Keyboard comparisons - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

Hi!
I feel the stock Samsung keyboard has potential but the word correction just seems meh (could be due to danish dictionary).
I'd like to see a comparison of the keyboards and what people feel about each one.
Swiftkey
Samsung keyboard (multi touch)
Swype (drawing type keyboard)
HTC_IME (the xda one with online kitchen)
Handcent
Droid X (multi touch)
Currently i feel the HTC_IME is best for me atleast, since it supports danish and it has some added features (XDA). It's slower than the Samsung Keyboard though, probably the multi touch making Samsung faster. I'd like to try Swype or SwiftKey, but danish support seems a while off. Handcent i haven't tried, but as far as i remember it looks alot like the HTC_IME one?
If none of them improves soon, i guess i'll try to code one myself. Swiftkey prediction with multi touch would be pretty awesome

I love the vlingo keyboard, it pwns all the others I've tried.

text using profile: mails/notes/todos/sms, typing rather fast, languages: german & english
HTC_IME, Handcent (is that built into the app?), Vlingo - haven't tried those
Swype
- unique feature: swipe to type
- my favourite; i nearly can type as fast as i can on a real keyboard, which is quite fast
Samsung keyboard (multi touch)
- unique feature: none that i know of
- nice, seems to be a lookalike from the iphone keyboard; works good, just 2 points at once though
- if i want to use multitouch typing while wanting to type as fast as i can i always switch over to this one:
Droid X (multi touch)
- unique feature: multitouch with more than 2 points
- IMHO best multi touch keyboard out there
Swiftkey
- unique feature: text prediction
- useful: using several languages simultaneously (HUGE benefit for me! TouchPal does this as well)
- just installed it while it's in beta, can't say much about it
- using it for just a couple of minutes doesn't reveal much about the real benefit of this keyboard (text prediction)
- looks amazing, i'll definitely use this regularly to see where it goes!
ThickButtons
- unique feature: keyboard-buttons get enlarged when being predicted by the dictionary as possibly the next letter in the current word
- tried this for a couple of text messages, need more time for a thorough test
- runs stable but a bit slow
TouchPal
- seems to be a very good chinese input keyboard, although i'm far from able to confirm that
- useful: using several languages simultaneously (like Swiftkey)
- just testing this for a couple of minutes, seems to be very good!
my wishes :
Swype should implement multi touch support & easy language switch while simultaneously using he built in keyboard - then it's the only keyboard i'll ever need
Swiftkey should come out of beta as soon as it's ready and be as cheap as possible
UPDATE
added Swiftkey & TouchPal

Er really? It's identical to the default Android keyboard, doesn't support multi-touch.
So far, I think the HTC keyboard would rock with multi-touch, but without it it just cannot keep up with fast typing, rendering it useless!
Advantages of default Samsung Keyboard:
- Multi-touch
- Decent text prediction
- Arrow keys appear when you long-press on symbols (big plus)
Disadvantages:
- You can't capitalise random letters in a word!!! (You can't write something like McDonald's for example, because pressing shift will either capitalise ALL letters in the word or the first letter only. This is also painful when you have to type in a username for some app but the text field has prediction enabled.)
- The numbers/symbols layout is dreadful! Seriously, why is the colon on the 2nd page? And why does the last used page open instead of the first one when you press symbols?
Advantages of Droid X keyboard:
- Better multi-touch than Samsung (shift + many keys is possible)
- Much better symbols layout
Disadvantages:
-Auto-capitalisation doesn't work
- No control of the dictionary! And the dictionary has random incorrect words in it like ob and od and im which get substituted when you make a typing mistake.
I'm using the Droid X keyboard right now but desperately looking for something with better dictionary control

Do any of these keyboards have the ability for speech-to-text like the nexus one? I don't see the speaker icon on the samsung keyboards.

Vlingo does and I can type fast on it without worrying about it missing my letters and the auto correction is good on it.

I don't care about multi touch just about typing fast and accurately.

I like the standard Android keyboard, if only it had multi-touch.

The Samsung keyboard is capable for multi touch? Even if it does the multi touch implementation doesn't seems to her close to the one of Droid X, at least I can't feel it. Also the ptedicion and correction doesn't works well. I'm using an IME called CEDIME which I need the Chinese input, the English keyboard included us even better than the Samsung one.
The Droid X multi touch keyboard works well but the prediction will need some improvement, although by using it more you can add more words to it's dictionary.

Using Swiftkey Beta here, and other than some curious auto-complete choices, it's brilliant, rather large though...

