[PROJECT] Android Flan 2.1 Hero build with Sense UI - Added conf for swap partition - Touch HD Android Development

So I will start from polyrhythmic's thread about porting Eclair Hero 2.1 to Kaiser.
A package with all files is available now. Thanks herpez
So Let's have Android 2.1 on Blackstone (HTC HD) Now.
I "Guess" this build is generic, Not sure which devices can it be run on.
babijoee, if it's generic, then "One For All, All For One".
I could successfully installed Android Flan 2.1 with SENSE UI on my Blackstone, and here are my results:
Working:
-Radio Fully Works.
-SMS Fully Works.
-Vibration.
-USB Charging and Debugging.
-Touch screen.
-Keyboard.
-Microphone.
-Front Speaker.
Not Working
-Wifi
-GPRS
-GPS
-Bluetooth
-External Speaker
-HTC Widgets. (Thinking of getting rid of them)
-Other things (Will be determined during the process of testing)
Issues:
-Very slow when booting first time. (Reason is Rosie UI Launcher, I removed it locally and increased Boot speed as well as the whole device itself clearly)
-If you feel that the device is freezed, no make sure cuz it's not. It's just doing SO MANY processes.
-This build needs patience, so if you are not patient please save your device from your anger and don't test it.
Download: (So all credits goes to polyrhythmic now, and we will use his files to make Android 2.1 work perfectly on Blackstone).
http://www.4shared.com/file/185118411/18defbb0/filessense.html
Thanks herpez for upload. herpez Tested it and it's working.
Installation:
1- Download the Package and exctract it to your computer.
2- IMPORTANT - Download the zip file that is attached with this post, extract it and copy ALL the files in it to conf folder in the build.
3- Copy the files to your SD-Card. (MUST use clean one)
4- So your SD card will look like this:
SD Card Root
/conf/*ALL CONF FILES IN THE ATTACHED ZIP
Haret.exe
initrd.gz
zImage
rootfs.img
system.sqsh
startup.txt
5- Run Haret.
6- Post your feedback !Important!
IF you're using a swap partition on your SD card DOWNLOAD THIS and rename it to eclairhero.user.conf
Note: This build is useless without creating a swap file, the .conf file will create a swap file, otherwise use a swap partition to store data in.
Screenshots and FAQ are to come.
Cheers,

THNX for YouR WorK !!!

Brilliant! But so poor that the essential HTC widget of Sense cannot run and it was unable to connect to the internet =(

So this is real duh, btw Android 2.1 is called Flan not Eclair.
i'd like to remind that this test builds are unstable, test at your risk and make a backup, i lost all data on my SD card after testing the first Eclair build (android 2.0.1).

509 Bandwidth Limit Exceeded on link "http://www.doublerebel.com/xda/eclairhero.user.conf"
I know that It is not your link, but just letting you know. Judging by the message I think it will clear up after the new year.
Good luck on the Blackstone port, your Topaz brothers are watching.

Does anyone knows if its possible to use files from both 2.1 and 2.0? That way it would be easier to port!

We could try to extract all the files and then compare it with the 2.0 release to see what were the changes

Really appreciate your efforts, people behind this project are true dreamers, the day is not very far when we all see a fully developed OS is ready to use.
Best of Luck for all the efforts.

this is the real deal if it work. i will test and report back.

thanks so much bro. I will put all the files in a zip file, upload it and post it with Flan name.
Yes, it's unstable. We will work on this here to make it work.

Hi, I have seen lots of android projects knocking around now, how far are we from and actual working rom so winmo can be ditched altogether?, clearly the rom would have to be reflashable bk to winmo though.

It's almost functionalling 100%. But to make calls etc we need to active the radio. Nobody hasn't tried that yet. We first need to map de back to menu key. Then we can do the other stuff.

