Mail attachments saved as .att??? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hey guys,
I got a picture on my email account (gmail) and when I click on the attachment I can only see it, I can't save it.
I tried to get to the attachments directory with file explorer but attachments are saved as .att and I couldn't change the extension of the file (without copying to to a laptop, changing extension and getting it back on the device).
It's really basic requirement, when I get a doc or a picture and I wish you keep them on the device, I'd like the attachment to have the original file name and extension for easy opening on the device.
Any advice?
Thanks in advance

Tap & hold on the attachment and then tap "Save as" in the context menu that pops up.

Cannot open or save attachments

When I download e-mail in Pocket Outlook, I can see the attachments but I cannot open or save them. I think I'm doing everything as I should: after a "send/receive" the message arrives in my inbox; I hit "mark for download" to get the full version including attachment, and I click send/receive again. But after that, when I click the attachment or tap-&-hold it and click "save as", nothing happens.
Strangely, the attachments do get downloaded to the Windows/Messaging/Attachments folder, where they reside in the form of ".att"-files with long codenames. I can even open them by changing the extension (for instance to ".doc" for word files), but this is a pain as I have to copy them to another folder and try every single file since there's no way of recognizing them by their file names.
I have restored from a Sprite Backup once or twice, and since I understand these mailboxes are pretty complicated structures to recreate, I'm wondering if this could have caused the problem.
I have the following mail boxes in Pocket Outlook:
Text messages and MMS (standard)
ActiveSync, with a LOT of synchronized messages, all without attachments though (to save space)
Two e-mail accounts, one POP3 and one hotmail (with Adriansoft's HTTPmail plugin). This is where I sometimes need to download attachments. These messages usually get deleted pretty quickly, as I store everything in Desktop Outlook and keep my online mailboxes empty. However, I've noticed that even attachments from deleted messages are kept in the Windows/Messaging/Attachments folder.
Operating system is Pocket PC 2003 SE.
Has anyone had this problem before? As I don't have any attachments I need to keep (none in ActiveSync folder, and the POP3 and hotmail accounts are emptied into Desktop Outlook regularly), do you think it's safe to delete all the files in the Windows/Messaging/Attachments folder? Would this perhaps help (by forcing Pocket Outlook into a "clean start" organizing attachments)? Hard resetting and rebuilding from scratch is not an option, I'm afraid, as I use my device intensively and don't have the time to do this.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Hi Robrecht
I have been having the same issue.
Have you mannaged to fix yours yet?
What you can try if you have restored using SpriteSoftware before is using there cleaning software. It will basicly clear and reset all your mail folders, attachment databases..etc..etc.
http://www.spritesoftware.com/downloads/CleanMail.zip
Please let me know how you go and if you have found a way of fixing your problem if you have already done so... This file did not fix my issue but is has fixed others with attachment issues.

Same Problem here.
Anyone find a solution yet??
Thanks!
Change registry keys that points to attachments location
Got the same problem on my iPAQ 5550.
Don't know which application setup caused the problem, but I found a solution changing some registry keys that points to attachments location.
First of all I suggest to backup your pocket pc data.
Open windows notepad or other text editor
Copy and paste the following lines:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox\Attachments]
"BottomDir"="Attachments"
"MiddleDir"="Messaging"
"TopDir"="Windows"
"AttsDir"="\\Windows\\Messaging\\Attachments\\"
"Moving"=dword:00000000
Save the file as FixAttach.reg (or choose a different name mantaining the .reg extension).
Copy the file on your pocket pc, and tap on it.
Let me know if it works.

possible to attach multiple files at once to an email?

Am I missing something, or is the process for adding email attachments just horrible?
Just now, I'm specifically trying to email a few photos at a time.
If I try and do it from File Explorer - when you highlight more than one file, the "Send" option in the menu isn't available.
If I try and use Total Commander, the only option is to send via IR.
If I try and do it from within the 'compose email' screen:
a) if I try Insert -> Picture, I can't select mutiple files. And it takes me to the devices "My Pictures" folder every time and all my images are stored on storage card, so it's a real hassle having to go back and forth.
b) if I try Insert -> File, it takes me to this HORRIBLE "Open" page which seems to be attempting (and FAILING!) to show all the files on my device in one window. And even then, you STILL can't select multiple files.
Is there any way to do this?
(Very weird - and annoying - for a business device to fail so badly at something like this. Unless I'm missing something!!)
Thanks, M
To the best of my knowledge, you are doing everything right. I don't think there's a way to select multiple files to attach all in one go.
What I normally do if I want to attach multiple files, I use Resco Explorer to compress the files into a zip. Then I attach the single zip file instead.
Thanks ohyeahar. I'd thought of that - and may still use this method at points - but there are times when it'd be good to use single files as well. (e.g. uploading photos to facebook, they have to be single jpg files)
Just seems terrible that such a basic functionality is left out.

In Resco explorer if you slide your finger over the icons, it makes multi-selection. Just if you missed it.

Youtube on HTC Tilt 2 is already installed.

My first post on xda.
Tools > File Explorer > Windows > YouTube (444K sized file will do just fine)
Copy the file and paste shortcut in Start Menu> Programs
The next step is very important.
Goto:Settings >Connections>Connections>Advanced Tab: Select Network button: Change bottom drop down to Media Net. Both drop downs should be Media Net.
Thats it.

