Is is true that HD2 is Windows phone 7 upgradable? - Windows Phone 7 General

Hi I went to internet and saw an news article about HD2 from MS Korea . The spokesman said that HD2 will not be upgradable to WP7 since it has
-Lesser ROm (567mb requirement compared to 512mb)
-more button( 3button requirement and HD2 has 5)
personally 2nd reason is BS and 1st reason is kind of ignorable since you can remove ringtons etc to slim down the rom I guess
They added please don't get misunderstood and fall into victim of scam or something along the line
I am sure that XDA will manage though, 55mb Rom is not that much (But it really depends on how m$ builded WP7. What if core component is 567 mb lol)
If you want to read the article, run google translate. I know how to read korean so... BTW, this is sort of reliable site.

do one google on that question.
If you dont find your answer searching the around the forum, one google search should make give you a crystal clear answer for that question.
For what I know, HTC wil not support any winp7 ROM upgrade for Leo. But what the developers here wil come up with, you just have to wait and see.

my mistake
my reply probably did not adress your question.

oh no... it's neverending....
Alright guys.....
Latest news first:
HD2 will run WP7 just download the beta ROM from HTC China!!!

First, the politics of Microsoft always sux, cos, they dont care about costumers, what is leading them on front, is MONEY EARNING and DRAINING them from our POCKETS, so, they will find a way how to say that their OS wont run on HD2, cos they expect from us to get new phones, and fill their pockets again.

And I got this from the HTC officially:
This was my question's:
I have a 1.66 wwe rom on my hd2. But when are the update to this coming? As manny of the applications in that rom are out dated, ex. the Opera 10 is out, Facebook is updated, pluss many other. And the 578 mb ram everybody knows it has, when will that radio be baked inn? And finaly, everybody knows wm7 will come to the hd2, when?
Anoying lazy info on the forums everywhere is confusing me!
And bellow is the answers;

really?Why don't I know about it?

I don't think a Rom exists as no one is supporting it yet.

I contacted HTC Uk askking if there will be an official ROM to download to put on our beloved HD2. The responce was short and sweet and I will quote.......
"Unfortunately there is no plan from Microsoft to update WM version 6.5 to version 7."

At least that confirms the 2.0 version we've seen? And the release date Hurray!

that's grate news
TFLo3d
It's not as responsive as I see it in the youtube vids.
Seems to run flawlessly.
I notice a real slow down when I import contacts. I have quite a few.
and what is with the new versions of WM?
To the question : "WM6.5 or WM7 on diamond ?", the answer is "YEEES ! you will have WM6.1++ !!!"
I think it means we won't have them from HTC, as they probably reserve it for a brand new phone they'll try to sell us...
But XDA developpers are the bests, so i'm sure we can expect them to cook a nice WM7 Rom as soon as it will be available...
Let's hope WM7 will be able to run on our Diamonds. Can't wait till the release!
Not too sound too negative, but I mean WM6 kills the diamond - it makes it choke (cooked ROM's or not).
Hopefully that won't be the case for WM7. Because up to this point, I'm rooting Android all the way
This is pure speculation from all of us, since we're talking about an unreleased product. That said, Windows 7 beta seems a lot snappier than Vista (I know - doesn't say much) and slightly faster than XP. So, maybe WM7 will run faster than 6.1?
Some people have mentioned WM7, I highly doubt HTC will release 6.5 for the Diam/Raph/BlackS, never mind 7.
Good thing we have xda-devs, though I suspect that 7 will require new and diff. hardware in phones, such as multitouch.
how reliable is the news?
yea wm really sucks.. ms is really poor at innovation..
diamond doesnt have multi touch?
anyway been waiting for a new official rom for a damn long time.. was tempted to flash to a cooked rom.. so i guess can wait till jan for now to see what they offer..
Hopefully they resolve issues like memory leak.. and learn from the forums what the users really expect of the diamond and tf3d..
LOL when it be wm7 upgrade you ll have another **** phone from htc so what are you solving here i consider that due to ms is poor bastard* wm7 will be at 2010...just look to articles and news...

