Docking/Charging Station - Captivate Accessories

Probably too early to know, but I'm hoping there will be an upright docking/charging station but with the charging port on the top edge of the phone I don't know how this is possible.

hey, havent seen any yet but if you ever need a custom dock, i believe a guy here on xda made a few on his 3d printer n shipped em out. maybe if you ask nicely and offer him some funds....

a top edge charging port? Maybe it will be a sideways dock for movie viewing that you slide in from the side.

It seems that it's now available on the Samsung site. I would like to get this one.

Mang that's pretty nice. Little expensive though. I usually fork over the dough on accessories but lately changing phones alot. But might keep this one for awhile. I prob wait and see what else is goin ng to be out there. There will be more accessories out soon.

OOS though, and it seems expensive.
I'd like this for my nightstand though... Is there a way for the Captivate to automatically know it's connected and kick into some sort of "night time" mode that just shows me the time, mainly?

I believe there is an App for Android called night Clock (or something along those lines) Once the phone is plugged in to charge it shows a nice big clock and some alarm options.. its beautiful will be using it once i get my Captivate on Monday (god damn upgrade eligibility on 7/26)

Yea, pretty simple... I wonder if there's any downsides to leaving the Super AMOLED on all night though? I realize the black pixels would just get shut off but the red ones....
I'd also assume you can close out of that app as well (IE, if I plug it in the car...)

Do a search in the Market app for "Captivate" and you will see a Desk Dock app, and a Car Dock app specificially for the Captivate from Samsung. I'm guessing these have some special settings. I plan on getting the dock station as well.

Yea you can easily get out of the app with a touch or two.
As for leaving it on all night, i believe it will still behave normally and shut off the screen after X amount of time, but when you bring it back, it will be the night clock instead of the lock screen..

A buddy of mine bought the Droid X and a very similar dock. When he puts it in the dock it knows and put's it into a "Alarm Clock" mode. He didn't add an app or anything. Whatever it was came with the phone. I can't imagine it's a native Android feature. Will have to ask him to dig around a bit and figure out what it was.

when you fold the backflip that it looks like a clock the "sleep mode" gets activated and its actually a low power clock and alarm and can slideshow your photos
its the only thing i miss from the phone.
the only problem was that the capacitive buttons leds were linked to the display on so it was dim and then REALLY bright. but I got used it

Motorola includes Car Dock and Home Dock programs with the Droids. The docks have magnets in them, and the sensors in the Droids pick up on this and launch the appropriate Dock based on where the magnetic field is coming from (back of case or side of case).
Software wise, there's something VERY similar for the Captivate from Samsung. They don't appear to be using the magnetometer the same way a Motorola does, but you can fire them off like regular apps.
They're also not pre-installed for some reason. Go to the Market and search Captivate...you'll find 'em, and another bonus.

This is actually the Stock "Desk Clock" App that is on android 2.1..Samsung Removed that apk and installed their own clock app, which is why your phone doesnt do this.
I read that someone Removed the Samsung App and installed the Standard Clock.apk and it was working fine. However, the install was slightly complex (not for those who are familiar with Linux). You can search for that,
OR
you can wait for a nice and sexy Custom ROM to come out for the Captivate which will most likely remove TouchWiz, Samsung Apps, and ATT Crapware all in one swoop!

desktop cradle with extra battery slot anywhere??

Its a shame the aftermarket accessory people are so slow to release stuff for android phones..
has anyone been able to find a desktop cradle that charges the phone, and has an extra slot for a spare battery to charge?
Thanks so much!
I would love this too. I had an eris and took a seagate freeagent external hd desktop cradle and did a little work and made a desktop charger for the eris.
But eris used the mini usb...
Any kind of desktop cradle that is out there or I could hack apart with the same charging port?
these desktop cradles/charging stations used to be really common and all over the place, but, for the last couple of phones I have had, its been hard, if not impossible to find them..

best buy listed that the EVO docking station for the desk and car wont be out till the end of July .
yeah, and that doesnt even have a spare battery compartment!
hopefully, some one else will come out with one soon, cause they could sell tons of them!
I know I want really bad. I have an extra battery from my TP2. I had a charging cradle with an extra battery slot. I gave it to the guy who bought my phone. I almost kept it just for the extra battery slot part of it but then I sold my phone so I gave it away.

