memory map - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I have been using memory map with no problems on an Ipaq, MDA vario, and HTC touch dual.
However, now ive upgraded to a touch pro 2, it seems to be giving problems.
Firstly, it usually wont open the maps, even though ive cut them down to about 56MB, is this still too large for wm6.1?
Secondly, what happens when I leave memory map running but turn the device off? Will it keep tracking like my touch dual did, or will it turn the gps off?

I'm having massive problems with MM on my TP2 as well. On my iPAQ HW6915, I could load all of the A-Z of London, no proboems; likewise, I could load large swathes of Regions 1, 2, and 3, in chunks, no problem. On the TP2, I can't even get a quarter of the size of those map chunks to load - I run out of space in RAM almost immediately. Not at ALL amused ISTR seeing somewhere that this is due to the RAM hogging of the TouchFLO interface - can anyone confirm this?

I have found memory map to be a good edition to my TP2. I have been on walks in the North Downs and around Swanage and have found it to very useful and accurate.
The maps can be a little tempremental but I find if I turn off and on again this seems to cure any problem. The largest map I have on my TP2 is 50.9mb.

maps
i am running mm on my touch hd with no problems try mm web site

I have had a reply from memory map explaining that wm6.1 can only handle data in smaller chunks, so I need to split the maps up into smaller sections.
However, I still dont know what happens when I turn the device off. Will it switch the GPS off or will it still keep tracking my position?

I have been using memory map on the TP2. I too had to chop my maps smaller than when using the Kaiser, but the bigger screen is likely to eat more RAM. For info, my maps open up to about 120M unless I have other apps open at the same time. I have re-chopped the maps with maximum 97M and don't have problems with multi-tasking, but then again, I don't have touch-flo enabled - nor do I use SPB Mobile Shell anymore.
Can't answer the question about tracking in suspend mode as I always put the handset in my pocket when it's suspended, so it loses the signal.

Is mine a different problem then because my maps wont open even though the file size is only 56.8MB?

HTC TouchFlo3d can cause problems with memory map as well, restricting the map file size further. Theres a few other threads on this (try in the HTC Touch HD forum).
I've found if i do a reset before running Memory Map i have more success. Disabling the 'Album' tab also helps.
i've just reloaded mine with smaller maps though.
Need to find a WM5 ROM to run on my old MDA Compact III (Htc artemis) so i can run it properly!

NAVMAN's crap software

Does anybody have experience of Navman GPS software on the XDA II. I loaded the newest operating system as per instructions and then loaded the software. Now whenever the software is run, the whole phone runs at about a 1/50th of the speed.
Any suggestions as desperate. :?

Turn off incomming beams in control panel and try again!
Let us know how that goes? 8)
Thanks.
I tried turning off all beams but to no avail. Still painfully slow
What SD Card have you got the maps on? Make, Size etc
i have a SanDisk 1Gb SD card. Made in china
I was struggling setting up my Navman 4100 and also experienced a major reduction in the speed of the mapping software. It turned out I had the wrong com port setting in the GPS Status screen. I had no idea which com port it should've been until I followed the instructions here http://www.navman-europe.com/support.php?id=AA005410&faq=56
The EnableCharPin hack finally allowed my gadgets to talk to each other properly, thereby informing me of the correct com port to use.
Stick with it Spottrader, it's a pain to set up, but I can vouch for the fact that driving around being guided by 5 satellites is probably the coolest thing you'll ever do on a mobile phone ! 8)
(By the way, my incoming beams box IS ticked.)
Same thing here
Installed tomtom on my xda, an ipaq and a mitac mio. Same thing happened till I changed the gps over to tomtom gps on sp2.
All work fine, (even the bluetooth one on the ipaq)
Go figure.

Dash W/ Google Maps and Bluetooth GPS reciever?

