[TUTORIAL] How to S-OFF your HTC Desire

Hi there !
Many people here want to be S-OFF on their HTC Desire but don't know how to be, this thread is for you !
Credits goes to all AlphaRev developpers.
What is S-OFF ?
(Quotes from original AlphaRev website)
HTC implemented security on their newer generation phones. This flag, called @secuflag, controls whether your phone has
it's NAND or flash unlocked. Most noticeably, S-ON (security on) will read-lock your /system and /recovery partition, to name a few. Also, secuflag controls whether zip files being flashed through recovery or fastboot, are signed by HTC.
The now notorious S-OFF (security off) will disable this NAND security.
Since we are unable to access the Radio NVRAM itself (where secuflag is stored), we turned our attention to HBOOT.

There is many solutions to install S-OFF, this tutorial will show you few methods.
TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK ! I'am not responsible of bricked phone, for more help try the OFFICIAL Thread.
PREREQUISITES :
a ROOTed HTC Desire ROM with debugging option enabled on it.
a computer running Windows XP/Vista/Seven (32 or 64 bits), Linux, or Emulation via WMware etc.
a computer which can boot USB devices (for USB method only)
a branded USB Key 32Mb or more (for USB method) or a CD to burn (for CD method).
EASIEST method so far seems to be now by "Revolutionary" method.
Please check this out before trying solutions below (they are manual and maybe outdated, because I don't have the time keep updated this topic, moreover I don't own anymore a HTC Desire).
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDES :
.: USB METHOD :.
Be sure to Nandroid backup your device from recovery (just in case).
Download the latest Universal USB Installer or UnetBootin.
Download ISO Reflash Utility from AlphaRev website.
Install the software of your choice.
Open it, and select your USB device and your AlphaRev ISO freshly downloaded.
Create your bootable USB key.
Reboot your computer and boot on the USB key you freshly created.
Press any key to accept the disclamer.
Once you are in your ROM, plug your Desire with the USB cable on your computer.
/!\ DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING TILL YOU GET THE FINISH MESSAGE AT STEP 3 /!\
(Some users reports it can take over 1 hour. Passed this time, pull out the battery and reboot your phone).
The USB key method worked 100% for me, I personally installed my S-OFF exactly like that on my Desire.

Note : If for some unknown reasons you cannot access your Recovery anymore, it's normal, you must flash your Recovery using "fastboot" (SDK Android Kit must be installed on your running computer).
You have the choice between flashing a custom recovery like ClockWork one or put the original one but I sugger you the custom one which gives you much many more features
How to flash your recovery using ClockWork's image :
Download Clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 recovery image from official AlphaRev thread for bravo.
Move the file into "C:\android-sdk-windows\tools" (default sdk android folder's installation).
Verify MD5 checksum of the image with a freeware like HashCalc or something (IMPORTANT !).
Go to the main menu of your AlphaRev HBOOT (turn on your device with return button pressed).
Go to "FASTBOOT" mode.
Go to your computer and open a new terminal (Administrator privileges required if Windows Vista or 7).
Enter exactly this (without ") : "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img".
Now you will have a ClockWork Recovery image installed and working
Note 2 : If your device freeze on boot logo, apply your Nandroid backup that your did before S-OFF.. that should do the trick.
If one day you want to S-ON your phone again, just reflash an original RUU rom !

It's nearly the same, you don't have to install universal usb installer, however, it is Windows-only.

Yeah, I found it much easier to just burn to a rewrittable CD. F8 on bootup to load up my boot menu, then I selected my CD Rom.

nice tut, simple and very clearly...
oh don't forget to put in the first post for ppl who gets stuck at stage 3 (it happen to me) just to wait for about 30 minutes or more (don't know exactly how long, just for safety), and then pull out the battery and reboot the phone...
many ppl report it work....

I think I'm done with the flashing of the hboot from alpharev
But now my phone keeps rebooting to the fastboot screen.
I've tried removing the battery and rebooting again, reboot from fastboot, reboot from clockwork recovery... but i still cant boot up my rom.......
Anyone can shed me a light on what went wrong?

