*OUTDATED* Roll up thread. START HERE (With how to for partitioning) - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Android Development

THIS IS NOW OUTDATED!!
It uses the old sqsh method WITH a rootfs. So if you're wanting to use the NoMoRootfs method, this won't work. Please use the already complete builds in the Kaiser/Vogue threads as they are working the best at this moment.
I hope to update this when I have some free time. Will include a how to for NAND also.
What's What:
zImage
Linux kernel which initializes hardware
initrd.gz
Initial ramdisk. Usually, startup scripts, device drivers (modules) and related files (e.g. Bluetooth firmware), as well as some basic system tools (shell etc.). This has grown and split into the rootfs.img.
rootfs.img
Contains the ril (how our phones communicate with the network) and other necessary files to get the system going.
haret.exe
Bootloader to reboot the device into Android
default.txt/startup.txt
Contains settings for the boot process, and special kernel configuration parameters
system.img/system.sqsh
Contains the Android core, default applications and some more system files and tools.
*.user.conf
Contained in conf folder. Sets compcache/swap parameters.
How it works
When you run Haret, it wipes Windows from memory so it's not running anymore, (although it keeps it on the actual phone storage) then it "reboots" the phone into android. So think of it like this... Windows is on the phone storage and Android is on the SD card. Haret shuts down Windows (keeping it on the phone storage) and then boots up the phone using the SD card in place of the phone storage. When you turn the phone off/reset it will boot back into Windows.
Haret looks at the default.txt/startup.txt for it's bootup parameters, it then loads the zImage which initializes all of the hardware (screen, keyboard, etc.) and initrd which contains the initial startup scripts. The rootfs is then called which creates the data.img and moves the system and data to partitions (if available). It looks in the system.sqsh for a file called ion.build, donut.build, tattoo.build, etc. which tells it what kind of system it is. This also tells it to run the ion.user.conf, donut.user.conf, tattoo.user.conf.
Setup:
Download this package.
If you can't run this then you'll have problems with other builds. If you can run this, things are on the right track.
Format your SD card to Fat32, if not already. Make sure there's NOTHING on your SD card.
Extract the android folder to your SD card.
Rename the default-*.txt file to either default.txt or startup.txt.
-default.txt will make it so you have to tap "Run" when you start haret.
-startup.txt will cause haret.exe to automatically run instead of having to tap Run.
Now when you run haret.exe you should see some scrolling text.
Don't touch anything and let it run.
You should soon be presented with a startup animation and then be ready to setup your new Android phone.
Advanced:
Partitioning SD
Installing Ubuntu (Live CD)
DOWNLOAD UBUNTU
You should now have an .iso image.
DOWNLOAD IMGBURN
Install ImgBurn
Select "Write image file to disc"
Click on the magifying glass/folder next to where it says "Please select a file..." and select the .iso file you just downloaded.
Uncheck Verify (underneath "destination")
Click on the picture on the bottom left to burn.
Once it's burned restart your computer with the disc in the drive.
You should then see the following image:
*If you boot into Windows you'll have to consult your motherboard manual on how to boot from a CD*
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Select your language and then select Try Ubuntu
Installing Ubuntu (USB)(thanks sd73ta)
I haven't tested this but you can make a bootable USB drive with Ubuntu using UNetbootin
1 - download unetbootin
2 - insert a blank usb drive
3 - select ubuntu (the highest numerical) live version and run
4 - when its done reboot your pc
when it first boots look for instructions on how to enter setup usually F2 or Delete
5 - change your startup options so usb is before hdd
6 - save changes
Now it should boot to ubuntu
Partition your SD Card
Follow my vid:
Extract the android folder to the Fat32 Partition
Install Android to Partitions
Run Haret
Pay close attention to the scrolling text.
When you see "Press Voldn to run Android Installer" press the left softkey(the key just right of the green phone button)
It should now be placing the system.sqsh onto the first ext2 partition and creating a new data.img on the second.
To see if this actually worked, when you restart your phone into Windows you should see a folder called "backupsystem" with an installedsystem.sqsh file inside.
Swap/Compcache
*WARNING: Using a swap file/partition can decrease the life of your SD Card*
To use swap/compcache you'll need to edit your *.user.conf file which can be opened using any text editor. It should be easy to follow what everything in the file does, but if you can't figure it out SEARCH FIRST and then ask.
To utilize the swap partition you'll have to change
cc_backingswap_en=0 from 0 to 1
OR
linux_swap_en=0 from 0 to 1
Very Advanced (NAND)
NAND refers to the actual phone storage (where Windows resides). This wipes Windows from your phone and writes Android to the internal storage. It's not completely developed yet, but it's getting really far really fast.
There is already a thread HERE that discusses everything you need to know about running Android from NAND.