The guy interviewed is:
"Selskapets produktsjef for de nordiske og baltiske markedene, Christer Högström" ==> "HTC's Chief of Products for the nordic and baltic markets, Christer Högström"
So probably as reliable as it gets before the actual download is available.
Edit:
HTC actually got a bunch of questions regarding WM6.5 on current models, to sum up they're answers:
HTC will have to pay an upgrade license per device for 6.1 to 6.5, the details regarding this is not all worked out yet, so he couldn't answer if there would be released official 6.5 updates and if it would be free or a upgrade fee involved.
I suppose most/many of the hardcore users would be interested in upgrading if the fee vs gains is the right...
Don't hold your breath!
If HTC release an official 6.5 ROM upgrade for the Diamond, I will video myself eating my device and post it on YouTube for all to see! New OS means sales of NEW devices.... this makes good sense for businesses. Why offer an upgrade for a device someone has already bought when they can sell you a nice new device with the latest OS installed?
Thank goodness for XDA Developers, that's what I say! We will have our upgrade one way or another!

Making an upgrade available for some small fee wouldn't be that bad. Bussinesswise I understand your viewpoints but on the other hand, I buy my phone for 500EUR ($800 or something) I think for that price I can get some service. If I get bad service I wouldn't stay with HTC, but frequent updates will make me buy another one (or your operator will buy another one for you with ur contract), if that's 500EUR every 2 years I think they can be really happy.

Next Generation HTC -> HTC Sense

Hey,
today i have seen a video of the new HTC Hero with the HTC Sense GUI.
I also read that the new Windows Mobile Phones will have this GUI.
Does one of the seniors know if this GUI can be portet to Touch Diamond?
Hear a little promo video;-)

if htc would release it on wm ....
in this case sense runs on android...so we have to wait ..maybe it will be released on wm 6.5
Farcical question. Please have some self-respect. This is currently on Android.
First try and get Android ported, if you want it ported from Android. If you want a WM version, then let it at least release or leak before you can even contemplate such a question.
Looks very similar to the palm pre's os
I read that the new Windows Mobiles Phones will have HTC Sense to.
So if the Touch Diamond 2 will updated with Windows Mobile 6.5 and HTC Sense there will be no problem!?

O come on!
I think HTC intend to have this interface on all of their new handsets, WinMo and Android both. There's also been some talk of it coming out on the Touch Diamond 2. No doubt some enterprising hacker from XDA-Devs will come up with an installable version for various phones.
I think the main problem might be if the phone assumes a Widescreen format (e.g. WVGA) rather than the diamond's VGA. I think the HTC Hero is actually lower-res than WVGA though so perhaps this won't be an issue.
The Hero is HVGA (320 x 480) resolution. HTC have said that the "Sense" interface will be available on "some" existing products. Best guess is that it'll only be available for those products that require minimal effort in porting. They have a vested interest in selling new phones, not propping up old ones

I don't think so. Nuke1 was correct. How can we consider a porting job when the UI is released on another OS and on a resolution currently not used on our phones!
You guys bit down on him too hard. The original question is exceptionally far out. There is no software or evidence to even investigate into porting. It hasn't happened yet so there is no basis for an answer...?

And spot on. I'll put money on it that most phones coming from HTC will be WVGA so if/when Sense UI makes it's way to WM it will most likely be in that resolution. Which will equate to a porting job for VGA devices.
However there is no such software released in any resolution for WM at least, so as I said above, even considering porting it (at this stage) is simply impossible.

I just didn't see the point of this thread considering the Android version has barely leaked, and here we have a guy asking if a WM version can be ported, while there's still bugs in Manila 2.
If it was simply a question, then post it in the general Diamond section, not the ROM section, esp. at this early stage.