All options to apply S-off should be included, this is a 'how to', and this is not THE only way to do it, personally I found virtual box the easiest method for me. I just think that some other options should be made clear to people, maybe people that have used a different method could add their own ' how to' to this thread?

Sorry to noob it up here but what are the benefits of S-OFF. im guessing it means security. does this enable us to hack the kernal? as a user who doesnt do programming but likes to mod my phone alot what could i gain out of this?

Maybe its a good thing to sum up the benefits on the first page, to stop these kind of questions and making it a 500 page topic where you cant find answers...

I have now read all the information i can find about S-OFF - Only advantage i can find is that you can change bootscreen.. What are the options if i choose to make S-OFF on my phone - What else can i change ? My phone is rooted, and i have flashed roms and kernels with S-ON - So you guys really need to show more advantages to this than what has already been written..

Root Guide - Pt. 1 - Info
So, you wanna root?
Rooting is not easy like some people make it out to be. All these 1 click Noob-Proof tools can actually go wrong. And they do.
But lets get this clear, IT'S ALMOST impossible to brick. I'd put the odds on about a 99.9% chance you will not brick beyond repair. However, things probably will go wrong, which is why you will need to follow the instructions very carefully.
Pre-Root Info
I want to make sure the rooting process goes well for as many as you as possible, so get ready to read lots of information that will turn you from a Noob into a lean, mean rooting machine.
And for those of you who like to slack off and think "I cba to read all that crap", I've made it so you have to answer a question to get the download links. Aren't I nice. Seriously though, it really will be a lot easier for you if you read all of this, you will thank me for it one day.
Pro users who know what HBOOT is, how to flash a ROM and can use ADB can safely skip this step

OK, I've talked enough now, let's get down to business...

Root Guide - Pt. 2 - UnrEVOked
So, hopefully you now know all the terms, which makes my life a lot easier as I don't have to explain everything. Let's begin.
Root Guide - Pt. 2 - UnrEVOked
1) Ensure you have downloaded and extracted the first download in the above post to somewhere you can remember and access easily. For the purpose of this guide, I will refer to that folder as the 'Root Pack'.
Next, we are going to prepare the UnrEVOked program to run. If you are a Windows user, this means installing the drivers, if you use Linux or Mac you just have to run the app as mentioned later. We have to install HTC Sync to get adb drivers and we have to uninstall it again as it interferes with UnrEVOked. The drivers however remain which is why you need to install it.
2) (Windows Only) If you have not already, download HTC Sync and install it. Then uninstall HTC Sync as well as any other software that may interfere such as doubletwist. Next, follow this guide to set up the hacked HBOOT drivers. Make sure you reboot your PC after doing this.
Next, we need to prepare your phone. We will make sure USB Debugging is on as UnrEVOked needs this to send adb commands to the phone. We also need to enable Unknown Sources so that UnrEVOked can push busybox and SuperUser Permissions apps to the phone.
3) With your phone go to Settings > Connect to PC > Default connection type > Charge Only and untick Ask Me. Then go to Settings > Applications > Development > Make sure USB Debugging is ticked. Then go back to Applications and make sure Unknown Sources is ticked.
Next, we're going to run UnrEVOked. What it does is reboot into HBOOT mode, and use an exploit to gain a temporary NAND unlock. Then it uses fastboot to flash a recovery image, and then pushes the su files required for root.
4) WINDOWS USERS: Right click on the 'unrevoked.exe' file (Or something similar) in the Root Pack and click 'Run as Admin' (Not required for XP)
LINUX USERS: Right click the 'ClickHereToRoot.sh' file and UnrEVOked will start. (Make sure you chmod 755'd it first)
MAC USERS:

GETTING A MISC RELATED ERROR? See post eight.
Your phone should now reboot and then congratulations! Your phone is rooted. However, the root that UnrEVOked gives you is basic. No ROMs or good stuff. So you must read on to the next post to flash a custom ROM...