Upgrading to different builds
Simple Install(no partitions)
Most new builds will just be a system.sqsh file. If thats the case then you'll need to replace the system.sqsh file with the new one. It's also best to delete the data.img file.
If the new build contains a zImagexx-xx-xx or rootfsxx-xx-xx.img, then you'll need to replace those too. When you replace them, make sure to rename them to zImage and rootfs.img, unless theres a new default.txt where you don't have to rename them. Make sure you READ EVERYTHING the thread says about the build so you don't ask questions that have already been asked.
Advanced Install(partitions)
Almost the same as the Simple install but instead you'll just need to place the new system.sqsh file in the android folder and then pay attention to the scrolling text. You'll want to run the installer (Voldn) and when it asks to upgrade press Voldn. You can backup your data, and I would suggest wiping the data also to prevent any bugs.
Problems & Fixes
If your screen looks like it has random dots and things dont look quite right, open the "default.txt" and change board-htckaiser.panel_type=0 to 1, 2, or 3. This depends on your device and you should try each one to get the best result.
If you close the keyboard and the screen is now stuck in landscape, go to Settings > Sound & Display and uncheck Orientation.
If you just upgraded to a new build and are getting popups about things not responding (force closes) then you probably didn't get rid of the data.img file or wipe the data partition. If you have a blank data file/partition and are still getting errors, then look through the builds thread to see if others are having the same problems and if theres a solution.
If you can't get a data connection to work, go into Settings > Wireless Controls > Mobile Networks > Access Poin Names and if there is something present, select it and make sure all the settings are correct for your carrier according to THIS LIST. If there is nothing there, press the menu key (start button) and select New APN and enter the settings manually.
*More when I can think of them.*

thx for making this loserskater! i found your post through the vogue general section and the file descriptions were exactly what i needed to know.

Hey loserskater! First off great post, I followed your instructions, and unfortunately although linux initiates the boot process it halts giving me the following error: Failed to allocate the storge;
This was using the basic setup I will now try the advance setup with live cd and let you know how it goes..

So far so good, I am looking at the ANDROID animation right now, so quick question since I am running this from an exe from the windows mobile os, is windows mobile still running in the background while I am using the ANDROID part, or does it completely shut down windows and load up the linux os, just wondering.. thanks.
...
Everything works great still can't get the 3G part working but I read somewhere that is because the tilt uses a different MHz than t-mobiles 3G, dunno if I can get it to work or not.. any ideas?
-b3ck

So what androids can I use with my HTC Tilt? yours works great, can I use just any of the ones I find on the 2 other forums you liked to in your post?
-b3ck

Great (and much needed) thread, loserskater - THANKS.
I have simple question: just how is the correct *.user.conf file selected? Is there a selection mechanism in system.img, or is there some other mechanism?
Thanks again for the partitioning walkthrough. And Ubuntu 9.10 is pretty darn nice, too!

Look in Kaiser Rom development or the Vogue General forum for builds. Follow my upgrading procedure and you should be OK. If you're having problems with that build look through the thread and see if others are using different zImages, rootfs.img's, etc.

Look in the first post under How it works. (just added)
Yes Ubuntu is a very user friendly and popular version of linux. It was my primary OS for awhile and didn't have any problems with it. The best part is if you mess something up, you can just reinstall the OS and start over.

I use unetbootin instead of a live cd. this creates a live usb drive.
Now it should boot to ubuntu
hope this helps. I havent done this in a while so if I missed something let me know and I'll fix it

Thanks for your help, very much appreciated!

Your the man!!!!!!!!
Thank you sir for this great tutorial!!!! it was the diff between me using android and me wanting to never try it again.

Thanks for great instructions!
I don't know what I did wrong, but the "Voldn" installer did not copy my system.img to the first partition. Only after I manually copied the content I was able to boot.
Question: how big the first partition should be? The system.img is only 74Mb, but all the related to the subject demos suggest to create a 256Mb ext2. Is not it a waste of space on a 2Gb sdcard?

