To Be honest. Im glad that it is horizontal for movies n **** but for $40 dollars!! that joint aint to sexy or appealing (Not like the Moto Droids Dock) but it gets the job done.
PREECH NOTE:
For those of u who want that full dock clock experience like the "Motorola DROID 1" go to the Android Market & download the app called
:"Desk Home For Samsung Vibrant". Desh home works with all Samsung special music & video player apps & even work with the "Daily Breifing" app. (The regular stock android "DESK CLOCK" feature will not work on the samsung Vibrant becuz the galaxy S has different music & video players from Stock android 2.1 or 2.2
I hope this was real helpful.
www.BlackFreedomUnity.com Will have Live YouTube Tech Reviews & How To's! from the "THE HOOD HACKER" himself coming soon in chopped & screwed vocals.
Over N Out

Looks like it wouldn't work with a case on the phone. I'll stick to my bent paperclip stand.

The desk dock from Samsung USA is ok, but I still prefer the dock with the integrated speakers. Found it on their launch website.

I really want a dock station but $40 is kind of pricy, for now I am going to try this:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Griffin-Technology-Travel-Stand-iPhone-iPod-Touch/14575863
It says that is for iphone/ipod but I try it on walmart and works good, and if I pod a small case if keep working, not like the original that looks like it wont work with a case.
the good thing is only $13

What's the deal with that? Are they just not releasing that thing? I totally wanted that dock.
So there's no dock with built-in speakers?

not to bash you but that has been on their site for 3 weeks now. it is still listed out of stock, and if you looked at my post earlier, i confirmed with the samsung accessories department that nothing will be officially available for another 3-4 weeks

I don't see a way for this to be used as a car mount, anyway I really want a dock to have my vibran on my desktop, I get so pissed there is so many accessories for the Iphone 4 and no love for out vibrant
I dream about a cnc machine dock and back cover for my vibrant ahhggr!
and why isn't tmobile selling this docks and other accessories for the vibrant, they have all kind of crap for my touch 3g slide

For some reason, not sure why, I doubt that Samsung will be the ones who realize accessories are features. People buy gadgets based on what they can do with them, including dock them, mount them in their car, output to TV without hunting down a mysterious cable.
I think the reason iPhones have so many accessories is, in large part, because they have so many accessories. Out of the box this is proving way too difficult. This is going to bite Samsung in the sales end.

This isn't going to fix the charging issue but this is what I have decided to do for now.
This is for the sound.

Guess I could lean the phone against it.

Make it less than $20 and I will buy.

Still says its sold out unless of course it wasn't earlier.

The iPhone didn't have very many accessories when it first launched either. Watch eBay and search for Galaxy S or Galaxy Vibrant, new stuff is being added almost on a daily basis.

I'm going to order some shape lock (modable plastic) and make my own dock for my car I plan on making it a lot like this dock, but it will surround the phone on three sides, holding it in landscape (add a to to the pictured dock. Between these surrounds, and the friction of the usb connection, that should be enough to hold it in place for most purposes in my car. I Also plan to build in a mic from one of the headsets for speakerphone over the car speakers.

I love the aesthetics of these stands.
I got the H1 a couple of months ago for $20 with a coupon.

When it launched, the iPhone came bundled with a dock.

Now I just need a bedside Dock or Cradle
Just got the Samsung Vibrant last week, and all my friends that have iPhone 4 are impressed with it, too. It blows away my old iPhone 2G and 3Gs phones.
The only thing missing is a good bedside dock! I always used my iPhone as an alarm clock and the dock was great, along with the snooze button right on top.
I've been waiting for Samsung to come out with it's official dock, but I'm tired of holding my breath for that one.
I got a black elago S2 stand (I'd post a link, but new posters apparently aren't allowed to here). While it holds the phone well for watching movies, it tends to fall over with the micro-usb charger plugged in, or when I clumsily try to turn off the alarm in the morning. So I'm looking for a more stable one.
Has anybody tried this one: ezestand
or this one: Samsung Desktop Cradle with Integrated Cable Channels- Original (OEM) ET-CS01SBEGXAR
Again, sorry for the lack of links.