Seido has a charger that can charge one battery, then charge the battery in phone at same time. but its not a dock
I think I saw that a few days ago..problem is,the phone still lays on your desk, instead of sitting in a cradle, correct?
Does anyone know if someone makes one for an HTC hd2?
Isnt that the same size/config as the EVO?
Oh really! I saw where ebay had some batterty chargers that charge battery only but I wasn't sure how good they were. They plugged into the wall. But Seidio sounds good if it charges phone and extra battery together. So far I make sure my phone stays charged cause I really am hoping I don't ever have to change batteries. It's hard to get Seidio case off and it lifts up my screen protector a bit taking case off. I need a cradle that will charge phone with case on and have an extra battery slot that would be what I need. But Oh well. I have to get the car dock 1st.

I havent seen said charger, but wouldnt the kickstand suffice to keep the device from 'laying on your desk'?
Well, yes, in a way it would, although I would prefer the neat, all in one piece look of a cradle/charger together..
Plus, since you cant get your home screen to rotate to landscape, the phone would always look **** eyed if it was on its kickstand all the time

Ahh, thats right. I forgot Sense is dumb like that. I have been using LauncherPro Beta since I got my Evo. Actually rooted it yesterday and completely got rid of sense. My Evo seems even faster, plus I can go landscape. I keep my Evo propped on its kickstand all day at work. LauncherPro, and Swype I dont even have to pick my phone up to reply to texts and emails. It's awesome. I know its not a solution to your problem, but if you dont need sense, i'd say check out LauncherPro.
I kinda like all the visual crap that sense has, but I bet I will be rooting shortly.
is there a froyo rom available for the EVO yet?
Even though I always JB'd my iphones, I am not sure there is a compelling reason for me to root my evo, especially if I cant put Froyo on it; aside from being able to use landscape everywhere, and the slight speed increase, are there any other strong reasons to root the EVO at this point?
thanks!

There is a Froyo port, but its in progress. Not everything works, but toast is working on it. If you dont know who toast is He basically wrote 2.1 for the Hero from scratch, and had a fully relased stable version before Sprint did... Here is the Froyo thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=693992
Btw though, you dont have to root to use LauncherPro, just go grab it from the market. My main reason for rooting was to get rid of all the social networking and sprint crap that was added in. I hate that there apps always just open and run in the background on there own. Just like on my Hero, I had never ever once even thought of opening Sprint Nav, why would I i have google maps, and the mother effer was ALWAYS running in the back until i rooted and deleted it. I dont have a facebook, nor do I tweet so I dont need any of that stuff. Just a non sense free ROM. Pun slightly intended. Also, once rooted you can look into Over/Underclocking as well as Undervolting (Faster phone that uses less battery? Yes!) Not sure how you feel about themes, but once rooted you can theme almost every aspect of your devices interface. Ummm, lets see what else... Oh, WiFi Tether is a free app that does the same thing as the HotSpot feature, but again... it's for free.
Im not in anyway saying you have to root, or even that you should. My buddy has an Evo, and he is content with it the way it came from Sprint. I on the other hand am not. Sprint doesnt know what i want out of a phone. They are close, but I prefer my phone to be mine, ya know? Especially since I wasnt due for an upgrade and had to lay down $500 on this mother effer!
Anywho, enough of my ramblings, I have to finish my homework. Send me a pm if you have anymore questions. Take care broseph.
yeah, I kill all the sprint crap and everything else with ATK; I dont tweet much or FB either, so I just turn off their auto update crap and it doesnt bother me
It would be nice to have landscape all the time though, and I assume with launcher you can get that..I read about overclocking this thing, but, until I see that it actually works for a month or 2, I dont want to frick things up by messing with clock speed and such. This phone is so new, I dont think we really know what this hardware is all about yet.
500 is a tuff nut to swallow; i got mine at bb for 199 less all the points I turned in, so it was easy peasy for measy!
tanks for the info, bro; I'm sure we will be chatting in the future!
Man someone needs to hurry up and get on this, need a cardle ASAP, Half tempted to take my old hero cardle apart and Take a spare charger i have and with a little bit of modification make my very own.
Found one at www.seidioonline.com/product-p/crjhev4-bkc.htm called the innodock jr desktop cardle cheap too!! Not sure of the quality
only problem with that one is that it doesn't charge a spare battery..only does the phone