You can use two 128 MB partitions to save space. You just don't want to get too small or you'll start having issues

I tried to install Android on my htc touch and it comes up with "Launch a script file. Default path is the same where the executable lives." What do I need to move and where to get it to work? Thanks

Thanks for the answer.
I made 128Mb and 269Mb. After I reboot my Tilt I found the Home and the Green Call button do not work anymore! And some other system settings were changed as well.
I had to run the instaler for three times before I finally got the system working.

This is great!
Could someone alternately host the Starting_Point file please? I have tried to download it multiple times and it doesn't complete ever.

Does anyone else have data access issues? I am unable to get any data with this build

[How-To] properly install Android

It is not quite self-explaining how to install Android on our Windows Mobile devices. Therefore I took some time and wrote down all the steps for people who are new to "Android".
More testers -> more experience -> more knowledge -> faster/better development.
I hope this way the forum is kept clean(er) from all kinds of questioned that have already been answered many times.
ReadMe Includes:
- Partitioning
- Device preparations
- Boot loader
- Install steps
- Fixes
- Links
- more...
If you are a developer (you create your own package) feel free to use my ReadMe for your packages (update regularly though).
to download the ReadMe click the [Android Repository] button in my signature.
It goes to a rapidshare page with 3 files, and when I click on the filename Android_README.TXT
or start download, I get the error
The file could not be found. Please check the download link.
ok thanks. i fixed it (rs bug when renaming files ^^)
How would i partition a 1GB SD Card? ie what sizes etc are the last 3 same but the unallocated is just whats left over?
I want to use a spare card rather then the one that came with my HD.

normally just calculate how i wrote in the readme:
whole space -768 (3* 256) and then the other 3 x 256
but in ur case i would make the swap smaller (i think its not even used at all) and the fat32 bigger; for instance:
fat32 - 384 MB
ext2 - 256 MB
ext2 - 256 MB
swap - 128 MB (rest)
To be honest the bit I find most confusing is all the different versions!
i didnt create any partitions on my card, and android works as good as it does on any, mind you i have not updated the files fo0r a month so alot might have changed

i agree...
i've been looking these posts here for a couple of days now and i still don't know how to do it....
especially the DualBoot thing...
is it possible to make a little bigger how-to manual?
or at least explain the versioning and the needed thing a little more?
the readme is about 50 times longer than anything else u will find about installing android anywhere else
the different versions are just like in windows mobile, theres not much to explain, its rather up to ur personal preference. doesnt take as long as flashing a wm rom, so its easy to try out more versions, especially with more sd cards.
dual boot is easy:
1. install the cab
2. open the dual boot program and make all your settings, for example: auto boot android (click on the checkbox/ratio under android logo), check auto boot checkbox and check fast boot (means 3 instead of 10 secs).
3. restart your device, DONT LAUNCH HARET because that will destroy all the dualboot settings. if you restart/shutdown the device normally, the settings will be stored and android will automatically booted at next startup (or whatever you set before)
if you have android autoboot and u want to boot wm, just QUICKLY press the wm LOGO when the dual boot screen appears.
i might include this in the readme soon, just dont have the time right now unfortunally

Thanks for the dualboot help... i'll try that...
the first problem I have encountered yesterday when trying to put Android was SD card formating...
i downloaded the program you said and followed the instructions oh how-to and was not able to do it under Windows 7 with my 16GB SD card... does it even work for Windows 7??? is there another program I can try to do it with???
I have also dualboot on my PC with the Kubuntu being the second OS, but I'm not using it as much as Windows 7... I can try with it if you think it will work.. but first I have to download the 15GB of data from my SD card to my PC, again
I would like to put the Espresso build cause I saw that it has everything working beside the GPRS and camera...
can you tell me what should I download for my Blackstone so it works properly???
thanks alot...

like the readme says: partitioning is only needed for partitined builds, which means that android uses several partitions to store different kinds of data, for - hopefully - more speed. only glossy uses partitions, espresso doesnt.
for glossy, u can also use ubuntu (download parted magic or something similar) to create partitions.
for espresso, u just need to copy the stuff onto ur sdcard.
but thats all in the readme... i dont have time to explain in detail coz i need to study a whole ****in lot at the moment +.+

well, some details about what version you are using would be helpful. however, this is not the right channel to ask this question. i think this question has already been asked several times in other threads. try search function or read the thread for ur version, its probably a version-issue or only for your country/provider