Root Guide - Pt. 3 - Flashing Your First ROM
Now you've rooted, let's flash a ROM. We will backup all your apps then flash a ROM then restore your apps. Ready?
Pt. 3 - Flashing Your First ROM
**NOTE: You can repeat Pt. 3 every time you want to flash a new ROM or update
Next we're going to download and use Titanium Backup to backup all your apps as we will have to wipe your phone to install the ROM. You can use the same method if you ever want to backup/restore in the future too.
1) Download & Install Titanium Backup from the market. Open it and hit the 'Problems' button to download busybox, a suite of commands for rooted phones.
Then hit menu then batch, and tap the button next to Backup All User Apps + System Data. Let it complete before moving on to the next step.
Next we're going to reboot into recovery mode to flash the ROM. You can use this if you ever need to get into recovery in the future.
2) Turn your phone off and turn it on again holding POWER + VOL DOWN to enter HBOOT mode. Wait a few seconds while it checks for images before using the VOLUME KEYS to scroll and POWER to select Recovery. Your phone will now vibrate and reboot into recovery mode!
Next we're going to do a full backup of your phone using Nandroid. This will backup the entire state of your phone in case you ever
want to go back. You should really do this every time you flash a new ROM.
3) Use the TRACKBALL to scroll down to where it says Backup or Nandroid or Backup / Restore. Then select Backup and wait for it to finish.
Now we need to wipe your phone. Whenever you flash a different ROM you should Always do this, when you are updating the ROM you should check on the release thread for information.
4) If you are not on the Main Menu in recovery, hit back a couple of times to get there. Then, use the TRACKBALL to navigate down to 'Wipe Data / Factory Reset' and accept the scary warning to wipe your phone.
Now we can flash the ROM! Ensure you have downloaded a ROM and it is on the root (Not in any folders) of your SD card. The flashing process may take a few minutes.
5) From the Main Menu, scroll down to and select Install zip from SD Card and then select Choose zip from SD Card then select where you put your ROM and wait for it to complete. Then, select Reboot System Now to reboot into your shiny new ROM!
Your phone will now reboot, it may take a while to reboot as it's rebuilding the Dalvik Cache. If it still doesn't boot up after 10mins, pull the battery and consult the ROM thread for troubleshooting.
Now we're going to restore that Titanium Backup you made before starting Pt. 3. It will restore all your apps back but not system data. (ie Settings) You can use Titanium Backup any time you want to backup/restore your phone.
6) Download & Install Titanium Backup again and tap Menu Button > Batch > Restore Missing apps + data. It should prompt you to reinstall every app again.

Pt. 4 - Flashing a New Radio
Flashing a Radio
The radio is the lowest part of your phone. (ie It's the very first thing that loads when you turn your phone on.
Most ROMs will have a required radio version, but most will agree that it's best to be on the latest as they often improve battery life etc.
You can downgrade your radio and you can find your radio version by going to Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Baseband Version.
Your ROM should tell you on it's thread what the recommended radio version is, so download it, transfer it to the root of your SD card as you did in Pt. 3 then follow this.
Now we're going to reboot into recovery mode as we did in Pt. 3 to flash the new radio. There is also an app on the market called 'Quick Boot' which you can use to quickly get into recovery. The next step will assume you have this.
1) Open Quick Bootand tap Recovery then tap Allow on the SuperUser permissions prompt.
Note: The SuperUser Permissions app will prompt you whenever an app is requesting to use root. You should look over which app is requesting this before you allow it.
Next, we need to flash the radio. You do this exactly the same way as you flash a ROM, which you did in Pt. 3.
2) Use the same method you flashed the new ROM in Pt. 3 to flash the radio. You do not need to Nandroid backup or wipe to do this, just flash the zip.
Note: Your phone may reboot a couple of times and will show a picture of the Android Robot while it is flashing the radio. It has NOT crashed, it is flashing it. DO NOT pull the battery, it will reboot when it is done.
Your new radio has now flashed!