No it doesn't. There are no options available for the app to even allow this. Perhaps there is an app out there that allows you to open up a certain app when it's plugged in, just like how there is one to turn off wifi and such.

The best desk clock/alarm app I have found is Kaloer Clock: http://www.kaloer.com/kaloer-clock
Not only it looks better (IMO) than the Samsung desk app, but it is simpler and it can come on automatically when connected to power. Moreover, you can set it so it comes on automatically when powered only during certain hours.
And it's free
good find, I'm gonna try this bad boy out.

number one-- those are erector set pieces... way better than legos...
and where is the A/V cables that plug into your tv? (step your game up)

One thing about the pogo pins doesn't make sense to me. If the pins are on the same side as the power switch, how would you turn the phone on and off? Because of that, I think I might be better off getting a USB dock.

my S2 suffers very bad screen burn where the status bar is in portrait mode (visible only in landscape) - my question is wouldn't the same thing happen if the screen was to stay on at all times in clock mode?
IIRC there's some Settings for dock regarding auto screen off and such.

I know on my aftermarket dock, you can tap the upper side of the phone , which would be the left side up, and it will hit the power button to turn on the screen. Works pretty good.

Yeah, this concerns me too. I would never get a desktop dock for this reason. I like my pretty screen too much
However, I am anxiously looking for a car dock since that's not quite enough hours to cause burn-in

While the phone is in the dock the clock doesnt stay in one spot only. It bounces around on the screen in a random pattern (at least to me it looks like it doesnt have a pattern) in an attempt I guess that tries to prevent the screen burning. I was hoping that there was a way to make it so it doesnt bounce around but now that I think about it and this thread popped up its probably a good idea that it does that.
I sure wish aftermarket pogo pin docks would start being released already...$57 for the official one is too much IMO.

I Googled it for you, second link down, give it a go, it's really easy.
The first thing you’ll want to note is the dock will not work with the LTE version of the Galaxy Nexus, however, it will work with either the stock or the official extended battery for the GSM version of the phone, though the fit is noticeably more snug.
Thanks - I did look round before i posted the question
Verizon Pogo Pin Dock works with extended battery
I can affirm that the extended battery works with the pogo pin dock that is available on samsung's website. It's a bit of a hefty drop for $95 with tax and whatnot but it's well worth the money. also, it may be interesting to note that there is a bit of a 2-4 second delay sometimes for the phone to register that it has been placed in a dock. it goes straight to the clock when it has been docked.
Samsung website: (I would post the link but I can't because I haven't posted 10 times yet) -__-
NOTE: The model number of the dock that is compatible with the CDMA version is: EDD-D1F8BEBSTD
hope that helps!

$95 is a tough pill to swallow, but I'm thinking about it, because I will probably end up keeping this phone for the full two years of the contract I'm on.
Does the i515 dock work OK with the OEM extended battery?
And a couple questions I have about the phone's behavior in the dock that I haven't seen answered in any threads about the dock:
When docked, the phone is supposed to go into the landscape clock mode. Cool.
1. Does the normal screen timeout setting work? (does the screen turn off after x minutes?)
2. How do you turn the screen on and off manually? The volume buttons?

