I know, I know...another WP7 thread, anything in this one? - Windows Phone 7 General

http://www.coolsmartphone.com/news5648.html
This looks slightly more convincing than the other vids, any of our experts able to add anything or have I just been taken in again.

well no one had confirmed wither or not its real. it most people seem to think that its remote desktop to the emulator. they only way to disprove the emulator theory is if the hardware back button works

[REQ] Evo Bluetooth compatibility with PS3

I found a few old (and dead) threads on the subject, but I wanted to start a new one now that there are a lot more Evo owners out there who may help keep this going. Feel free to bump this and maybe we can get some support from the devs by demonstrating this will be worth their while.
I have read that the phone was not loaded with a proper Bluetooth stack making the Evo incompatible with several Bluetooth devices out there; the PS3 being one of them. I don't know how accurate that is, or if there are more underlying issues which prevent my requests from being plausible. With that said, here is a list of things I would be interested in:
1) Instead of paying $20 for the Blu-Ray remote for the PS3, I'd rather pay for an app that can control the basic functions of the PS3's media player. Me, personally, I don't like using the PS3 controller for video playback AT ALL. Also, it'd be one less remote to have in the house if I can use my phone instead of Sony's remote.
2) Use my phone as a headset. I cannot stand having an earpiece or headphones on for longer than a few minutes. If I could just pair my phone to the PS3 with a speaker phone option during online gaming, that would be LOVELY.
3) The most obvious one is being able to use the phone as a keyboard instead of buying the keypad that attaches to the PS3 controller. I do have the keypad, but I would put it on eBay in a split second if I were able to do it with my phone.
I'm sure there are some other things people have thought of that would be handy. Feel free to PM me anything else you may want to be able to do and I will gladly add it to the OP. Hopefully there are enough people out there interested in this so as to warrant the devs taking the time to figure this out. Honestly, I do not have the time to maintain a bounty thread, and it is not my intention to start one. However, I will say that I will make a $50 donation to anyone who can get this to work, as that is how much the Blu-Ray remote and keypad cost me on eBay. I am confident that I will not be the only one who donates, but again, this is not a bounty thread and will not be treated as such. If you say you will donate and one of the devs comes through, please keep your word and make your donation.
Mods: My apologies if anything I posted here is outside of the guidelines of this forum; feel free to call me out on any changes I should make.
Thanks in advance to all the devs, mods and forum members for your support on this.
sounds like a good idea, but also sounds far away from become a reality

Our phones can already work as remotes for certain applications, which leads me to believe it can be done by someone with the knowledge and (more importantly) the drive. With apps like Gmote 2.0 already on the market, I don't see why not. I have a Samsung Bluetooth ear piece that pairs to my PS3, and it is 2-3 years old, at least. Why can't the phone do it?
Maybe an app isn't even necessary. Maybe it can be a flashable file that just adds Bluetooth info to whatever is on the phone.
I'm pretty sure this is possible. +1
Devs will correct me if I am wrong.
I love this idea. Id throw in 20 if its workable.
And another twenty if I could use my phone as a tv remote.

Well, now that a root method was found for Evoers with 2.2, maybe this thread will be more successful.
almost over a year old. Ill throw 10$ into a pool to get this working.

Anyone managed to try C#SQLite on a real phone?

I know that there probably is at least a few people here that is lucky enough to have a developer device.
And as you might have seen there is a Proof of Concept port of SQLite, but it preforms extremely bad in the emulator, so I wonder if anyone have tried or could try to run this in a real device.

Read the whole blog. You will find also an updated version that performs better and also you will see some results on a real device. Send me an email if you want further details

WP7 on a Samsung i890 Omnia HD (Youtube vid)

Hi All,
Just searching Youtube for WP7 vids posted today and I stumbled across this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH1AvnhqMPc
I can't remember whether this handset was WM originally or if this was the Symbain one but it's an interesting video.
Is this new news, or have I found an old vid?
DC
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH1AvnhqMPc
It depends, if this is the result of an actual port then this is news. We all know Microsoft has used the Samunsung Omnia HD as a prototype device to test WP7 on so if the video shows one of those devices, it isn't news.
The date of the vid says it's posted today so it would be weird that this is one of those prototype phones.
Good point about these being used a Microsoft prototypes. I'll assume that this is one of those rather than a port. I'm still at work, so I've only looked at teh vid without sound. There may be some sort of audio commentary on there, I won't know until I watch the vid at home.

No audio and I'm afraid it's one of those prototype devices cause it has a Windows button at the bottom.
well if someone finds a leak of that, it could be really cool!
Am I the only one noticing that the device has the 3 standard WP7 buttons?
Isn't that one of the early demo devices?

no you're not, fact is: if that's really a omnia HD with just different buttons, a leak of that could be used on an actual omnia HD, making it a great device even if with symbian is a ****ty one
Moving to General. PLEASE stop posting things that don't contribute to the development of WP7.
Thanks,
~~Tito~~
Well maybe this means that wp7 can be ported to similar devices.
Also, the i8910 is supposed to have a 360x640 display, which would make porting much harder. Even if they would get the OS working (I still think it something fishy about that video), the Apps would probably not scale properly to the new resolution.

