A question regarding another LG smartphone (the GM735) - eXpo GW820, GW825 IQ ROM Development

Hi all,
I am writing from Turkey, and my question is concerning an LG GSM smartphone called the GM735. There is a thread here on XDA about rom development for this device, but it has not really gotten along any distance so I thought I'd ask here. This device is shipped out with win 6.1, there is a similar (spec sheetwise identical) device called the GM730 that is sold in other markets and LG has just come out with a win 6.5 rom for those devices. I understand (from what I've read on a Turkish board) that the 6.1 roms for both the 730 and the 735 will work on each other but the 6.5 rom is not flashing correctly and in many instances it's just bricking the phone. What I am really curious about is if LG uses some sort of a device lock like SPL or something similar. Has anyone ran across anything like and SPL unlocker for the LGs?
Currently there is an Ukranian fellow who has somehow modified a 6.1 rom to include 6.5 interface (the rom says its 6.1 but the menu and all else is 6.5) but it is very immature and nonfunctional in many ways (ie no sound, no BT, no wi-fi, etc etc etc). So what I'm really hoping for is maybe some sort of an unlocker so that we can flash the LG released 730 win 6.5 rom on our 735s.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers.

yea id stick to the threads in the general section. or get enough people to vote for your own subforum. thats what we did.
p.s. ive searched all across these boards and not seen a SPL for any lg fone. i believe its a diff file structure than htc devices and doesnt require the same thing in order to flash.

WM2005 sucks?

Looks like wm2005 still not very stable, a lot of programs still not working.
For example, Xbackup, set as ringtone or Monster Chinese, etc.
well alot of programs required new versions when 2003SE came out as well

Using it on my Imate for a month or more and no problem so far and no lock-ups like there were on WM2003SE
I think the title of this thread is misleading... :?
The fact that it does not run several applications or crashes is because:
1.- This version is not final
2.- It's not compatible because of it's very nature, IT'S A NEW OS!!!
The same happened when we upgraded our PCs to Windows XP don't you remember?
New versions will start to come up eventually, and even if you don't see any advances "right-out-of-the-box" it's because the main improvements on this OS reside behind the scenes, so Programmers will start to develop new and exciting apps that take advantage of the new features and APIs.
For me Windows Mobile 5.0 has been very stable even with the very first version that Buzz, Toe and the gang which had very limited memory resources I had no stability problems whatsoever.
There are limitations of course, (like no MMS, mediocre video camera, sms problems, etc) but eventually Microsoft OR our very own developers will take care of that!
So, BE PATIENT!!!!!
Hi,
Using it for 3 days in my Qtek 2020 and no problem at all.
Even Jabra250 works fine, when in 2003SE was difficult to setup.
About software that don't work, we must wait until new versions come out...
I'm sure when you update you computer from NT to W2K you has software that didn't work and had to buy new versions, so why should be different here?
Be patient.... Mobile5 is ok for now.

i double that
Rayan & all the rest are right!!!
I can't agree less to what Rayan wrote.
It's a new OS and a beta for that matter (check out Goras thread on "WM2005 that I can share"), If I'm not mistaken it's not also intended for Himalaya, judging on the memory problems just solved(!) by Buzz, toenailed, XdaJojo, mamaich & all the other contributors as well.
Personally in my opinion its a lot 'solid' than the WM2003 & SE since it has to crash yet on my xda II, as mentioned by Rayan even the initial release of the OS with limited memory was stable.
The problems with the apps like backup & camera are being solved one-by-one, MMS which doesn't even start before is now working (check out the threads on WM2005 in the forum).
Even now, the benefits of using the OS in terms of performance, stability & looks far outweighs its limitations (in my humble opinion) just be patient & leave it to the WIZARDS (Buzz, toenailed, XdaJojo, etc. etc. etc).
Besides, hey ttseng this is the xda-developers forum & we all are having fun testing, tweaking, & breathing new life to our "soon to be outlawed" XDA II ....... if not for the WIZARDS in the forum !!!!! Notice the request for the OS on the other xda models, aren't we lucky we have the WiZARDS working on the HIMA?
Cheers!
works flawlessly on XDA2 Himalaya!!!!!!!!
best os and most stable one ive come across ,wm200se never really happy but this WM2005 is and has been stable without a single hard reset or rest since install.even self configured the o2email and hotmail!! took the o2 uk config & connections setup file from a XDA2s_1-12-178-WWE_UK_Extended_ Rom.
Is there more than one version of WM2005 kicking about?
I successfully installed WM2005 on my XDA II, but I couldn't get many 3rd party apps to install on it. So I was surprised to see screenshots with certain utilities running ok.
I was wondering if there is more than one version of it floating about on the net. The one I installed was found on these forums, but I have recently downloaded another off usenet.
They are both himalaya.
I am sure a non-beta copy will rear its head on here sooner rather than later (I hope!)
Cam
this version is in the ftp section ,the rom has a file name of
wm2k5_XDA2_HIMALAYA_O2_fullRAM.rar
Yep!
That's the one!
That would make both copies I have the same.
Is this a late BETA or even an RTM version?
Now that the OS has been officially released I am guessing it's a race for someone to post the released version ;-)
the official full version is released?
wow!
so when can we have it for download here?
i am planning to put off my upgrade till the full version comes out.
currently i am on the win2003se which i aint very happy with!
plz advise...
thanx everybody.
It out but you cant get it.
I have a friend who is a manger in Microsoft. I sent the MS link of the offical release and asked if it can be obtained from the internal web software store. At the moment it cant and I feel it will also never be the case (2003 the end user could never buy).
So we are back to the carriers and if they will ship 2005 as an upgrade for ood devices or only on new (MDA XDA IV).
Dont think one needs to be a rocket scintist to answer that, was not one of the devices never shipped with 2003, the way I remember it it was buz that did a Chines to English translation.
So at least w on the BA side have to wait untill something gets leaked.
A little help with WM2005 upgrade please!!!!!!!
I see that most people have upgraded to WM2005 without much trouble, but not me!! I am with o2 and I've just upgraded and I can't us GPRS (it keeps trying to dial 193.113.200.195 and then drops the conx even though the IP is entered in the APN section) I can't run Worldmate pro (not compatable), TOMTOM 3 (need to upgrade to ver 4.4) pick up email etc etc.
Could I have the details that you need to enter into your XDA to connect to o2 network via GPRS so that I can access hotmail, messenger, MMS, Internet etc etc
I hope you can help as I don't want to downgrade to the old windows version.
i can send u a O2 customisation cab file if u need ,however your phone must b on contract with O2UK not payg or orange etc..
Yes Please!!
That'll be great. yes I am with O2 contract.......

