which WinMo build is best for running Xandroid? - Touch Pro, Fuze Android Development

Does it make any difference? I'm using TAEL on my ATT Fuze right now, but it's giving me real problems (actually, it's unusable at the moment. I'm 100% on android- until my battery runs out...) Should I go back to a WinMo 6.1 build? Which one do you use?

Several people have done fairly extensive testing... and all we've found that WinMo does is initialize some hardware for Android - so any build of WinMo is fine. It really does not have any relation to Android at all.
With that said, if you want an easy way to go straight to Android, search for Gen.Y. That method is a sort of dual-boot of Android and WinMo (not a true Android ROM keep in mind.)

Thank you!
That's great- I'll just flash something simple and keep android up (love it BTW!). Does this mean that once android is running, WinMo is completely shut off? Does it make any difference if I have WinMo applications running before I start android?
BTW- Thanks!

Basically, yes. Like I said, the only thing WinMo does is initialize hardware - for example, early on we had to make a phone call in WinMo before booting Android to get the mic to work. Devs fixed that issue. Same with hw3d, but they sorted that out as well. I think the only thing left is the display itself (I could be wrong) but there isn't any special app you need to run to initialize that.

I use that lightNHB winmo that is posted on the first page of the android release post. Seems to work good... and gets into Android boot pretty quickly

i'm using TAEL too, but it's quite stable, oh i'v instaled [prj][XDANDROID][2.2][AOSP][29.7.10] but i don't use lightNHB, i simply execute haret.exe on explorer

LightNBH2
No guys, you are all wrong. There's one ROM I'm on now, which automatically boots Linux and as well is very quick to boot (for those people who don't want to use WinMo at all)
It also lets you to use your device as the internal storage to (update/edit Android builds) I find this ROM the best to use with Android. It loads as quickly as possible and auto runs Linux which is surely the best decision so far. Here's the link.

Haha, that and I said I use LightNHB and works good, and that was also wrong

Come on now people, is this needed really??
I think to paraphrase the thread, try out some ROMs and see how you get on.
Really thats it.

Agreed; thread closed.

I own an HD2 and loved the windows 6.5 format, now im looking at the incredible due to a change in service provider and wonder if I could put a windows rom on the incredible even though its running android. I know on the HD2 which ran windows, you could put an android rom so im wondering if it works the other way around. wtf? Them are fightin words!
This will probably never happen.
Android is open source. So a conversion is more likely to move towards open source than a proprietary OS.
What you want may not be impossible, I think the community to drive towards proprietary OSes will be too small for success.
It'd probably never work right anyway... Even if you could find an image of WinMo compiled for the processor, driver issues would be everywhere. It's very unlikely that these would be something which could be corrected.

I agree that it hasn't been done because Android is so much better, but there are things I miss from Windows that just worked better. Mainly connecting to my VPN and using remote desktop. It just worked so flawlessly on Windows (and why shouldn't it, its the same company I know) and Android is being difficult with it. Plus there aren't any remote desktop programs that are free that is as good as the one that came stock on the windows phone.

Without bugs? No software is without bugs. With that said, there are many 'non-working' things. Read the main thread, it's got all these words that will answer this question. First 4 posts are great, after that the search feature works wonders.
Also, what happened to trying it out? This is for fun/testing, it's not meant to replace WinMo. So if that's what you're looking for (WinMo replacement) I'd look elsewhere. Like a new phone

"Bugless" is preference, IMO. Sure it runs on my Fuze as long as I stay within the guideliness from the link mentioned in the previous post. If you are looking for benchmarks, you might be better off with a device that actually comes with Android (also IMHO).
By the way what are you attempting to do with this?
Use it as my primary OS. i'm willing to sacrifice the camera for it.

There's a lot of other little quirks, I wouldn't use it as your primary OS - unless your phone isn't used as a phone of course
Most of the problems people truly have usually are related to the phone sleeping and missing calls, or rebooting in a call etc. Stuff that's mission-critical so-to-speak - I know some that use the phone completely unactivated and love Android full time. There's also some I know that have the phone activated and just don't care and use it all the time.
I'd say for most 'normal' people, it's not ready to use full time as your primary OS. But as with anything tech-related - try it for yourself! Don't let my opinion make your decision, only you will be able to tell. That's the greatest thing about this whole project, doesn't damage the phone, no need to flash anything... Try before you buy, except it's free anyways
welll I had it!
When i bought the phone (secound hand or third ) it had it installed already. It was froyo. I playd with it until it crashed! I had several runs until someday when i noticed that sounds ain't working no more. why? don't know.

It's a lite WinMo ROM that auto loads Haret from SD card the author is MichyPrima
As mentioned in THIS post. In my opinion, the closest that RAPH has been reported to run from nand. Keeping in mind this doesn't actually run from nand.
Just wondering if you tried it or not...

[Q] The TyTN II on Android...