This petition i directed to HTC, Microsoft and all wireless carriers who sell these devices:
We want Windows Phone 6.5 for our HTC Touch Diamond/Pro/HD!
Sign Petition here
Help me so I can help you.
Don't mean to discourage you, but i find kinda funny you posting this on a forum where there's atleast 100 diferent Windows Mobile 6.5 roms for those devices...
Even better, Windows 6.5.1 in all of them...
I'll sign the petition for the kicks, but there's no way i would use the upgrade even if they released it...
Contrary to you I like official roms instead of all the crap software that the coocked roms have. I like to have the base and choose myself the software I want to put in ...
Good initiative ...
Shure, like they care!
I have sign that anyway.
Good luck!
Just do it!
Come on people, it may well turn out to be a waste of time but hey, it only takes a minute or two - you'd be crazy not to!
Spread the word!
Steve.
PS
I looked at the petition again (17 mins after signing) and another 14 had signed.
By my reckoning - at that rate - we should hit 10000 in just under 8.5 days.
Worth a shot eh?
For HTC, there is simply no business case for doing this.
signed!

Maybe next time, punctuation. Maybe next time...
Personally, I'm in the 'Buy a phone for what it can do now, not what I hope it might be able to do in the future' school of thought.
Sure, no WP7 is a disappointment, but if you own an HD2 (as I did for a while), you got what was being promised. For me, it was the lack of a keyboard that made me get a TP2, but the HD2 is still one helluva phone.
No announcement has been made. I'm gonna laugh if the HD2 ends up getting an update.
bye bye cry baby, i swear you guys crack me up. how can you be upset when you bought the phone without anything being announced if you bought it because YOU THOUGHT it was getting an update thats your own fault, ms didnt tell you ANYTHING. and the hd2 is gonna have wp7s soon enough, maybe not officially but who cares, custom roms>>>>>>official roms
I would be glad to take your HTC HD2 off your hands

It's not so much the lack of an upgrade that's the problem, it's the combination of that plus WP7 being incompatible with Windows Mobile software. That's one thing nobody was predicting a few months ago, and it means that there is no longer any reason for a commercial software company to continue working on any Windows Mobile project - see, for example, Adobe's decision to scrap FlashPlayer on WinMo.
To say "your phone won't get an OS upgrade" is one thing, but to say "your phone won't get an upgrade, and incidentally we also neglected to mention that your phone's current OS would cease to be a viable platform for commercial software about three months after you buy it" is something else.
And it is not by any means certain that there will be custom ROMs based on WP7.

I doubt it. The reason chefs have been able to make WM6.5 for older devices is because it is still based off of the same kernel as 5.0-6.1. If you are familiar with cooking ROMs for older devices, you would realize that we are still using 6.0 drivers on all of these 6.5 ROMs. Once the kernel changes, however, those drivers will most-likely be useless.
And yeah, buying the HD2 probably wasn't the best idea.

I'm quite on the contrary
Ironically a handful of days ago I made similar decision. Except for that I was really, really pissed off by Android and decided to switch back to WinMo. So I got a HD2.
Now I'm (again) having:
- The capability to play almost every media format on my phone
- *REAL* GPS navigation suites
- Serious, polished, and visually attractive games, by lots
- Proper tool to manage my personal (2 of them) and business mail accounts, with attachment, reply record and everything
- Excellent applications to read *AND EDIT* Word and Excel files. It's vital to have this as a translator who frequently has to work on-the-go.
- PDB, PRC, CHM, LIT, TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, HTML, PDF in short, whatever document format I may need to read. And the tools to do this are generally extremely polished
- The freedom of setting the phone on true mute mode once and for all, unlike on certain idiot OS where you set the thing on mute, all system notifications get silenced, while everything else from media player to games continue to sing how ever loud it likes
And what I no long have:
- Don't have to pick from a thousand not so different but frequently buggy cooked ROMs
- Don't have to flash my phone like once per week to keep up with new version of cooked ROM franchise
- Don't have to comb through 10K apps, filter 90% of them (crapware swarm), and pray "God give me some actually useful app please, amen"
Anyway, I'm not sure why so many people chanting around "Android is much, much by the outdated WinMo". I believe that the value of a smartphone is reflected by what it can achieve. WinMo so far is still much better than Android on satisfying my professional and entertainment needs. Yep its UI is no match for Android's (at least less colorful). But I can't care less about that. Beautiful or not, get the job done first.
As to WP7 update. Well, I'm having great faith on XDA. Even if Microsoft and HTC decide to screw HD2 owners big time, chances are pretty good the magnificent young men (and women) here can make an unofficial update happen. It doesn't really matter for me if this is not happening. Right now I'm having everything I need already, and I'm happy. WP7 is only a plus.
it's so true ....

