The WP7 has more than 3 buttons - Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking

hi,
Sorry that i open a new thread for it but i hate the discussions about the numbers of buttons of the hd2 and WP7.
And i hate that microsoft isn't telling us the truth.
So,
The HD2 have 7 Buttons.
1. (On the left side) Volume (there are actually 2 buttons, but who cares )
2. (in the middle ) the Screen
3. Phone Button
4. Home Button
5. Start Button
6. Back Button
7. Power/Sleep Button
Let's take a look on the "UI Design and Interaction Guide for Windows Phone 7 Series" on page 20.
The WP7 have 7 Buttons.
1. (On top) Power/Sleep
2. (On the left side) Volume (again, two buttons)
3. The good old screen
4. (on the right side) the camera button
5. Back Button
6. Start Button
7. Search Button
So, the difference is the layout.
at windows mobile 7, the home and the start button would do the same, so one of the two buttons could be the search buttons and the windows mobile 7 dont use the phone buttons, so this could be the camera buttons.
sorry for the bad english .

EDIT : if someone wants to see the guide here it is

as it has been said before, the reason isnt the buttons, but the hardware image scaler, and the presence of an sd card slot

Um... Count again?

[edit]Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself since I don't actually own one. Doesn't the HD2 also have a dedicated power button (other than the End key) at the top of the phone? No?

Nope the "end" button is also the power button.

Hehe. Shows what I know.
So HTC just needs to send out a few stickers to cover the existing button labels along with the WM7 ROM upgrade

Would be funny as hell if they did!

Come on ppl ... get over it .... It is getting old already.
At this moment in time, accept the fact ... Microsoft will not provide upgrade to HD2.

hd2 gpu has the image scaler , the reason of not getting the the update is financial not hardware at all

if thats true, i agree, the reason is financial

yea cant post links, but if you google the detailed specs for the snapdragon chipset, qualcomm says that the gpu has an internal image scaler to auto scale images to the screen size and resolution

Close button???

Hi,
Does anyone know how to make applications close when you press the "OK" HARDWARE key? I've tried Switch, Magic Button and SPB. Each closes applications when I use the stylus to tap on the "x" or "ok" button on the screen, but only minimize apps when I press the "ok" hardware button.
(IMHO, it's rather silly of Microsoft and HTC not to make this possible by default. Especially as the call-end hardware button already does the job of minimizing applications and returning you to the today screen...)
Please advise.
Thanks.

I've been using the HTC Close Button cab on my Orbit.
Its a small app that really close the progs with the "X".
And this works very good!!
Coolgadget,
Thanks for that .........spot on, just what I've been looking for, why didn't O2 put that on as standard???
Rob
I use AE button plus (google) which allows me to map such functions to whatever button I choose.
The unregistered version is all that is needed.

Coolgadget, thanksfor the cab, but I'm afraid it hasn't helped. It is behaving exactly as the oters did. Yes, it closes applications when you tap on the "X" on the screen, but it only minimizes the app when you press the "ok" HARDWARE button (emphasis on hardware, not on-screen). Could I be doing something wrong?
What I want is a way to actually close applications by pressing a hardware key (helps one handed operation when on the move).
Any idea, anyone?

[REQ]PRJ[IDEA] Convert Hardware ZoomBar to D-Pad on an HTC Rhodium or HTC Topaz

First off I appologize if this is in the wrong section but I didn't know where to start this thread as both the Topaz and Rhodium have a similar zoom bar above the hard keys, there may be other devices too so it would be great if we could develop such an application to work on all these devices which feature a pretty useless zoombar.
I used to own a Touch Pro (Raphael) and evolved to a new Touch Pro2 (Rhodium), the one thing I miss the most (besides the camera LED) is the D-Pad and Enter button.... when the phone is in portrait mode.
I think this image describes my idea pretty well:

I have no programming skills so I am seeking the great help of all the developers here on XDA. I hope some of you like my idea and post comments and hopefully someone will try and develop this for us to use.
It should have 5 main functions, slide Left, slide Right, tap Up, tap Down, & tap Enter.
What do you think?
im in the same boat, id love to see this come to life.
for the HTC Diamond its possible so it must be possible on this to !!
i'm all for it! i still cant understand the idea that htc had to remove the dpad! :S
anyone working on this?
while i get a touch diamond 2 for chrismas and my father owning a rhodium, we both would be amazed by this mod!

i moved from the ppc 6700 apache witht ehexcelent joystick my wife had the mogul and now the touch pro with the dpad. I have the tp2 rhodium and that and the flash are the things i miss most. i actuaqlly did not want to upgrade from the apache to the tp2because the lack of the joystick. for a while itried everything and have given up and just got used to it the way it is. I still miss the one handed contro for reading articles on the web and making phone calls as well moving the cursor to where i wanted it. I sometimes am forced to open the keyboard and use the arrow keys. I used the rhodium keyboard control to assign the up down volume control and the power button as well as the mute button on the back but did not end up using it. i had tap double tap triple tap and press and hold. i tried the actual dpad on the screen but that didnt work for me. the other one that use the zoom control i didnt like becasue you had to slide this one looks much better and looks like it might work. i would be willing to donate to a developer who can make it happen

[HOWTO] Enable text mode and disable Start/OK keys in 6.5.x

Just use the following regkeys
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\BubbleTiles]
"TextModeEnabled"=dword:00000001
"HardwareStartKeyEnabled"=dword:00000001
"HardwareDoneKeyEnabled"=dword:00000001

It makes your softkeys like the ones on the HD Mini, ie no start icon and every button is text and not an icon.

On HD2, we do have hardware Start key (Win icon). But which one is the Done key?
So what do we use to exit a program or hit OK?

On the mini and HD2 that would be the back button. Not only for exit but also for the OK button.

Good find! Wishing that our blackstone would have the start key or remap home key as start key.
Possibly a silly question. But I've implemented these changes and have 'action' and 'Menu' softkeys instead of 'start', 'action' and 'menu'. How do you access start to get to your apps/tools etc

Sorry that makes no use for me becuase the Touch HD don't have a start button and I mapped the OK/Back button to exit the programme.

camera button to unlock (IN touch keys devices)

Hey guys
In most devices (eg htc trophy)
There is no physical button below the device to unlock, (When the device is in sleep mode) like the iPhone "home button" just touch keys
It's very annoying to reach up to sleep button to unlock.
What do you think?

[Q] Bug? HTC Sense Input Keyboard arrow button gone!

Found this issue on my one X. The arrow/direction key seem to be gone from keyboard when using 3rd parties apps. (Whatsapp / Line / Facebook / Path / etc)
But it seem to be working fine on web browser, text message, google search widget and some other apps that came along with the phone.

Solution HTC support gave
Thank you for contacting HTC.
With reference to your query, we checked your attachment and inquiry, we would like provide following suggestions:
1. Power off your phone for 5 minutes and then resart your phone agian.
2. If the issue still persists, we would suggest you entre the safe mode to exclude some third parties' conflicts:
power off the device for one minute
Press " power button " to power on device until you see the htc logo
Then press and hold " Volume down key" until entering OS
" Safe Mode " text will appears on the lower left of screen.
Keep your phone in safe mode for one day and check whether the direction arrow atill keeps disappear. Thanks!
*But it is not doing any good

It's apps which aren't ICS-optimised yet. The on-screen menu button covers the arrow keys on the keyboard.

Be interesting to see what they say; whether it's intentional to not reduce screen area any further when both keyboard and menu button are displayed, or whether it's just badly designed.
Other keyboards with arrows (like SwiftKey) still display them along with the menu button (everything's just shifted a row up), so it's specific to HTC's keyboard design.