The sad thing about our phone is the retarded plug on top. I mean common that limits us to zero aftermarket docks unless they lay on their side.

Well.. you COULD put it upside down

LOL, I thought about that earlier.

Anyone know if Samsung ever actually had the docks in stock, or were they out from the beginning? It's just surprising to me that they're now hyping all the Galaxy phones like crazy, yet aren't doing a thing about the accessories.

Desktop Docks at Mobile Fun

Just found these desktop docks at Mobile Fun:
Standard
http://www.mobilefun.com/35463-samsung-galaxy-s3-case-compatible-charging-dock.htm
Dual Charge
http://www.mobilefun.com/35464-samsung-galaxy-s3-case-compatible-dual-charging-dock.htm
Anyone use one of these? They look like they would hold the phone more securely than the Samsung dock, and they're fairly cheap as well.
One thing I'm curious about - With my old Nexus One, I used to be able to set the phone in the dock, and it would automatically switch into home mode. This mode would display the clock and weather, and then switch to a dim alarm clock at night. Anyone know if the S3 behaves the same way, or if any of the after market docks support this feature?
Update: I bought the standard version of this, in black. Here's some thoughts...
It takes a few weeks to receive one of these, since they are shipped from overseas, even if you order it from the .us version of their site.
The Galaxy S3 does not recognize this as a dock, so the phone doesn't automatically switch to desktop dock mode. This XDA thread has info on DIY hacking to address this. It's also been suggested NFC might be a good workaround for this.
The dock is fairly solid, and holds the phone securely. It's very light, but the footprint makes it pretty stable and unlikely to tip over if bumped.
It has a small pop out piece that allows docking the phone even when using a slim fitting case. I have the Rock Quicksand case, and it's a little bit loose, so something slightly thicker than that should still fit.
This is a good looking dock with a glossy black face and flat black sides, but unlike the pictures on the website, there's a white KiDiGi logo on the front of it. This logo is screenprinted on, and I'm not sure if there is any way to remove this without damaging the finish.
It has a standard micro usb connecter on the back of the dock, so any of your typical charging or syncing options should work. It also ships with a standard usb to micro usb cable, instead of the UK mains to micro usb cable as originally stated on their website. Perhaps they've changed this for the US market.
Overall, this is a pretty nice dock for the price.
It looks like it can be docked while the S3 is in a case. I wonder how thick the case can be?
I was usedto the one from captivate so I ordered 2 of these

I really like how there's no logo on the front. I don't mind saving a few bucks by getting a non-Samsung brand, but I don't like seeing the name of some obscure brand plastered across the front of the dock (like this one)
As for the part about the home mode... I suspect you could maybe accomplish this with an NFC tag. There appears to be enough flat real estate on the dock to fit a square on there. I don't know how well it would line up with the receiving part of the phone, which I imagine is more towards the center? Definitely some testing would need to be done before sticking it on.
EDIT: I just noticed in the item description it says it comes with a "UK AC Power Adaptor." Spelling mistake aside, I'm a bit bummed by that.
Excellent point on the NFC tag. That dock in particular does seem to have the perfect spot for it.
I bet that UK power adapter goes to micro USB, which then plugs into the back of the dock. That's how my last dock was. If that's the case, then you should be able to use any other micro USB power you have handy. but yeah, that is sort of a bummer.
There is another dock like this for sale on ebay too. The ebay one has an LED on the front of it though:

ME TOO!
I figured for $12 it was worth a try...and from a review I saw of one that looked identical but had a branding on it I felt it was a good option.
Plus from what I have read/watched it appears it may be a little nicer to play with a TPU case where I am not sure the Kidigi will work with most TPU Cases...though slim cases like the Rok case and others that more cover the back and sides but don't have the face lip appear they will work fine with the Kidigi with the insert out.

