Clockwork Mod Recovery issues - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, I can always get to it using the original method for gaining root but I've seen videos of people getting straight to it by applying the update.zip in regular recovery. When I apply update.zip, it does the same bull**** it did when I first did it. Then, I have to push ota.zip and all that nonsense. Any help is appreciated. I'm still very new to phone modding so I may have done something wrong. Otherwise, Slidemeroot2 is working great and the new radio is tits!

Q and A section man this has been answered and answered .. you need to downgrade to the eng rom if you want to get clockwork like that

Well, I did downgrade to the ENG rom. I checked the Q & A and didn't find what I was looking for. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know what I'm doing, yet. I came here to learn. Most people have been very helpful, in that regard.
I appreciate that seemingly dumb questions might be annoying but I can assure you that my intentions are to get caught up to speed and maybe even to help develop, not to **** in your corn flakes.
*edit* Oops! Had a nasty bit on my clip board! Not for you!

Get a SD card reader?
i don't have one, is there another procedure through the phone?
No need for card reader. I did it using the one in rom manager, but as you are not able to use this, i would go with the pushed recovery from the older rooting methods from modaco. You just enter the black recovery screen with the !
Then your insert the cable, and run a batch file on your computer. This recovery should have the ability to partitionate.
just search for the r5 root or pm me for link (cant post links as i'm a new user)
You must use the file called "recovery-windows.bat" or the one for your system.
but if you have clockwork installed, the black screen with <!> will not appear becaus clockwork recovery is loaded automaticly.
if i push the recovery from the r5-root img (while beeing in clockwork recovery) it seems like there are both recoverys running at the same time.
how can i uninstall clockwork recovery or block it from beeing autostarted ?
It doesn't. Normally it boots into normal recovery, and then you have to apply update.zip (which is Clockwork Recovery). THEN it boots into CMR.
ye it is because you have flashed the unrevoked permanent recovery. I prefer the fakeflash as it is easy to change and work just as well.
In that case if there is another easy method to format the sd other than using your computer. I have seen som suggestions on using the amonra recovery.. You could try that.
And i only think you can remove the permanent recovery by flashing stock ruu for now, but then you will have to reroot, as it also unroot the device.
pain in the arse isn't it.. I came across this exact dilemma today
hopefully the unrevoked guys will sense this and make some changes on their next release?
Ok managerd to do it by flashing the ROM
Thanks for your help guys

Root Help, please

alright, so i'm following this supposedly dummy proof guide and i'm still having issues. my tech level is somewhat high so i'm no tard nugget when it comes to these things.
i'm on step 32 here http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-evo-4g/99793-tutorial-idiot-proof-root-guide.html
i cannot get the update.zip to work. when getting to the recovery screen, i see the following
"E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command"
ignoring that and clicking "apply sdcard:update.zip"
i then get the following
"-- Instal from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted."
does anyone know what is going on and can possibly help me out? i've already un-mounted/re-mounted my SD card and tried all of those steps again and i'm still getting the same results. thank you!

is there a topic there or something i should be looking for? i've googled my exact problems, only to be directed here to xda to threads with different phones and no real fix to this issue. someone usually says "oh i tried it again and it worked", or "oh i re-did it all and it just worked".
i've already done all of that. so again, anyone...please

What's the name of the ROM you're trying to flash? Try selecting flash zip from SD card, then choose zip from SD card, then flash whichever ROM it is you're trying to flash. Make sure you wipe data and dalvik first.

i'm trying to flash a stock ROM, Supersonic_1.32.651.1_rooted.zip.
after re-doing everything, i went back to ROM manager and this time selecting "fix permissions" worked. i'm now trying to flash clockworkmod recovery and that's not working...so now i'm gonna try it manually again now that the permissions have been fixed supposedly.
the part in bold i didn't get at all lol
what do you mean by zip from SD card?
and yup, it's still not working. same error messages. why is rooting an Android so hard??? i haven't seen one guide that was all step by step ie 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 etc for first timers like myself. even the one i linked isn't a complete step by step.
when i get into recovery mode, this is what i see for options:
-reboot system now
-apply sdcard: update.zip
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition

Lol Okay, first off if you're using the apply update.zip feature in recovery, its not going to work unless the ROM you're trying to flash is named update.zip. when you go into recovery mode, what version recovery are you running? Is it the one with turquoise letters? Of it is then you're running Koush's clockwork recovery already and there is no need to flash. There should be some options, apply zip from SD card or something like that at the main screen in recovery mode. I'm not too sure, I use Amon RA's recovery. But after you select that you should be given a few options and one of them should choose zip from SD card.

That's the stock recovery. You haven't successfully flashed a custom recovery yet. Check this post in a sec for an edit, I have a tutorial that's skimmed down. You should be able to run through it quickly since you're almost done with the rooting process.
Okay, so I'm at work and I realize the info I've been giving you is riddled with grammatical errors and what-have-you, so just follow this guide from step 13 down.

