Rooted, flashed recovery, nandroid backed up, now custom audio tones won't work - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I finally managed to root my Incredible (using the "click the sd card in and out" method), but now I've run in to an odd problem.
All of my customized ringtones, notification tones, and alarm tones no longer work. It's odd because if I fire up astro player and browse to them, they play just fine. However, they no longer play when I get a text message or a phone call, and they don't even show up in the list to select them anymore!
The only thing that I could guess is that it's a permission issue that may have been caused by the root or unrevoked recovery hack.
Does this look correct:
Code:
# ls -l /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
ls -l /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
----rwxr-x system sdcard_rw 422973 2010-05-24 11:23 Fifa_World_Cup_2010_Theme.mp3
----rwxr-x system sdcard_rw 460172 2010-05-24 11:21 Mario_Bros_Theme.mp3
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you resolve it?
EDIT: I've also tried moving the "ringtones" "notifications" and "alarms" folders to the root of the sdcard, but that didn't work either.

[Q] Where are ring tones and sound effects located?

Greetings folks,
I'm totally stoked with my G2, everything works 100% out the box, which is more than I can say for any of the three Vibrants I've had. There is one thing I miss though; The vibrant had a much better ringtones and sound effects than the G2. Where are these files located in the android system so I can copy the ones from the vibrant to the G2? Cheers for any help.
Dennis
Its in the settings and scroll to sound and that's were you will find it and you can add your own but it requires connection to a computer but its easy
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Put them on the sdcard. You can use the from there.
Is it in a subfolder or something? When I plug my vibrant in to my laptop I can browse folders on the phone, but I have yet to find a folder called "sounds" within the settings folder. I'm running Win7 64bit if this helps or hinders. Thanks.
I have all mines in an Audio folder then sub folder in that with notifications, ringtones, alarm.. and they get picked up in each individual setting I believe..

ah ok, got it. Is it the same for notifications too? all I did was open the file in music and used the set as ringtone. I didn't see it on the menu in settings... is there a different way to do so?
****EDIT**** Nevermind! I see it now! Thanks a lot! Hope others that feel as noobish as I did, and didn't want to ask can just read what just happened.
But where are the stock ringtones and sound effects located that come on the phone out the box? I want to copy those off of my vibrant onto my G2. If they're on the phone from the factory they must be somewhere-I just haven't been able to find them when I hook my phone up to my computer. Even in debug mode I can't locate them. I'm totally raising my hand as a noob here, so please forgive me if they're hidden right in front of my face.

You cant access them unless you have root access.
If you do.......they should be located in \system\media\audio\

Ahh. Right, well there it is. Its not rooted. At least it wasn't in front of my face. Cheers for the info.
Dennis
You can get to and view the folder via ADB without root. You can also use adb to copy the files to your PC even if you don't have root. You just can't copy them back.
Here is the location and the contents of the "Ringtones" folder. I was surprised to see that they were ogg files.

You can use OI File Manager to copy them also (the file manager that works/recommended with Dropbox) without having Root. I used that to see that there is no freaking lock sound file on the G2 under /system/media/audio/ui sigh...

[Q] Removing Ringtones

Does anyone know how to remove user ringtones after you added them through setting > sound > ringtone > add? I added some files and dont know how to get rid of them.
While we're on the topic, does anyone know the location of the system ringtones?
/system/media/audio/ringtones
/system/media/audio/notifications
Some other places some ringtone apps like to put ringtones at:
/sdcard/media/audio/notifications
/sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
/sdcard/music
/sdcard/Notifications
--
Ringtones within your system folder need you to be rooted to manually get rid of them.

Thanks, still cant figure out how to remove your own ringtones you've added through the settings though..
As stated above you will need to be rooted. Download Root Explorer and it will allow you to delete those ringtones....I've removed a bunch from mine including the annoying low battery noise.

i am rooted. i'm not talking about removing the stock ring tones. if you go to settings > sounds > device ringtone > add. then add your on song/mp3/whatever, you cant seem to remove it..
When I was trying out an app to create ringtones I notice that it would also allow me to delete ringtones so they don't show up in the device's list. The apps is "Ringtone Picker & Editor Pro". See if the works for you. Always good to backup those ringtone files, so that you will have them for later usage.
You can rename the files' extensions so they will not be recognized by the device as ringtones.

