how the phone will behave, but for the most part.. in Phoenix, you turn on data you get data and the speed is almost always decent. The Lumia is bar far the best phone... as a phone I have ever had!

I was also active on the Nokia support forum for the missing network setup app. This has nothing to do with wp8. Nokia refuses to release the Network Setup app in North America. On the support forum, the first said it was coming last month. Then soon. Then were quiet for a long time. Another moderator stepped in and said the issue was LTE which other people explained mvnos didn't use LTE and the network setup app worked before they pulled it.
Today, the moderator informed the thread that Nokia is not there to support, that's our job (on Nokia's support forum at least).
There has been talk about legal action against Nokia because they told people, myself included, that the ability to set MMS settings would come soon. Those people kept or bought the phone under false statements made by Nokia. However, Nokia was very quick to censor those posts.
I do think we need to have everyone who wants the Network Setup app to flood Nokia on twitter demanding them release the app.

My wife had no cellular or data on her device, sim card was just fine. @ devices same problems. Im an early adopter and had the first batch of 900's and we had a serious data issue, my wife bought the device at least 2 months after the release and still had cellular and data issues. I still get time from time where mines loses data when it says I have 1 or 2 bars in 4G

So the update that Nokia rolled out the first week after launch, didn't fix the data issue? Sorry to hear that.
I got mine 2 days after it was launched and still like it as much.

Goodluck with that, Connection set-up only has settings for at&t in its database, You will have to manually input APN settings for your 3G to work but wont be able to send or receive MMS, Only way around it is a Stock ROM for the Titan 2. :fingers-crossed:
Hmm... so you are saying even if the phone is unlocked.. with a t-mobile sim connection setup will not recognize t-mobile? I still have my account open with them. It recogized t-mobile in the past... or are you saying becuase it's a Titan 2 it won't?
I bought an unlocked Titan 2 for use in UK, Had to add my own APN to get 3G to work, No way I could get MMS to work as there are no options to add settings, Connection set-up had no information in its database for settings, You may well be lucky and find it has the US settings for networks over there but I doubt it, Check the Titan (2011) Forum and there are a couple of threads to check out there,

Not on my wifes device it was up to date.
I don't think what happend to you will necc... happen to me. I have used custom and stock roms for some time now and have yet to have an issue with connection setup finding TMOUS, but you could be right as I have never had a Titan II before.
Was just reading through the posts on the missing network setup and it makes me sick to see L800 and L710's are given the same answer as the L900 "Network Setup not being available in regions where the phone is branded" That is just plain wrong... that is why this thread has nothing to do with hardware. It's the support coming out of Nokia is just wrong on this issue... flat out!
Hey guys, I've been a reader of XDA for years now but for the first time in my history here I wasn't able to find a precise answer after spending days scouring every resource available. That said, if my question HAS been answered before, I throw myself to your mercy and beg forgiveness
As some of your are no doubt aware, MetroPCS is now offering a pilot program in select metropolitan areas where they will allow you to bring your own CDMA device to their network. I live in one of the pilot areas for this program (DFW). Depending on which resource I'm reading I gather that the toro either CAN'T be flashed to other carriers or that it can but that doing so is a very intensive process. My question is whether or not this new offering from MetroPCS changes the traditional answer in any way. After doing as much research as I could online I also went to a MetroPCS store and spoke with an associate who told me that all I'd need to do was buy one of their SIM cards ($18) and pay for the first month of service and I'd be good to go. I also had a look at the SIM card they are offering, and it looks identical in dimension to the 4G LTE SIM currently in my GNex. Being naturally suspicious of anything that seems to simple to be true, I held off on taking the plunge until I could pick the collective brain of XDA to be sure. The associate did guarantee that I would have access to calls, text and at least 3G data, no LTE for obvious reasons.
If this will legitimately work I'd be willing to do whatever necessary to make it work with my GNex. With regards to my familiarity and comfort level with the toro, I bought it within the first month it was out and unlocked and rooted it right away. I change my ROM somewhere bordering between frequently and ZOMGCRACKFLASH!!!1 so I'm fairly intimately acquainted with my phone and what to do when things go wrong. ADB, fastboot etc. are well within my comfort level and I'm the kind of guy that if you give me direct instructions on a process I can follow them precisely and not panic if it doesn't work right the first time. Backtrack, evaluate and try again. I'd like to hope that it will be as simple as switching the SIM but part of me knows better and would be willing to go through the process no matter how long or involved it would be.
On a personal note, I'm not doing this just on a whim or out of curiosity. I've been with Verizon for over four years but about four months ago my father was diagnosed with cancer and I've taken leave from my job to live with and care for him full time. Having no major sustainable income I couldn't keep up with my $170/month family plan bill (my fiance has a GNex too ;p). That said, we both love our phones and would love to continue using them as our primary devices for quite a while if it's at all feasible. Any answers or direction would be greatly appreciated.

you would need to modify the VIA Chipset firmware to work for metroPCS. there is a thread about this somewhere, just search for VIA chipset, or VIA or something like that in the title.
LTE would not work. period. different frequencies.
