a newb asking a few questions - XPERIA X1 Themes and Apps

Hi, I just got two fairly simple and important questions to ask. I'm quite new to using xperia and the wm software, so there's still a lot that i'm learning.
1. Where Can I find a Garmin Mobile XT with North American map? Just the north american map would work just as well. if there's no free method of doing that. is there another program aside from google earth that I can use as my gps program? just to specify, since I live in Canada, I need a Canada map.
2. What's a good slide lock type of program that I can use for my phone? I really like the pattern lock from HTC, is there something similar like that for the xperia.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0NbEld2UEc&feature=PlayList&p=C54DB0D10D155015&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=19
3. what program or steps can I take for me to be able to play .rmvb or .ram files on my x1? I've tried quite a few different ways, but then none seem to be working. I even tried installing the real player v1.1 on my phone and it doesn't work.
Thanks a lot for the help.

Google "Garmin Mobile XT" works. You could also look at TomTom or Route66 or iGo. Or look at Nav4All for a free solution (without maps).

Sorry, never even heard of .rmvb and .ram. Maybe CorePlayer?

1 more question for everyone. I got WM 6.5 on my x1, but then for some reason, I can't get my optical touch pad (that little plastic key in the middle of the keys at the bottom that can be used as a touch pad) to move around to do scrolling anymore. does anyone know how to re-enable that function?
Thanks for the help.

Is there a fix for HTC home Weather plugin with T-mobile tzones internet?

Did anyone manage to get this weather plugin to work with Tmobile tzones ($5.99) internet? I tried to search for this issue but couldn't find a clear answer.
I works fine via ActiveSync or Wireless internet - but no go for t-zones proxied connection.
If I understood correctly, you would like to load the weather data over T-mobile. Correctly?
If, functions perfectly. Only select city and completely.
Or did you want another program, in place of the HTC weather Plugin?
Describe nevertheless please times which as much money costs there.
I am not safe me whether I you correctly understood.

I think you need to learn the English language a little better, before you try to help others... hehe I have no idea what you're talking about!
There's a fix for it. Someone created a server for the HTC plugin to get its data from and it works through TMobile (tzones or not). Read the HTC Home plugin threads around here and I'm sure you'll find a cab...
I tried the patched version on t-mobileweb and still couldn't get it to work..
I use spb mobile shell. It works.

As far as I know - SPB uses it's own weather plugin. I'd like to use HTC home weather.

Yes, that what's happening to me. There is a thread for HTC Home weather fix, but it looks like the author is rarely responding to peoples questions. Yes, he created a modified cab file that uses one of his servers to re-route the data, but somehow it's not working. I believe it's because of t-mobile tzone internet is using proxied access. On the regular internet access (thru WIfI or wireless lan or activesync) the plugin works great.
Is there a lucky person who managed to get this plugin to work on T-mobile USA tzones internet?
juzzie: the 6tab cab worked for me on this t-mobile plan:$29.99/month, Unlimited w/o VPN, internet2.voicestream.com. And U'r right, it looks like the owner of that thread has left the building!

Yep, I know. It's working on T-mobile data plans. But I'm using tzones which is a proxied connection.
To tell you honestly - I gave up. I tried Fizz weather and it works like a charm. It offers far better weather related services and takes only a thin bar on the home screen. You just have to configure it properly: I'm using 2 days forecast including current weather.
Been Trying!
I been trying for a long time now everyday to find the answer to Tmobile USA not being able to use the htc plugin weather program. I myself have full access internet 29.99. sometime it will load it, some times it wont. Maybe its where your at? check the tmobile site www.tmobile.com to see how is your signal. If everyone can come up with a test simple it would be faster to figure it out. Developers neeed help and imput. good luck
yeah, the modified cabs of the HTC weather plugin will only work on a non-proxied connection. I'm having the same trouble, and have tried everything out there.
N2A (creator of the modified HTC weather server) goes thru port 80 which is blocked on $5.99 T-zones, so thats where we suffer.
As far as SPB mobile shell goes, does it integrate with HTC Home tabs? or is it something on its own? any screen captures available?
Well maybe you can ask the guy nicely to make another dll for you that will connect to his server using a different port !

lol, I guess I could do that.
I would also recommend WeatherPanel with the "son of commuter 240" theme. It's just an awesome combination...
Maybe, just maybe this could help
Hi, I recently changed a HTC Touch (T-mobile GER) around completely to get rid of the (for me) unwanted carrier specifics of the original Rom. I Backuped the Ext Rom in which I came across the attached cab (I frankly don't have any idea what it does - all other contents were merely hompage setting or spftkey changer app...)
Since Tmob found it useful to play with the weather, maybe someone could see what's inside. Maybe it could solve the problem.
Cheers, Chris

www.tomtom.com ;-)
if your using 3G you could also use Googlemaps for the phone.
for more information: http://www.google.com/mobile/gmm/index.html
point your phones browser to http://www.google.com/gmm
any freebies?
The only free one I know of is Googlemaps that I already spoke about. tTough you pay for the data downloaded via your ISP using 3G/Wifi.
tbh who would make a GPS Navigation application and ask nothing for it?
How about smart2go, you can download the maps for free of Europe and do navigation (on screen) all for free. The only bit you pay for is the voice prompts.
I use tomtom, but I've given it a go and it works pretty well. I'm planning on using it in greece later in the year as there's better coverage than the version of tomtom I have.
It's a little fiddly to get the map loader program to install the maps, but if you try and have a problem let me know and I'll try and find out what I did to get it working.

i would like the tomtom version....actually everyone is talking bout it also.

