Dual LED? - Desire General

I've just watched a video on the TM site for the HTC Desire and I see only one flash?
I thought it had dual LED?

I think you thought wrong.

The HD2 has dual led.

Quote from the TM website...
"5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash"
I knew I'd seen it somewhere...

They're not talking about it flashing twice are they!?!? Like a red eye reduction feature?
As shown here: T-Mobile Comp winner's Desire Quick review about a minute in when he takes a pic with it.

Rhodium Pics

A mate of mine bought a rhodium and kindly uploaded pics, have at it
I must say, it's pretty damn sexual.
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmnnn, that's one nice phone. Thanks for the pictures.

I should add... that friend is me .
If anyone has questions I'll be happy to answer.
Damn you Oli - looks pretty damn nice.
You happy with it?
Dave
NIIIIIICE pics !! thanks for the upload..
I've had a bit more of a play with the device and as a previous Blackstone owner (Touch HD), there are some pretty noticeable differences in the UI which I'd thought I'd share for those who are interested and havn't yet got their own to play with.
Firstly, the start menu has now been totally replaced with a HTC version, which can be disabled it seems by browsing this forum, but TF3D offers no in-built method to disable it which is kind of annoying (see attached image).
Secondly, the TF3D menu style is extended into almost all programs. For example even in file explorer, opening the standard menu from the soft key shows a 'finger friendly enlarged menu' (see attached image).
Also the Bluetooth UI is completely different (see attached image).
Also a welcome change from the Blackstone is vibration feedback when using the on screen keyboard, and it also shows a button preview above the buttons when pressed (similar to the iPhone). Although this will be less useful since the device has a full QWERTY keyboard, but I'm assuming the Topaz (Diamond 2) has the same feature improvements, so it will be a welcome change for users of that device.

Could you load Skyfire and see how it performs? Someone else mentioned that Skyfire was slow and i got the feeling that he just didn't want to do it.
How is the redraw in Opera, and most importantly how is the battery life?
Great pics
Thanks!
What does it use for a notification light on the front? I can't really find one...
I wanna ask, is there a proximity sensor or no? Cuz when reading some specs, some say it does have one, some don't say anything. The HTC website doesn't mention anything either.. So?
The more pics I see of the it , the better it looks! Can't wait to get it in the States!

Can you clarify what you mean by redraw? Do you mean when you scroll around and have to wait for the page to be displayed in the newly visible area? As for battery life, no idea yet sorry. Havn't done much testing in that area.

There aew two LED's on the top of the unit on either side of the speaker. The one on the left seems to indicate charge with an orange LED and notifications with a flashing green LED. Not sure what the other LED does yet (See attached image).

I can confirm there is. If I make a call and hold the phone to my head, the screen dims, when I bring it back down it comes to life again. Pretty cool .
What I will add though it the CorePlayer movie speed seems to be a bit better than the Touch HD (well from my experience anyway). I have only tried one 350MB TV Episode so far, but it managed 90.34% in a benchmark with a framerate of 21.7. Although there wasnt a lot of 'action' in my test video so it might be worse with other videos.
3g?
does the phone have 3g but for the US, specifically AT&T??, ohh and nice phone can't wait to buy it.

This is probably the ambient light detector for automatic control of LCD brightness under varying light levels.
I haven't seen the keyboard quite that close up before. Looks like there are Caps and FN LEDs at the top.

There are two versions of the phone, one that supports 850MHz UMTS and one that does 900MHz UMTS.
My phone is the 900MHz version, which is what the networks in Australia use (EXCEPT for Telstra Next-G which is 850MHz in regional areas).
I 'THINK' the US uses the 850MHz UMTS band but since I don't live there, I can't really say for sure. But I do not know if the 850MHz version will be released at the same time.
would it be possible for you to take some pictures with the phone and some video so we can see the quality? Thanks!