I like having it sideways like this for a night stand clock. Does it go into clock mode when you dock it?
I like the sideways too, too bad the default OS doesn't go sideways on desktop view...
Just an update, I bought a spare charger from RND Power Solutions.....looks exactly the same as the Kidigi/Mugen charger posted on the first page. Unfortunately it will not charge batteries to 100 percent.....they only get to about 85% or so. This seems to be the issue with most of the aftermarket spare chargers out there right now. According to RND, this is because of the different voltage the S3 uses for overcharge protection and the manufacturer is working on a solution.
I'd stay away from these chargers till they get it fixed.
Man, I just want some good ones on Amazon with prime ;/
just FYI, mobilefun US and UK seems to be the same company, but all their US orders are believed to be sent from their UK location, this is not something that is stated on their US site. i ordered a case from their US site on july 8th and just received it today on the 18th, and the shipping address on the package is from their UK location.
Just got mine today. I've updated the original post with my thoughts.
I want to know if this would work with the Incipio Silicrylic two-piece case. Based on the OP's comments it sounds like it would but I'd rather not throw away $30 if it didn't.
I've had one of these stands, works with any type of phone. very very very very sturdy. I've had this for quite some time. Worked with my evo and my touchpro2:
http://www.thoughtout.biz/products/PED3.html
I ordered one and it said it was shipped on 7/3 and it's 7/22 and I still have not received it. I contacted their customer service and they've been slow to respond. Hopefully I'll be able to get my money back.

This is the first car holder for the S III to have an integrated charger, instead of just being bundled with a separate charger. It's called the iBolt.

Cool idea. Dumb name since this has nothing to do with iDevices.
You still have to route a wire to it (given) and grab their plug and put it in the hole of the phone.. unlike the infuse dock.
How different is that then just zip tying a charging cable to a regular dock?
They do ship to Australia!

Well, it'd be cleaner for a start and it also includes auxiliary out
the one shown here has a aux out on it also.

This dock will work great for me. I cant wait to get one. Im waiting to see what amazons price will be on this.
Looks great, especially if it has the aux. out. My questions would be:
1. Will it initiate "dock mode" on your phone when you plug it in, or is that only available when you have a Samsung branded car dock?
2. Is there a way to (easily) mount it to the ProClip mounting platforms? (I've already got one in my car, so it would be cool to somehow tie into that)

The product description from one of the above links states that it does automatically start car/dock mode when plugged in. Obviously I can't confirm that but it sounds like it should do the job. Not sure about the ProClip factor.
What is that aux out line quality? Poor like Infuse 4G? Flat and no bass?

I watched the video and yes, it goes into car mode. I think I'm going to purchase one right now. The one cable is nice. I hate spending $40 on a mount, but this looks worth it to me and normally when you spend $10 on something you get $10 worth of crap.
Not bad, but I'd just go with the Infuse dock. The build quality is really nice and you can get it cheap from AT&T when it's in stock.
The infuse dock is not made for the s3. I like a good quality car dock as I have one now with my photon. That was one thing lacking with the s3. I would like to try out the aux as the s3 I believe has real aux out of the USB. I also have on order for the Samsung hs3000 BT adapter to use for audio out.
See, I never understood the sideways orientation for GPS. It seems to me that you'd want to see more of the road ahead of you, not more of the empty space on the sides of the road. Also, why do manufacturers name all their accessories iSomething? I really don't get why you'd make an accessory for a non-iPhone and call it iSomething. Is it just me, or am I the crazy one?
Why do you need a separate aux out port when you can just plug in to the headphone jack?
Bevause you can leave the aux port always connected, and not have to unplug it every time you remove your phone. Nice when you have to make frequent stops.

on vertical vs horizontal:
vertical is handy if you are on the highway, and want to see the turns coming sooner.
horizontal is better in the city, so you can see the next turns after the next turns, and side streets.
(I like to be able to switch it up)
on the iThing nomenclature... iAnything is silly, unless it is for the iPhone, but it is all marketing. When trying to sell to sheeple (normal non-techie folk) iName sounds like it is high tech, and easy to use. To techie people it sounds silly.

