[COMP]what's so special? - Desire General

i have got an eye for this device in months but then consideret "what if it's locked or has a perfect spl???" do any of you think this will happen?
i have also been looking at the specs of Nexus versus Bravo
Nexus: http://www.google.com/phone/static/en_US-nexusone_tech_specs.html
Bravo: http://www.htc.com/www/product/desire/specification.html
and i can't find big difference
is the thing wich turns of the sound of an incomming call software based?
does the desire have more sensors and addons than Nexus which is not software based? (and beside the FM radio)
will htc actually be sloppier than google with the updates and kernel releases?
will it be easier to work with the nexus kernel than the htc as there probably will be more updates?
and last but not least why should i pick a Bravo instead of a Nexus? (beside HTC Sense)
thank you in advance to bear over with my indecision!!

The Google Nexus isn't sold here?!
And Desire will be sold.
I think thats a big difference.
Or where can I get a Nexus
Isn't NExus US only?

nexus will allso work in europe and it will come 2 europe it just hasn't arrived yet!
im gonna get mine from usa btw, but i have seen many companys selling the N1 in denmark for 4500 kroners and above
which is a skyhigh price as i can get it for 3080 in USA without shipping (7.5 euros=1 DK)

Found a German who is selling for 688€ very expensive. That is 5160DK

its way cheaper getting it from another country!

What I would say is take serious consideration of your country's import duties and taxes, and the method of shipment before you buy.
As I have posted elsewhere on this forum, one time it actually worked out significantly more expensive for me to order some AV equipment from the USA than ordering it from the most expensive store I could find it at in the UK. This was purely due to the US shipper sending the item by courier and quoting the full description and value on the shipping documents. Upon its arrival in the UK the courier submitted it to UK customs (levying their own fee +VAT for doing so), customs then charged their import duty, and then iced the cake with full UK VAT ...that all stung me for an extra 32% on the US retail price + shipping.
...we talk about "Rip-off Britain" in the UK but it's our own Customs & Excise who are the worst culprits of ALL.
Anyhow, all I'm saying is beware, and work out those charges. I worked out that the N1 would cost 480-490GBP delivered from Google US whereas I've pre-ordered the Desire at Clove for 430GBP.
Mind you, having said that I got a pair of Oakley Juliette Ducatti sunglasses (270GBP in the UK) delivered from the US for 132GBP - but they were posted as a gift so big savings can be made.

What I'm sure we will find is that HTC will not keep up with Google with releases and updates of Android ...absolutely certainly not once the Desire 2 is announced. They may issue one or two updates during th first year but once the phone is sold what incentive do they have to put time and effort into putting out updates. No, the only updates we are likely to see are those which take no resource to implement or they will put on their new retail phones in order to keep up with the N1 and will subsequently be released on their website.
However, with the N1 being Google's showcase Android device, Google has every incentive to keep the N1 as up-to-date as possible throughout it's life or until the hardware can no longer support Android so that users can show off to their mates and colleagues "Look what my Android can do today!". Hopefully then, those mates and colleagues will go out and get the next latest Android device (Nexus Two maybe?) to be part of it.

...and this situation will be even worse for phones supplied through network operators who spin their own cuts of the OS.
My wife's Orange HTC Hero went in for repair last week and by understanding from the Tech Support is that the latest Android ROM for the stock Hero is 2.7. Unfortunately, as my wife's Hero is branded from Orange it's stuck on 2.6 and I expect will be forever more. I have no faith in Orange releasing an Android 2.1 ROM for their legacy Heros.

1. you really should know about VAT and customs duty. Because here in Germany everything under 150€ has no customs duty and everything under 22€ does not need VAT when imported. So be aware of the exemption limit.
2. Google will only keep updating the nexus one till there is a nexus two.

What if it is shipped as a gift will that make a difference??

maybe but let me tell one example.
I bought a torch from China. It was shipped as a gift.
But the german customs duty personell did look into the package and they did figured out the trick. So I had to pay VAT (because no gift and over 22€). (no customsduty duty because under 150€)

u can buy nexus one in poland for about 500 euros....of course unofficial. the price is with shipping

Doesn't matter gift or not. Customs always look at the total value and if they do not know the total value of the goods, then you will be at the mercy of the custom officer, because then they will estimate the value! In either cases you will be screwed by customs - if caught .
As for The Netherlands all goods that enters here, if I'm not mistaken from the 2008 terms & conditions on import duties, valued above 175 Euro will not be exempted from any tax duties - if caught .

