No it doesn't. There are no options available for the app to even allow this. Perhaps there is an app out there that allows you to open up a certain app when it's plugged in, just like how there is one to turn off wifi and such.

OP you definitely have a lot ot time on your hands
Nice job

Nice,, I am going to make me one of those.

HAHA. I have to LOL.
yea you do have a lot of time on your hands. hehehe
but good one.

I am poor college kid home for the summer who has given up on getting a summer job. so yes, I have a lot of free time haha.

The best desk clock/alarm app I have found is Kaloer Clock: http://www.kaloer.com/kaloer-clock
Not only it looks better (IMO) than the Samsung desk app, but it is simpler and it can come on automatically when connected to power. Moreover, you can set it so it comes on automatically when powered only during certain hours.
And it's free

good find, I'm gonna try this bad boy out.

there are two big problems with this docking station....
number one-- those are erector set pieces... way better than legos...
and where is the A/V cables that plug into your tv? (step your game up)
two thumbs up tho... ima make one outta fiberglass...

My 9 year old son made me a Lego desk cradle also, took him 10 minutes and mine had a Lego guy on top keeping an eye on things. I love it!

My DD had her legos out all week. I played with her, so the time I spent wasn't exactly wasted. Too, I was inspred by this thread (and the lack of available hardware).

went through some of my toys in the attic today and found the LEGOs so i said lets see how creative i can get lol i think i might super glue it all together though because if not im sure my cat will walk away with a little flag or something first pic was taken by my phone and because our cameras batteries were dead i took the second pic with my girls phone (Samsung Katalyst)

Docking/Charging Station

Probably too early to know, but I'm hoping there will be an upright docking/charging station but with the charging port on the top edge of the phone I don't know how this is possible.
hey, havent seen any yet but if you ever need a custom dock, i believe a guy here on xda made a few on his 3d printer n shipped em out. maybe if you ask nicely and offer him some funds....
a top edge charging port? Maybe it will be a sideways dock for movie viewing that you slide in from the side.

It seems that it's now available on the Samsung site. I would like to get this one.
Mang that's pretty nice. Little expensive though. I usually fork over the dough on accessories but lately changing phones alot. But might keep this one for awhile. I prob wait and see what else is goin ng to be out there. There will be more accessories out soon.

I'd like this for my nightstand though... Is there a way for the Captivate to automatically know it's connected and kick into some sort of "night time" mode that just shows me the time, mainly?

Yea, pretty simple... I wonder if there's any downsides to leaving the Super AMOLED on all night though? I realize the black pixels would just get shut off but the red ones....
I'd also assume you can close out of that app as well (IE, if I plug it in the car...)

Do a search in the Market app for "Captivate" and you will see a Desk Dock app, and a Car Dock app specificially for the Captivate from Samsung. I'm guessing these have some special settings. I plan on getting the dock station as well.

Yea you can easily get out of the app with a touch or two.
As for leaving it on all night, i believe it will still behave normally and shut off the screen after X amount of time, but when you bring it back, it will be the night clock instead of the lock screen..

A buddy of mine bought the Droid X and a very similar dock. When he puts it in the dock it knows and put's it into a "Alarm Clock" mode. He didn't add an app or anything. Whatever it was came with the phone. I can't imagine it's a native Android feature. Will have to ask him to dig around a bit and figure out what it was.

when you fold the backflip that it looks like a clock the "sleep mode" gets activated and its actually a low power clock and alarm and can slideshow your photos
its the only thing i miss from the phone.
the only problem was that the capacitive buttons leds were linked to the display on so it was dim and then REALLY bright. but I got used it

Motorola includes Car Dock and Home Dock programs with the Droids. The docks have magnets in them, and the sensors in the Droids pick up on this and launch the appropriate Dock based on where the magnetic field is coming from (back of case or side of case).
Software wise, there's something VERY similar for the Captivate from Samsung. They don't appear to be using the magnetometer the same way a Motorola does, but you can fire them off like regular apps.
They're also not pre-installed for some reason. Go to the Market and search Captivate...you'll find 'em, and another bonus.

This is actually the Stock "Desk Clock" App that is on android 2.1..Samsung Removed that apk and installed their own clock app, which is why your phone doesnt do this.
I read that someone Removed the Samsung App and installed the Standard Clock.apk and it was working fine. However, the install was slightly complex (not for those who are familiar with Linux). You can search for that,
OR
you can wait for a nice and sexy Custom ROM to come out for the Captivate which will most likely remove TouchWiz, Samsung Apps, and ATT Crapware all in one swoop!

Geez man that really sucks. Thanks for letting us know tho.
I think I might not be trying hard enough to make it fit, but it just seems like it doesn't want to go in.
Hello, everyone. I received this battery a couple days ago. The battery doesn't just slip right in, you have to push really hard. Overall, the extra sign is not as bad as i thought. It actually blend in with the phone. I was using it heavily for 14 hours straight, when the phone said i have 1% left. I thought that the phone would shut off but it keep on going for another 3 hours. It probably can go on but im afraid it might ran out while im on the road. I recharge it and will continue to monitor it. The only problem i see is the battery indicator is not accurate. I hope that it will calibrate itself in a few more power cycle.
You had to push hard? I pushed super hard and I was afraid of breaking the phone. I'll give it another shot though!

Yes, put the battery conductor side down first and push the rest of it down. It will work.
Sorry. I feel like an idiot for not being able to push a battery in. But when you put it in conductor side first, did the back of yours get stuck on the fingerprint scanner part?
I feel like I'm going to break the device if I push any harder.