How to install froyo on sd card

So first of all i must say that im a completly noob at the android instalation on kaiser
I search for a noob tutorial but i coudnt fiind can someone post here a tutorial including files thanks
Here is the Guide in Sticky
How to replace Windows Mobile with Android (Guide) by Dukenukemx
scroll down to Installing Applications Onto SD Card using Ext2
This should help. The guide help me greatly, very easy to follow.
Hope this helps.
Its not tricky, I mean even I can do it, come on
I did edit a wiki page on this, but appears to be down, so here goes, from memory.
Backup any data first, just in case, not taking any responsibility for loss of data.
Firstly ensure your SD card if formatting correctly (FAT32), use on Gparted (linux live CD) to do this, (for me, I created two ext 2 partitions as well as I thought this would work best, works for me).
You then need the HaRET application to allow you to run Android. Google "haret.exe"
Extract the files this should create the right directory.
You then need to choose a build, this is personal choice, but I'll post the one I am testing right now. milanche's CyanogenMod 6 Kaiser
Put the installandroid.tar into the folder you created above.
Move to your SD card.
Find and run HeRET.
When screen shows text, tap and hold the center of the screen until you get a menu.
Choose install (ensure the options are set to SD).
Select Install
Once done, select Quit.
This then installs Android and can take a while, just leave it to get on with it.
You should then been booted into Android.
I might have forgotten something, as I am doing this from memory, but it should be fresh since I installed this last night.
Looks good to me, nice guide, don't think you missed anything
Thatnk you Zenity, but I know I couldn't have done this without your help in the begining when I first tried it. I know how it can seem all a bit over whelming.
I know a lot of people say 'search for it' but I did that just to see what I would find, and to be honest, I didn't get anything but that was of any use, so I can sympathis the search doesn't always get you the right results.
I could not remember the direcotry names when I wrote that at work and had to do it in a hurry as the entire office can see my magnified screen so it was a quick brain dump, not as nice as I would have liked to have written it given the time (which I did on the wiki but its down).
Anyway Keeps it fresh in my mind too.
I can only do this when I'm given the right files, I got confused myself when people started talking about different zImages. I tend to go for the builds where everything is bundled into one packing, as some can seem fragmented, ie Fresh Foryo, I don't doubt that it may be a good rom, but its deleivery is complicated (for me ).
Wish I had more time an experience to make my own build, I have done a bit of linix hacking in my time with shell scripts (getting wifi cardds working ona laptop etc), Its all interesting stuff.
thanks guys u helped me alot in the end i will instal android on an ext2 partition
Dear Leona,
The link seems no longer valid, can you tell where to find the latest HaRET application? Besides, how should I format my SD card? by special software? Thanks.
Dave
If you'd have problems with using Gparted Live CD like me... just because it does not mount SD card in adapter... here is what I did to partition the SDHC 4GB card...
I booted with HARET but did not select to install.. it gracefully fails to terminal
command: su
command: fdisk /dev/block/mmcblk0
deleted all current patrition (d)
created new partitions whith calculated size (8192 for 256MB)
changed type of the first and biggest patririon to FAT32 (t => c)
written all the changes to the partition table (w)
Than you should take out the card before rebooting and format FAT32 partition in win to upload all te android boot files, rebot the phone and follow with instalation...
But I must say, now I am using Scooters Cyanogen in NAND and it it far far easier
After I choose run, then a list of Linus commands ran, then it said
:loseup:/dev/block/loops: No such file or directory
Failed
Failed to reach system.img on SD card
By the way, anywhere I can download a complete set of files for running? Thanks.
try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813382&page=31
look for the 4th post...
or this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855733
read a lot before attempting to do anything! use the search tool too, could be of some help.
For SD Partitioning, I remembered this Thread, which might help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619290
Sounds like you are not holding the centre Dpad button (or pressing the centre of the screen) while haret is loading, yes this can be Hit and Miss it winds me up no end.
If you have access to a Linux machine (or boot a Live CD), as well as being useful for SD partitioning it also maybe used to try out Atools (you'll need to install python and python-tk (via the package manager)) as this will get you the right Kernels, images and configure your default.txt file for you, though I haven't managed to get the build script bit working yet, but that is down to my lack of understanding the instructions