Pleomax Car Mount review

Couldn't see many comments about the Pleomax car mount in this forum so I thought I'd give some feedback because it's fantastic!!!
Official page (took me a while to navigate the korean to find it lol). Not sure if this is the exact same model as the width dimensions are slightly different, but the illustrations are still useful.
http://www.pleomax.co.kr/service/pr...2&SearchData=&SearchPageSize=9&oidProduct=432
Positives:
- Suction is really strong and stable. It has a simple switch mechanism that helps the suction cup grip strongly. At first I was baffled because it wasn't sticking, but then I realised I hadn't taken off the plastic protector that was attached to the suction cup lol.
- Overall build quality is great. All functions work perfectly. Rotates 360 degrees yet sticks in position nice and firm.
- Works with a range of phone sizes (Not sure the exact range - SGS1 and 2 work fine. I'm not sure about the note - but I saw another pleomax dock on ebay that said note2 on it - not sure if it's the same dock or a slightly bigger.version).
Negatives:
- Not solely tailored for the SGS3 (although I'm certain they tested/designed it with the S3 in mind)- the grip prongs are a generic/flexible fit which means the phone probably doesn't slide in a smoothly/easily as a set i9300 dock. However, once it's in it is very snug and well fitted.
- No frills product. It's just a dock - no electronics (usb audio) or anything. However, this probably isn't a negative for most people - this is the type of dock I wanted (it is very easy to get a usb cable or nfc tag to put phone into car mode or output usb audio).
Overall:
Best dock I've ever used (well.. I previously only had an awful generic one from dealextreme lol.)
Pleomax is a Samsung subsidiary/brand (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleomax). The Box is branded with "Pleomax" and "Samsung C&T" and lives up to the Samsung quality we are used to .
I bought it off this seller http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ORIGINAL...es&hash=item1c2690c4ce&_uhb=1#ht_12286wt_1159
The price at $20 is not cheap, but compared to the cost of most other docks I consider it quite reasonable (especially for a samsung product).

I bought this late last year, while it does work well for most smartphones, it is NOT in any way durable. Just wait till summer comes, those arms will break like twigs when you go to put the phone into it, I had two so far since the retailer sent me one free of charge because of it breaking. It broke using the Galaxy Nexus (without a case on I might add)
also I wish people would stop calling these "MOUNTS" a dock, a dock is something you insert the device into to add functionality. A mount is something that holds something.

Took it awhile to get here so I kind of forgot about this thread. I'm quite happy with the mount overall, very sturdy and well built and holds the phone very strongly while easy to get it in and out. You'll need to buy your own adhesive though to mount it to the dash most likely since it doesn't like to stick to 2 out of my 3 car dashboards by itself.

[Q] Anyone thinking about or using the Samsung Galaxy Smart Dock with an Active?

I've spent the past day or so mulling over spending a pocketful of cash for a brand new phone these days, after so many years of grabbing up used hardware passed down by other people, I'm at a point where the current generation of phones (like the GS4A) are most certainly "powerful enough" to do some of the things that I'd like to do. My idea is this, as crazy as it might sound, is to build myself a nice desktop machine (which is on the planning board right now as well) but also get a brand new high end smartphone which I intend to use in manner like so:
- attach the high end smartphone to a dock (if one is available) that allows me to plug in a keyboard, mouse, and of course a high definition monitor (in this case with the GS4A, a 1920x1080 model to match the resolution, I don't need more than that
- when I'm at home I can simply put the phone on the dock and then it will become my "terminal" powering the desktop monitor, controlled by the keyboard and mouse, and running a terminal services/remote desktop application which then allows me to "remote in" to the desktop computer (which will be in another part of the room on the same network)
Yes, it does sound a bit crazy but it's what I have in mind. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has or owns the Samsung Galaxy Smart Dock Multimedia Hub as seen here:

I know that it's a bit expensive for what it is, but the capabilities it offers are perfect for my particular plans I have in mind. I've found it for a bit less on eBay and Amazon so, it's under strong consideration since I'd prefer to use such a dock instead of using an MHL adapter then that into a hub, etc - which would probably be an issue getting USB signals out at the same time as the HDMI for the monitor, and so on. A single dock doing all that (and offering 3 USB ports and audio output too) is far more realistic.
So, if anyone has such a dock could you comment on your experience(s) with it with the GS4A? I'm going over to the GS4 forum to look around for info - I'm just making an assumption that the dock works with the GS4A since it is a Galaxy device and that dock is supposed to be for all of them, more or less. The recessed USB port on the GS4A (because of the "rugged" casing design) might make it more difficult to attach, perhaps Samsung has one of those adapters to raise the microUSB plug on the adapter and make it flush. It's all part of my research now.
I wish I could get that "Flame Orange" version of the GS4A but I can't seem to locate a seller for it, I believe that's the International version of the GS4A and on eBay it's commanding prices in the $900 range and I simply cannot afford that much. I may even end up buying a GS4A used, who knows.
Already picked out my case, however, it's that Supcase Unicorn Beetle one in Yellow/Black, that thing is simply gorgeous.
Thanks for any input or information, it's appreciated.
Edit: I just checked and yes it appears to be compatible with the GS4A as noted on the "Supported Devices" support page, awesome.
I looked at that dock, and others as well, but have been waiting for someone else to check if it actually works with the Active or not... Maybe you
What I wonder is what happens to the rubber USB plug when the phone is in the dock. Does it just get crushed underneath, or is their a space for it? Maybe the plug will need to be removed completely, which is something I'm close to doing anyway since I didn't get this phone to use underwater anyway.
If you do decide to purchase, please post back and let us know...
If you look on the page you linked to, under compatible with, click "see all", and you'll note that the Active is listed on the second page - at least the AT&T model. In other words, it seems it would work!
I'd consider it myself if I had room for a third monitor on my desk.
Found this giant pic online. It looks like the piece in the middle can be taken out to help accommodate the rubber flap. I don't have one myself but it looks pretty solid.

Gotta love it when the ad says "SHIPS WORLDWIDE" but in this somewhat rare instance it can't/doesn't/won't ship to the US, go figure. Bleh.
Got a friend over in the UK, will ask her if she can order it for me, have it shipped to her then she'll send it my way.
I ended up getting an S4 Active in somewhat "horribad" cosmetic condition: was dropped by the previous owner < 2 weeks after purchase, the Dive Blue model from AT&T, and developed a typical "spider web" crack in the glass but the digitizer is still 100% functional and the LCD suffered no ill effects, missing the original battery cover/back plate and the original battery, but I got it for $100 so whatever, I'm a somewhat happy camper at this moment.
Working on getting an unlock code so I can use it with T-Mobile, was reading up on that AWS "unlock" as well to help with the data connection, will see how it all works out over the next few days/weeks I suppose.
It's damned fast, and even in spite of the crack and no back cover (I got a battery off craigslist for $30, not brand new but it works so that's a plus).
Still would like to get one of these docks so yes, I'd like to hear your experience when yours arrives, thanks.
Arrived the other day and i must say im impressed, it worked well with my phone and my wifes (S3), It came with an euro charger and an american charger but i just used my phone charger and it works, it shows in portrait but when the phone flips into landscape mode its fits the whole screen.
I had a chance to get one from Samsung at half price using that 50% coupon code they gave me for registering the phone to my account, but of course I forgot about it completely when I ordered a single battery the other day - DOH!!! Should have just put both of them in the cart and got both products for less than the regular price of just one of the docks.
But I'll live I guess. I had originally intended to use the dock as I said in the first post above: like it was a "computer" of sorts attached to a keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc; I realized that wasn't going to be a feasible situation for me so I've decided to go the opposite direction and do everything I can to be truly wireless meaning using a wireless charger and all data transfers to and from the phone using Wi-Fi, and maybe even using the Wi-Fi Direct or DLNA capability to send some "video" out from it as well, there are lots of possibilities.
Just bought a Jawbone JAMBOX for $50 on craigslist and for it's size it's quite amazing too, now paired with my GS4A and crankin' out some Rush.
We'll see what happens...
I know this smart dock works with the Note 3
Since we are talking about the Samsung multimedia smart dock, I tested this out and it works with the note 3 as well, if anyone is interested:

If you've got CAD skills, design one and I'll 3D print it for you. May not be as "pretty" as injection molded ones, but it's way cooler.
I made mine - it's similar to this.

(can't take a picture of mine with the phone in it, hehe)
I'm after a good desktop dock as well.
Sure there's this generic design with couple hundred different brands. I know. I have that one. It's ****. A little over 19€ wasted. GG.

The opening is too wide for it. Our phone is 68.2mm wide while this is 1.4mm too wide. So it rocks sideways and moves back and forth. I have to guide the phone so it goes to the microUSB port.
The led is turned on always when the charger is connected. Dumb. It doesn't activate the dock mode, which I think there should be, at least making the phone go to some sort of desk clock mode.
Also it's "rubber" feet are a joke, dem dock just be slidey widey away on the desk wheeeeee.
Guess I'm spoiled since with my previous phone (GT-N7000) I had Samsung's own desktop dock and I didn't even have to think when I put it on there. I could just wham it on there and it would go there no problems. Well doh since it is properly made FOR the phone.
I even paid only 5€ more for that dock than what I paid for this crap dock.
I also noticed that the One sits quite high on the dock so it's center of mass is higher which contributes to a less stable dock. The bottom edge of my Gnote is a good 10mm closer to the table compared to One sitting in that dock. It also shows if I look at both phones sitting in their respective docks, One combo is couple mm higher than Note sitting in it's dock while One is 9.65mm smaller height wise.
Sure there's this model but to my eyes it doesn't seem exactly stable. Well lateral stability should be good but it's foot print on the table is small in the other direction.
Anything else out there?
P.S. No need to say it, I'm quite demanding when it comes to this kind of stuff. As beautiful phone as the One is it deserves a PROPER dock.

I've ordered that one, just waiting on it to arrive (shipping takes forever, it seems). My previous phone had a really nice dock that I bought from HTC, so it was perfectly sized. It mounted the phone sideways, so when in the dock it activated "Desktop Clock" on the phone, which was really nice and made for a great bedside alarm clock. Hopefully, this dock will be suitable.
Well that's the same dock as I have right here.
Hope you'll like it more than I do...

Strange. I ordered what looks like the same dock, and it fits fine. It came with a sleeve that can be removed so that it works with a TPU case. With the sleeve in it fits the HTC commando style, but with the sleeve removed it works great with my Diztronic TPU case. Maybe they forgot the sleeve with your model. In the picture you can see the insert. Here is the one I got.

UPDATE: OK, I rechecked mine (I don't use it much), and it is a bit loose, but mine holds well due to the TPU case (I suppose), simply from the connector. So I guess what bothers you doesn't bother me... Good luck with your search.

Just received mine. It fits very well and snug, no wobbling. I don't have a case on my One, and I use the included insert on the dock. I'm very pleased with it. I just wish the HTC One had the "desktop clock" mode like my old MyTouch 4G Slide did when you insert it into the dock.

Thank you, I hadn't considered that. Dashclock works perfectly in Daydreams.
I have this one:

works with this case:

Very happy
I bought this stand and have had no problems with it. It's stable, but not heavy at all.
