Rescanning sd card for newly added music. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I did some searching on here and Google and I am coming up empty. I have added a bunch of new music to the sd card, but cannot get the media player to see it. Ive spent 3 days messing with this and I am just a bit frustrated.
Here is background.
I use both Fresh and DC roms. This issue is in both.
I have unmounted sd card
I have rebooted phone
I can access and play files using astro.
I have installed app after app that claim to refresh with no avail.
I have cleared the music play in app manager.
A wipe data is the only way to get this music to show. This now is my only option, but I nandroid back as I dont want to restart from scratch.
Does anyone have or know of a working way to refresh the damn library.

Market, "ScanMedia"

Used it and all it does is scan. Will not finish. It did add pictures to gallery, but nothing for the music. That was 8+ hours of scanning.

Sometimes it does that to me too... i fix that by opening HTC Music, going to the list of playlists (artists, albums, songs, whatever... i just happen to use playlists), then long press home button to switch to ScanMedia and initiate media scan.
Then switch back to HTC Music, and if you see a rotating animation (aka, loading animation) on top right - it worked. Give it few mins and it'll update your music library. Takes no more than 2 mins on my 16gb card

Sdrescan in market

Last night I pulled the whole music file off the sd card, cleared music player cache and verified that nothing showed up. This worked as music player could find nothing. I then replaced the entire 3.5gig music folder to the sd card and cleared cache. Rebooted phone and only 83 songs showed up in the player. (I have 800+ in the folder). Used SD rescan, Scanmedia, and music scanner apps. I now have 100 songs showing up and thats it. Why will Android NOT see all the music or at least display it all. If I copy the same folder to my fuze player, everything shows up. I even forced stop the DRM protection in case that was the hang up. My son confirmed that the same thing is happening on his hero. Am I SOL to expect this device to be used as a media hub?

I've been having this problem for awhile too. Always stuck at 100 songs. Subbed for possible solutions.

having problems with my sd card

im having problems with my music and pictures aren't being recognized for some reason, any suggestions.well im rooted using myn's rls 5, only thing i have done was i reflashed that was about a week ago about a week so i could remove a mod, it just happened 2 days ago but since then i havent done anything to it. when i go to the music application it says it no music on my sd card but when i go to file manager it shows it in their i can even play music through that but not in the normal music app.
It may just be the stock app lagging. For pictures, using quickpic is great, clean crisp, to the point. For music, you can try clearing the cache or re-installing the apk.
would you know i could find the apk for music

Teamchopsticks official JB cm10 sdcard media problem

I'm not sure when this started but my music will not show up on any music player, my pictures will not show in gallery. And when I opened the camera app it gave me an error saying there is no sd card present, that's how I setup the camera to store the pictures, but now I cannot even choose that setting because it does not show anymore in the settings.
The sdcard is perfectly fine, files are still there, there is no corruption or anything on it. If I go to a astro I noticed the sdcard is split into 2, sdcard0 and sdcard 1.my pictures and music are in sdcard1 and they are not beinge auto scanned by any players or picture viewers.
Is anyone else having this problem. I am on Telus s2.i have never had this problem the first time I flashed this rom. It's like it just randomly screwed up. Also the media files on sdcard shows up fine on music player and pic viewers. It's just the sdcard1 that's not being scanned.
I fixed the music and pictures not showing up,there was a .nomedia file in the sdcard,it must have been added on when i was excluding pics in Quickpic
But i still have the camera problem, not being able to save pictures on the sdcard, there is no option in the settings anymore..
I will be restoring back to cm9 as my phone have been shutting off randomly at least 6 times now in the past 3 hours

Media Scanning in Jellybean Roms

Since I have not posted enough times I couldn't post this in development section where it belongs. I have been trying to use Jellybean ROMs since they became available but always reverted back to Blazer ROM because of the media scanning bug. This is where media scanner fails to find any media on both SD cards, in other words gallery and the default music player fails to load any of the media. I tried everything that was suggested on these forums and could not figure it out. I found all .nomedia files and deleted them, updated rom manager, cleared the media cache, etc.
One of the solutions was to copy everything on the sd cards over to my computer, format the SD cards then copy everything back. This did not work the first time I did it. The second time I tried it I forgot to copy over my DCIM folder to the main SD card on my phone. I turned on my phone and after a reboot all of my media was there. I use Jetaudio for my music and I was finally able to to use it. I then realized that I had forgotten to copy my DCIM folder in particular the Camera folder with my more than 1,000 pictures and videos. I then went to check my media and it was still there but none of my new pictures where showing up. So I went into Apps settings and cleared my media, still nothing, so I rebooted. Now all of my media including my music in jetaudio was gone. So I went ahead and deleted my Camera folder with all my pictures, and all of my media came back after a reboot. To make a long story short something in my Camera folder was stopping the media scanner from functioning properly, I have yet to figure out what it is. But maybe with the help of some of the people here we can figure it out. I am currently happy having all of my music and none of my pictures. I can always look at them on my computer if I get nostalgic.
I am currently running Paranoid Android 2.16 and I think that the fact that Media Scanner is no longer stuck allows my phone to Sleep. I was previously loosing 10% battery life per hour getting about 5hrs battery with moderate to heavy use. I now get 10+ hours battery life with moderate to heavy use and loose about 1% per hour.
If anyone can make suggestions as to what files might be causing media scanner to hang. I would appreciate the feedback. It would be nice to have my pictures back on my phone but I can live without them.
By the way all new pictures i take show up just fine and cause no problems. I have also added new music and this shows up just fine as well.