Interest in hacking the kin

I think that we really need to build some interest in hacking this kin phone. It appears that there are very few who post but there are a lot more viewing. I decided to create this poll so that maybe we can show it to some skilled mobile hackers letting them know that this phone is not dead and has amazing potential. I encourage everyone who reads this to vote in the poll. without every single person showing interest we may never get anywhere. So don't just read this but sign up and vote. Show your support!!! Lets generate some interest. Vote now and then go spread the word.
I'm interested in seeing the phone get hacked so that all its minor annoyances can be fixed but:
1. do not have the kin twom phone (eyeing to get one)
2. suck at programming
I tend not to post because I am letting the experts (who have the phone and skills to hack the phone) post their progress and such.
I been preying/stalking former Kin phone developers out on LinkedIn as johnkussack suggested but no one has replied back to add me as a contact so that I could send them private msgs asking for their help.
Maybe if we could also start calling Microsoft/Sharp/Verizon. If we have enough interest maybe we could persuade them. Maybe one of us could just get lucky with talking to a "certain" individual who is willing to give some information out. Someone mentioned on another post that Verizon was willing to give out the rom with permission from Sharp. It might also help to remember the person you talk to so that you can call them often and develop somewhat of a "friendship". Any convincing people here?
theres actually some good progress in ideas, but no progress in actually succsesfully hacking it. We just need time.

Time and Information to be exact.
I would love to see this thing hacked
It has such great hardware for (now a feature phone). 8mp camera, 720p video recording, 600mhz Tegra processor, 256mb of RAM, and 8 gb of storage. Those are low-end (atleast on the processor and ram side of things) smartphone specs. If someone got android or hacked the actual Kin OS, it would be amazing. Honestly, I have to wonder if Microsoft (since they gave up on the phone) would hand over any info on it. I highly doubt it but eh you never know.
10...
I think this is why we dont have any serious phone hackers helping out.

Has anyone tried this?
Hook up your kin and see if it is recognized by windows phone connector?
it can recognize zune HD so why not kin?
and if it doesnt recognize kin we could make a driver...
any thought?

If no one makes if for "fun", no one makes it for recognition, and if no one does for money, you are allowed to begin to suspect what the Kin status is.
Why would you want to hack the Kin2. this guy i work with has one. He absolutly hates it. I would have to agree with him. I tried to use it for a couple mins and gave up.

The reason we want to hack it is because the only that sucks about it is the OS. It has great hardware and could be an excellent feature phone if it were programmed better. Just one thought, look at the how smooth the interface and touch movement is in the zune portion of the phone. It is much smoother than the actual OS. Basically, Microsoft did a poor job with the OS and so the hardware is not being utilized to its full potential. That is why we are trying to optimize it.

Rumor: Future Microsoft OS to run phones, PCs, tablets, consoles

Hey guys, I just reported on a story that you may be interested in checking out. Very exciting news if it's true.
http://windowsphonedaily.blogspot.com/2011/07/rumor-future-microsoft-os-to-run-phones.html
Original source:
http://thisismynext.com/2011/07/14/microsoft-one-ecosystem-pcs-tablets-phones-tvs-windows-brand-over/
Here's the important part:
Turns out that almost exactly describes something we heard from a source the other day, and we’ve got some more details that point to a far more radical plan within Microsoft. What we’ve been told is that Microsoft is planning to somehow harmonize not only Windows for PCs and Windows Phone, but also the Xbox operating system sometime within the next four years — a timeframe that perfectly lines up with both the end of the Xbox 360′s 10-year lifecycle and the end of Windows 8′s expected three-year run. That would mean Microsoft’s next next OS will run on PCs, tablets, phones, and the next-gen Xbox when it hits sometime in 2015 / 2016. Yes, it sounds crazy, but it fits perfectly within the broad outlines Lees confirmed during his keynote yesterday. And that’s not even the wildest part.
Our sources also tell us that Microsoft is seriously considering ditching the “Windows” brand name in favor of something new when all this goes down. The idea is to rebrand this new super-OS with something that better fits with Redmond’s vision of the future. Obviously that could well change over the next few years as this plan takes shape — Steve Ballmer in particular has always been quite enamored with the Windows brand — but dropping the name is apparently at least on the table, and that’s a big step.