the clockwork recovery did not work. i had to manually download that one. and it's called "update.zip". so this is why i'm trying to flash this. i have to flash this first in order to be able to flash other ROMs, or at least that was my understanding.
so, to recap, i tried to do "Flash Clockworkmod Recovery" in the ROM Manager and it kept giving me an error.
i started with unrevoked. it finishes, done, and i get rooted
then i downloaded ROM manager
tried to flash clockworkmod from ROM manager and it says "an error occured while flashing your recovery". no biggie
that's where the "update.zip" comes in. that is the same thing as the clockworkmod, except i'm manually downloading this on a computer and then loading it onto my phone.
then, reboot and go through the steps, and that's when i get the original errors posted in the OP.
edit: just saw your second post. thanks! that looks way freaking easier lol. i'll give it a try and report back. thanks again
after typing in "cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image" into the terminal emulator i get "No such file or directory"

if you dont have root yet, i just helped someone that pmd me about helping them root and with ota 4step root it took him about 7 mins and all we did was watch it work, and hes only had his evo for 1week and didnt actually know anything about rooting other than he wanted to flash my finisher rom. I was surprised how simple it really was. follow the easy directions HERE and youre golden lemme know how it goes. I suggest doing some research and deciding which rom you would like to use and then putting it on your sd root directory before you start. Also when it asks you what recovery image to flash i suggest amon-ra because it has NEVER failed me, even back to the hero. I have heard many complaints about the other. toasts is sweet too though. I am not ripping anyone since i cannot even make a recovery image, just letting you know what has been solid since day one for me.

Sweet as, man. So you actually did the process without a computer? Glad you found it helpful.
one more question. anyone know why google earth wouldn't be showing up in the market after root? using titanium and trying to restore, that's the only app that wouldn't restore, too.

Flashing Latest Radio and Wimax flash using Clockwork Recovery

I have searched and searched and still can not find the answer I'm looking for. This will be my first radio and wimax flash I have ever done. All of the tutorials and such I have found about flashing radios and ROMs deal with RA recovery. With clockwork Recovery do I need to flash the radio, wimax, and ROM using the apply update.zip, clockwork recovery doesn't have a flash from zip option.
I have been enjoying a full root for the last month and a half with no issues at all. That is why I am very particular in finding out the exact way to flash the new radio, etc using clockwork recovery. All of my research so far has given me the ability to root without a single issue. Thanks a lot for any help.
It all depends on what Rom your using. If your using the nightly roms by Cyanogen the FM radio will not work along with some other stuff. You need to take your time and read, read, read.... just like I did. People get pissed on here if you ask a question, and the answer is already posted some where. Go to the 4G Q&A section and just start looking around and reading !!!
Thats my point, I have been reading on here doing hours and hours of research. I could always install RA recovery and follow the info I have found on flashing with that recovery, but I am used to Clockwork Recovery. This is my first question I have asked on here in the month and a half that I have been researching on this site.
Clockwork is fine, its what I'm using too. What rom are you using? What is your question? Through a little info this way if you want a question answered! How to flash a radio file? What are you asking man?
yep, just need to know how to flash the radio and wimax files. I'm on the stock rooted rom from toasts method, and I use Clockwork recovery. I just needed to know which option I choose in recovery - apply update.zip, or install from sdcard. Or does it even make a difference? Thanks.
make sure the file is on the sd card. in clockwork, apply zip from sd card. find file and install. reboot after install.
easy as that
thanks for the help, my phone has been working perfect since the first time I rooted. I didn't want to make a mistake using the apply update.zip way of flashing. Thanks again.

[Q] Need an Update.zip

I have no idea how to troubleshoot my phone. I can only explain what happened. I did the unrevoked unlock and it worked. I started downloading roms and some worked until I ran into one that ruined my phone. My phone now only goes into recovery and the only thing I can flash is an "update.zip" I did try to search and If I didn't do it enough I apologize in advance. I am at my wits end and just need an update.zip that can get the phone at least functioning again please help.
Can you adb push things to your sd card?
You can always run an RUU and start over, I think you can run it from recovery. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
I know you're gonna hate hearing this but this is a great lesson learned on why you should nandroid.

I promise if I get back from this I will nandroid afterwards I'm just a noob and the unrevoked 1 click seemed easy enough. And flashing was a breeze until I flashed something that didn't agree with my evo. How do I run an RUU? I only have the option to flash an "update.zip" file.

Update.zip is a generic term for a rom. Just download any rom (I reccomend Ava froyo v7), rename it update.zip, push it to your sd, and flash it. If you need help on pushing, just ask.

[Q] How to get back to CWM?

To start, I've done as much research on-line as possible, but haven't found a solution that works. I have an INC from launch date, currently with MIUI 1.7.8.0 & radio 2.15.10.05.06.
Anyway, a while back I decided to try something other than CWM. So I installed RA-inc-1.8.1_getitnowmarketing as my recovery (from ROM Manager). Well, I've grown tired of MIUI, and want to try CM7 (which I've read needs CWM).
So, I've tried numerous times getting back to CWM, without any success. I tried installing CWM through Rom Manager; as a matter of fact, Rom Manager says that my current recovery is ClockworkMod 3.0.0.8. But every time I reboot into recovery, RA comes up.
All I'm looking for is a solution to actually remove RA from my phone and have CWM back, so I can finally install CM7. I hope someone can help guide me to a solution on here.
Thanks in advance!
Spin
Flashing CWM through Rom Manager didn't work for me either. You will need to find a CWM zip file (Google it!) & extract the folder & then put it on the root of your sd card. Install the update through bootloader. That worked for me so I hope it helps you.
go to dougpiston.com and look under inc.recoveries and you will find what you need. do not unzip (extract) the file just rename it PB31IMG.zip and put it on teh root of your sdcard and flash it under hboot.

Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!!
Seriously, I cannot thank you enough. I've been trying for over a week now, googling everything I could possibly imagine. I feel stupid for not being able to figure that out myself, but now all is good in the world, and I have CWM again!
Off to a party...and when I get home, I'll be ready to try out CM7!
Thanks, again kzoodroid (especially for the link, too)!