Apps2SD
A2SD
First, we need to get S-OFF to flash Amon-RA Recovery. You can use clockworkmod/ROM Manager to do this although it is very error prone so don't!
Now, I'll be honest, I really cba to write and provide support for people S-OFFing, so I'll link to someone elses instead.
But you can still post on this thread with questions, post there if the S-OFF doesn't work.
S Me OFF!
Download the AmonRA recovery image here before continuing. (Make sure you save it in the adb folder inside. the other stuff file below)
1) Make sure USB Debugging is on and make sure you downloaded the 'Other Stuff' file in post 2 and have extracted it to somewhere you can get to easily. (I always reccommend C:\root)
Next we need to flash Amon RA recovery. We will do this via the command line using fastboot. Your phone needs to be in booted Android mode for this next step.
2) Open a command prompt (Start > Run > cmd) and type the following: (you will need to replace some bits if you extracted the other stuff file to a different location.

cd root
cd adb
adb-windows reboot bootloader *let your phone reboot into fastboot before continuing*
fastboot-windows flash recovery what-you-called-amonra-recovery.img
fastboot-windows reboot
Next we are going to reboot into your newly flashed recovery image and repartition your SD card. This will format your SD card so please BACKUP your SD Card before continuing.
3) Open the Quick Boot app you downloaded in Pt. 4 and tap Recovery to reboot into recovery mode. Once you are in Recovery scroll down to and select Partition SD Card then select Partition SD. Now use the TRACKBALL to scroll up and down until you get the partition size you want and press trackball to continue. Now select 0 swap unless your ROM supports it and you know what it is. Then set the rest of the SD Card to FAT32 and press the TRACKBALL followed by the HOME BUTTON to confirm and start partitioning!
Note: If you want to use an ext3 or ext4 partition and your ROM supports it, select the SD:ext2 to ext3 option to upgrade to ext3 and the other one to upgrade to ext4. However, I would advise against doing this as you will wear out your SD Card faster.
Now, you need to check the ROM thread for info. Most ROMs activate it automatically when it detects an ext partition on your phone. On some others you need to flash a special update.zip. If you are unsure hit the help button on post 1 and we'll help you out.
Congratulations, you now have Apps2SD! Exactly what you will have (dalvik2sd etc) will vary between ROMs.

Unroot
These RUU programs that you use to unroot are Windows only, but fortunatley I wrote a tool for Linux called OpenRUU so you can flash them on there. If you are a Mac user, take a moment to ask yourself 'Why am I using a Steve Jobs product?' as there is no way for you to run the RUUs.
First, we are going to identify what RUU you need to download and flash then download it. (Bravo is the codename for Desire, all RUUs use this name)
1) Go to shipped-roms.com, click on the Android Robot then click on Bravo. Now, you need to recall what version of Android you were on before you rooted. If you were on 2.1, you need to choose one of the RUUs which say 1.21.xxx.x. If you were on FroYo, you need to choose one that says 2.xx.xxx.x. If you had a carrier supplied device you should also get the one that is applicable, but if you are unsure or your carrier is not listed go for one that says WWE. (World Wide English - All Languages) Or come on our IRC channel for advice.
Note: HTC Sync must be installed before continuing. The next step will also wipe all your apps + settings!
Next we're going to run the RUU, this should take around 5-10mins. DO NOT touch your phone during the flashing process!
2) Double click on the RUU file you downloaded in step 1, read the readme, and click to start the flashing process.
After it's done! Your phone now should be completley back to stock status!
If you get an error during the flashing process, try again and then come on our IRC help channel for assistance if it persists.

Fixing the annoying unrEVOked misc errors

I managed to find unrEVOked 3.2. If you want to use that as a fast-track then that's fine, but please read the following carefully:

This is only for 'Backup CID Missing' errors. if you use this on any other type of misc error it might brick.
Download. Run in replace of unrEVOked 3.21 in the standard guide.

Backup CID Missing
Unfortunately, because a couple of people corrupted their misc partitions during the testing of unrEVOked 3.2, they brought in a load of stupid, annoying safety features that included checking the misc partition on your phone.

What is misc?
Misc is a partition on your phone. It holds various switches and stuff, such as your:
Official HTC ROM Version
Your CID (Which tells the phone what carrier/region your phone is)
However, sometimes, the CID is not in misc or your misc is corrupted. This process will add in the CID to misc and reflash misc. (which may fix other misc related errors but probably wont)
Warning! Misc is quite an important part of your phone. If it gets severely corrupted you may loose USB access. Me or anyone on our IRC help channel take no responsibility if you **** up somehow.
This guide is designed for Windoze, Linux users use common sense adapting the instructions and can use a Linux hex editor like ghex. (Works just the same)
Please ensure you have downloaded the other stuff file on the second post before continuing and have extracted it to C:\root.
First, we need to use adb to grab misc off your phone. We will get temporary root then grab misc.
1) Open a command prompt on your computer by going to Start > Run and typing cmd then pressing enter. Now type the following pressing enter on each line. (Make sure your phone is connected and you have the drivers installed.)