You have to try several times. It does not boot like directly. You have to try a couple of times.
haret version and ROM
For what I've seen the haret 0.5.1 is the latest available there, and has exactly the same size as the one in the cab. Does it make a difference renaming the executable? Also you would need to delete the old one in order to rename.
I think it's worth saying that the earlier version of dutty's ROM doesn't load at all. I would presume that this image only load in the cited ROM?
I got [Apr 29] Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid v2 5.2.19716/5.2.19700 ROM
I'll try this and report does it work

No. Bfore this one I had the 16 April rom. And it booted sometimes. 0.5.1 is the official version. But there are also 2 new beta's. I worked with the beta's. But with dutty's Diamond rom. No new haret is needed.

Linux kernel on i780.

I was able to partialy boot Linux kernel on Samsung i780. It wouldn't be possible without help from tmzt. You can find him, and other helpful people on #htc-linux IRC channel on freenode network.
Here are files (kernel, kernel config, default.txt) http://netbsd.pl/~lama/i780/

How have i to use these files (.config, linux+default ecc)?
And what means "partially boot"?The i780 doesn t start?
Partially boot means the video is corrupt and the kernel panics because it can't find the root filesystem, the sd card is not implemented yet and ll4m4 did not use an initramfs.
This kernel is not specific to i780, it's just the first step in linux/android on i780.
Nice!
Now that's cool!! I'll be watching...
isn't the i780 hardware similar to the omnia?
It s a start point, but now we only know the i780 can run haret, we don t have a specific zImage or a specific default.txt...
I think we can modify the "omnia's linux" to get it working on i780.I tried to run those files without any modification but the phone vibrates a lot during boot and there is also a screen issue.

Looking forward to test this !!!
Keep the good work
I've manage to make some "progress"...
rev 1
Build kernel based on linux-2.6.29-rc4 sources with arm-2008q3 cross-compiler (config attached )
+fixed res problems, keys reacting (not mapped right), kernel is chill-out
-no connection with device
Cross-compiled busybox-1.13.2 and made initfs (I'm not sure is it working)
It's not big step but step at all
UPDATE 14.02
rev 2
+fixed key mapping, most letters are correct
+kernel is more stable, compressed and it don't spill errors,
+you can actually do something besides writing, there is busybox but don't have all symlinks. all commands are available by "busybox command" // usage example "busybox touch new_file"
- initrd still sucks a lot, it was created in 5min for sake of kernel. but this is just first day of develop...
Besides this I'm planning to move news and files to MelPlace2 website...
UPDATE 24.02
rev 3
+further key fixes
Vol up/down = up/down arrows
Green/red keys = page up/down (usefull to scroll console SHIFT+PGUP)
Rest of keys = explore
+framebuffer corrected - no cut letters near margins
+initrd with little kick, it show that working on this device can be enjoyable
+many devices appear in dmesg...
but
-initrd is still not enough - working on MMC and Ethernet
-randomly kernel boots with white area on right part of screen - reset your device as fast as possible or it will leave strange mark on screen for few minutes, even in WM (!!)
Please test latest revision and send some constructive feedback
I've created kernel git repository on GitHub HERE.
So if you want to help check it out (do not trash this thread with messages about git- it's separately thing).
I've just started (1 patch) so everybody should know what is going on.

Great work man!!!
I just baught my i780 couple of weeks ago. My original plan was, to buy an Android phone. But there was just the HTC Dream available and its price was doubled - compared to the i780.
Now I am glad to hear, that you are working on getting Linux running. I am a Linuxer since 1997. I will try the kernel.
If I can help somehow, let me know.

Right now I'm in need of good initrd. If You willing to help You can try to make something.
I'll brake work on this weekend due to my birthday (social life) but I'm gonna resume kernel dev in monday. Could be useful to have good initrd with busybox and rootfs.
Ok, is there a ready-to-use toolchain I can use?