Interesting. Although many rumors say a new Xbox will be out before that time frame.
I love what Microsoft is planning! Too bad for me the one breaking that link would be the video game console. Xbox sucks. PS3 FTW! in everything else though, I'm a MS supporter, so lets do it big!
No surprise as quad core 2.5 GHz SoC's are right around the corner. Computer hardware isn't moving as fast as these mobile chipsets. In a matter of a few yrs, they're catching up. Plus they use far less power.
I think this makes total sense, and it was just a matter of time. The Windows 8 interface looks like the next level of computing. It doesn't make sense to have tool bars, and icons, and little notification things all over the place. And these tiles really are "windows", so it just reinforces their brand. Good stuff.
Back to video games, the transition to the next gen consoles will be interesting. Online play is SO huge now compared to what it was, how will they transition it all? I'm guessing that xbox live will stay as is, but 360 users won't be able to play with 720 users? But could probably still stay on the same friends list, join parties, etc. At least that woul make the most sense.
With all of Windows new announcements, the future of Windows is actually pretty exciting. [/nerdout]
Regardless of which console is better, being able to seamlessly move from phone to pc to tablet to xbox is going to be pretty good.
I'm curious why they haven't already. current hardware in phones are capable of 1080p output, recording, etc.
either there is a huge markup on pc's, or someone hasn't decided huge boxes full of unefficient parts is silly. think atrix like hardware... a quad core cpu in a phone sized pc... plug in a 500gb hdd, connect screen, bluetooth keyboard/mouse... viola
On the topic:
The idea of one OS for all sorts of devices is logical and consequent move following modern trends. I see no reason why products of one company should all have different interfaces. Super powerful phones will be able to run it without problems.
I will welcome this on two conditions:
1) Don't base the whole data communication on cloud only (like some parts of WP7 now)
2) Give us those sqared icons/hubs under start menu and keep the PC homescreen idea - with customizable looks and feel. I mean seeing those squares as a main screen on black background is depressive and claustrophobic experience, just like WP7.....

Possibly would be. We'd all have to see how the implementation works out though. As a general idea though, it's not a bad idea. It's something Bill Gates was pushing back before he retired. I believe that's why Live Mesh came out.
hurting sales ?
one of the reasons I think you'll never see this on windows, or apple:
4.5" screen phone/tab/whatever, quad core, dlna, huge 3000mah battery, here's the scenario....
make a phone call on it on the way home... unlock the house (bluetooth), walk in, toss it on the counter charger and shower. plop on the couch for some entertainment, fire up the bluetooth keyboard/mouse and dlna the phone (is phone accurate anymore?) to the big screeen on the wall.
rent a movie
email
google+ (facebook is dead, or will be in another week)
surf a little
make a LTE video call to mom (broadband cable just died too)
grab phone from charger and log you midnight run
possible ? yep, with todays hardware, less the quad core in the phone.
what's missing? sales. 3 of them:
pc
gamebox
tablet
the phone killed them all,and a one-os-for-all-devices idea killed them. mmm, maybe microsoft forgot about all those license sales too ?
thoughts ?

I don't see that as missing any sales. It's just that the sales will be structured differently. There will still be consoles, service and content providers, and other ways (possibly not even considered yet) to "network" the phone you describe.
Did the creation of satellite TV services kill cable? No, they adapted. Did Hulu kill either of those services? No. I don't see the scenario you described lessening sales in any respect. I just see smart businesses adapting to take advantage of it. The new Ford MyTouch system is a perfect example of that.
Well I can already send music via DLNA from my Phone to my TV using an LG E900 and an xbox 360 running Windows Media Center. I know that more and more TVs will be getting DLNA and LAN built in but at least for the time being I will always need some kind of set top box (in this case the xbox).
Anyway, I actually like the idea. This way you could write an app that will run on phones, tablets and maybe even the xbox using touchscreens and kinect, respectivly.
Dropping the "Windows" name: Windows is currently mostly known for Windows on the PC as a client and server OS. Windows Phone is not that popular and "Windows" is generally associated with not-so-hip concerning anything but PCs (phones, slates).
Hence, dropping the "windows" name might be a smart move because people might not buy "Windows" for their phone or living room.

You are wrong, this is a petty and childish response to a simple expression of opinion. Just because somebody expresses an opinion that you do not agree with does not entitle you to belittle that opinion. Especially when you resort to juvenile and homophobic insults to do so.
This thread is not about which consoles or social networks are better then the rest. If you wish to post please read the OP again and think about what your posting as any further derailment of this thread will result in its closure.
One more thing, guys, I know its a pain in the ass but if you see a thread heading in this direction then please drop one of the moderation team a PM, posting in thread is not the best way of getting our attention as we may not see it for some time. If you PM me for something like this however, I can usually get to it in a flash. (Unless Im asleep )
Carry on.... business as usual...

WOW INTERESTING!! my comments get deleted but the Xbox sucks PS3 FTW still stands? isn't that off topic too? such a comment opinion or not should not have a place in this thread. seems that the mods have some bias against Xbox too ¡increíble! I think this integration is a great idea and I certainly don't see Sony doing anything to combat this other than to create a music unlimited app for android (which isn't even owned by them).

I could edit his post so that it reads;
"I'm not a fan of Xbox, I prefer the PS3" but its would still be an expression of the samne opinion. One which is loosely within the topic of the thread.
I absolutely refuse to remove the comment altogether as it used to emphasise the fact that the user likes the idea in general however that part does not interest them.
The problems arise when someone decides to pick up on such a trivial detail and turn it into the focal point of the thread.
Either way, this discussion is over. The thread is back on topic.
And just fyi, there is no bias here, I absolutely could not care less about either Xbox or PS3. I'd much rather fire up the N64 and play through "The Ocarina Of Time"
All that aside, this discussion is over. The thread is back on topic.
Huh.
I'm surprised my comments didn't survive either.
Not a rumor. But confirmed.
Also this is off topic for this board. :|