Stock Nexus Sounds(alarms, notifications, rings)

Does any one have any ideas of why if I have added these items in the correct location the would play on as the T-Mobile jingle in the ringtone directory of /system/media/sounds/ringtones. I am copying them in using ES file explorer, have root, and mounted the system as RW. Any help or other method to getting them added would be awesome. Thanks!

[Q] Lollipop still blocking writes to External-SDCard

I just uprgraded to the lollilop gpe OTA. Everything is working as normal, camera, Infrared, light, wifi, LTE radio, etc... I am also rooted.
However, ES File Explorer is still unable to modify the contents of the External-SDCard. I tried doing a simple copy operation from the internal-SDCard to the External-SDCard and there was a prompt that came up (looks like it is from android OS and not from the application) which asks me to select the "root folder" of the External-SDCard.
Following that prompt, I get to the screen where I should click on the "External SDCard" icon on the left of the screen, but the when I do that, the application named "Documents" reports that it has stopped and then it sends me back to the paused copy operation in ES File Explorer and then that operations fails...
Anyone have any clue if this is supposed to work straight out of the "box"? Or do I need to download kernel patches or go modify platform.xml again like in 4.4.4 GPE?
Thanks!

Thanks. Although the above says it resolves an issue with "The PC" not being able to see the sdcard, and my issue is with an android application (ES File Explorer) not being able to write to the sdcard, I still went ahead and ran the suggested command and although the command succeeded, the android application still can't write to the sdcard...
although it won't solve all your problems with writing to external SD card on the HTC One Lollipop, you can fix the crashing of the "Documents" app you described by making sure your micro SD card has a label (name): put the sd card in a sdcard reader in your PC/Laptop and give it a name.
Hi. Yes, you are correct I found out about the label being blank causing the crash and adding a label to the external sdcard partition fixed the crash in ES File Explorer. With the crash now gone i was able to grant ESFile Explorer write access to the entire external SDCard, and the app is now working flawlessly.
I also found this thread: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=67570#c4444
So, based on that thread's discussion, it looks like the app developers of any app that needs/wants write access to the external sdcard just need to change their applications to start using the new API, just like the ESFile Explorer guys did.
adb commands
Try running these adb commands one after the other
adb shell
su
restorecon -FR /data/media/0

Root Explorer

I'm rooted but for some reason every time I try to add notification sounds to system/product/media/audio/notifications using Root Explorer I get a failed to copy error.
Anyone found a way to do this?
I don't know if I'm missing something here but why don't you add it to the notification folder in your storage?

Facebook messenger for some reason doesn't see them in storage and I'm trying to add a custom notification for it.
Also I'm wondering why I'm not able to add to system folders.
I noticed this as well I was trying to change the bootanimation.zip out and that specific folder will not let me r/w,,but I am rooted and it works every place else?
I've tried three different root explorers, and the product folder will not mount.
I'll keep trying and update if I find something that works.
Options seem TWRP file manager when available or adb.

I am guessing it is a Magisk thing since there are reports of it having difficulties with some apps.

If I add them to the notification/storage folder they do show up in fb messenger. They are at the bottom of the list. Same here cannot mount that one folder with whatever app I use. I tried 17.3 and 17.4.

I figured out my issue why it was not showing up. I did not grant messenger rights to storage.
Still weird about not being able to mount that one folder.
It has nothing to do with Root Explorer.
I too wanted to change out bootanimation (it's blindingly white).
So I tried ADB and it just kinda said "no".
Code:
C:\android>adb shell

lol just noticed it's read only.
I forgot to set the r/w command and can't remember it.
Might also need to set to permissive.
But right now I've gotta go watch some NCAA.
---------- Post added at 02:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:50 PM ----------
I set it to permissive and tried both the old and newer rw commands but neither let me modify /system/product/media/ or /product/media/.
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /system
mount -o rw,remount /system
This is weird I have never seen a folder stay read only after being bootloader unlocked and rooted? Guess Google doesnt want us changing out that crazy white boot animation??