So uhm are there any real differences? Or am I just plain stupid and miss them. 5.2 is good enough for everyday use as well....
Note: this is not meant to be rude or anything. It's allways good to see more devs
Man, it's nice to see new faces, but you're not bringing anything new to the table, just a "rehash" of someone's ROM.
Like someone once wrote, proficiency with winzip doesn't make you a dev, and it's sad to see ppl just playing around with winzip, adding a few apks, changing a few lines and posting "new stuff".
I wanted to look the other way, just like I did with the other new "chefs", but hey, guy, you even had the very good idea to add a donate link to your sig., not even reaching 10 posts!
Unless you bring something new, I don't think it's a good idea to post, since it's just spam.
That might come in handy for you: "innovation, not imitation"
I didn't say it is brand new stuff. As I mentioned in the first post, it's based on Vanillain ROM. If you try my version and the original version you'll definately see a difference in both speed and stability.
Really, I don't think this is as useless as you might consider it. Maybe I'm not the only 'vanilla android' fan around here looking for a stable release.
What's with the attitude people... He posted a ROM he thinks is good and he wants to share his work, even if it's not *NEW*...
Download or don't download but give him a break... let people try and feedback, maybe you'll find he didn't just "zip" the ROM...
RaduG thanks for your work and share. I'm into Sense UI so I won't be trying this but again, thanks for sharing!
Ok so here it goes.
Just did a restart after setup and it is fast but switching between screens i a bit slow (will give it some more time). The launcher has only 3 screens "helix" I think you could use a different one.
Oh and the 3G watchdog could be an option. It is useful but i bet not all people would like it.
At the and of the day i think this is a great ROM. Stable and ready to be used as an everyday ROM
Thanks for your feedback.
I've tested different launchers available and the HelixLauncher included in this ROM is the most stable in my oppinion. I will wait for more feedback and if you users like it I will take the apps you don't like out.

It's not a matter of software being new, but seriously, just how many rehashes of base roms shared by other devs were posted?
How many "chefs" DID compile their own custom overlay of aosp?
In fact, nprussel was using mine for quite some time, but didn't react since he really has contributed a lot in these forums; in fact, I'd congratulate him.
Apart from some additional apks, I don't see anything new in here (same old bugs, "features" of other roms based on the leaks)
The one thing that really ticked me off, is the "audacious" donate link for what is, let's face it, a rip atm.
I've taken it off since you first posted. You're somehow right, but i really don't think this is useless. I'm 100% sure this is the most stable Android 2.1 you can download on the forum ATM. Since it is an improvement and i've given credits to the source, i don't think there is a real issue.
Still waiting for feedback.
Could not get it to work, did a full wipe, then flashed.
Then it boots and every single thing that starts crashes: 'sorry ... setup stopped unexpectedly'
I have the latest radio.
Managed to mount my sdcard between all the error screens luckily, so I'll put another ROM onto my phone in 5 minutes.
Strange, a few users tested and everything worked perfect. Please try a full wipe after install and post results. Thanks.
Going to check it.
This is my third rom, so I should now more or less how to install it, but what do you mean with wipe after install? My actions, in order:
put zip on sd card
boot in recovery
wipe whatever I can wipe (system and cache, I do not have an ext partition so no point wiping that)
flash
boot
so which step then?

Compared it to aHero?
Any real differences from aHero?
Yep, i've ran aHero, great build too! But this is more stable and works better with Live Wallpapers.

UPDATED 2/1/2011 [ROM] [Sense 2.2.1 Froyo] ChocolateFroyo v1.0-rel2 - Go Sense

THIS ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED ANYMORE FOR AN UNDETERMINED PERIOD OF TIME.
This is a 2.2 Sense ROM. Unfortunately, it still has two bugs, but even so it is usable, stable and fast.
ATTENTION! For those who already have 1.0-rel1 flashed, make sure you backup your data because flashing the ROM will wipe data even if you don't do it from recovery.
Note: There will be no other update until the Camera is fixed. Also, don't expect any updates in the next 1-2 weeks.
See post #2 for changelog and critical information.