adb-windows devices <---- Make sure it finds your phone before continuing
adb-windows shell <----- You should see a $
$ /system/__unrevoked_su <---- Getting temp root
# cat /dev/mtd/mtd0 > /sdcard/misc.img <---- Copying misc to your SD Card
# getprop ro.cid <----- This is your CID. Remember what this says, it should say something like HTC_000 or 1111111 if you have a goldcard

adb-windows pull /sdcard/misc.img misc.img <---- Getting the misc we copied before
You should now have a file called misc.img in the C:\root\adb folder.
Now come on to the IRC help channel here. We will stick the CID into the misc.img so you can carry on as it really is complicated. You can also post here if nobody is avalible and I will sort it ASAP.
(If you've done hex editing before, all you do is put the CID you got above in at position 0 then add a 00 at the end so the hex string looks something like "48 54 43 5F 5F 30 30 31 00")
Make sure you save the file that we give you back to C:\root\adb overwriting the original misc.img file.
Next we're going to push misc back on to the phone using a similar method to step 1. Have open a command prompt and cd to the correct directory as in step 1 before proceeding.
2) Type the following in the command prompt:

$ /system/__unrevoked_su <---- getting temp root again

Can I make a suggestion and ask for a quick guide on updating your recovery image? I have clockwork recovery mod from the first unrevoked tool and thought ROM Manager updated it (it says I am using 2.5.0.7) however whenever I flash a ROM it always says I am on 2.5.0.1. Not sure on how to update it and if I should rather apply the rule if it aint broke dont fix it .

Real nice, one flaw: you use volume keys to navigate in Clockwork (which is default for unrevoked) and trackball in amonra IIRC

[GUIDE] Debranding Bell Desire Z

Ok have just ran through this on irc and its confirmed working on a bell phone debranding to WWE
This will wipe your phone -- So backup all needed data
Although tested and really shouldn’t cause any damage I accept no responsibility for any damage caused by this. By doing this you are accepting all responsibility ​
What you will need
-- micro SD card reader
-- spare microSD or backup all data from your normal SD card
-- a WWE rom i,e THIS ROM
-- HeX editor
-- ADB shell set up and working
Part 1 GoldCard
1) Format the microSD card to FAT32 format (in card reader).
2) Put the microSD card in your device and boot it.
3) Open Up an ADB shell this doesnt need to be ran as root.
4) Enter 'adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc2/mmc2:*/cid' and press enter. You should get a very long number copy it.
5) Visit this page, paste in your number and reverse it.
6) Visit this page, enter your reversed number and create your goldcard image, which will be e-mailed to you.
7) Open the HxD hex editor. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you must run the application as administrator.
8) Go to the 'Extra' menu and select 'Open Disk'. Under physical disk, select Removable Disk (your microSD card), uncheck 'Open as Readonly' and click OK. Note that you should select physical disk NOT the logical disk. This is important!
9) Go to the 'Extra' menu again and select 'Open Disk Image'. Open the goldcard image that you received by email.
10) You should now have two tabs - one is your removable disk, the other is your goldcard image. Press OK when prompted for 'Sector Size' (selecting 512 (Hard disks/Floppy disks)) and click OK.
11) Click on the goldcard image tab. Go to the 'Edit' menu, choose 'Select All' then select the 'Edit' menu again and select 'Copy'.
12) Click on the 'Removable Disk' tab. Highlight offset (line) 00000000 to offset (line) 00000170 (including the 00000170 line), then click on the 'Edit' menu and select 'Paste Write'.
12) Click on the 'File' menu and select 'Save', accepting the warning.
Part 2 Grabbing Rom From RUU
1) Start the exe and leave it to load
2) once loaded leave it
3) navigate to C:\Users\**username***\AppData\Local\Temp\
4) look for pne of the two newest folders and open
5) within that folder there will be another folder open that
6) find rom.zip and copy to the sdcard
7) rename PC10IMG.zip
8) Put MicroSD card back into phone and boot to android
Part 3 MISC edit to allow downgrade
this part is only needed if you are downgrading i.e from
1.34.666.5 to 1.34.405.5
1) open up "ADB shell" and type SU to get # symbol
2) run
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17 of=/sdcard/misc.img