I have a T-mobile Dash and i installed the new Google maps software for smartphones. and picked up a Cellink BTG-7000 bluetooth gps reciever.
I can't get google maps to detect the bluetooth gps
i paired the device and created a outgoing com port to the gps ( says BTG-7000 (com 7)
- ive tried un checking secure connection
- also created an incoming port but does not have gps reciever name in connection...
the google maps software says i have to goto the start - settings - GPS
but i do not have such an option.
Anyone have any ideas?
dave
Hmmm, I am not sure either. I just tried to get it to recognise my bluetooth gps device. Surely someone knows what is going on.
Same issue here
I am having the same issue with my Dash/Bluetooth GPS with Google Maps. There is a FAQ (http://www.google.com/gmm/gmmfaq.html?platform=winm-SmartPhone-T-Mobile+Dash/web#4) that refers to a "Settings->System->GPS" control panel applet that does not exist.
I have the same problem. I think the issue has to do with the initialization of the BT GPS unit and have WM see it first (as GPS) rather than as a BT device that it has paired with. The GPS applet would take care of it by sending it cold boot parameters etc.
Alternatively, you can download a smartphone version of the applet from the GPS manufacturer and run that before running Google Maps. I am not sure but it might fix the problem.
Edit: I wonder if the HTC S620 Variant has the GPS applet in its ROM? If it does, perhaps someone can extract the cab file and share it with the community. That might fix our GPS woes...
I'm running the s620 ROM. There is no GPS applet that I see...
there is no gps
Darn..that sucks.
the settings they tell you to go look at only exist in the PPC version.
Was able to use a BT GPS device to work with Windows LIVE search ( Google Mobile Maps rival )
If GMM can be forced to use a particular comm port it should also work .. anyone ?
HTC S620 phone BTW.
Figured it out !
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293018
Umm, same thing I wrote in the other thread:
Folks, is there a reason you guys are so desperate to use GMM? Especially knowing your GPS doesn't work natively without hacks?
Just use Windows Live Search Mobile? IMO, LIGHT YEARS ahead of GMM in terms of usability and fit and finish. AND it'll find your GPS both on GPSID (what GMM uses) as well as COM ports. No hacks. Simple. Straightforward. Elegant.
http://wls.live.com from your mobile phone. Click the Windows Mobile client.
I've played with both and I've found GMM to be much more one handable. Now when I say that I know WLS is one handable but things go slow. You can do things quick with GMM one handed.
Also GMM adds a features that WLS doesn't. One example is that if you go to a contact in your contact list it gives you the option to 'Locate on Google Maps' and it will use the address in the contact information to locate the contact on Google Maps. And I might be wrong but isn't Microsofts Satelite (Not Road Map) imagery older then googles?
GMM cleaner and smaller but lacking big feature
GMM also seems to use much less memory. Great footprint compared to WLS which slows the whole phone down. When I turn off WLS I also have to restart most of the time because the phone can't recoop some of that memory. The one thing I don't like about GMM is that when using the directions feature with GPS, you can only look at your route, or follow your track - not both at the same time like WLS. (IE right before every turn you get a popup with which way to go.) It's much more manual with GMM.

test gps chipset functionality

Hi there,
Is there a way i can test if the gps chipset on my new p3300 is working properly?. I installed Iguidance but it will never get a fix although it does auto detect the gps port . I ran quickgps over wifi and despite downloading the latest fixes, Iguidance fails to get a fix
I am looking for any freeware appz which can just tap into the gps receiver and start spitting some data so i can be assured its not the gps module but Iguidance. Something like a gps viewer which displays the # of sats, lat n longitudes etc.
I appreciate any help I can get as I have only 2 more days before i can get this device exchanged.
Thanks in advance!~
btw, I am running Wm6 using B&b3.7 rom
Search on google for visualgpsce.
Bye
Grab a copy of the TT GPS Driver 2,06 from here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=13 install that as it is an application in its own right.
Fire up the application on the Artemis and select the GPS tab in the application Use the following Settings:
Top drop down box "NMEA 0183v2 9600"
Second drop box "COM4"
Make sure the two sliders in the middle of the screen are to the right, then check the grey/ blue box top left, return to the "Status" tab and take the unit outside, you should see some activity and get a position fix after a couple of mins - Mike
Thank you guys so much..
After running the app, i got 12 sats in view and 7 fix. So w00t, the gps chip is working.
Now to figure out whats wrong with iguidance
Thanks again...
Not too sure about that app as I have not tried it (yet) - does the GPS hardware actually start when you fire up the application - if you can configure it to use COM4, Baud 9600 do so and try it again. The indication the GPS has fired up is down to the LEDs on the device, once started it will flash orange to signify its in use. If this doesn't happen you might need to look into using Fransons GPS Gate to present a virtual GPS port to the application - Mike
Well, I do see the orange light blinking when Iguidance is running but still sees no sat's.
I even upgraded to V3.01 and same issue. Also tried Franson gate app and no luck.
I could try tomtom since that appz does see the sats and gets a fix ( tried it using a free US map) but i am having trouble loading the N.A+canada map since i don't have the cab file for it just the extracted map files which Tomtom HOME will refuse to load unless its a cab file i believe
Off to google to hunt on instructions on how to make cab files...
last time i checked iguidance v3 wasn't compatible with the artemis.
Oh ic. I did come across a couple of posts reflecting the same .
Oh well..I loved the map loader feature of Iguidance. Sad to see its gone in the upcoming V4.
Anyways I got tomtom running.. i was suppose to have the maps in the root folder of the memory card not in a sub-folder !