What does not work:
- Camera
- Bluetooth audio WITH SOME DEVICES
Just so you know, I'm working hard to fix those issues, so don't panic, this will be updated soon. You might help me find other bugs if you test it. I can guarantee that if you don't need the camera, this ROM can work as an everyday ROM just fine.
What works:
- flash 10
- EXT-A2SD
- Calls, SMS, MMS
- Internet 2G/3G
- WiFi
- GPS/AGPS
- OpenGL
- lights
- accelerometer, sensors
- wired/wireless tethering
... everything else
+ Teeter - I've packed it so you can have a bit of fun?
Instructions:
Flash it and make a cup of coffee because the first boot takes AGES. Don't panic, it will eventually start ).
The custom kernel included is compiled from Erasmux's FlyKernel 12a. I've just enabled my dual-governor configuration and made the changes required by that. Nothing much, so credits to him.
Credits also go to the CDMA Hero devs which made this in the first place.
ChocolateFroyo 1.0-rel2(multiupload)
MD5: d08fb202c3bde7fd5bfb4751bd961fed
READ!!!
1.0-rel2
- fixed lights
- cleaned system - boots faster, runs smoother
- adjusted dalvik heapsize
- added custom kernel with dual-governor configuration(read below for more info)
1.0-rel1
Initial release
About the Dual-Governor configuration:
The default settings are: 352/691 ondemand screenon, 176/352 conservative screen off. This way the battery is conserved while the performance is at its best when you need it. If your phone can't run @691MHz, all you have to do is download the attached file, unzip it, and edit it as following:
echo 691200 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
Click to collapse
This line tells the kernel what's the max frequency when the screen is on. Here you can edit with one of the following values:
518400
576000
614400
633600
652800
672000
691200
Click to collapse
After you edit it accordingly, save it and push the file to /system/etc/init.d:
adb remount
adb push 90governor /system/etc/init.d
adb reboot
Click to collapse
Now you're good to go!
F**k yeah!
Please man, try to fix the camera
That's what I'm doing, don't panic.
No problem m8 , I won't
Could you guys post linpack and neocore results?
Does the old style Apps2SD work in this (the one with an EXT partition)?
No, it does not, even though I've included it.
What a pity Is there a way to fix it?
Go for it RaduG!
Running CE 2.0 for ages!
Thanks.
you're a good guy Radu, I'm so happy to see you back to work on the hero
This will be a lot of fun!

BT audio works on Sengle, if that helps you somehow.
About the camera I really have no ideas, to solve it on ASOP/CM they needed to backport the camera interface from eclair - something you can't do on Sense cause you don't have sources. This is what made me give up.
I really hope you can get this working, because I think no one else is working on these issues.
Good luck.
Thanks for the A2DP tip
As for the camera, I've got to the point where the image is clear, but it does not refresh(although it doesn't behave like that with the uploaded version). So I'm pretty confident that with a bit of work I will fix it eventually.
I hope you don't mind that I'm using your kernel.

Is there a difference between this rom and these: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838730
I guess yes , but what makes this rom different?
Is this ROM Legend port?
Aw, crap. I just posted how stable and good (perfect) Floyo 1.2.0 was and now you went and released yours, lol.
Back-up and here I come.
I'm going to backup to my sd card and save it and start fresh with a new card. Hopefully that way I can restore quicker and without any hicups.
Thanks RaduG
@GZFan
I don't know how that ROM works, but from the description I can tell you that the GPS is not working there. Otherwise I have no idea, as I haven't tried it.
@tomekk_nt
It's an Aria/Legend/Hero hybrid.
Anyone can port sense hd from desire hd or it is impossible?

