Can it be unlocked to work in Gsm???? Cause i read that if you root it it can.

No, even if this were possible. There is no place to insert a SIM

Yes, 'cause apparently if you root anything CDMA, it automagically works with GSM.
Show us where you read it.

Like Alba said... even if you could get GSM software running on the Evo where in the heck would you put the sim card??
Sent from my Froyo Evo...

Ok, my bad, i understand.

It's an honest mistake. SIM slot issue aside, there are settings on the Evo to search for GSM. Maybe this doesn't mean there's an actual GSM radio in it, but it's still referenced, so some people with limited understanding of the difference may not know. No need to be jerks about it.

There is a gsm radio in the evo soc, just look at this link to the specs of the soc http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=cpu&id=a8650&c=qualcomm_snapdragon_qsd8650. But don't go thinking that you can connect to any gsm network, cause you can't no software stack for gsm.

a few questions

1- why is this bigger. the only difference between this and the hd2 is the supported 3g bands
2- will it work on in my country? we use 2100/900mhz here for the 3g bands but i saw some people people use the 3g on a US-Tmo g1 (2100/1700) work fine. can i assume that this will safly work here. the HD2 is much more expensive here.
3-why is this getting a seporate forum? why not just be a subforum of the htc leo
4- why does this need a different hspl? also will normal cooked work on this?
3. Probably because it isn't a HD2? Sure it looks pretty much the same, but besides that, they aren't really the same at all...
opps.. talk about getting confused and posting in the wrong forum
would a mod please delete this thread. i was confusing this with the tmobile hd2

EVO is on Sprint, not VZW. Seeing as VZW does not have or do WiMax then 4G is a no go.
Can the EVO *theoretically* work on VZW for 1xrtt voice/data and EVDO 3G data seeing as it is a CDMA phone and Sprint and VZW use the same CDMA bands? Theoretically, maybe, but not gonna happen anytime soon.

Sprint Evo convert to windows 6.5 HOW?????

Does anyone know how to convert a android Sprint evo ( HD2 ) to windows 6.5?
Has it been done?
All my software is windows based and I want to upgrade to HD2.
If someone can give me some direction and it has been done that would be nice. I have changed roms on my phone before but never PLATFORMS....
Can it be done?
Or do i need to buy a HD2 windows from Tmobile and unlock it?
Thanks for all the help
Chris
Step 1. Go to the Q&A board.
Step 2. Get a T-Mobile HD2.
You now have Windows Mobile 6.5!
First off.. WHY? for the love of Christ, WHY?
There is a reason why we love the Android OS, and having you come in here like that is like sitting in the wrong bleachers at a football came.. make sure you were a helmet and some pads, cuz its gonna be a beating. hehe
Im not be harsh.. I was trying to be funny..
hasnt been highly doubt it will be done
tmobile hd2 wont work on sprint

I understand that
But I have sprint and TMOBILE SUCKS in my area
First....winmo 6.5 is dead
Second....if anything like this were to ever be done, it would be win phone 7, not winmo 6.5
third....HD2 is GSM (sim card)based and will never work on Sprints CDMA (non sim card) network
seriously, give Android a try.......I guarantee you wont be sorry
What software issues are you having? There is basically an Android version out of anything you could find on WinMo, and quite honestly it probably works better in Android.
WinMo 6 is how many years old now? You should definitely give Android a shot, as long as you download the right apps, you shouldn't have a compatibility issue.
Hopefully windows Phone 7 will be ported over to the Evo that would be sweet. I'm an Ex windows phone guy myself and will probably be going back once a device with nice specs catches me eye. So a port to play with will enjoying some android would be nice

but will hd2 gsm work on sprint? or it will work only outside of the USA?
step 1, buy an HD2

No, GSM definitely wont work on Sprint. Your TP2 only has a sim card for roaming purposes only. The HD2 has no CDMA (Sprint) compatibility.

