iBolt, first car holder with integrated charger - Galaxy S III Accessories

This is the first car holder for the S III to have an integrated charger, instead of just being bundled with a separate charger. It's called the iBolt.

Just ordered one from here:

Anyone else tried one of these?

Haven't tried one but will be checking when I get home if they will ship to Australia 100% what I've been looking for! A big thanks for posting this

Cool idea. Dumb name since this has nothing to do with iDevices.

You still have to route a wire to it (given) and grab their plug and put it in the hole of the phone.. unlike the infuse dock.
How different is that then just zip tying a charging cable to a regular dock?

They do ship to Australia!

Well, it'd be cleaner for a start and it also includes auxiliary out

the one shown here has a aux out on it also.

here is a video from the mfg

This dock will work great for me. I cant wait to get one. Im waiting to see what amazons price will be on this.

Looks great, especially if it has the aux. out. My questions would be:
1. Will it initiate "dock mode" on your phone when you plug it in, or is that only available when you have a Samsung branded car dock?
2. Is there a way to (easily) mount it to the ProClip mounting platforms? (I've already got one in my car, so it would be cool to somehow tie into that)

The product description from one of the above links states that it does automatically start car/dock mode when plugged in. Obviously I can't confirm that but it sounds like it should do the job. Not sure about the ProClip factor.

What is that aux out line quality? Poor like Infuse 4G? Flat and no bass?

I watched the video and yes, it goes into car mode. I think I'm going to purchase one right now. The one cable is nice. I hate spending $40 on a mount, but this looks worth it to me and normally when you spend $10 on something you get $10 worth of crap.

Not bad, but I'd just go with the Infuse dock. The build quality is really nice and you can get it cheap from AT&T when it's in stock.

The infuse dock is not made for the s3. I like a good quality car dock as I have one now with my photon. That was one thing lacking with the s3. I would like to try out the aux as the s3 I believe has real aux out of the USB. I also have on order for the Samsung hs3000 BT adapter to use for audio out.

See, I never understood the sideways orientation for GPS. It seems to me that you'd want to see more of the road ahead of you, not more of the empty space on the sides of the road. Also, why do manufacturers name all their accessories iSomething? I really don't get why you'd make an accessory for a non-iPhone and call it iSomething. Is it just me, or am I the crazy one?

Why do you need a separate aux out port when you can just plug in to the headphone jack?

Bevause you can leave the aux port always connected, and not have to unplug it every time you remove your phone. Nice when you have to make frequent stops.

on vertical vs horizontal:
vertical is handy if you are on the highway, and want to see the turns coming sooner.
horizontal is better in the city, so you can see the next turns after the next turns, and side streets.
(I like to be able to switch it up)
on the iThing nomenclature... iAnything is silly, unless it is for the iPhone, but it is all marketing. When trying to sell to sheeple (normal non-techie folk) iName sounds like it is high tech, and easy to use. To techie people it sounds silly.

Ahh good point! I never thought of that. I guess I never really use the dock except for on long trips anyways. I don't like leaving the dock attached to the dash so it's not really worth it for me to setup the dock for every single trip.

Thanks for posting this. This car dock is perfect for my needs.

To Be honest. Im glad that it is horizontal for movies n **** but for $40 dollars!! that joint aint to sexy or appealing (Not like the Moto Droids Dock) but it gets the job done.
PREECH NOTE:
For those of u who want that full dock clock experience like the "Motorola DROID 1" go to the Android Market & download the app called
:"Desk Home For Samsung Vibrant". Desh home works with all Samsung special music & video player apps & even work with the "Daily Breifing" app. (The regular stock android "DESK CLOCK" feature will not work on the samsung Vibrant becuz the galaxy S has different music & video players from Stock android 2.1 or 2.2
I hope this was real helpful.
www.BlackFreedomUnity.com Will have Live YouTube Tech Reviews & How To's! from the "THE HOOD HACKER" himself coming soon in chopped & screwed vocals.

Looks like it wouldn't work with a case on the phone. I'll stick to my bent paperclip stand.
The desk dock from Samsung USA is ok, but I still prefer the dock with the integrated speakers. Found it on their launch website.
I really want a dock station but $40 is kind of pricy, for now I am going to try this:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Griffin-Technology-Travel-Stand-iPhone-iPod-Touch/14575863
It says that is for iphone/ipod but I try it on walmart and works good, and if I pod a small case if keep working, not like the original that looks like it wont work with a case.
the good thing is only $13

What's the deal with that? Are they just not releasing that thing? I totally wanted that dock.
So there's no dock with built-in speakers?
not to bash you but that has been on their site for 3 weeks now. it is still listed out of stock, and if you looked at my post earlier, i confirmed with the samsung accessories department that nothing will be officially available for another 3-4 weeks
I don't see a way for this to be used as a car mount, anyway I really want a dock to have my vibran on my desktop, I get so pissed there is so many accessories for the Iphone 4 and no love for out vibrant
I dream about a cnc machine dock and back cover for my vibrant ahhggr!
and why isn't tmobile selling this docks and other accessories for the vibrant, they have all kind of crap for my touch 3g slide
For some reason, not sure why, I doubt that Samsung will be the ones who realize accessories are features. People buy gadgets based on what they can do with them, including dock them, mount them in their car, output to TV without hunting down a mysterious cable.
I think the reason iPhones have so many accessories is, in large part, because they have so many accessories. Out of the box this is proving way too difficult. This is going to bite Samsung in the sales end.
This isn't going to fix the charging issue but this is what I have decided to do for now.
This is for the sound.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CK5XEA/ref=oss_product
Guess I could lean the phone against it.
Make it less than $20 and I will buy.
Still says its sold out unless of course it wasn't earlier.
The iPhone didn't have very many accessories when it first launched either. Watch eBay and search for Galaxy S or Galaxy Vibrant, new stuff is being added almost on a daily basis.
I'm going to order some shape lock (modable plastic) and make my own dock for my car I plan on making it a lot like this dock, but it will surround the phone on three sides, holding it in landscape (add a to to the pictured dock. Between these surrounds, and the friction of the usb connection, that should be enough to hold it in place for most purposes in my car. I Also plan to build in a mic from one of the headsets for speakerphone over the car speakers.