I love all the answers skirting around what he's asking for...
Nobody can give you a link to Pirated software on this forum, sorry. Search Google for that.
Another FREE alternative is Microsoft Live Search. It's actually a pretty good GPS program if you look around in it. Also, it uses speech recognition to input what you are looking for. Give it a try.

The Opera browser does it automatically. For everything else, practically every TP2 owner has installed 'Gyrator 2' or 'screenChanger' (my favourite), which are free apps utilising the G-Sensor. They run pretty much silently and allow you to configure which programs you want to rotate etc.
Get the TP2 - You know you want to.
Yes. But only by sliding out the keyboard. You can use the G sensor, but then you have to adjust the registry.
Theres a reg hack to enable the change orientation function to be shown in the screen to change button assignments. So you can set when you hold down the send button it changes to landscape mode. And you don't have to pull out the keyboard!
I can't remember what it was mind.. but it's on these forums somewhere.
thank you all.
thank you brynweb for those programs.
thank you quarintus.
andrewrees: if you remember the post, please tell me.
thanks a lot
i have tried Gyrator, and the problem i´ve seen is that the program must be running if you want to rotate screen.
correct or im wrong?
you dont need to use any program
there is a reg hack on here to allow it to tilt auto in things like calender etc etc
read this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=526701
I did the reg that doesnt need any program running and it works great. With a bit of modding I got it to do TomTom, too.
TomTom on PDA is OK, but it still doesnt have text to speach for spoken street names.

changeScreen does a better job of hiding itself than Gyrator. One day I'll use the reg hack, but I'm still in the tinkering stage where I can't make up my mind about what programs I want to rotate, so it's easier for me to use the program option right now.

That is correct. However, mine starts itself at startup and you can tell it to minimise when it starts, so you don't need to worry about starting it up all the time. It also doesn't use much memory, so you don't need to worry about that either.

A Couple Of Questions

right so i have some questions that i hope some of you may be able to answer if possible
1. i have both GoogleMaps and TomTom installed, i use my wireless and can use GoogleMaps right away no problem but TomTom just doesnt want to load - i can never seem to get a good GPS signal is there anything else i can do to make it better? i have WIFI on and using home network but i get nothing
2. i have Mobile Shell 3 installed and as i said i love it but, i have seen better options for dialers out that and i installed Dusk Default and when i press the answer key i get the view that i expect but when i press contacts on the Mobile Shell front screen i go to the mobile shell version and when i get incoming calls i get the mobile shell version is there a way to change this too the Dusk Default version?
2.a are there any ROMS that have the same lifestyle interface as Mobile Shell 3 - i know they copied it from the google phones but has any Rom makers copied it as im loving the one that comes with Mobile Shell, its just with them forcing you to use all aspects of Mobile Shell that annoy me as some areas arent as good as some apps / roms out there and maybe i would consider changing to a different rom that had this feature and allow the use of different apps for certain things like dialers
3. now this sounds funny but i have trouble answering calls, its not that they dont get through or anything its the slide option to answer it i just cant seem to get it i try answering but it hangs up is there a way to change this? i know about the hardware button for it but i forget about that as i pay too much attention to the screen
4. are there any games out there that are as good as Xtrakt as i am loving it, shame only 10 levels hope they would release some packs or something for it but i have searched and searched but havent found any that are anywhere near as good as this - got any ideas?
1. TomTom is not data related: go out home and switch on TomTom without WiFi
2. Or a MS3 option to switch to default dialer exist or You must unistall MS3 but I don't knoe well MS3 (I use Manila)
2.a MS3 isn't free so no ROMs include it
3. Intall HDTweaks 0.54 and set option "dialer skin" to "Default Windows Mobile"
4. I can't help you you could search with Google
D'rath
thats what i thought for TomTom but i can never get a signal for it, even when outside is there a way to boost the performance to get a better signal? as for the HDTweak thing, i have that but cant find the dialer option where exactly is it?

Or try news groups. For oziexplorer, there is a demo version on the web site. Maps via news groups
Hi!
I like NaviComputer a lot. It is free and you can use the NaviMapper application, which comes with the installation on your desktop to download OpenStreetMaps. This way you can stay offline all the time, but have great maps.
This tool is not meant to be a Navigation software like TomTom etc.
The only downside of the program in my opinion is, that you cannot search for street names. You always need to have a rough idea, where you want to go.
I'm using it for GeoCaching for instance.