What's special is the physical keys and the optical trackball.

Desire availabilty in Hong Kong?

Is the HTC Desire available in HK. I will be there from 12-14th of April and Im really hoping to get it then. The legend is already available but no news about the Desire.
Not sure but try either the top floor (entry level) of Wan Chai Computer centre or the places around Sham Shui Po. If you have never bought electronics from HK, you need to be aware that there are two prices - one for HK stock (usually pricer) and the other for grey imports from China and Japan. Warranty coverage for the latter is done by the shop, so if you have a problem you will have to send it back to that shop. That being said, HTC probably wont provide warranty coverage outside of the country of purchase (according to one of the other threads).
Thanks for the advice. My iPhone was bought in Shenzhen so no worries about warranty. I have been coming to HK since last 7 years on business. Buying most of my gadgets there. I was only concerned regarding availability of the phone in HK as cant see it mentioned anywhere in any of the forums or Google.
I've checked out WanChai just last night actually and there's no sign of the Desire.
Good news is, because of the current favorable exchange rate with the GBP, you can just do what I do. Order overseas from Clove! I'm expecting mine to arrive in HK on Monday. And even with shipping, it's cheaper than it would be when it goes on sale in HK.
A friend was 4 days ago in HKG and he found it somewhere in Kowloon.
Sorry, i've no more details and no price tag...

I will try to the same as I will be in Hong Kong a couple of days after you.
I have bought HTC devices several times in Hong Kong and never had any problems.
The computer stores in Wan Chai and Mongkok are your best bet. Look around though do a bit of bargaining.
keep us inforned.

I cant order it to HK as I will be there only for 3 days and also cant order to India as then too expensive after paying import taxes. N1 is around 4500HKD in Mong Kok if Desire is same price or lower it will be ideal. I will look around Mong Kok and Sham Shui PO. Also Kowloon ( Thanks to Atomicman). If found and bought I will inform on this forum immediately.
I've been looking around for the Desire in HK too, so far nothing. Most of the shops either say they don't know the release date, or "maybe next week", which is the typical answer when they have no idea.
The latest from the HK forums (using google translate) is that HTC HK has said they're not sure of an exact date, maybe in June. The consensus is that they want to give the Legend (out March 31st) some time to sell before releasing the Desire. I'm sure grey imports from the UK will start to show up soon, but at a premium.
Not sure if it'll be cheaper than the Nexus One, since you can get an N1 directly from Google for less than $4500, so their price in Mongkok just includes a small mark-up. The Legend is $4180, down to $3980 in some places, so I reckon the Desire will be at least $6-800 more than that to set it apart.
Based on all that info, I also ordered from Clove today.
@ohyeahar: when did you order yours? Do you have a DHL tracking number for it already?

Ordered on March 8. Already shipping. Expecting it on Monday.
So slim to zero chance of getting a desire in HK before 14th April? So what do you suggest I do buy the Legend or N1? Please advise as Im quite eager to buy an android phone now. I will be able to change it only after 6 months so have to live with whichever phone I buy till then.
ohyeahar if you feel like selling your Desire let me know ;-)
@sickboy888
I got your PM and was trying to reply, but you've disabled receiving of PM's. You might want to look into that.
Finally bought the Nexus One as couldn't find the desire and cant with for an android phone any longer. I'm in HK till 15th Morning so if any one knows of a definite place where desire is available here do let me know. I don't mind buying that as well. Can always sell my N1 on Ebay in India.
I bought my HTC Desire (UK) version at a shop in Tsuen Wan. It mainly deals online shopping for customers from mainland china but they also sell phones there. I just got mine there yesterday. See if they have any stocks left and you can get one there. The contact information below:

$4380
Well to TBH you can buy it at Clove at a cheaper price...but what happens if your phone breaks down ? You won't be buying a round trip ticket to UK to just fix your phone... (Rmb the warranty for HTC UK is 2 years !!)
They include a one time FREE deliver service to UK center to repair the machine...and afterwards they charge you $200 only.
Just like ordinary HKers time is important...hehe

That's a good price actually. If you consider the price difference between the Legend and Desire in UK and that the Legend's retail price in HK is 4199, I'd expect the Desire to cost about 4389.
That is a good price considering the phone isn't available in the usual shops in HK.
Regarding the warranty, according to the spec on Clove the phone comes with a 2 year International warranty, so if anything goes wrong you should be able to get HTC HK to take care of it, right?