RaduG is building it, the man behind vanillaEclair 4 (still imho the most flawless and responsive rom for the hero, old though it may be), vanillaEclair 5 (newer sourcecode than ve4, better than the other roms based on those same sources, not quite as good as ve4 though on my particular phone), and chocolateEclair 2 (a wonderful 2.1 sense rom that many feel is best of breed on the hero). He knows how to assemble and mess with the code in hero android roms exceptionally well and has a longer success rate with single-handed rom creation on the gsm hero than anyone else that I'm aware of.
This is all just my personal opinion and experience; I don't actually know the guy (hey Radu ;-)
Aside from that, literal differences are that he's building it himself based on some cdma stuff so will be undoubtedly bringing in different sources, and probably difference bits of sense executable stuff, to try and get things like camera working. Oh yea, and as noted he's actually working on this rom actively where the rom you linked to was great but is now abandoned due to a feature implementation stalemate and work on other time-consuming exciting projects by the same developer.

[DISCONTINUED][NAND][RAM] darkstone SuperNAND FroYo RC1 [kernel: Hastarin Custom]

Discontinued as of 21/12/2011. Will be working on SD card builds IN MY SPARE TIME from now on instead.
I'm back at university, I don't have free time like a lot of the other chefs here do.
THIS IS A HIGHLY EXPERIMENTAL ROM, I CAN'T GUARANTEE THIS WILL BE COMPLETELY STABLE. DO NOT USE THIS IF YOU NEED 100% STABILITY.
THIS IS NOT A SENSE ROM. DO NOT ASK FOR ONE.
Continuation of this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870518
Original credits are in this thread
darkstone's SuperNAND Froyo NAND ROM (RC1) for HTC HD2
===========================
Based on AdamG's Oxygen v1.2 ROM for the HTC Desire.
This is a continuation of the SD Card RAM build that I was making for earlier SuperRam builds.
Information:
This build uses RMNET.
I have implemented my own version of APPS to SD. You can use this if desired.
You must make two folders on the root of your SD Card. One must be named .android_secure and the other should be named app.
Look at post #2 down this thread for more information on how to use this.
Google maps and wifi tether is missing at the moment since this is a beta.
Provided seperately in post #2
Robot voice issue may occur when in a call. If this happens, during the call press the LOUDSPEAKER button then END THE CALL. Do this exactly and every call after will no longer have this issue.
Use Multi Mount SD Card from market to transfer files using USB if using APPS to SD.
To make changes to the build permenantly, you need to push / delete / rename / etc the files that are supposed to go in:
/system/lib or /system/app or /system/framework
to
/ramfiles/lib or /ramfiles/app or /ramfiles/framework
Other folders in /system work as normal and can be modified permenantly.

1. Installation
===============
MAGLDR 1.10 or newer is required on the device.
Before starting the installation process, enter "USB Flasher" mode on the device by using the Volume rocker switch to select items and the green "Call" button as the Enter key.
3. Post installation notes
==============
You can change the kernel to a newer/custom version by doing the following:
Connect via USB to your HD2 while Android is running.
Spawn an ADB shell
Do the following commands as superuser:
mkdir /tmp/boot
mount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock0 -o rw,noatime,nodiratime /tmp/boot
After that, you can replace the zImage that's located in /tmp/boot
When you're done, you have to unmount the boot partition, like so:
umount /tmp/boot
Restart your device to use the new kernel.

I've made a custom method to store Apps to SD Card without the need for data.img or an EXT partition on your SD card.
Your apps will be moved to /SDCARD/app
Here's how to move your apps:
Download Gscript from market or from HERE and install then open the app.
^Add a new script^ ^Fill the blank spaces with exactly what you see here^ ^Run the script everytime you want to move your apps to the SD Card^
Note: this is not reversable yet.
Note: this is still an experimental feature, however beta tests have indicated that this method is fine!

If you have issues with battery usage being high in standby, then uncheck "Use wireless networks" in the Location and security settings menu:

For Google Maps, install it from market.
For wifi tether, install this: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list (Version 2.0.6)