Just got me new Desire

Hi
Just got me a refurbished Desire from 3 for a very decent price, so I never got the original box which means I have no way of knowing what type of screen I have
It has Android version 2.2 is that scone or custard slice? haha, so can I asume it will have a SLCD screen
also why does it have a purple tinge, I read that somewhere else and hoped mine wouldnt be like that, will need a cover that goes over the whole phone to be honest cos its not good for my street cred having a purple phone, haha
on the hunt for a decent theme to use, the live screens are great but will get bored of them sooner or later, ive seen some that change the look of all the icons, how do I get one of them installed?
any links for the push software so i can get an alert from facebook
thanks for your help

Easiest way to confirm what screen you have is turrn on your camera in a pitch black room. If its amoled the screen will stay pitch black on your phone, if its slcd you will easily notice any sort of light bleeding around the edge of the screen. I think I'm right in saying that?

This might seem Pedantic, but a well typed search on eBay (for me at least) found one or 2 where people have dropped their HD and now the screen broke or any number of issues. Maybe something you could work with?
Searches like "Desire HD SPARES"
or "Desire HD BROKEN" found a few butter-fingered users
I think you can buy camera from here:

SORRY GUYS the 8mp desire hd camera fitted perfect and soon as i open camera app blank black screen soo disappointing o well was worth a try
moving on ive managed to solder in some blue led bulbs in the bottom looks sick with a white housing just another mod to make the desire even cooler then what it already is
post up screen shoots soon thnx
Try one of the earlier ports of the DHD rom maybe? the ones where the camera wouldn't work, as it probably has the drivers needed for the DHD camera...which you've just installed

Just a few things...
Any rom works with NextG, you just won't get "unmetered" content due to the device id. I'm running Oxygen and it works fine with HSDPA on 850mhz. You only need to run a Telstra specific rom if you want to retain all the shortcuts to telstra services and access them "unmetered" which is useless since anything worth it, like FoxTel, you have to pay an extra subscription for anyway.
The camera is controlled by a combination of the kernel and radio firmware. Even if the DHD camera was backwards compatible (software-wise) you would still have to make modifications to make the higher settings available.
If your video recording doesn't even start then you need to update your radio firmware to a more recent one. The original radio that shipped with NextG phones (they're still shipping 2.1 as far as I know) did not allow the camera to work with 2.2+ roms.
Functional video recording has nothing to do with the SD card unless you're trying to record 720p content and the SDCard doesn't write fast enough. But it'll just "lag" in that case. Recording at a lower resolution will still work.

You'll find that the unmetered content has to do with the APN you use, and the browsers User Agent string. If you use the telstra.iph APN (no proxy details etc), and set your User Agent string correctly (cant recall the exact one required, but you can set it via the browsers debug menu), you can use any ROM you like and enjoy the unmetered content all the same
Worked perfectly fine with stock LeeDroid (not t-mod leedroid) and InsertCoin (Sense HD) roms

Guessing that eMMC was partitioned in MLC mode on this one.
So, the differences are: black housing, secondary mic, AMOLED screen, 4GB of internal memory. Anything else?
And that would be an even more awesome device if HTC released it without these changes.

It's not a ROM. Read the thread title.
It's a DUMP from the G2 PROTOTYPE.
It contains all partitions' dump, including HBoot (v.0.55.2000 ENG, never seen before), Radio, System and all the other things.
And BTW I downloaded it and everything's fine for me.
Copied this file to my Dropbox as a mirror.
@OP: Can you provide some more photos of the device (or maybe side-by-side ones that you've talked about on IRC)? I'm VERY interested in PCB photos, but if you don't want to disassemble the phone, it's up to you

Much of the dump is wasted space, and the 2 nandroids are pretty much copies of the dump, so compress to insignificant space.

I don't see what makes you sad here...
1) this prototype has amoled POS display. SLCD > amoled.
2) Slow performing 4GB internal storage vs FAST performing 2GB. I'll take the faster anyday, since the device supports external add-on.
3) If by "8mb" you mean "8 MP", I don't see anything indicating such.
4) Ugly painted black plain prototype. Easy to scratch off paint and would quickly look like junk. They paint prototypes like that to make them nondescript.
What we have is basically *superior* to this prototype. The next step up is the HTC DOUBLESHOT.

So, now thinking of the getting the M8 instead.
Can anyone please confirm that this is not a problem with the M8?

There is a pictures thread in the general forum. However, the short answer is no. The pictures look fine on the M8, they are just comparably (to other flagship phones) low resolution at 4Mpixels. If you can live with that, it actually takes very nice pictures - at least as good as my old 8Mpixel Galaxy S2.