For AT&T users looking for a Desire, now is the time

The European/Asian version (A8181) won't work with AT&T 3G network, and the Australian version (A8183, Telstra branded) will work with AT&T 3G network as long as you are in the 850Mhz coverage area. From what I've heard, 850Mhz coverage includes all major cities. While I can't comment for your area, I can tell you that my A8183 works perfectly fine with AT&T 3G network in Chicago. AT&T has also stated that they are migrating all their 3G network to 850Mhz, leaving 1900Mhz only of EDGE.
Anyway, all of the info above can be found in other threads, what I want to add here is that Australian Dollars are dropping like CRAZY and it is now the great opportunity for you AT&T US users to buy the Desire from Australia.
Every US sellers have been selling this AT&T 3G compatible model on eBay for at least USD700, some even over USD800. There is this Australian eBay seller has been selling a few Desire for AUD700 each, and (although not listed in the auction, but you can ask him) he charges around AUD50 to ship to the US using EMS.
I bought mine from this seller around two weeks ago, with a total of roughly AUD 750, which, at the exchange that time, was about USD 700. Two weeks later, today, I was curious and searched "Telstra Desire" on eBay again and found that this seller still has a few A8183 model for sale, again at AUD 700 each. The difference? Now AUD has fallen SO much that AUD 750 costs only about USD 620~630... So if I had waited for two months, I could have saved 70 bucks!
Anyhow, I wrote this just to let you AT&T users to know that you don't have to pay $800 to get a AT&T compatible Desire. Just go to eBay and serach "Telstra Desire" and you will find the Australian seller I am talking about. He shipped pretty quickly, and with EMS if only take a few days to come to the US. The only problem I had in the process was that my phone was held by the US custom for a week, FOR NO REASON! When my phone arrived, the package showed no sign that it was inspected by the custom. Perhaps the custom was just too lazy and decided to take a week off processing packages.
Btw, in case you wonder, roms that work on the A8181 model work fine on the A8183. I followed the rooting procedure on Modaco forum, and installed Modaco custom rom r3 on my A8183 without any problem.
Yoz
Hah I think we think alike dude cause I got one from the same seller if I think you know? This the same guy?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320534188327
$578.06 + $49 Ship = $627 shipped for me ($49 Australia to STL, MO)
Not bad at all, especially for people that thought only option was an n1.
only 2 left now...
check the dudes Telestra's 850mhz HD2 also.. cheap! (Approximately US $660.64)
Best part is I get to make a nice chunk of that back with the sale of my old mint 8125 wizard and 8925 kaiser. cheers dude
Yup I bought my Desire from him.
Don't know how he get the Desire so cheap though, he is selling them cheaper than Telstra sells them. Before I bought the Desire from him, I was going to ask my friend in Australia to get the Desire from Telstra for me. But then Telstra was (and still is) selling it for AUD 779 (+ tax) w/o contract
http://www.telstra.com.au/shop/personal/Mobile-MobilePhones-HTCDesire?SMSESSION=NO
which was too for me.
I pick that Desire over the N1 because (a) I don't like the track ball, (b) I prefer physical button, and (c) I think the Desire looks better (personal preference). I have experience with rooting and flashing custom roms, and I knew the hardwares of the N1 and the Desire are similar enough that roms for one can be ported to the other within days. So even though I knew that the N1 would get new updates quicker, while the Desire has Sense (which I really love), this is not really an issue for me.
But I wasn't ready to pay $800 for (a)-(c) above, and luckily I found this seller on eBay. Given how cheap the AUD is these days, this is now an even sweeter deal.
Sweetness
