[Q] GN LTE on T-Mobile? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Now that T-Mobile is actually going to 4G LTE, will the Verizon GNex work on their network?

no.
CDMA is required for voice calling and it will be a different frequency.

Any ideas on whether the CDMA GNex phones will work on Tmo's LTE network? I'm visiting Vegas next week and kind of hoping I can test the network.

I mean the GSM phones that work on Tmobile, whether they will work on Tmo's LTE network.

no, you referenced CDMA phones which are in no way GSM.
besides, the GSM nexus doesnt have a LTE chip so the answer is still no.

I know what I referenced, my previous post was me saying that I meant to say GSM not CDMA, so why be a ****? Just answer the question.
No LTE chip, got it, that's all you had to reply with.

considering i read your reply before you edited it, you clearly need to back off.
you asked the same question as the OP so i replied with you didnt read, which is true.
then you made some snide little comment but realized you were wrong and i answered correctly, so you edited what you wrote. oops?

Actually, I did read, I simply posted the CDMA instead of GSM, an honest typo. As soon as I realized what I did, yes I did change my reply. Then you answered saying that what I said I meant was wrong... how you know what's going on in my brain is beyond me, but your dickish replies aren't helping. All you had to do is say "no, the GSM phone doesn't have an LTE chip" and it's done. Instead you decide to be a smartass in your posts and get me riled up. So how about you take your own advice and also back off.

How about you stop posting questions and find answers by searching?

Funny you should mention that since I did and this thread came up.

If you tape a VZW Gnex and a GSM Gnex back to back, then you can have both GSM & LTE.

You just went full stupid, never go full stupid.

Can it be unlocked to work in Gsm???? Cause i read that if you root it it can.
No, even if this were possible. There is no place to insert a SIM

Yes, 'cause apparently if you root anything CDMA, it automagically works with GSM.
Show us where you read it.
Like Alba said... even if you could get GSM software running on the Evo where in the heck would you put the sim card??

It's an honest mistake. SIM slot issue aside, there are settings on the Evo to search for GSM. Maybe this doesn't mean there's an actual GSM radio in it, but it's still referenced, so some people with limited understanding of the difference may not know. No need to be jerks about it.
There is a gsm radio in the evo soc, just look at this link to the specs of the soc http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=cpu&id=a8650&c=qualcomm_snapdragon_qsd8650. But don't go thinking that you can connect to any gsm network, cause you can't no software stack for gsm.

Phone on different network

I have the nexus, obviously, and would like to know if I can use the Verizon version on a different network

Nope. CDMA phones are locked and there's no good way to unlock them.

Nope. If you buy the Verizon one you're stuck. Theres a small glimmer of hope that you could reflash it to another regional CDMA carrier, but even that's a long-shot.

short answer, no
long answer, yes
Anything can be done with enough will power. But practically speaking, no you cant.
I know a guy who got his CDMA EVO 3D working on ATT's GSM network. And I flashed my Sprint only EVO 3D to connect to Verizon. So yes these things are possible, but I wouldnt bother if I were you. If you want to use your VZW Nexus on a GSM network, then why didnt you just get a contract and GSM phone on whichever Network you wanted? If you want to flash to Sprint, Why? Verizon is much better, I just came from Sprint so believe me when I say Sprint has some ****ty service right now. Too many upgrades going on.

SPRINT or VERIZON?

There is a new sub-forum specifically for Sprint phones. Please make sure you are in the right forum when you grab your ROMs. And make sure when you post in other sub-forums you specify if you are posting about a Sprint or Verizon device. Thanks all! Enjoy!
thanks.. would it make sense to have a sprint "general " section too or no?

No. Unless its development related, 95% of discussions are relevant to Verizon, Sprint, and GSM customers.
Is there really enough difference between the two to have two different dev sections? Are they not both the 4G LTE model?

If you flash Verizon ROMs on Sprint, you lose data. Same with flashing Sprint on Verizon. There's enough differentiation to warrant separate dev sections.
this is the same way they did for the nexus s works fine,

Thanks. I don't have one either. My upgrade is in July.
Note: You may have to clear data in your XDA app to see the Sprint Development sub-forum.

