Running out of space? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all,
I just got the "Desire" & I found that I am pretty much easy to get it "out of space".
For example if I want to install a prog / game which the "apk" is 12MB, I would need to have about 40MB free spaces in order to install it. Otherwise, it just keep asking me to uninstall something firstly...
Anything I could do about that? Please kindly advise.
Thank you!

Is it not possible to download an apk and somehow use adb to install it? I think that way is possible.
Eph.
Can you explain a bit more please
Go to the themes and apps section and find a thread which contains an apk. Dowbload Astro file manager then try and install it

[Q] HTC Desire - Market Problem

Hi All,
I would need your help in case of Market application.
I have following problem:
- I cannot start Market, because when I try it I receive a warning message: "The linked program is no longer installed on your phone". This message appeared suddenly for one day to the another. The icon and its name were changed on the screen (com.android....). I didn't modify anything, and for some days I haven't been on the Market... The system is original android 2.2, and it's not modified (ROM,etc.).
My question: What can be the reason of this problem? And how can I reinstall this application or what should I do with it?
Thanks for the feedback and the help in advance!
Uttika
Uninstall the market application under applications. Then download market and install it again:
New 3.0 market
Old 2.3.6 Market
It's your decision which you use.
Go for the new!!! Its much better
Thanx a lot Guys...

Awesome, mate, I was about to start a thread asking where I could find this!
Looks nice, but I'm terribly confused! I'll get used to it, though!
The only bad thing is that the new one is more graphics rich... so takes longer to load especially on data connection not wifi!!!

[Q] Android Market App in MIUI-AU and MIUI-XJ

Hi folks,
I am currently running MIUI-XJ D2EXT X-PART 1.9.23 ROM but having problems finding a couple of apps in the Android Market app on the phone. I could find them on market.android.com, and on Android Market apps in other ROMs, including MIUI-AU ROM. Two of such apps are: TradeDroid Pro, and Quick Quake Viewer. I live in Christchurch, New Zealand, a city still rocked regularly by aftershocks, hence the latter app I was told:
Miui au uses different market than the default installed here. Josh updates that or manage changes, even market default settings. You can grab those and use in this rom.

I am not knowledgable enough to know what exactly is different, what I should grab, and how to install them. Perhaps if someone can give me a hint and point me in the right direction I can look into it further. Pointing me to where the stuff is would be even more helpful
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Dany.
As a part of my free services, I offer you a report of wrongly created thread.
No need to thank me.
Should I be posting this question on the Desire Apps and Themes forum?
"Desire Android Development"...
The clues in the title. Try the Q&A thread.

What do you think, which is the best one to ask questions?
Don't ask him such difficult questions, his brain might explode in the process of resolving it.

Yeah... you definitely don't want that, especially since I won't be around to clean up afterwards...

If the Dev had changed the market app then it might be wise to install a vanilla market, ie the link in my description. Although if it had been changed then it could mean that the changed market only works on that ROM. Alternatively you could get an app called market enabler to help you out a bit. Can't you install apps from the website? Would be advisable to backup the current market app that you have.
And yes, wrong section. Please move mods, ooh wait, it will take a week fire that to happen.

Well, it seems I have posted in the wrong forum twice! Unbelievable...
I already tried Market Enabler but that didn't help. My problem is not installing apps from the market, but finding them there in the first place. The two examples I mentioned in my original post cannot be located under the MIUI-XJ ROM, but I can find them everywhere else, i.e. under MIUI-AU, other Sense ROMs, and the android.market.com. I haven't tried AOSP ROMs so far, or CM one.
I have been told that MIUI-AU ROM uses a different Market from MIUI-XJ. I am trying to ascertain what bits are exactly different, and where I can get the one used by MIUI-AU or other Sense ROMs.
I will try the one in your sig and see how that goes. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ok, I have copied the Market_3.1.5.apk file from your sig link to my sdcard, and installed it from there. Unfortunately it didn't help though - I still couldn't find the apps I mentioned earlier.
Am I correct in assuming the Market app is called Vending.apk in the /system/app folder? If so, can I just grab the one from MIUI-AU and copy it over the one I have in MIUI-XJ?
Cheers,
D.

[Q] Installed Facebook, now can't find it (?)

Hi!
m.facebook offered me to install Facebook app.
I have installed it, but it said that I have to install the signed version, so my phone stop asking for permissions. that also went well.
When I installed it, it offered me to start the app. It worked well.
Now I wanted to run the app again, but I cannot find it anywhere. It is not on the app list, it is not in program files, not listed on remove programs list, not on the storage card...
When I tried to install it again, it said that it is already installed...
What could I do more to find where it is?
Thank you in advance!
try with Facebook Tab v1.6 (+192xPatch) ~ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=651007
Thank you for your reply! I will try it.
But still I don't understand how is it possible that a program which worked normally when started first time cannot be found anywhere on the device?
It must be somewhere ?
Any similar experience with "invisible" installed program?
tnx
another idea would be to use XDA winmo facebook instead of the official app.
the official app is hardly more than the mobile version of the site with added image upload availability, while XDA winmo facebook is more similar to android's or ios's facebook app and can handle requests and places...
it can be found here:
http://code.google.com/p/xda-winmo-facebook/downloads/list
A good referrals Chef
Thanx for the answer!
You say "thanx for the answer", but you haven't had it! That official FB app is a Java app, and you will need to run the Java program, then select it from the list.
Cheers

cleantool s-on disable htc apps

sorry man, created new thread, found the tool also by myself, but thanks anyway.
Thank you.
And a bit more clarification: It's taking space from the internal memory but not the ram of the mob, and it can disable sense among other things to free up ram.
Bump.
Added proper file for WFS, see second post.