Now in front of the CD icon it will be the game you backed-up, not the game of which you inserted the disk.
Just run the game and ENJOY
NOTE: Those who get unknwown usb connected try 5-10 times. if the error continues.Format your internal storage and change your android build to 29.7.10 and and if it still doesnt work flash a new rom ( a fast one) ( dont know why but it worked for me) .
If you get the black screen then come back to XMB while running backup make sure you are removing your pen drive while making a backup. If it still doesnt work you can use the PSfreedom provided by Denial84 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=E2J6E55H

Hi arjunking,
Firstly, Thanks!
I suspect a lot of people might be still struggling with this, like I am.
The first issue I have is this:
Step 1 "Extract Psfreedom to root of your internal storage. Replace module and zimage file"
I'm running XDANDROID.2.2.AOSP.29.7.10.RC2.1. Looking at the 'andboot' folder (where I run xdandroid from) the module file has a different name that the module file in the psfreedom package. Therefore, 'replace the module file' doesn't occur.
Does this indicate I'm using the wrong xdandroid version? Will it be a problem?
First of all, thanks for this guide, i answers some questions that most of us have, but not some of the other,
What build of xdandroid is reccomended?

Just put both files in internal storage, it works for me
thanks.
I have htc diam500.
I didn't use those crappy "andboot" folders.
I did EVERYTHING from the root. I also tried like 3 different versions of the psfreedom.ko file(one with bmdv* support) and some other one.
So I think it comes down to having the right psfreedom file and LUCK.
Also once you install the emulator(the thing you do after installing Xandroid) if you get a # and blank line than you've done it right. After that just plug it up to your ps3 when it's completly off.

this is so annoying, anyway, im sure i will work something out.

OK, I'm almost there.
I should've tried it before I posted because apparently it doesn't matter if the modules file in the psfreedom package has a different name to the one in the xdandroid folder. I just deleted the original 'modules-2.6.27.46-01130-g0ac6681.tar' and copied over the one from the psfreedom package 'modules-2.6.27.46-01162-g741ab49-dirty.tar'
I've got to the point of starting my first backup.
This brings me to my next question:
1. When using the backup manager there is no option to backup to an external hard disk.
So how do I either:
a) backup to external hdd, or
b) move my backups from the internal hdd to an external hdd when they're done?
Update: OK, now that I've got a Fat32 formatted external hdd connected the 'backup manager' prompts me to backup to external hard disk

ok, so i did that right, what build of android are you using?
ummm I'm not sure on that. You would prob. have to google that. or just save it to your internal drive on the ps3 and when it's done see if they would let you do it is the only way I know.

XDANDROID.2.2.AOSP.29.7.10.RC2.1
Also, if you run xdandroid from a location other than the root of internal storage, you need to make a corresponding change to step 6. In my case:
"cd /sdcard" becomes "cd /sdcard/andboot"
thanks for this...... working 100% with diam100 and ps3 with 3.41 firmware....
i have some problem with my diamond.
Yesterday the exploit didn't work for all day, this morning worked, and now doesn'work again.I hope in a new release.

just download the android build 29.7.10 and extract it into root of your internal storage. not in any folder.
delete the module already present there and extract the new one from the psfreedom file.
Is there any way to run a script automatically on terminal start up that would basically run the 3 commands
su
cd sdcard
insmod psfreedom.ko
???
just being lazy really..!!LOL
edit.....
gscript lite works great and can place a shortcut on my desktop for running the script!!!
HaRET freezes after the vibrate.
Hello everyone,
I'm facing a problem that sometimes goes away. When i start HaRET, it freezes after it vibrates. What could be the problem? I'm using a HTC Touch Pro(not a diamond)
I Hope that someone has a solution for this problem.
that maybe cause of the android you are using. try reinstalling android using a new or different build. try the one in first post.

Formatted a 128mb micro sd card(i know it needs to be more for datastore), copied the files to the root of the card and run it. It looked like it was fixed, but it frozen after doing some things to load up android.
you need atleast 300mb of space for proper functioning of android.
it will kinda extract the sy.ext2 file which is of 90 mb so it takes all your space.

[BUILD] [GingerBread] CM7 from Neopeek!! **Dev Preview** ClockworkMod!