* Yes, clock mode or another app can take that over if you desire if the app supports it.
* Screen respects the normal timeout settings EXCEPT if the screen saver clock is on, then the screen never times out. To prevent the screen saver you need to use an alternative dock app as per my point above.
* Reactivate the screen by either modding for volume button wake or removing it from the dock and pressing the power button.
Samsung/Google didn't anticipate needing to use the power button (it's inaccessible) I suppose because the screen is never off with their default config... they just didn't consider alternative configs.
They should have included a 'wake/sleep' button on the actual dock.
DJ, Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, it seems that the dock was not very well thought out, and that its interaction with the phone was also not well thought out. It really disappoints me, as when I bought the GN back in December, the (potential) availability of a desk dock was one of the features I really wanted. I had a DX prior to the GN, and used the desk dock every night. My phone is my alarm clock. However, in that function, I need to be able to turn off the display and turn it back on easily.
It also seems the CDMA GN is kinda the 'bastard stepchild' of the family. The GSM version can get the dock on Play for $55. Us CDMA owners are stuck with getting it from Sammy directly for $90.
I've got a Nexus 7 on the way, and noticed that it also has pogo pins. Hopefully ASUS won't screw the pooch or fiddle around for more than 7 months on getting accessories out.
It just really seems to me that Sammy doesn't give a **** about the GN. They were like "here, Google, have fun, see ya later!"

The CDMA phone and the GSM phone are slightly different thickness wise.
I think the GSM dock can be 'massaged' (read: use a dremel on it!) to fit a CDMA phone.
The situation is still rather laughable, IMHO.
hi guys , I have a galaxy nexus desk dock ,but a question annoy me that the first option of dock setting(audio) is always grey and never active it when I put my phone on dock. In my nexus one dock you can active the first option of dock setting(audio) and then you can answer incoming calls and listen music transfering by buletooth t. In galaxy nexus dock what i have mentioned is impossible thing because you only listen music by line out . and why ?who know it please tell me ,thx.

So I honestly hope almost no one buys this thing so Samsung doesn't have these ridiculous delays in the future.

Id've held off on the Blurple had I known a Black or Silver were in the works, but the news came long after my 30 days were up.

Colours are just superficial problems and just an annoyance more than a problem, but not being able to get 32 or 64gb versions still after 3 months is inexcusable since Samsung stupidly didn't include moving Apps to external SD.
This is embarassing, even nokia gets the wireless charging earlier on the market.

These guys were supposed to release their product by Sept 1 as well, haven't seen anything.

Don't buy it. No case on the planet will work with it. I've had it for a week now.
If you don't want to use a case and buy this kit, Just go to the Verizon store and ask them to get it from the back.
Mine is sitting on my desk right now. Works perfectly. VZW is selling the LG charging pad on their website. I had to go to ebay for a couple of the wireless charging doors, but they work great. I have a pebble blue, so I affixed the white charging element to the back of my Defender and it works perfectly with the case on. I could not be happier with the convenience.

What do you exactly mean by wireless charging doors?

Just seen a video on YouTube with a wireless charger set up. Followed the link and they are excepting pre orders. $78.00 for the entire kit.

The wireless charging is built into the battery door. Verizon probably didn't have them instock so he bought them online.

I have a 32 gig version, verizon branding, bought it about 3 weeks ago...
I've never seen/used wireless charger and wondering how much output does it provide? The stock wall charger is not able charge the phone when the phone is being heavily used, such as video call (GTalk/Skype) over cell network and GPS active. What are the chances that the phone has to be totally idle and nothing running in the background for the wireless charger being able do it's job?
just seen one in china, will post photo's later on.
Base
input 19V--1A
output 5-1A
pad
input 5V-700mA

Color me intrigued... How much that run you?
Is it the full battery cover replacement or just the inductive pad itself to put under the stock cover? Looks like just the pad itself sitting on a charging station. Not that is mind that one bit so long as it didn't bulge the case much. Been tempted to buy the Verizon covers and peeling the pads off to do just that actually
I have the Verizon cover, on AT&T phone and it works great except for that the NFC does not work , there is an extra contact that is only available on the Verizon version not sure why that is
== Yea.. I tapped that!

They merely announced them, none of the new gear is actually available yet.
FOR REAL...... how hard is it if all the hackers on here have modified them and the damn factory can't? I have no desire to physically mod this phone, even though I've got a car in the garage with a ridiculous amount of work done to it - I like to mod things like this but I'm really hoping Samsung can figure this out soon so I don't have to resort to it!