Hi,
I did as you stated but my YouTube program does not launch from within the start menu, it just stays highlighted when I click on it.
I did a soft reset and nothing changed.
It works if I go to Tools > File Explorer > Windows > YouTube 444K and click on the file.
Any one else had this problem and know how to fix it ?
Thanks
It works for me, but it take forever to connect and sometimes just end up ERROR can not play. I spend more time watching the 'connecting' on the screen than the video I want to watch.
The only YouTube file that works for my Tilt2 was downloaded from google mobile- by using the MS IE, not Opera. The only issue (minor) i get is when i select a video file- it will go into landscape opposite the native landscape of the Tilt2. not a biggie. However, it works fine when using ''changescreen" app (enabled).

i am having the same issue. it highlights but doesnt activate the program.
if you go to the exe file in fileexplorer and then press and hold the exe file, a screen will popup with the options to "send shortcut to programs" hope this helps
I feel pretty silly...
I was able to find the YouTube files on my phone. I copied them over to "Program Files" (which, as I've read here, isn't the way to go about it) So I deleted the files I copied over to there. Problem is, it deleted both the "copies" and the original files :/
How can I retrieve the Tilt 2's version of the YouTube application without completely wiping out my phone?
Thanks for any and all help.
no sound on youtube app
I was able to copy the shortcut over and when I double click on it the client works but there is no sound. What gives?

You don't paste it to the menu directly, you have to paste it in /Windows/start menu/programs directory on your phone
Youtube app in start menu
i had the same problem puttin the Youtube app that comes with the Tilt 2 on the start menu and actually getting it to work, but after a whole day of messin with the settings, i finally got it on the start menu, and workin!
first what i did was
opened the file explorer<windows
from here you will sort by name so it appears from a to z(only if u need to because mine showed from z to a)
then you will scroll down to the Youtube folder, click and hold down to copy.
after you copy it you will paste it under the program files (my device<program files)
after that you will need to copy the actuall app and add it to the start menu.
the app will be found under the my device<windows: scroll very closely to the bottom of the list to find the app, click on the one that says 25b. click and hold on it then copy it and paste it under the start menu folder at the top of the windows<programs.
now when you click your start menu there should be the youtube app and should work. i have only tested it under my wifi settings at the house but it should work on 3g.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!
and if you want to rearrange the start menu, i recommened downloading the JWMD-Icon-Changer at:
pocketpc-freeware.net/jwmd-icon-changer-get-12511.html
i downloaded it fomr my pc and sync my phone to my pc after saving the app and draggin and droppin it into my phones file explorer and then installed it from there.
we already had it on the stock rom? I downloaded it from google mobile with google maps :X...anyways, no probs with the way I did it...idk
thanx vic1307, your method worked perfectly!

Any reason we don't cut and Paste, instead of copying...doubling the file?
You can't "paste" into the start menu folder....you can't paste into any folder that is already full, because there is no empty space that you can place your cursor on and hold to get menu to pop up.
If you try it ends up clicking on an item in the folder, because there are no empty spots to click on in the folder..
This is one thing that really annoys me with wm6.5....thank the idiot that designed this feature.
ok, I just cut everything out of the start up menu file, and pasted the youtube file into the blank folder, then pasted everything else back into the start up menu.
annoying, but affective. Deleted Google's youtube. Like the stock look one much better. ;D
Post #8!!! That is your answer!!!! Do NOT COPY the exe file to the start menu!! Either copy the YouTube.lnk file to the start menu, or send the exe file to the start menu as a short cut. Also, if you are using the native file explorer, then you may not see the .lnk or .exe file extensions to know the difference.
You should see the files in this order:
*at$t rom*
YouTube.exe (with YT icon) 458k
YouTube.exe.0409 (windows icon) 10.9k
YouTube.lnk (YT icon) 25b <-- file size should be another clue it is just a short cut.
You want a copy of the .lnk file in the start menu.
There are two YouTube apps, one is an HTC app that is hidden on the phone, the other is Google's and it has to be downloaded. I like the HTC app better myself btw.

How to save email attachments

I emailed myself a cab file that I would like to install on my device. I have Outlook configured to storage attachment on my storage card. I find an inbox.mst folder on my storage card, but every file has a .att attachment. I found the file that it must be, because of date and size, and copied to another folder and then renamed it. Once i launched it, it was the .cab that I wanted. But is there a better way to save email attachments?

When you open an e-mail you should see the attachment listed, just as you would on a desktop Outlook (even though you've set it to be stored in the bundle on the storage card). If it hasn't actually been downloaded from the server yet (because of how "attachment-size" restriction has been set) you'll need to have it do that first. Then do a long press on the name of the attachment and a little dialog-window should pop up/open with "save as" as an option. Select it.

Attaching Dropbox files to email

I might be missing something here, but when I want to attach a file from my Dropbox to an email I'm sending using the stock email app, I select the attach option, then 'my files'. From here I can't find where my Dropbox files are located. Before Kitkat, I recall there being an option to browse the Dropbox folder. I found a workaround where I choose to attach an image, which DOES give me the option to browse my Dropbox folder, then select the 'show all files' option, then just select any non - image file I want to attach. It'd be easier to be able to browse all my files in one place though. Anyone with experience know what I'm doing wrong, if anything? Thanks.
You are better off sending a link to the file.