First of all, I'd like to thank all the super-talented people on this board that have persevered and have managed to create and tweak these Android ports for our devices. You peeps truly are amazing! Never would I have imagined running Android on my nearly-ancient TyTN II, but now I can.
Now that the praise is out of the way...
Are there any (or are there any coming soon) Android ports that would allow for full functionality on my TyTN II and actually be stable? For example, USB connectivity doesn't appear to work. As soon as I connect it to my PC, it starts and stops continuously. The Bluetooth functionality seems to be present, but whenever I attempt to connect a headset to the device, it only recognizes it for music playing, not for calls or as a hands-free device. In addition, it doesn't matter whether I overclock or not, I'm still hounded by constant application crashes and it seems to get worse the longer the device is on. These things (at the least) are constants no matter which port I install.
Any ideas or suggestions?
In the end, I'm still very thankful for all the talent here at XDA and am amazed at all you've accomplished.
Thanx again.
I have had my old Tytn2 running Android fast and stable for weeks now - details in my sig. Edit the nbh for Kaiser and your panel then you just need to do two extra things:
1. Run the wifi fix
2. Get hold of an app called SD Dual Mount for USB mass storage.
Not sure about BT. I don't use it on mine.
Like you I am in total awe of these guys getting Android working so well on our ancient devices.
u can run it but its not going to be as stable as a native android phone i dont think...
Eventually it will be.
So, nothing right now to stabilize and utilize the full functionality of a BlueTooth headset? Thanx again.

Personally I'd go with .32 at this point. .25 isn't any more stable on my phone as far as crashes and lockups are concerned. And data loss issues with .32 seem to be mostly ironed out (I would still keep a /data backup in case tho).
Plus the performance increase from .25 to .32 is well worth it.

32 is probably better at this point. For quite a while, 2.6.25 would survive crashes better, but I think they're pretty much equal now in that regard. The 25 branch doesn't get attention of developers anymore.
Not to mention the .25 kernel is right about 2 years old now.

The microphone not working at least, so when i call somebody, i hear him, but he isn't hear me.
All other, include wifi, internet working good.
I found that it's well-known bug, and kernel version change could help.
But how to change it?
All versions i downloaded, based on 2.6.25, it's 2.6.25-01106-g50cf5f2-dirty on my device.
I found zImage file 2.6.32 but when i change zImage in andboot and restart - it's don't help.
i found NBH file for tytn ii ( kaisimg-panel2-240x320-2.6.32-tilt-froyo-09-09-10_21.nbh) , but how to install it?
Pls help!

You went to a dealer and they put Android on your TP2?!?! Wow, that must be a first!! Personally, I would recommend that you install a custom WinMo ROM, like the Energy ROM. When you'll have a functional TP2, you might want to try to use Froyo or Gingerbread with XDAndroid to see if it works great for you.
it is not the main os need to boot in windows mobile first then i need to start in something called haret. it wil boot a linux like os called android

As far as I know, and I may be wrong so others will correct if so, A TP2 is not supposed to work out of the box with Android. The whole XDAndroid project is running to that Android can be tweaked to run efficiently on other "non-Android" cellphones. As for haret, it's the program that start the Linux booting sequence so that XDAndroid can boot on the phone.
As I told you, if you want a working TP2 as fast as possible, you should think about installing a custom WinMo ROM. Then, you could look to find what you're looking for, a way to install Android natively on your TP2.
EDIT: I misread you last post, so I'm not sure you want to run Android as your main OS, but still, you should look to install a custom WinMo ROM of your TP2. I personally use Energy Rom with MaxSense and I really like it. I even overclocked my phone to 748 mhz with WiMoSpeed and it works great.

Wow. Never go to that phone dealer again. Android on the TP2 is NOT stable yet. He stuck you with something that was destined to break.
That said, Android is MUCH more stable lately, so if you want to reinstall Android yourself visit the Rhodium Android Development forum, or visit http://xdandroid.com.
And MMS finally works.
I have been running Froyo FRX06 on my TP2 (RHOD500) for almost two weeks now (Verizon global phone, using CDMA only with SIM card removed). The build itself has actually been very good I think. Only one SoD so far. It has rebooted on me a few times (notably when I was in an area with no service and a couple times when using navigation), but other wise has been great! With moderate usage I can easily go 17 hours between charges (includes using navigation, FB, etc). The only things that don't work are BT, the 3.5 jack (wouldn't use anyways), and MMS (but I believe there is a fix for this now as noted above). I am also overclocking (710400 khz) and so far so good (will probably bump it up some more shortly). I have not even had to switch back to WinMo once since I made the switch.
Basically, I recommend at least trying it out
A phone dealer charging for something obtainable from this site for free? LOL.
I would only recommended android on SD at the moment so you can at least use the phone
Check the link in my sig. (android on SD) to get setup.
Get that all set up with a new winmo rom and youd be all good to go, im using android as my primary. and windows only to start android.
only thing not working for my on android is Bluetooth, same for all users with our phone. There should be an update coming soon to fix this though...
btw, post all android related threads in the android section so you can get better help faster.

ATT.
I've tried about 7-10 different task manager files, none really worked.
I'd flash a new ROM if I could get some straight answers as to the most stable and useful one. Everyone has their favorites, so the discussion gets a bit muddled. I'm in a Motorhome right now and may be for longer then I had anticipated, so if I do, I'm not in the position to play/experiment.
Any ideas?
Well of course opinions will muddle the discussion of "most stable and useful" - everyone is going to have a different angle of what they feel fit those criteria.
I don't really use WinMo much anymore (Android is way too much fun ) but EnergyROM always worked well for me. I'm on Titanium lately, because I don't care how it looks - I just want it to boot quickly to get me into Android quickly .

I like Android, but with it phoning home, and the lack of audio through B/T (yet - I need a headset in the car and walking around), I can't use it on a daily basis - yet.
Hell'ava job though!
I've found ark-switch which works - mostly, so I can live with it.
Now if I can just figure out how add programs to a drop down start button, I'll be happy.