GPS doesn't work

Hi Guys,
finally my new (german) Rhodium arrived today.
All is fine except the GPS module.
It seems deactivated and I have no idea how to activate it.
Google Maps doesn't work, GPS settings are gray and the GPScyclecomputer sais GPS it off.
Any idea what to do?
Thanks
Duke
In Google Maps under menu-options do you have windows manage the GPS settings?
Hi,
thanks for your reply.
The menuentry for the GPS settings is gray and unavailable.
The winmo GPS settings don't accept any chances at the hardware tab, hardwareport setting is none, i think thats because of the internal device?
Duke
My Touch pro 2 GPS also don't seem to work.
I have a dutch version of the TP2.
The HTC GPS Tool isn't able to get a fix.
TomTom 7 Isn't able to get a fix.
Its set to com 4-> None -> 4800 -> Let windows manage.
Is this perhaps a problem with other then english roms?
After a hardreset all works fine.
Needed about 20minutes for TomTom 7 to get a fix but finally it has one.
I have performed several hard resets with the 1234 okay and still no luck with the GPS I think i'm going to caal htc
I called HTC Netherlands.
They said TP2 is only compatible with Copilot 7.
Also they said to set it to com9 with a baud rate of 9200.
I'm unable to set it to a baud rate of 9200 it switches back to 4800.
So still no luck with the gps. I'm a little bit disapointed with the support.
I keep you posted.
I did contact the HTC support, too. They advised the hard reset.
Did you go out for a walk trying to get a fix? Did it for me.
You also should run QuickGPS to download current satelite data from the internet, and then get out, to a park maybe and give it time. Could be up to 30minutes!
Good luck!
load of crap if someone tells you that it's only compatible with Copilot. GPS chip will work any software as long as they are compatible with each other. TomTom 7 works just fine in TP2.
After a 100km drive with TT 7 still not able to get a GPS lokation with the internal GPS. Its set to COM 4 witha baud of 4800.
The Parrot T3200 easely finds 8 active GPS satalites.
I keep you posted.
It worked for me straight off with Live Search, no need to change any settings. Maybe Orange got something right for once?
Have you tried GPSTest (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360477 and many other places round here) that should help show what is going on.
Gordon
I tried that tool with diffrent settings.
It sees some red dots in the Satallite tab. But is also unable to connect to a satalite. Whilst with my parrot T 3200 it connects with the HTC GPS Tool.
Still the GPS and radio was not working after the WiMo 6.5 Upgrade.
I Called HTC and my touch pro 2 has been shipped to a repair center.
They replaced the motherboard and its working perfect now.

GPS lag in TT7

I have my rhodium for a week right now, and notice some gps lag in tomtom 7. I unlocked my rhodium with the hard spl and tried several roms and radio roms, most of them perform similar regarding the gps lag; tomtom is always one update tick behind.
If I adjust the POLLInterval in the registry, from 1000 ms to a lower value, the position on the map in tomtom is not updated more frequently, so the lag is still the same.
I also tried the gps patch from ITDev, but without succes, lag remains the same.
Then I switched the gps settings in tomtom to my old bluetooth gps, and also there is the lag. It seems the problem is somewhere in windows mobile or tomtom, and not in the qualcomm gps-one driver/settings.
Has someone tested the lag with another navigation package and compared that with the gps lag in tomtom?? I'm going to try it with navigon, and try just one more radio, the latest one: Radio_Rhodium_4.47.25.24. If that's not working I will wait till the official WM6.5 rom is released.
Another question, does somebody know how to get the assisted gps working?? or correct the gps lag?? I was unable to resolve the lag with any of the tweaks discussed here on XDA.
Just arrived today , the updated GPS fix, saw positive reactions!
http://www.htc.com/nl/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=250&act=sd&cat=all
I have tried that radio too, still a lag of 1 second in tomtom, the same as the update frequency, just one tock behind.
Just tested navigon, together with Radio_Rhodium_4.47.25.24. Completely no lag at all, when I drive over a roundabout it displays my position correctly, when a drive over bridges and rivers it displays my position correctly. When I do this with tomtom I already passed the roundabout while tomtom is stil approaching the roundabout.
When I look at the gps settings in Navigon is seems that navigon reads out the gps directly from com 4.
If I want to make a same setting in tomtom it is not possible. With some roms and radios com4 is not even listed in tomtom, and with other roms I have com4 but can only access it when I let windows control my gps. This box can be checked in the settings/system/extrnal gps dialog on the third tap (access). When I uncheck this box I don't get the internal gps working.
Strange that navigon does not have gps lag, and tomtom is continously 1 update tick behand. And the update frequency in Navigon is much larger then the update frequency in tomtom.
Sometimes the position freezes for a second in navigon, but after that the position is correct again.
To summarize, what an amazing difference between tomtom and navigon.
Where did u find the radio 4.47.25.24???
http://xdadev.f1ip.net/index.php?dir=Rhodium/Radio
that's where that radio comes from
tried that latest radio with tomtom, the gps lag is still not gone.
i'm not sure if this has to do with radio's roms etc. i tried igo 8 and tomtom. both lagged horrible. then with gps tweaks it improved a little .. but still lag.
Then i bought Copilot 8 .... NO LAG AT ALL .... nothing.... nada . When the car turned ... copilot is ready.
So ... why should it be the radio or the rom when lag differs on software ?
I think it has to do with programming the navigation applications.
i have also tried the patch from HTC for the radio and the lag is still there when using tomtom. surely between HTC and Tomtom this can be sorted out.
very frustrating to be paying such a lot for a phone only to find that the one application i use everyday works better on my 2 year old TYTNII.
If it was not for me recently renewing my traffic and speed cam sub then I would ditch them.