Didn't say there was anything wrong with it, was more so interested in the details of the requirement.
Verizon. I would have gone with Sprint, but the release took too long, and their LTE isnt in UT yet. Soon as it is, Ill go back to them for unlimited data
If I didn't have the grandfathered unlimited 3G/LTE plan, then I probably would have jumped ship to Sprint. Verizon's 3G speeds are pretty slow, but from what I've heard, Sprint's is even worse. Once Sprint gets their LTE fully running, it'll probably be good to switch to them, but that probably won't happen until 2013 or 2014.
It's your call. Verizon for now, Sprint later. IMHO.
This was not a question to be answered here. It was a question to ask yourself before flashing the wrong ROM and losing your radios.

Tmobile Galaxy s3 LTE

I have a tmobile galaxy s3 and I'm currently using it on the wind network. I wanted to switch to a canadian provider named fido which uses the same network as rogers. I looked everywhere but cant find a straight answer. I wanted to know whether LTE will work on FIDO and if i have to do some kind of mod or would it just work from the start.
Here we go again lol

the point is YOU NEED TO SEARCH there are a million threads about this in the "General" section of the T-Mobile, Wind, Mobilicity, Videotron Samsung Galaxy S III...
The short answer is no. The T-Mo version doesnt have the proper chip to support LTE. And as stated by DocHoliday, the T-Mobile Galaxy S III was never tested with the FCC for LTE compatibility.
You would know this if you searched......
Short answer is no, long answer is maybe. A Google search would have found other threads on the subject

I did search but i didn't get complete answers. Some were no, some yes, and some maybe. I wanted to make sure before i spend money switching to a more expensive plan then finding out it doesn't work. Im still confused if it will work, because some people are claiming Tmobile representatives and Samsung have said it is LTE capable.
No, it won't work. If the hardware is there it is not enabled, and would probably take some serious dev work to enable it, which I don't think is a priority for any of our devs at the moment

I was hoping otherwise. I just got off the phone with Fido and they told me it will work, are they just bull****ting? Also I was reading in a post i wont have LTE but i will have close to LTE speeds, is there any truth in that?

If you did the research, you know as much as anyone else does. Nobody is magically going to come out of somewhere and give you the answer. If this was a simple answer, it would have been answered and verified. Anyone out there saying "it might work" or "it should work" or "it could work" is just going off of technical documents and little else. Yes it could, but it could also be permanently and irreversibly disabled via software, or other hardware means.

Short answer, no. If you want to base your decision on someone working customer support at Fido, then by all means, get the phone and hope away that you'll get LTE
I would really look to base your decision on what you know and what works today. The phone is HSPA+ 42 compatible, not sure of what the Fido network supports. Today this is often times very competitive with even the latest LTE networks, and is more than enough for any smartphone today.
Good grief.
Sir, please use the Search function, but it seems you may have gotten your answer. Thank You & Thread Closed.

[Q] pageplus

Hi,
I just bought a samsung galaxy nexus i515 verizon 4G LTE cell phone. I came to know that 4G phone does not work with page plus without programming/hacking(?) . Is it possible to make this cell work with pageplus? I do not need 4g or 3g . Just talk and text is fine.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Paras.
Is pageplus GSM? If so then for sure no. If pageplus is CDMA then still no, at least I haven't heard of one CDMA phone being used on another CDMA carrier. To my knowledge the only carrier VZW phones can be used on is VZW, except for the few VZW "global" phones that also support GSM.

Well pageplus is CDMA and uses VZW network. But when I called them they said 4G phones do not work and needs some programming to make it work on their 3G network. I am not sure what do I do.

Oh I see. Very interesting, but over my head. I will keep this thread subscribed.:good:
They didn't offer any other info or leads as to how to go about doing this? How do they program other phones to their network? Seems like the LTE would only make it easier to activate, unless they do not have any LTE towers in place.