Well that's great news im stoked to get mine then. I checked out the r3 release over at modaco looks mint as well will root and give that a shot after a week or so. You liking it how much bloatware in the telestra rom just curious?
I'm coming from my super old 8125 wizard (didn't need to upgrade) to this, so it should be rather sweet. I got mine out of contract cause i'm not on data plan and I don't need it (but have the option down the road) They will not add data to your service either if you're out of contract (4yrs out of contract here hah) many people have misconception of that.
Anyways it used to be even more greater savings it appears check out some of the feedbacks dude sold some HD2s for like $520 unlocked NIB. craziness gotta love those aussies on 850 data!
AS for how he gets them so cheap, I doubt he's able to sell with the auctions, just some copy/paste specs. I'm sure most people abroad think it's a scam. (Obviously not if you got yours, and he has 98% positive feedback at 238) Took me a good 15 mins to check it out, I was debating.
The guys name is SHIAUYI MA. Non-US verified on PAYPAL though so good to go completely safe. I will say i've been trying to get ahold of them with no response besides the paypal invoice. (had correct shipping and address though so looked good)
well
now there's only 1 left in the guys inventory, someone else jumped on it. The items in the pics are actual it appears check out the telestra symbol, as well the guy seems to sell a lot of gaming consoles and other tech to AU only with pics on the same wood table and such.
It was $760AU ($627USD) on my Paypal invoice yesterday morning ($60AU for shipping = $49USD) so yeah you're right tsekh501, as of today Aussie rates are great for us if you paid $750AU and it was actually $700 just 2 months ago.
I think i'll even take it over to the local AT&T and ask when the desire's coming out for us AT&T users
I have always had windows mobile, but have been fortunate of enough the past two months or so to use a lot of the recent Android builds for Kaiser, using donut and eclair 2.1 (at least runs well) I know the OS pretty well now. I dig it and was ready for the real thing. let's put that extra 64mb of ram over the N1 to use! Cheers
*Update
Seller responded last night, and it appears 4 more were sold as well after posting the link on here. Glad to have helped anyone out snagging one for cheap.
"Dear atom311,
Yes, It is how much australia post charges for int' express post to US.
Normally it takes 1-3 business days.
And your item should be ready to go out on Monday.
Thanks
- yoyopopo1214"
i was one of the guys that got this. the seller seems a bit hard to get a hold of, but i will reserve any judgement until i get the phone. i asked him when he was shipping the phone and could supply me with a tracking number and he replied that he shipped via int' express post and would follow up with a tracking number, which strikes me as odd because it shouldn't have been very hard to have included the number in that message. i'm sure he's a legit seller, i think he just lacks some customer service skills. maybe i'm just getting antsy because my kaiser got smoked over the weekend and i need a phone.
He is legit. I bought one form him and has been using it very happily since last week.
He doesn't communicate very well though. It took him more than a day to get back to me with the shipping quote, and when my package got stuck in LAX custom (which was NOT the seller's fault, btw) I emailed him to see if he knew what was happening but he didn't reply at all.
The phone is legit and the shipping is very quick (minus the stuck at custom part, which can happen to anything shipped from outside the US. If the package had gone through the custom within a day, tha phone could have arrived in 3 days), however.
yeah, before buying i went through his feedback and figured he's a legit seller, just wish he could work on his service skills a bit more.... oh well, i guess that's the price to pay for getting something at a cheaper price. can't reallly expect too much seeing as he's selling for less than telstra. if you don't mind me asking where in the US are you located at tsekh501?