Have you tried copying just the pictures in the DCIM folder to the Camera Folder and not the entire folder? Are there any weird files that are not pictures or videos in your DCIM folder? I'm on Paranoid Android 2.16 also but I haven't copied over any old pictures to my phone and have not experienced this issue myself. I did have an issue with my music files not showing up in my music players on my old Epic 4G (the one with the keyboard) and when I first transferred my music files onto my external SD card. Getting PowerAmp fixed that issue and I also a Rescan SD app occasionally if needed. I haven't really needed to use it after I got both my SD cards all setup on the phone. Maybe try using a Rescan SD app?

[Help] Xperia ion lt28h automatically stop when playing music or video

My Lt28h automatically stops music or video when I use Walkman or watch video, I tried TTpod and Realplayer but nothing changes, I have been using for 2 months, Ics 4.0.4, 6.1.E.3.7, not yet Root or Unlock boot loader.
thanks for reading!
I'm currently running XZXperience, but I have this problem anytime I use a version of Walkman that isn't the one that comes with the Stock ROM. If I'm on the stock ROM and flash nothing else but the Walkman app, I get the occasional cuts like you describe. Terribly irritating.
One of the times it crashed, I noticed it briefly flash something about being unable to read the next track, so lately I've been trying to troubleshoot from the perspective of a possible interface issue with the ext_card. I've wiped, formatted and restored data to my card, but that didn't help. I've tried various Cache size and method settings using 'Android Tuner', but nothing's worked.
I don't think it has anything to do with the size of the playlist, either, as I've tried a playlist of thousands and a playlist of six and have had sporadic drops with about the same frequency.
Any other thoughts or suggestions? Is there a way to go back to the 'older' version of Walkman, while keeping everything else?
(I also posted this issue in the XZXperience thread, but it's been almost two weeks and six pages with no reply.)
Clear cache of both applications and try reboots...hope it should fix the problem

After such a refresh, it gets a little farther along into a playlist, but still plops out after not too long, and will sometime crash right after selecting a playlist - not even playing a single note.
Like hulu8x, I've noticed the same issue on other media players too, like Amazon MP3, but Amazon MP3 works fine with Cloud Play, and TuneIn Radio and Music Unlimited work just fine.

Last night I did a wipe of the System and Cache partitions, Cleared the Dalvik and reinstalled the ROM. The first thing I tapped after it came back up was the walkman, and it instantly crashed twice before I was able to get far enough to play a song... Which crashed after a few seconds as well.

[Q] SD Card Woes

Hello everyone!
Last Christmas I got the 64gb SDXC Sandisk card which I have been looking forward to getting for quite some time.
I have a d2att running CM10.0 Stable so I quickly formatted that sucker to FAT32.
I put some of my HD videos on it and I was on my merry way.
A couple of days ago I was running low on internal storage, so I decided to move my music over to the roomy SD card. I took the SD card out of the phone and loaded it from my nicely tagged files from my external HD.
I put it back in the phone and it took a while for MediaScanner to do it's thing, understandable I just dropped around 10GB of music on top of it, no big deal.
After around 10-15 min of searching, the phone finally sped up and I fired up Google Music. What I found was half my music was tagged as "Unknown Artist" or not even showing up. Maybe one or two albums were working okay.
I was curious and tried multiple combinations of resetting the Media data and Google Music data in an attempt to get it to play nice.
No such luck however.
Out of curiosity I installed PowerAmp and had it scan my library, to my surprise all my music was properly tagged and sorted as it should after a long scanning session.
In addition to all of this every few start-ups I get the same lag from MediaScanner attempting to go through my SD card. It is very frustrating as I have to wait 10-15 min for my phone to be useful.
So overall I guess I'm really trying to find out why the MediaScanner lag is occurring here and there as well as to why it cannot find my music properly. Ideas or thoughts?