Hey all,
Wanted to post CM7 here for everyone to enjoy.
Neopeek has been working hard to get this build up and running, he's been doing great work!
Neopeek's Original Post - if you wish to see Neopeek's original post about the CM7 topic.
Also, since now I am using his new ClockWordMod method - CWM Recovery thread
As is stated in the title, this is mainly for devs/testers. Lots of things are broken, and there will be frequent updates.
There are two methods to using this build:
1) ClockWorkMod (requires 3 separate ext2 partitions)
2) Loop'd system.ext2 image (like XDAndroid) [In progress]
The benefit of #1 is a dedicated system/data partition, and *partial* USB mass storage support.
The benefit of #2 is, it's easier .
I still have to work to get #2 up, but I wanted to post #1 ASAP. Lots of work to flesh out the post to, be patient!
I've been holding off on releasing this CWM version of CM7, because I'm still having a lot of bugs with it. Still needs quite a bit of work, but it's getting late for me tonight - I am going to release it, let me know if you guys make improvements, I'd love to incorporate them!
Main issues seem to be related to my durn CDMA device. Need to break into some logs to see what's goin on, it may be a little while! I think GSM folk will be fine. Let me know!

How-to
Method #1 (ClockWorkMod)
****WARNING****
If you setup dedicated partitions using this method, normal XDAndroid builds will think that you want to use dedicated partitions. I had to modify the init to get it to work correctly (I basically broke the partition detection in the init). It's not pretty, but I don't know of a better way to resolve that issue - let me know what ideas you guys have!
Setup:
You will need to create three (3) ext2 partitions on your SD card. This is not extremely simple, but by no means impossible .
If you're using Windows, I like the Mini Partition Tool. If you're in Linux, I usually use gparted.
This takes a little bit of planning - but in total, I would say you need a minimum of 450mb of space for all three ext2 partitions. So work out how much free space is left (if you want a bigger data partiton, or system partition account for it!) and make that the first partition - FAT32. Make sure all the partitions are "primary", not "logical"! See the partition layout below:
1 - FAT32 Primary (remainder of card)
2 - ext2 Primary (at least 150mb, system partition)
3 - ext2 Primary (at least 250mb, data partition - I wouldn't go over 1gb here)
4 - ext2 Primary (at least 50mb, cache partition)
Don't worry about putting anything in these ext2 partitions, everything is populated by Android and CWM. The FAT32 partition is used to kick off Android, while system, data and cache are all ext2 partitions. Reason for this is, hopefully if things go haywire we can blast out cache, not data . Also, it should be easier to update using this method than previously.
Extract the file. Look at the folder it created (npkboot). Copy the entire npkboot folder to the root of your SD (for now this is required - the init assumes there's a /sdcard/npkboot/tmp folder). There will also be an update.zip, in this case update-cm-7.0.0-neopeek.zip. Put this at the root of your SD card (this makes finding it in the menu much easier!)
Copy the appropriate startup.txt from the STARTUPS folder.
Find haret.exe in th npkboot folder. Run it, and watch the boot process carefully! It will ask you to hold the vol down button to enter recovery, and you have 10 seconds to do so.
Assuming you manage to do this correctly (I had some trouble at first ) you should see an icon like a hat. Wait for the menu.
Buttons:
End key - back (back button seems to do this as well...)
Send key - enter
Vol up - up
Vol down - down (menu button seems to do this as well...)
If this is the first install, go to "install zip from sdcard". Then "choose zip from sdcard" This will install the system image to the system partition from the update.zip.
If you need to wipe the data partition, you can do that under "mounts and storage". You shouldn't need to do this unless you're going from gb -> froyo or visa-versa. Froyo -> froyo should 'just work', as always YMMV.
There are A LOT of options in replimenu. The only ones I have used are install, format /data, /system or /cache and Reboot. According to Neopeek, there are several things that should not be used:
Neopeek said:
* Don't use "factory wipe" in CWM (you have been warned )
* Don't use "format sdcard" unless you know what you do (you have been warned )
* Don't use "partition sdcard" unless you know what you do (you have been warned )
Click to collapse
Once you've installed Android, go back to the main menu and "reboot system now" There are some bugs, for example "reboot recovery" and "power off" all just reboot the phone to WinMo.
Boot haret again, but this time don't hold the vol down to enter recovery - boot as normal!
#2: Much simpler method, similar to XDAndroid builds.
Extract the file to your desktop. Go into the CM7 folder, look for the STARTUPS folder - grab the appropriate startup.txt, move it to where haret.exe is.
Copy everything in the CM7 folder to the root of your SD card - if you want to run it from a folder, create a rel_path=CM7 statement in your startup.txt after the set cmdline (if you want a different folder, change the CM7.)
Grab the ts-calibration file attached to this post (for RHOD), or go to this post for a list of ts-calib's. You can also create your own on boot, but may have to revert to an older kernel to do so.
Run haret.exe!
****Not Working****
CDMA seems broken - still! I did some testing with hyc's RIL and it's still busted, so there's something in the system image messing with it - Airplane mode was checked, and I could not uncheck it.
In addition, phone.apk seems like a forceclosefest. Neopeek did point this out in his original thread...
Mobile data - broken (Fixed soon)
Wifi - broken (Fixed soon)
System needs optimization for RHOD - was originally build with DIAM in mind - so it's a little slow.
Failed wakes seem pretty bad - sometimes it is quite difficult to wake the phone.
Boot animation seems to be not present - I'm looking into fixing it, probably graphics libs if anything that's broke it.
Dev Content
This new method should be great for anyone who wants to make their own updates - you can easily peek into the system image and make changes at will, then just install the new system image! You can even rolll updates instead of an entire system image if you wish.
The script language in ClockWorkMod is called "Edify", see this thread to learn about the syntax. This is related to the META-INF folder you see in the update zip.
There's a few differences in the rootfs', the main being the init. There's also some additional files it looks like neopeek added for Recovery specifically.
This is amazing work. Props to all involved.
Does anyone have any feedback on this build?