got mine today, perfect mint condition, NIB, never opened like stated. from Australia to St. Louis (Middle of the USA) in 4 days... sweetness! Anyways all is mint, dude is legit, I suggest keeping him on your favorites pages, see what he gets now and then, could actually make some dough in the US. Anyways, Im more than happy, they come like stated. 2GB SD for Telestra.
They'll probably all land at LAX of course, its the biggest and closest port to our Aussie pals
btw custom report shows David Huang as the shipper for anyone wondering
Nice!
Hello guys,
I bought a HTC HD2 to him on monday and I did a little research of the seller. That's amazing I got all your comments in xda
His communication is not that well but I hope it arrives before next monday.
Sorry this is not the right forum for my experience

shortage of desire?

hi folks,
the network i'm on in ireland are telling me they cant get any new desire for at least two weeks.. that there's a europe wide shortage? any stock issues elsewhere?
Cheers,
Mick
Yeah, I had to wait 3 weeks for mine from Vodafone, although admittedly the volcano didn't help.
It seems like other people are having problems with Vodafone, looks as though HTC underestimated the Desire's popularity.
Got it in Holland, didn't have to wait they had a couple of desires left. The guy told me they sell very well, so I wouldn't be surprised if they ran out of desires before ordering new ones.
The same situation applies in Greece too.
HTC Desire is not available through any carriers, or even online shops
which usually provide cellphones much earlier than official shops.
First I ordered it online they told me I had to wait 4 weeks. Since I didn´t want to do that. Than I called a shop and asked if they had it in stock. They just had one left! So rushed to the shop and bought mine
Yeah, it's been selling out everywhere. I got mine in Dublin on the day Meteor released it, I had to ring 4 different stores because they were booked out in most places. I got the second last one they had in stock in Grafton Street (and they only got them in around mid-morning).
And apparently Vodafone and O2 hadn't even planned on stocking it until their customers kicked up a huge fuss on the forums... I guess they were concerned about it eating into 3GS sales. Although maybe I'm giving their business acumen a little too much credit there... the way these guys operate in this country it wouldn't surprise me if they just couldn't have been bothered. Wonder how many customers O2 and Voda lost due to Meteor jumping in ahead of them with the Desire. (Me, for one!)
There goes a possible answer...
Clove.co.uk have been out of stock for weeks. Their last shipment was completely taken up by existing pre-orders, and (opinion) the same may happen with the current shipment too (due about the end of this week, exact arrival date tbc)
play.com claim to have stock - but I think they are fibbing
So, on the one hand, "Yay" for the Desire.
On the other hand, "C'mon, HTC [& samsung]! Get a move on! (but make sure you glue down the screens properly )"
Vodafone NL had a notice in the online shop saying it's not available for 4 weeks. Glad i got mine by mail the day it was released
Tis good news.
Well from HTC's point, you can't not update to 2.2 as the sheer amount of people buying them. IF the nexus one stays as the 2.2 Desire then sales will fall as people buy them instead.
So I am hopeful of June 23rd
Yo I got mine at the very beginning in Hong Kong with a hkd200 which is around 30 usd higher than the original price.
Luckily I made a decision to take it from the store otherwise I might have to wait for five days to two weeks for the phone.
Desire, what a great name.

Clove.co.uk seem to be fulfilling pre-orders
As far as I can tell, clove started dispatching pre-ordered Desires yesterday (2/6/2010).
Their site still says "Stock delayed until the first week of June. Exact arrival date to be confirmed" but they probably recieved enough to cover some of the existing orders in the pipeline (mine included!)
I bought mine online as well got it had it for two weeks, but I had to send mine for repair, inner earpiece stopped working, and they said they need to replace it, also saying there is shortage have to wait a week or two, not to sure.

Yes, I think you are right. A big desire user base will definitely help ensure (a) future update(s). Bad after sales support for a large user base will also mean large public backlash when people are starting to lose faith in htc their support.
There's definitely a shortage going on. Virgin Mobile (UK) have said that there's a stock shortage on the Desire in particular and it will be ongoing through the WHOLE of June and MOST of July (Probably the whole of July, they said).
They're getting a small shipment in on the 7th, but it's a VERY small shipment. So small, they're no longer selling them on anything less than 30ppm contracts! And that's only to existing Virgin MEDIA contract holders.
Glad I got mine when I did lol

[Q] Import HTC One X or AT&T One XL

I'm looking over in different threads talking about defects in the phone and what not. I'm not usually superstitious, but without fail I've had to replace every smartphone I've ever owned at least once. (iPhone 3GS went twice, Evo went 5 times, MyTouch went once, Amaze went once, Sensation went twice, One S went once, would have gone back again but T-Mobile let me out of my contract and I sent it back) I should note that every time I've listed was for defects. My friends can't believe my track record with smartphones... but I love my phones all the same. I especially enjoy my HTC phones.
So to make a long story short (too late) I'm considering the One X because I have to switch back to AT&T after a long hiatus. Sadly no choice in this as its for work. I have the choice of getting a One X International edition from EBay, Craigslist or the marketplace here and have my 32gb of storage, Tegra 3 for gaming and an unlockable bootloader, but must contend with the possible absence of enforceable warranty since it IS imported...
OR
I can swallow my pride as an IT guy... and go for the local varient.
With its only 16gb of storage (only 10 really useable in my experience with the Amaze).
With its S4 chip (nice, but I do like me some Tegra 3 exclusives.......)
And its Warranty that I can go to one of several local corp stores and have enforced. Our local stores are actually pretty decent.
I don't want to have to own several devices to get the experience I want. I really want to go with the International version for the gaming library open to the Tegra 3, such as Dark Meadow. I know some games end up getting ports or hacks to allow play on other devices... but I like things to "just work" sometimes without too much hassle. I have to deal with hassle day in and day out with my job, I like my devices to be toys once I get home, not more work.
So... yeah. Thoughts?