I love SWYPE, it is SOOO accurate with English... Though I use Vietnamese quiet often to text my Vietnamese friend and can't seem to find Vietname SWYPE Dictionary ... So i'm teaching SWYPE, but its learning fast...
So overall, I love it!

Touch Keyboard

I'm sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere (And yes I did look), but is there a way to set the touch keyboard to default to the "Touch Keyboard" where each character has its own button? On some screens it appears like that, but on others the "QU", "ER", etc share a key. It's really frustrating.
Thanks in advance!!!!!
try this cab

This is the cab to keep the 40 key "password" you will lose T9 and word prediction ..... do a registry backup.......this cab despite what ever it says WILL uninstall... the registry backup is just in case it can't be uninstalled. I pesonally have uninstalled and reinstalled many times without hard reset...Hope this helps

I didn't make it but codyppc did so give him kudos if you catch him out in cyberworld
This is for the touch keyboard on the touch
Timdawg
Another option
I like what timdawgdentist recommended because I did not know that there was the option available. However, I find the password keyboard a bit difficult to use myself, so I installed PCMKeyboard.
http://www.pocketcm.com/keyboard2.php
That PCMKeybord is really great. It's taking a while to get used to, but I certainly like it much more than any of the others that I've tried. Thanks!!!!!!!
I personally LOVE TouchPal keyboard, I was a fan with 1.0 and now with 2.0 it is that much better, Twice as better and easier to use. I use SIPChange to make that my default Keyboard. You should try it. You can type so freaking fast with it.

I have hard time text messaging with the native texting program that comes with the HTC Touch (Sprint/Vogue). I can't get the keyboard to disappear so that I can press the send bottom on the bottom of the page.
I like the SPB Fullscreen Keyboard with the black47 theme and PCM Keyboard with iPhone skins.
I tried TouchPal, Touch Keyboard and Keypad.
I prefer the touch keyboard from the least 3 i like.
but I mainly use the Fullscreen now but usually wind up switching around to the PCM. Sometimes predictive is good, sometimes I need to be precise

Touch friendly layout switching

Keyboard Settings available from Start Menu
Support for .Net and layout designing is being prepared
You can download the exe installation file from here
You can download the cab installation file from here
Nice!! !! =)
Really nice! Great improvement! I just have one suggestion to make. Give an option to remove the bottom bar with the five dots signifying the five screens. Wastage of screen estate, really, after a while. Other than that, cannot find anything wrong
This is bloody fantastic!!! Must be made with HD2 in mind, because this beats any other keyboard I've tried. Huge improvement over version 5. It's like the standard HTC keyboard, but with improvements that makes it now at least as good as the iPhone keyboard. Thank you!! Looking forward to the final version!
What features are disabled in this beta version? It says that the full version has even more...
Any way to get screenshots of this?
in portrait mode is the best keyboard ever tried.. but in landscape mode the keyboard don't extend in full length..it remains in the same size ad portrait? is it normal? btw i repeat..in portrait mode in way better than every keyboard tried..
tested on HD2

Same here, the keyboard changes to landscape only if I open the Input-Menu and re-chose the Resco keyboard. Then it's landscape but it stays landscape even when the screen switches to portrait. It stays like this until I re-chose the Resco keyboard again.
Apart from this bug, this keyboard is very good to write on!
Tried on HD2 with WinMo6.5.x
Is it a,bug or a limitation? I think it's fantastic!
thanks works fine on omnia i900. i will love final and full version
- Like mentioned above, Landscape mode is buggy on HD2. Have to reselect Resco Keyboard when switching mode. And when I write SMS, the Landscape keyboard covers practically the entire screen, so you're not able to read what you're writing. I hope this is a bug which will be fixed in the final version.
- Even though I select it as the default keyboard, not all programs respond to that. Most programs do, like SMS, Opera, etc., but some programs revert the default keyboard back to standard, and I have to reselect Resco again. Really hope this is a bug that can be fixed as well.
Otherwise, still loving it
Thanks, just testing it now..