Long story short, you need a ext2 partition and a fat32 partition - ext2 needs to be between 400-600mb, fat32 can just take the remainder of the card's space.

Is there a reason for the 600mb upper limit? If I use 1 gb, will it cause problems or will it not use it and just waste card space?

You can make it as big as you want I guess... I'm not sure how neopeek sets up the data partition to be honest, I'd have to ask him.
Edit - in lieu of the post below, I adjusted the first post to say it needs to be at least 400mb .

Is easy just use mini tool partition wizard, delete the main partition on the sd-card
and do two,one fat32 primary and one ext2 primary, then extract the archive and put the proper startups in npkinstall and in root
from the phone run install.exe
and after the reboot use haret.exe
I wonder if CDMA data is working with this...that is my biggest issue with GB right now...

Another noob question, but the rootfs, kernels, oc, etc from the xdandroid builds will work the same on these?

it's necessary create a swap partition?
What works in this build?

The rootfs is more or less collapsed in these.
Kernels are straight from XDAndroid repo.

Swap is not necessary.
Most things that work in XDAndroid work in here. Lots of other things are broken here tho .
Okay, downloaded and installed without problems.
First impressions:
Absolutely great build in terms of response!
No delays in menus, etc.
Also, this looks like the first build that may have little or no clock delay, so no need for clocksync !!! (to be confirmed since I did not use it very long, die to issues below)
However...
1) No WIFI
2) No Mobile data (2G/3G)
3) camera not working (could be just blackstone)
- maybe other issues, decided to wait for more feedback before continuing, without market access there's little point...
Device: Blackstone
Kernel: extensive testing with provided one (1276), later switched to 1277, to fix audiostuttering, no wifi or mobile data in either...
As a reference, used many NeoPeek / XDAndroid builds, generally got WIFI/Mobile data working until now...
Love to hear if someone else (blackstone?) got WIFI/2G/3G working...
Oh, well, as I understood, this was an early "developer" release, still plenty of room for improvements!
Cheers,
Robbert

2. Format Storage Card using SD Formatter.
3. Copy the beta files and o2b3update.tar.gz(official) to My Storage.
3. Bootup Ubuntu, and copy o2b3update.tar.gz and ext4.tar.gz to desktop.
4. Download gParted and run it, go to Places -> unmount My Storage.
5. Start gParted, top right corner switch to My Storage (May have different label).
6. Create a new EXT 4 Partition, label as 'android', set as Primary Partition. (around 1 - 2GB will be good)
7. Then you will see 2 external drive on Ubuntu desktop.
8. Go to Places -> Mount both of them.
9. Then start Terminal from Applications and do all the commands below step by step.
Type in cd/ Desktop
Insert your password, then click Enter.
It will appears as (username) - desktop: ~/Desktop
Then, type in ''sudo tar zxvf ext4.tar.gz -C /media/android''
A list of files will be shown and copy over to the android partition.
Wait for the process to complete and type in below after return to ''(username) - desktop: ~/Desktop
''sudo tar zxvf o2b3update.tar.gz -C /media/android"
Last step, change the startup.txt found on another My Storage partition, rename the following line:
" Set CMDLINE "rootdelay=2 root= /dev/mmcblk0p6 init=/init" to the partition number that you created, eg. mmcblk0p2.*
You should be able to bootup Android after that.
*Some device may get different number, you can look for the Android partition number through booting up the device without changing anything in startup.txt, then at this screen, check the one which has the actual partition from what you created, below is an example from jerrytech2468.blogspot.com:

Tick on show in 12/24 hours system manually
METHOD 2 BY Quato7906, MoDaCo
1.Put the time Region in Windows Mobile to London GMT;
2.Set your time in Windows ;
3.Run Android and set your time, you will notice thet time works correctly then
Also I notice that after doing this GTalk detects correct time settings and logs in,and therefore MARKET Also works always, downloads & installs apps!!!.

LATEST NEWS & UPDATES
2011-04-18
Froyo beta1. It's SD card installer (1024mb only). It includes latest kernel, modules, default filesystem is ext4, new keymapping. Download it here (it will wipe Your current installation and/or whole SD card content). As always it doesn't contain 2D/3D libraries from Samsung (You have to find them and put it before first boot to My Storage as o2b3update.tar.gz).
Froyo beta1 working things are:
Phone
WiFi
GPS
Data connections (GPRS)
Sensors (not everything is working: accelerometer can work, but compass not)
2D/3D (Samsung not allowed to us to distribute the 2D/3D library binaries, so they are not included in the image).
MP4/3GP movie play (camera hardware button doesn't work yet)
Camera in photo (up to 5MP) and movie recording mode (it's still not 480p, but works)
Note: There is still error, when within telephone conversation in approx.30 seconds the LCD blanks but also the sound muted - UNTIL NOT SOLVE, please use the Call Light or KeepScreen application from Market!!!
Note2: If You have problems with registering via Google use following workaround: open Youtube app and login there with google account.
Note3: Changed button mapping: Cube -> Menu, Lock -> Back, Back key -> Home, Hang-up -> Sleep/Hang-up/Wake, Camera -> not used.
Note4: Updates have now prefix o2b3update.{tar.gz|sh}.
Thanks, I will test today

The Froyo is awesome and I think the battery consumption has reduced and better now.
Is adobe flash works?
Any screenshot guys?

Works like a charm.
Just re-partitioning of my SD-Card was a bit tricky: The old Eclair-Beta-Partition was slightly smaller than the new one for Froyo. So the installation (haret within the o2beta-directory) always claimed that the SD-Card is too small (in fact mine is 2 GB). So I had to delete the old partitions and re-format it within the configuration-menu of WinMo.
If s.o. does not have a card-reader/adaptor for the microSD - just use this software linked in this post.
hey can someone upload the 3D drivers to mediafire. im having problem download it from filesonic
Looking forward to testing out FROYO. Taking a while to download as I guess a lot of people have been eagerley awaiting it!
Could someone please upload a screen shot?

Instead of asking ppl to post the screenshot, why not you just try it out on your phone?
I want to but I can't download. Download link not responding.

If you want to try out stable Android that can be used on daily basis, for
**Android Eclair (2.1) on Omnia 2, see my previous thread, follow and download the links under UNOFFICIAL RELEASE.
**Android Froyo (2.2) on Omnia 2, follow my guides on this thread, the overall impression is smoother and better than the previous release.
If you follow every step by step, you should be able to run Android on your Omnia 2.
Thank you!
Followed your instructions and..... Froyo lives!
Be sure to stress enough that new 2D/3D drivers are needed in order for Froyo to work properly. Only thing, Froyo keep saying that the SD card is damaged, when, of course, is working properly. Someone else with the same issue?

For those who have problems with FileSonic, this is the 2D/3D files which i upload personally in .7z format.
You'll have to extract it out from .7z format first before you put into My Storage.
I've done what you said step by step but when android booted completely, in the welcome screen every time i clicked on android there is no response and suddenly the screen went black, I've tried to turn it on with keys but no response. What Should I DO?
Thanks
It works! Great work!
i have same problem as tiberiusmusicus. SD card is 'damaged'. however i can access it in winmo. it might be because the directory for the sd card is /mnt/sdcard and not /sdcard. im not sure....any solution? cant take photos because camera is not reading sdcard.