3) the phone should then scan the .zip file and ask to flash
4) after flash you will be debranded and running a WWE rom

So this changes a Bell-branded phone so that it can flash HTC ROMs, right ? Because even the "BellMobility" ROMs still seem to have "WWE" in their title.
What happens if you try to flash an HTC ROM to a Bell phone without this ? Would be useful to know, just for info.

I can confirm that I was the test subject on IRC and this unbranding of my Bell Desire Z worked perfectly.
I now have things like HTC Locations, and Car Panel present on my phone, and things like non-uninstallable game demos of Ashphalt, Golf, Uno, Bell PVR, GPS Navigator, Kobo, Zoompass, Tunes & Apps, TV & Radio are all gone.
After unbranding, everything is working as expected.
Thanks a ton to the op for dedicating his time on helping me unbrand my phone!

Humm never noticed the WWE in the bell mobility rom (could be to do with the Z being a WWE phone and the G2 not, but as they are moth the vision), but regardless you should be able to flash any Z to the HTC- WWE "debranded rom"

Given how long it's been there though, I'd be suprised if that's the ROM version that's shipping for Bell.

can't wait to get home and do this so i can get Locations and car panel

I think I'm going to hold off until a more current official NAM version of the HTC Desire Z ROM is available as it seems like only the EU/AP versions are available (unless I'm misunderstanding).
Atm, by disabling packages, I can get close to 'debrand' without having to flash. Only thing is I won't be able to get access to HTC Locations and Car Panel afaik.

Sorry, this may seem obvious, but does doing this require root? I'm pretty new to Android.

nope, you will even get MORE SENSE
(since Bell removed some HTC sense apps, and this firmware is the original, "purest" HTC Sense firmware)

Can anyone confirm that this is the same version that is shipping on the Bell Z? I am showing Build 1.34.666.5 on my Bell Z. I want to be able to get back to unrooted stock Bell firmware if I Desire. Will this unroot if I flash back to this ROM?

By the way, when you enter into the ClockWorkMod recovery, press the volume up-down-up for 3 times, you will see the option "go back" in the recovery menu.

i just bought the new phone in germany, and updated to 2.3.6 by kies, then i decided to flash the custom rom, from root to recovery and to rom, so i checked all the trreads here, so i did it like i just said above, and it has worked for 3 days perfectly, so i wanna share my way to do that. because my phone is a new one, so i didnt' need to backup anything...

The point is - why include the first (i.e. incorrect) version of the command at all? It would be much clearer just to include the correct version, after the change you mention. Including the incorrect version just makes the instructions more confusing.

[GUIDE][BR][LP]Complete guide for unlock bootloader and flash TWRP in H442F DUAL SIM

Hello folks!
It's been a while since last time I spent in this forum section (when the method for flashing Poland MM KDZ was published), but suddenly I decided to check the current development and it was great do discover that developers found a way to unlock bootloader! Then, I tried to do the procedures, found some adversities around the path, flashed stock KDZ for my device A LOT and finally managed to obtain a fully working LP stock with root and TWRP for my model: H442F (Dual SIM) ("LG Volt 4G" in Brazil).
The thing is: although a lot was done regarding the Spirit LTE, I found near zero information specifically for my device variant. Since I tried a lot of paths and eventually achieved an interesting result, I decided to write a full tutorial, with a lot of instructions and pictures for "novices" who desire learn all the steps but gives up at the high learning curve. Finally, I also wrote this tutorial in Brazilian Portuguese, which I believe will help at least some comrades (you can download the PDF in portuguese HERE).
Needed files:
LG Drivers (remove old ones if already instaled)
LG Flash Tool 2014 (credits to @quangnhut123 from this thread)
Brazilian H442F10a Firmware (this is a low speed server, I can upload to a better one if someone asks)
Android SDK Tools (for Windows users; Linux ones just install the package android-tools-adb)
Kingroot (or download here: www.kingroot.net)
Latin America Patched Aboot (credits to @pvineeth97 , for more info check this thread)
TWRP (or download here: https://twrp.me/lg/lgspiritlte.html)