Actually I really don't care if Windows Phone 7 doesn’t get an "official" release for HD2.... Its current state is a "Solid Windows Mobile 6.5 PocketPC" which is exactly what was intended for it to be.

I PM'd you with my offer

HTC Desire Future Update

Hi, where can i find all the planned updates for the desire? and is FroYo is really different than 2.1?
HTC have not published any sort of roadmap for future updates, so your best bet is to go to your nearest psychic, and ask them!
And to answer your second question: Yes.
Regards,
Dave
June the 23rd ... thats the date we are all freed from 2.1.. LOLO!!
But then you have to throw Orange / O2 etc etc in the pot.. so to be honest ...
look on the forum .. and either get a new rom or wait till next year !!!!
23rd June has only been stated by a member on here - there's no guarantee that either him or the person he spoke to is telling the truth.
Unless the guy knew the iPhone 4 was coming out then

Sorry im kinda lost in translation here whats orange/o2 and why will i throw it? Lol
So basically the 720p, divx playback is just rumors?
So htc will just give us froyo then discontinue the updates and support?
First, Google makes the Android OS, so they'll release 2.2 (Froyo).
Then HTC add their own front-end to it, called Sense UI.
Finally, Orange, 3, Vodaphone and so on add their own tweaks (and rubbish apps) on top.
Each of those additional steps takes extra time, so basically Nexus One users will get it first, unbranded Desire users will have to wait a while for the HTC version, then others will have to wait even longer for the network versions.
If HTC go on the offensive with 2.2 on the 23rd i'll be laughing evilly over here. tbh I think HTC need to get this update out as simply put Sales will fall. the race between the two companies will be incredibly close. HTC need to make sure it's best hand is on the table. and keep there core elements separate and upgradable on the fly.
HTC will just release another dirge of handsets and forget the Desire. Am I being cynical??
Nope,
but with an official, yes will update it, with a possible date i'm hopeful.
i see.. too bad i live in the philippines so i will not get the updates from the mobile ops in other countries..
so the divx and 720p are just rumors?

I don't think you're far off with that assumption, my previous phone was a touch HD their former flagship model, it got one lame excuse of an update that did more harm than good, they kind of [email protected] us over with the 6.5 update that brings a stable and fast build, gave some lame excuse about users not wanting an update anyway
That made me not wanting to buy an HTC ever again, if only the desire wasn't the best android phone avaible at the time and my contract wasn't up for renewal, I wouldn't have consider another HTC.
According to a post on official blog of Polish service provider ORANGE, HTC is due to release the Froyo update for Desire in August 2010.

Use translate if you like, or here's my awesome translation of:
"HTC poinformował nas, że umożliwi klientom upgrade systemu w okolicach sierpnia."
"HTC informed us, that it will provide system upgrade for it's clients around august"

It doesnt matter anymore. HTC already lost this battle. HTC desire cant stand versus an Iphone 4.

Yes throw your phones in the bins everyone, theyre useless now.
No. I just wish Id waited. Wanted Divx support and 720p. Well since I cant get that on Desire nor Iphone. I take the later cuz it is simple better.
We are only customer... buy and enjoy it
The way I see it:
I purchased an awesome Desire my first HTC phone of many. I did not expect plenty of updates but do expect updates to solve issues.
If I dont get any updates then fine as my handest runs like a dream. I dont have any issues and dont need any solving (well only user error)
Surely good buisness is to release a new handset rather than offering new roms to exsiting customers. As long as problem solving updates are done im happy and surely you cannot slate HTC for this.
If you purchased a Ferrari and then they release a new engine, sat nav, bluetooth, leather etc you cannot expect a free upgrade as then you wont purchase the new model!