8125 htc upgrade for 8525

Is it possible to upgrade my 8125 ROM with the 8525 ROM from HTC. I know my phone doesnt have the PPT feature but I would like the other features offered.
Thanks
unlike pc's roms require all drives to be hardcoded into the rom
if one single driver is not 100% correct the device fail to boot and may become a brik
partly upgrades can be don by changing non core and driver part of the rom
if it's possible it will be a topic in the forum for your device
you will read about it
also 8125 & 8525 are not htc names and devices are sold as sooo many names so stating nr's that one reseller use is useless
and require people to look what those numbers to know what htc device people are asking about

New to the world of Hermes

as the title suggests i am very new to this world, and only was introduced to it by luck, and glad i was. Anyways just wanted to know where i could find the latest and greatest 3des.3.x for a dopod 838 pro
Also another question after some browsing it seems as though the black is the most popular, but why?? It seems to lack alot of applications in comparision to the 3des Hermes, is there any floors with the 3des hermes that i have not yet read?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
help needed
Ya i wish to find out more as well as i m using dopod 838pro, y is it after i update to the official rom of wm 6, my bluetooth can't receive file and what is the best and stable rom that you guys will recommend, pls help, i wish to enhance my hermes to top performance and what softwares is a must for it to be the best pda companion.
Welcome to a world of wonder boys. First thing that you will learn about this site is that it is large and complex and can be really daunting at first.
I recommend first starting here
And then try the guides from Mr. Vanx.
After that, just start plopping ROMs on your device and testing them out. You are bound to find one that is right for you. And if not, by the time you try four or five ROMs you will probably be ready to cook your own.
@2revup - many ROM flashers actually find that a ROM free of most software is better than a bloated ROM. It enables the user to keep most of the device's memory free to install programs of his/her choosing.
thanks for that larsuck i will do some more reading, looking forward to getting some nice ROMS

Best ROM for my axim x51v?

Not sure if ROM is the correct word for it, I'm pretty well versed in computers but have never tried any of this custom firmware stuff for my gadgets. I'm want to try something new, and was planning on doing a big hard reset anyways so I figured I might as well try something new. Currently my axim is on the A12 rom, which I believe was the last official rom from dell. (feel free to correct me here) Searching around I was led to this site, and there seem to be a few different options. From my little research I've found these three.
Footballs' A17 and his WM6 rom
Lenny's WM6 rom
I figure I might as well go for WM6 since its out now, but I don't know. I like Lenny's since it seems to come with a fair amount of included software. Football's on the other hand seems to be more popular. I would like to make sure of what I'm going to use before I go about messing with my axim.
I have few requirements, the major one being that I like to use ozvga to put my axim in "true" vga mode. Can anyone offer an guidance here? Searching through the threads just left me more confused.
You can't go wrong with Lenny's L11 WM6.1 ROM! It doesn't have ozvga bundled but you can load it yourself.
Go here to get it.
Makuu's ROM has VGA support built into it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439586
But personally I like Lenny's ROM better, and add the VGA support manually. See my sig below for the link.
Cheers
Mark
Thanks for the input, I think it's going to be Lenny's. My intent from the beginning was to add on the vga I just wasn't sure if it would support it, sorry for any confusion.
Forgot to add- Will my old programs still work?
If you want to use live msn in trueVga, mode, you must check with Markvan if his package are including the trueVga live msn dlls.
About your old programs, if some of them are using irda (like noviiremote), you have to choose one rom that has irda support.
Thanks for the input guys. Went ahead and installed Lenny's, flashing the memory turned out to be much easier than I thought. I love it, a big thanks to all you developers out there, breathed new life into my axim.
Is the LennySH version better than the Football one?
poinless thread
only way to find out whats best for you is to get flashing.
thank you

What's Most Like Tilt2?

Well, as usual, I can't think of a good way to search for this topic, so I apologize if this question has already been answered.
I'm finding that many Web sites for software developers and retailers ask you to choose your device to check for compatibility, but rarely do they list the Tilt2 as one of the choices? (Is it really that unpopular?)
I understand that the Tilt2 is a re-branded Touch Pro2, but it runs Windows Mobile 6.1 (unless it's been upgraded since its initial release), while the Tilt2 runs 6.5. Which popular phone would be the best one to choose in the absence of a Tilt2 choice? I'm sure some of you have encountered this situation; what did you do?
Thanks!

Just choose Touch Pro 2... Almost any aps that run on 6.1 run on 6.5

Agreed. Unless I'm being dumb, about the only incompatibility you're going to find with WinMo apps, with the exception of missing hardware, is screen resolution.