Step-by-step
Download all needed files
Install drivers, SDK and unpack Flash Tool
Save all files in the same folder, but keep KDZ file inside Flash Tool folder
Put your phone in download mode (power off, hold vol+, plug usb in pc, keep holding until download icon appears)
Wait a little for Windows completely detects device and load all drivers
Verify in Device Manager if your pc detects phone as "LG Mobile USB Serial Port (COM#)"

Select KDZ file
Choose the downloaded H442F10a_03.kdz file
Choose CSE Flash
Click START
Then, "Clear phone software update registry"
You'll see a warning
Then, OK (no need to change country)
Another app will open for the flashing. If you are offline, it is possible to show just a "?" character. Wait patiently...
In about 5min it will finish
After some reboots, you'll see the phone starter screen. Just move forward (no need to configure anything right now, maybe wifi, but not google account)
Enable Developer Options going to Settings/General/Common/Software Information and tap some simes in Build Number until the "You are a developer" message appears
Go back to Settings/Developer Options and turn on USB Debugging
With Debugging on, choose MTP (for Windows) or PTP (Linux), and when asked, allow the computer
Now, make sure you installed (and know how to use, since I will cover just a few commands here) the Android Debugging Bridge (adb). It will be essential for some steps, as well for entering Recovery Mode (I will show some Linux screenshots because I do not use Windows - for this tutorial, just for KDZ flash - but with a working adb the commands are the same)
Open a command prompt (Windows: right click in start menu) or a terminal (Linux) and run "adb devices" to see if the device was detected. If not, run again and check if phone are asking permissions (and grant it)
Go (cd) to the folder with all downloaded files and write the commands (some names may be different if you downloaded individual files from official links)
adb push aboot_5120_patched.bin /sdcard/
adb push twrp-3.2.1.0-cn70n.img /sdcard/
adb push SuperSU-v2.82-201705271722.zip /sdcard/
adb install Flashify_1.9.2.apk
adb install KingrootV5.3.1.apk
At whit point, make sure your internet is fully working (3-4G or WIfi), then, open Kingroot and root the device
After a well successful root, go back to adb and run "adb shell" and then "su". The phone will ask root permission. Grant it and in adb again run "cd /sdcard"
Now we arrived a critical step. Make sure to type the command as is show, because an error may result brick. We will copy the modified aboot into the respective phone partition (check code, check picture, and double check!)
If everything occurs all right, will appear this message
Great! Now you have an unlocked bootloader! What we have to do now is fhash a custom recovery (in this case, TWRP).
Open Flashify, give root rights, then go into Flash/Recovery Image/Choose a file/File explorer/sdcard/[downloaded file]. When asked to flash click "YUP!" and then "Flash More" (as we do not want the phone to reboot right now)
An extra step I prefer to do is remove Kingroot, since it installs a lot of services and keep device substantially slow. If you prefer Kingroot over SuperSU, you are DONE!
Case you prefer SuperSU... Open Kingroot/.../Settings/Uninstall Kingroot
It will prompt if you are sure. Just click Continue/OK
Go back to prompt/terminal and run "adb reboot recovery"
Phone will enter TWRP!
Now, just a few steps!
Go to Install and flash SuperSU
Go to Wipe and do a Factory Reset
Go to Settings and disable TWRP app installer (optional)
And finally go to Reboot and choose System
DONE!!!
Now you have a phone with an unlocked bootloader, a recovery capable of doing a lot of stuff (sideload, wipe cache, backups), and rooted as well.

A really good job, I'm sure a lot of your fellow countryman will find this very useful!

Thanks for the instructions. After unlocking its bootloader, wil it be compatible with any H440 custom rom (single sim operation, of course)? Or the only custom rom we get is Cm12?

Well, unfortunately I don't know. I made the procedure, wrote the tutorial, and 2 months later changed my phone for a new one. Can't test anymore.

Yes, it should be compatible with any custom rom as long as your phone is Lg spirit LTE( snapdragon variant ).
