Question about upgrading - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so i made a two yr contract with sprint for the hero and then my step mom deiced to add out two bills which i think killed my contract since i now owe sprint 270(nice right?) and im pretty sure she has a contract but i don't know if this will affect me or not so im wondering if i will pay full or two year. also i have been paying insurance for my hero, will this decrease the price or what?

Can anyone confirm that the galaxy nexus works on sprint?

I'm sure most of us have seen the rumors floating around over the past few days of how a sprint rep said that the galaxy nexus can definitely be flashed for sprint.
Has anyone been successful with this yet? Or is there a sprint employee here that can confirm this?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I have read that article too.
It appears that it might be true. I know in the past this was never allowed. It is odd that after all this time they would allow it now. You would have thought they would have allowed the Verizon Iphone. I would personally confirm this myself before purchasing a Nexus though. Also, even if they do activate it I would assume your insurance would not work on a device they do not carry.
Give it a few days. I am sure someone will try it. We will no for sure soon. Personally, I think the rep got the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus confused.
It could probably be made to work for 3G only...which doesn't concern me at all since you have a better chance of finding me sober on a Friday night than you do of finding a 4G signal around here.
Now, as for activation there is a 99.9% chance that you cannot just call them up to take care of it. I doubt you could even have your buddy that works at Sprint take care of it. There is kinda this database...
...now, how could it be done? Likely in the same manner that things are "flashed" to Boost and Cricket and MetroPCS.
What does that entail? That's up to you to find out, but, I'll recommend you don't go about trying to find out on XDA. It is a legal grey area. As such it is not something XDA will allow. It's worth neither XDA's time nor money to debate it's legality.

That's what you have to do to get the phone on sprint. Unless you get a Rep to add the esn.

Ok, so like many of us here, I was also curious, so i chatted up one of their CSR's on the webchat. Here is our conversation.
http://gyazo.com/8c474fc6bf3e0346cd442e9e203136f1
For even further clarification I called my local sprint store, and They also said what the CSR I spoke with said, If sprint does not sell the phone, it cannot be activated on the network, and to exhaust the final line of questioning, I am presently on the line with Sprints Customer Care (corporate call center, not local store), for the final nail in the coffin. I will post back once I get off of the line with them.
Edit: Just got off the line with the corporate CSR, and they confirmed what the other 2 said.
So that is 3 out of 3 Sprint Reps, Local CSR, Phone CSR, Chat CSR, all saying no the Galaxy Nexus cannot be activated on Sprint's Network.
Which doesn't go to say that you could do so via "questionable" methods. But you can't just call them and say Here is my MEID DEC activate mah phone naow.
I answered this yesterday. I am betting the tech that goofed got the two nexus phones mixed up.

As a person who works in the training dept of a sprint Call center I can tell you for a fact that there is no way we can activate a Verizon ESN in our system. They just dont exist in our database. Any means of activating that phone on our systems is not thru any legitamate means.

You realize admitting to me you work in a sprint store makes you my enemy. You'd be surprised how many times a day a customer calls in and goes the sprint store promised me that you'd do "x" when in fact we cant. And next thing I know im on an escalation, telling the customer if a store promised you something to go back to the store getting yelled at by an idiot who has no concept of right or wrong who then asks to speak to my manager.

If you have not heard this enough already, it will not activate on Sprint because the ESN is not registered to the Sprint network. There is no legitimate way to make that happen either.
Besides, the GSII is a better phone right?

I also work in a preferred retailer. Im a tech. And i cant tell you how many dam customers i get say cc said i can come in and get a new phone. Theres more to do than that. We actually have interaction. From what ive seen and talked to my friends about you read off a script and only mess with your own device. so when you actually so called "get your hands dirty" and you know what half of the idiot customers lie. you know that i catch half of them lieing to me daily. Sprint/4G LTE/Philly

For anyone in the philadephia area who's been waiting for 4G LTE with sprint, looks like we will have to wait even longer.
My job has about 30+ phones with sprint so the manager here emailed our Specialist and this was emailed back to us today 12/5/12
Good Morning xx,
After doing my research, The only answer I received is that the Philly market will be getting 4g LTE coverage in the upcoming months.
There is not a definite date, however it is launching soon.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions.

Wow that is whack. I. September when I got the phone they told late November or December. Now it may be even longer... smh. 3g blows in this area.. might have to call to see if they can work something out. Paying extra $10 a month for premium data which sucks cause Theres no 4g.