this keyboard is great!
its a lil buggy with the rotation on the HD2 though..
i wish the dots could vanish..its just taking more space..
glad i downloaded this~!
and please add options to override the wm bottombar to save some spaces
I'm having the exact same bugs that BlueLux is describing on my HD2.
I really hope that you guys at Resco can do something with our feedback, because this is so much better than the stock one (at least in portrait mode), a decent keyboard like this is exactly what the HD2 needs!!
same bugs mentioned.
Would love to have cyrillic support. Probably a button to change language layout .
nice work
great software! fantastic keyboard! what i need now is hebrew support and its perfect! good work.
so far so good on diamond 2 with WM6.5.5 Build 25659!
I only use portrait and it's fast an nice !
Only little thing is like fingerkb you have to backspace to get contact suggestion when typing sms/email... ezInput show it while typing... i think it's better even if might be slowing typing a little bit if you have a lot of contacts
Great work Resco team (as usual)
best keyboard ive used but option for phonepad would convert me from touchpal
Best keyboard!
Minor buggs,
Rotation and Scale, Landscape
Nice to see this is beta, im sure this will be used of all hd2 users
When all buggs fixed
major bug
if you type too fast, then the keyboard will swipe...its a bit annoying but never have I felt comfortable typing so fast on an onscreen keyboard
finally
is it possible to have a better predictive text engine like the x2 keyboard??? if resco changed those minor bugs I'd actually use this and buy it

Swype

How do I get swype off of my mytouch slide.....i hate it, I want to use the default keyboard
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
You don't have to get rid of it. Just long-press any text-input field and select "input method, then "touch input." This will give you HTC's keyboard, which can be configured as either a qwerty, compact qwerty (like blackberrys), or T9 keyboards in the main settings menu.

Thank you brother!! I just got a T Mo mytouch slide and HATE the swype!! AAARRRGHHH!! I had a G1 for 2 years all rooted and ROMed and loved the phone.... Just got old and the battery lasts 20 minutes now, by G... RIP
I find that the Dragon Dictation is fairly accurate on the phone and I prefer it to the actual keyboard most of the time. If you say "period", "comma", "question mark" or other types of punctuation it will do it as you say. Also it works GREAT when you have to put in numbers (but it will put a space after them). Alpha-numeric sucks though.
My fingers are too large to use swype accurately. It seems nice but really I would rather just use the physical keyboard.

Customize User Dictionary

Has anyone been able to change or update words in their user dictionary? I use the standard Samsung Keyboard, but I cannot find a setting for user dictionary anywhere. I can goto options for the samsung keyboard, but it will only learn from gmail, facebook, etc. Any help would be appreciated.
PS
The samsung keyboard letters are grayed out in language and input, but I can click on the cog next to it to get to settings.
I tried the Swype, but couldn't figure it out either so I went back to my trusty old SlideIt. Easy customizable dictionary + resize keyboard however you like + move keyboard to left or right side for one-handed typing + many more customizations, including how long you want to longhold a key to get the upper character (min. time is 0.1 sec!). Get the paid version. It's better.

Does it have the numbers separately set above the keyboard? Each of the keyboard I have looked at don't have this feature which keeps me using the stock keyboard.

Numbers are, like on a regular laptop/desktop chiclet keyboard, superscripted on the top row of keys (i.e. the qwerty row). So to access the #1, you longhold 'q'. In settings, you can adjust the longhold duration. Mine is set to 0.1 sec, which is so short a time that it is almost the same as having a dedicated #1 key. It's so quick that as I'm getting used to it, I've unintentionally typed the longhold characters quite a few times.

That's based on the older ICS keyboard. Notice on the note 2 with jellybean keyboard you get a separate set of number keys, allowing them to add even more special characters to the letter keys? Trying to retain that. Think I found a few new ones tho. Thx.
anyone able to edit user dictionary ... or import text file ... right now its learning from facebook and gmail but cannot import it by whatsapp ... software like User Dictionary manager show blank dictionary

HTC Sense Keyboard improvement

Hi All:
I use the HTC Sense keyboard in my M8, I use the English & Arabic languages.
I tried so many keyboards, like SwiftKey, Google Keyboard, Samsung Galaxy Keyboard (Galaxy S4), Sony and many others from Play Store and I found out that the HTC Sense Keyboard is the best specially in Arabic language.
but I believe that it is missing some features like.
1- No themes !! (even Google Keyboard have themes !!)
2- There should be a separate selection for each word prediction & Auto replace words (they are combined now in one option).
3- Separate row for numbers.
Any one have something to add ??
I hope HTC will look to this thread, I want to see the keyboard with material design with all that options.

There is tons of themes on Viper rom for HTC keyboard, about rest of the features forget about it, HTC wont loook at this thread you can only ask HTC via official support about it and pray they add it some day in sense 7...8...
One question though... where did you find the keyboard from S4? I would gladly ditch the sense keyboard, for the samsung's one.