No... The HD2 will NOT work on Sprint! There will NEVER be a port of Windows 6.5 on the EVO; there would be Windows Phone 7 if anything. If you have AT&T coverage in your area you can always get an UNLOCKED HD2 and use it on AT&T. I did this for a short time and it worked great. If you want 3G coverage on AT&T's 850mhz band you can get a TELSTRA version of the HD2 off ebay that will work on 3G ("i did this").

Phone on different network

I have the nexus, obviously, and would like to know if I can use the Verizon version on a different network

Nope. CDMA phones are locked and there's no good way to unlock them.

Nope. If you buy the Verizon one you're stuck. Theres a small glimmer of hope that you could reflash it to another regional CDMA carrier, but even that's a long-shot.

short answer, no
long answer, yes
Anything can be done with enough will power. But practically speaking, no you cant.
I know a guy who got his CDMA EVO 3D working on ATT's GSM network. And I flashed my Sprint only EVO 3D to connect to Verizon. So yes these things are possible, but I wouldnt bother if I were you. If you want to use your VZW Nexus on a GSM network, then why didnt you just get a contract and GSM phone on whichever Network you wanted? If you want to flash to Sprint, Why? Verizon is much better, I just came from Sprint so believe me when I say Sprint has some ****ty service right now. Too many upgrades going on.

Unlock to Verizon will 4G work?

My friend unlocked his but were he lives there is no 4g, were I live there is will it work? Verizon 4G lte
Nope. We are a GSM carrier, while Verizon is CDMA. Two very different technologies.

You're not going to be even able to use the phone on verizon unless you open it up, and replace some circuits on the inside... then the firmware.. sounds like a fun project if you are into that.
Tell your friend he is going to have to suck it up or buy a new phone.
No, We already got it working for 3G. We took the sim card out of his Droid 3 Global while I was on vacation and put it in an unlocked Samsung Galaxy, worked fine. I am back in arizona and we have 4g here (were he lives they do not) and I just bought another sgs2 and when I take the sim out of my Droid 3 global will it work 4g aslong as 3g? I know it works for 3g

Fag? Look it up, NO TMOBILE PHONE WILL WORK ON VERIZONS NETWORK. Bottom line, you did not put a verizon sim card in the T989 and get 3g. There are more then one Samsung Galaxy S2. .

maybe he means the sprint galaxy s2??? that might be possible? who knows lol
So after looking around, you might be able to do it.
Just try it because apparently you have everything you need on hand.
But you will not be able to make calls from it.
I suppose that means you got a mini ipad or something.
You'll get 3G at max, probably edge since t-mobile uses HPSA+ instead of LTE bands.
There are so many Samsung Galaxy phones it is easy to get mixed up. Im just letting them know that Tmobile phones CANT work on Verizon, completely different technologies used.

[Q] GN LTE on T-Mobile?

Now that T-Mobile is actually going to 4G LTE, will the Verizon GNex work on their network?

CDMA is required for voice calling and it will be a different frequency.

no, you referenced CDMA phones which are in no way GSM.
besides, the GSM nexus doesnt have a LTE chip so the answer is still no.

then you made some snide little comment but realized you were wrong and i answered correctly, so you edited what you wrote. oops?

Actually, I did read, I simply posted the CDMA instead of GSM, an honest typo. As soon as I realized what I did, yes I did change my reply. Then you answered saying that what I said I meant was wrong... how you know what's going on in my brain is beyond me, but your dickish replies aren't helping. All you had to do is say "no, the GSM phone doesn't have an LTE chip" and it's done. Instead you decide to be a smartass in your posts and get me riled up. So how about you take your own advice and also back off.
How about you stop posting questions and find answers by searching?

Funny you should mention that since I did and this thread came up.
If you tape a VZW Gnex and a GSM Gnex back to back, then you can have both GSM & LTE.
You just went full stupid, never go full stupid.