You can buy it from an authorized dealer in the UK and it comes with a two-year warranty. I just sent an SGS2 to the UK for repair and Samsung paid to ship it to them and I had to pay 10GBP to have it shipped back. I got my One X from Handtec and it arrived overnight via FedEx. If you buy from Negri or Expansys-USA you can send it to them if it needs repair and they ship it to their overseas affiliates who deal with HTC locally. It takes a lot longer though because of all the hand-offs. SquareTrade also covers grey market phones and if you Google it they're having a 30% off deal for Mother's Day. Buying from Handtec or Clove in the UK assures you'll get a UK (EU) handset. Negri and Expansys have been shipping Malaysian units. Also with the international version you'll get updates directly from HTC, a lot of features AT&T removed (HTC apps, CloudDrive integration), and none of AT&T's crapware. It doesn't matter if you're rooting and ROM'ing. I can't use use non-standard ROMs because I travel overseas a lot so I always get my phones from the UK.
Is there a hardware or software or build quality difference between the Malaysian and EU handsets?
The main reason I'm wondering is because VAT seems so high. I mean, I go from a phone that's just over $600 to a phone thats well over $700... That extra $100 is not appetizing at all really.
I don't do a lot of traveling, I just prefer the international version of this phone to the AT&T variant because it feels like AT&T gave us a worse phone for the same price...
I do tend to root and rom, but having the stock rom without clutter gives me more time to enjoy the phone without having to replace anything.
In the end though I guess what I need to know on the international front is if there is a real difference between the Asian and European One X International or if its just the rom that comes on it (which I guess I can just flash the european rom if its just a software thing)
Edit:
Just checked Handtec and VAT doesn't apply since its being shipped outside the UK via FedEx. At least not according ot everything from before I press "buy"
Shipping does raise it to 630 though compared ot the 609 + free shipping...
So I guess it still stands with the Malaysian vs EU phone differences.

I don't think there are any physical differences; they're all built in the same place. If you're not going to root and replace the ROM, get the UK phone. The Asian phones have Asian english where the UK phones have UK english. Neither have U.S. english out of the box.

Would you say the UK phone would be easier to get warranty serviced than an asian one through Expansys?
As for the english, I will be rooting and romming eventually, but I could live with UK english easier than Asian english...

[NVM] Any Australian 7T HD190x users ... ?

I'm very seriously considering buying an HD1905 on the US OnePlus site, they've got a decent discount as the 8 is about to launch, and I can grab genuine accessories at the same time. Shame the AUD is so crap right now, but that can't be helped.
I'm interested to know if there are OP7T Australian owners out there, what model variant, what carriers you're on, and if there are any issues with reception.
I'm on Telstra so I'm especially interested to hear from other Telstra users.
I've looked at the various bands in the specs, compared it to the OzTowers guide (that I luckily managed to grab before it shut down), and also looked at frequencycheck.com
My preference is to buy it from OnePlus US. While there are a bunch of "local websites" that purport to sell re-flashed HD1900 units as "Global HD1903", I would much rather get an untouched phone out of the box. The US HD1905 seems to have the broadest international carrier band support from what I can divine from reading.
One of the "local websites" says to email them any questions. So I did and the answers were basically "dunno, ask the carrier" which is pointless since OnePlus have no presence in Australia.
Despite having many Samsung Galaxies over the years I've decided not to consider them. Our Huawei P20 Pro has been good but tech support is hopeless, and no bootloader unlock service anymore, that alone rules them out for me.
So the OnePlus 7T is my preferred choice ... looking forward to hearing from any Aussie users out there.
My friend wanted the 'best phone for the money' and bought this phone on my advice. They ship them from China, but it arrived the next day! They happened to have one in stock in Auckland.
My friend was thrilled but when a truck ran over it (after 3 weeks), not so.
So she's around the next morning and buys another one (~NZ$860). This time it took about a month to arrive as THE VIRUS slowed everything to a trickle.
We have a great website in NZ pricespy.co.nz and you'll have something like that in Oz.
Buying from the US is fraught. Postage costs an arm and a leg.

Thanks for the feedback, I've actually just bought a Galaxy S20 from JB as they had a decent discount for a newly released phone. The deciding factors against the OnePlus on this occasion was the total lack of Australian support, lack of IP68, the many negative service/warranty related user reviews on different sites selling them, and the idea that I'd be facing massive turnaround to ship it back to the US for warranty.
Shipping from the US isn't a problem for me as I regularly send consolidated packages through a 3rd party shipper.
Plus in these uncertain times we're making an effort to support the local outlets.
