Orange ROM to Stock ROM. - Desire General

hey, How do I flash the stock desire ROM onto an Orange device? as the Orange bloatware is absolutely rubbish.
Thanks.

Happens to me quite a lot!

careful! You don't want a McBrick.
Saying that my Orange Desire currently has the pay's ROM on it

Mega, a quick search will tell you everything you need to know. Create your Goldcard and flash a ROM, not much too it!
Jpcurrie, did you notice any improvment in battery life after getting rid of the Orange ROM?

Can you really brick when just flashing a generic ROM? I thought it was just when rooting.
I did actually find my battery life seems to have improved since flashing generic from Orange, but really that could be cos the battery has had a few good charges now and is reaching max capacity, or just cos I spend less time on the phone than I did in the first couple of days.

Hi, can anyone confirm that this method works for them? And that you can do it on an unrooted phone? I want to get rid of the Orange rom on my desire but as I run windows xp64 i cant get it to work as htcsync does not support xp64 and on a windows 7 machine i have i keep getting error 171. Cheers

Could someone please clarify something...
a) would flashing the generic HTC rom require me to root my phone?
b) If i donot have to root it...would i still be able to receive over the air updates of the OS? or that doesnt matter if your phone is rooted or not?
A little confused here....
Ive got my desire from orange!
Thanks!

If you don't touch the radio (which you can't without rooting) then it doesn't make any difference that it's simlocked.

Question RE: unroot

Hi
I had a t-mobile desire, i rooted with pauls instruction and zip.
I have a problem with sending mms to some phones and have read that an unroot will solve this
Question, if i unroot with generic HTC rom (1.15.405.4) will i then be able to download and install new roms that occasionally appear on the HTC site ?
i kinda think that might be possible because im gonna be unbranded ....right?
or am i all confused ?
anyone !?

Yes you will. The only way to rebrand your phone would be to install a T Mobile rom (Why you would do that is beyond me )

At a guess thats an Unbranded Desire
when it loads up do you get the HTC welcome screen or a T-Mobile/Orange/O2/etc screen??
I think it is unbranded, so that is good. But maybe you should wait for someone else to join into this discussion, because i'm not fully sure and don't want you to end up with a phone which is locked.

i don't wanna root my device....can i flash it with official RUU as said by Flaggie???
Just remember that with rooting you don't have any new languages, you still need to flash a custom rom. You could just first flash a generic rom (which you don't need to root for just connect your phone to your pc and run the .exe) from the xda website I mentioned before and see if you like the regular rom.

I tried to update firmware with generic ROM but got the error....
Can you help me with this please ???
Make sure your phone is in Bootloader,,, then into Recovery mode
The 170 error is normal. At this point your desire is in bootloader mode and you just need to reboot your pc and re run the RUU.
If tour trying to downgrade - I don't think you can without root. I tried last night and It fails. I'm on 1.21 but my phone is now network locked and as its only 2 weeks old the imei is not listed yet on any database to undo the network lock.

i have HTC Sync installed and all other thuings i had taken care while updating...no result

Once you download a ROM , you have a " new Operating system " ... EG: if you buy a cakes from Tescos then take it back to ASDA.. asda will tell you to bog off... same with the ROM's ...
Each ROM works with the updates from who ever created it ... (via rom manager is best )
if you try and update a " rom " that was not on your phone originally .. you could end in loop... HTC hell...
but once you do ... like a famous crisp manufacturer said .. you just cant stop !!!

Sorry but what a load of ****. If you root and end up in a boot loop, just bloody go back to the recovery, wipe and flash. If your phone really buggers up, you can use an ruu to get it back to stock and hopefully working again.
Also, rom manager is ****. It is buggy and doesn't work well with the desire. Your best off manually downloading the rom, putting it on your SD card and then flashing it in recovery.

Another Desire stucks on boot thread :(

Hey,
I've already read through similar threads.
But as my situation differs from the other threads, I've decided to open my own thread.
Situation
- My brothers Desire isn't rooted
- He alwaysupgraded OTA (Android 2.2 hbot 0.93)
- Today my brother asked me rooting his phone too
What we've done:
We followed that guide until step 13. In other words: Basically we've done nothing except installing a driver
However:
Since then my brothers Desire stucks on boot. It's even impossible to enter the recovery mode, he can only access his bootloader menue
He already tried to put it into the freezer - without success
Suggestions?
thx

Can you get into fastboot ? Back button (not volume down) + power button.
Hi Paul,
thx for your quick answer! Yes, I can get into fastboot
Cool. First of all we need to know if you phone was branded (it had a ROM made for a provider. Was you phone network locked or it had any logos ? Do you have any idea ?
You have to download one of these RUUs. After downloading start in fastboot and run the exe file.
Here is a tried solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14137822&postcount=9
Cool! So far the solution sounds pretty easy
As he bought the Desire with a contract, it's likely branded.

How do I bring back my Desire to work?

Hi
I´m in trouble with my Desire and need professional help.
It´s a (was a?) 093.0001 with root and s-off
I´ve installed Leedroid V3.07 (Gingerbread) incl. Custom HBoot for data++ and the Radio 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08
I´ve tried to flash it back to original by using the orig. 2.2 Stock Rom from HTC. As far as I know should this be enough to bring it back to original.
Now there is the following problem:
The update breaks with the message, I´ve got to use an other RUU. The phone hangs with a black screen and triangles in it.
I can not start it in BL mode. It hangs with a partition failure.
Is this a fullbrick or is there a way to fix it? Does the radio make this problems? How can i create a higher radio number to overflash it?
What woulda real specialist do now?
Thanks for help...

Hi Patrick,
This happens usually with branded phones. In this thread you'll have to find the appropriate RUU, the RUU designed for your phone's original carrier. Did you make a goldcard ?
No, I did not make a goldcard.
I thought, Goldcard is not longer needed, so I dind´t make one...
But I´m a step closer (or did I make a sep back?)
I had acces via fastboot and tried to flash an other stock ROM via fastbootcommander...
Now I have the old HBOOT 0.93.0001 and my old radio. I´n not root anymore, and s-on is now printed in the display - but the flash stops with an partition failure again...
Is the partition failure the point to search for branded roms?

No, I have no idea... bevore I start rooting i did not have seen any signs for a branding.
Mostly the desire shows an own startlogo from the carrier, isn´t it?
My problem is, the update is starting, but it aborts at ~50% with this failure...
All other updates won´t start, just this one RUU goes up to 50 percent...

Hey [email protected] . . 1st check if your pc is recognising your phone.
Connect to pc and check in device manager what is it showing.. should be adb or bootloader interface.. if not try to install adb driver...
than once its done.
try to run this RUU
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
basically error 131 is for CID.. so you will require a goldcard for that.. just try your luck .. remove both memory card and simcard.. and run the RUU..
Let us know the results
Allright everybody - It works! Feels like birthday @ christmas together, including a final blowjob and a cold beer togeter
What did I do? I´ve created a new goldcard on a second desire, used this card and started the final RUU again - That was all... Little think, big Impression
I thought all the time, the goldcard was specific for the telephone, but it was specially for the memory card.
Thanks a lot for all of your help! I know, there were many help for this stupid guy
But you all have saved the live of my desire... Thanks

I'm glad for you. This is how you learn, stupidity has nothing to do with it.