2. Premium data fee has NOTHING to do with 4G, etc. Consider it your unlimited data surcharge.

It sure did when I bought my EVO 4G.
Damn, just got an S3 myself and was hoping their goal for having 4G in December would hold true.
Also the extra 10 dollars a month was definitely for 4g, remember this when I got my Shift.

The $10 "premium data" fee originally started rolling out on the NEWLY released 4G phones but Sprint was adamant that it was NOT a 4G fee. Those in the know at the time knew it would be rolled out to ALL smartphones after a time. (Which it is).
They will NOT waive this fee, however, they have been known to credit your accounts with "loyalty bonuses".
I to came from the OG EVo, then shift, then 3d joke phone, to this one.
Can't people see the sticky threads here??? Or the locked threads about LTE???

Correct. The $10 fee was originally for 4G, but after many complaints from customers who did not have 4G, they changed the terms of the fee to smartphone fee.

[Q] Contract terminated

So my Sprint contract got terminated for roaming. It will be effective next month.
I had really bad service where I lived. My signal would sometimes just go dead and would have no data just cellular and 3g 4g speeds were abysmal.. Trying to watch a youtube video or even load a gif HURT.
My question is while I go on about selling my GS3, what are my options for service? Can my phone go on a Sprint month to month service while I can jump ship?
Question for you, did Sprint charge you the ETF or anything like that, like was there any negatives other than service being cut?

Nope. The letter stated no ETF would be applied.
Really, I'm happy. Their service was unusable and I got tired of waiting on promises of better coverage. I think at this point in my area going with an unlocked Nexus 4 on TMobile prepaid is my answer ($50 a month unlimited everything. Speeds are terrific 16mbps+ in my apartment).
Just trying to figure out what can I do while I find a buyer for my phone and jump ship
You could flash to page plus in the mean time which uses Verizon's network. Or activate a cheap phone on your line right now and sell the gs3 now

I know T-Mo prepaid has a $30 unlimited Text and data(throttled after 5GB) with 100 minutes a month. Unless you need the unlimited minutes, I'd say the $30 would be a better deal.
As for selling the phone, I'd say try EBay and Craigslist.

I was looking at TMO before deciding to extend my contract with Sprint and upgrade to the SIII. TMO does have plans that are cheaper which doesn't allow tether (unless you add it on - $15.00/month) or more expensive plans that do allow tether but aren't unlimited. It's all a cluster.

I have been with T-Mobile for 10 years and I call the Loyalty Department for any issue I have...Their job is to keep you happy..I really don't think the amount of time you have spent with them determines how much they help you...So call customer care and ask to speak to the Loyalty Department they gave me the S4 for half the price with nothing down I'm sure there is something they can do for you.
T-mobile told me that I'll have to call Sprint and tell them I didn't want that number transferred and that I need a new number then when they change it I can get my tmobile account back. Will this really work?

Pay whatever T-Mo wants to charge you to undo this without complaint. Find something hard like an encyclopedia and swing it at your forehead. let it impact. Hard. Be thankful that it can be undone.

When you said half price, are you talking about half of $629, which is ~$315. If so, why? I've been a customer just as long. I would like to know what was the offer/promotion and the circumstance.

Ummm... the whole point of the $100 promotion Sprint is running is so you will switch over from your "T-Mo" service to Sprint's. Switching over means you will leave your old service behind and transfer your number to Sprint. I fail to see the problem here. If you didn't want to transfer your number, then you shouldn't be receiving the $100 off promotion. Why did you even leave that much in there? The only way I see is for T-Mobile to send you a check since everything on your account is paid for.
you went to sprint?
have fun with that.
i just came from them and i can defiantly tell you your not getting anything better. data speeds are so slow you will wish you were on dialup.
unless your in their lte area, but thats the only exception
I didn't start this thread over 27$ pay attention instead of trying to be smart nd funny.. and I didn't know it was going to port my number over. He didn't explain all of that.

What is the early termination fee if you have 4 lines, 2 of which have conctracts running this month and the other 2 after one year and you want to switch to the "no contract" plan tmo has introduced? Would tmo let you switch without any fees? How does it work?

I just came from VZW.. 2 lines... The only one paying my ETF is me, TMO isn't obligated to pay your ETF, nor should they be. ETF isn't part of plans, it's part of the customer agreement, and I read somewhere about that being a nono anyways of one carrier paying another carrier's fees. If they got caught doing that, they (or the employee doing it), could get into some serious trouble.