Great minds think alike. I've just bought an a100 for the exact same purpose. I'm stuck on the problem of phone call integration. Since I cannot pair my tablet to my phone as a handsfree device, there is no way to interrupt my music with an incoming call or take the call over the car speakers and microphone.

wandered on to this thread, i have had my acer a100 installed in my dash for about 2 months now
(new registration to this site it wont allow me to link pictures or my build thread sorry)
I dont have a way to power on the tablet without taking the fascia off it rarely completely dies over night though. I have it set so that screen remains on when powered from stock settings and the car adapter is powered from the accessories position of the key switch sleep set to 15 seconds for when key is turned off. using car mode keeps the screen full illumination while in use.
originally I had used automateit app to do all this but then learned I didn't need it and have since used the above scenario.
Since going to Android for a head unit I can never go back to a "standard" car stereo

Proper way to put phone in and out of car dock?

Is there a video showing this? I have the gsm with original battery and there are marks on the car dock where the volume buttons are pushing against it when inserting. In going to break something eventually .
I have been putting pogo side first then snap in other.
When removing over just push from back and the top half comes out soil at once then I pull the rest out.
Thanks!

Thanks for the video. I guess I do it the same way. It still bothers me that marks are showing up on the volume side of the dock. Hopefully the next nexus will be out before this causes real damage to the phone lol.

SONY's Smart watch review with Xperia Ion.

so i decided y not buy the smart watch since i already have the headset pro to see how this comes in handy.
So first of the smart watch and head set pro do the same sh*t, only difference besides there looks is the watch has more apps.
Now even thou they do mostly the same thing. The watch does work good in most part's. Easily with phone outta sight ,you can check your message ,fb,tw,Google ect and even check weather and answer calls. Control music and volume. I find all of this to work out pretty well when all 3 devices are snyc, phone, watch, headset.
The bad and good.
The watch when not in use goes into sleep mode ,so in order to see the time you gotta double tab screen. But you can switch options to different watch looks to keep the screen on according to movement . Thats kool and all but can kill battery life quick. I have no problem tapping lol.
one Down Fall i notice .
Even thou i can read txt message, set up a reply option or call, i wish i can actually type and reply from the damn watch itself
Good example, Google maps for the watch is one of the best application on here, keyboard pops up, easy to use. Type in any location from the watch easy have a gps on my hand only if it talked. So they could have easily done this for texting.
Using all 3 device in public like on bus or at work, works out very well for me. Only time you gotta pull ur phone is when its time to reply to a text and its so anyyoing knowing this watch can do so much more.
Well am not done with this review ill be back with more so i hope this helps out anyone even if your not interested. It's always good to have information Laying around in case lol.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, LET ME KNOW.

Ditto. Not because of quality, but function versus dollars. However I know there's 3rd party mods/apps for the watch, I'd like to hear more on those in execution.
Maybe Spectre can chime in too with his review.

I really like the smart watch. I've used it numerous times to change ring volume to vibrate or silent, view text and emails without pulling my phone out. Its nice to be able to see whether an email it txt is important and needs a reply right away or not without getting your phone out.
Honestly you don't really think you would use it that much until you actually have it. My biggest complaint is that the watch screen isn't bright enough when in direct sunlight.
The google maps app is awesome. I haven't used a lot of the other third party apps.
I don't have a problem with how the phone functions as far as having to double tap the screen or push the side button to turn the screen on. Swiping is easy. The apps could use some more function like replies and stuff but honestly that's not really the idea behind it. Its quick access to view emails, txt, Facebook, twitter and other things without having to use the phone in hand and it does that real well.

I have one, and I find it to be very useful. My watch was a present. I thought it was going to be a useless gimmick, but now I can barely live without it.
On the way to work (on the bus), I usually have music playing. I can leave my phone in my pocket, and switch tracks easily. At home I often connect my phone to a dock for playing music. Again, I use my watch as a remote.
I prefer to have my phone on silent/vibrate, but I have missed calls because I do not always notice the vibration. With my watch, the watch vibrates on a call! I never miss calls now.
Having email alerts and SMS alerts is pretty handy. I have wired up my home alarm system to my home network - it sends emails when my alarm goes off. These come straight through to my watch now.
The screen is very good indoors. Outside, it is pretty hard to read in direct sunlight, and not great (but usable) in shade.
The UI is pretty poorly thought out. A back button would make life much easier. To go "back" on the watch, you need to do a pinch gesture. This is pretty hard on a tiny screen. A hardware back button could easily be located on the left side of the watch.
One puzzling thing is that the API does not allow 3rd party developers to add new watch faces. I would have thought this would be a big selling point. Writing a watch face as a complete 3rd party app does not work as well, as it tends to chew more battery and doesn't integrate with the other apps properly.
The connection to the charger is stupid, whoever thought of it should be ashamed. It is very finicky. I've found the best way to deal with it, is to wrap a rubber band around the watch and cable - otherwise it may stop charging (it sucks to have it go flat 30 minutes after getting to work).
The bluetooth connection uses v2, not v3 - so it uses more battery than it needs to. Having the watch at a distance from the phone will cause it to go through batteries a lot faster.
The watch itself is relatively tough, but the clip is not. I actually broke one of the little clips that hold the watch to the watch strap. Luckily for me, the guys at Sony Central in Brisbane had a watch that had a broken screen - so they helped me to transfer the clip from that watch onto mine (the alternative was to wait for 4 weeks for a warranty repair).
On the whole, I like the watch! It's not perfect, but it is very usable.
The good
Music control
Alerts
Vibrate on call
The bad
Clip is fragile
Charging connection sucks
Cannot add 3rd party watch faces
Screen sucks in sunlight

There is only one model of Smart Watch. Just buy one from Sony or eBay or Amazon or on polish site Allegro.pl

I found the new faces ok for a few minutes, but I keep going back to the large digital watch face. It is by far the most readable. This watch really needs more digital faces!