When it launched, the iPhone came bundled with a dock.
Now I just need a bedside Dock or Cradle
Just got the Samsung Vibrant last week, and all my friends that have iPhone 4 are impressed with it, too. It blows away my old iPhone 2G and 3Gs phones.
The only thing missing is a good bedside dock! I always used my iPhone as an alarm clock and the dock was great, along with the snooze button right on top.
I've been waiting for Samsung to come out with it's official dock, but I'm tired of holding my breath for that one.
I got a black elago S2 stand (I'd post a link, but new posters apparently aren't allowed to here). While it holds the phone well for watching movies, it tends to fall over with the micro-usb charger plugged in, or when I clumsily try to turn off the alarm in the morning. So I'm looking for a more stable one.
Has anybody tried this one: ezestand
or this one: Samsung Desktop Cradle with Integrated Cable Channels- Original (OEM) ET-CS01SBEGXAR
Again, sorry for the lack of links.
The sad thing about our phone is the retarded plug on top. I mean common that limits us to zero aftermarket docks unless they lay on their side.

Well.. you COULD put it upside down
LOL, I thought about that earlier.
Anyone know if Samsung ever actually had the docks in stock, or were they out from the beginning? It's just surprising to me that they're now hyping all the Galaxy phones like crazy, yet aren't doing a thing about the accessories.

Car Mount

Considering the Incredible's Car Mount wasn't great... any ideas on good car mounts for the Thunderbolt? I figure there should be plenty of options out there because it has the same form factor/size as the Desire HD and Evo.
I'm looking for something easy... maybe two magnets, attach one to the back piece of a two-piece case and use it to attach it to a magnet stuck onto your car's dashboard? Anyone have a setup like this currently?

If motorola didn't happen to patent their magnet method that they used on their droid models, I would assume it would be a similar, if not the same method...
I think the magnet is standard, my htc eris, and fascinate worked by magnents
A general observation, here - if you want a bodaciously well built mount, look at Ram-mount . I have one in my Civic with two heads I can swap - 1 for iPad, one universal cell/pda.
Not cheap, in construction OR price...

I had no idea the Eris or Fascinate had magnetic switches or any way of knowing they were docked automatically.
I know the HTC Incredible has no magnetic switching or anyway of knowing its docked, basically there isn't an automatic dock mode on the Incredible at all.

No,, it seemed to dock fine. Make sure you snap it behind the top overlap piece. I was very pleased that it did not cover the camera and the it has the usb mount. Charging the OG Droid while in the dock was a real pain. I shot some video with it docked this AM and it performed fine. The road was not real smooth so it picked up the bumps, but it beats me trying to hold it.
I can second and third the HTC dock is awesome. I'm coming from an original, then v2 droid dock.
There are a couple of things though.
1. You really have to jam the phone on the right side(by the usb) in the dock to get car dock to come up. Its super tight. You'll actually hear a click once you get it in far enough.
2. You can't get back into car mode if you exit out without redocking.
3. You can't dock the phone if you have any cases and such.
4. I can't seem to change any of the icon choices they give you. I'd much prefer a more "stock" car/home experience. There are a couple other minor annoyances I have with the "dock" program they use in general but it does work well.
Verizon has a car mount just like the OG Droid, it automatically turns the phone into a navigation, it only cost 30, I saw it yesterday, it has the magnets.
I might like a car dock if it fit my phone with the innocase on it.

Any word on a car dock?

I use my Thunderbolt for GPS a lot. I love the sturdy car dock that HTC sells for it. Any word of a car doc for the Nexus?
Also, surprisingly, one of the things I find very useful on the Thunderbolt is the flip out stand. I thought this was a gimmick but find myself using it frequently. Would I need to buy a case to get this on a Nexus?
I'll just make another DIY one as per my GSII and Desire ones. I have a guide on LifeHacker which was posted a few times on this forum
There's going to be an official car dock from Samsung. MSRP is $49. It will take advantage of the dock connector on the side of the device. So you should expect to keep your phone in landscape mode.

Yes, the dock connector (micro USB) for the Thunderbolt is on the side also. There's nothing inherent in a side connector that sets orientation to landscape. Generally car mounts allow rotation in portrait or landscape.

The dock connector I'm speaking of is not the microusb port. It's 3 contacts used for specific accessories. The links posted above show how you'll always be in landscape.
I can't help it but I love all the docks. I always get the car and desk dock for all my phones. I use my phone daily as my alarm clock and like the desk dock to see the time, and car dock for gps/music. I assume they will have both, seems like a staple now adays.

Well that's all you need in a car dock. I don't use the usb/hdmi plugs on my X, but I could understand people would be bit put off if they can't use them in the home dock.
What I really want is inductive charging support. Then a car mount with inductive charging so I'd never have to a car specific mount again.
Two pins are for charging and the third tells it which dock mode to go into (at least this is how it was on the N1 and the MyTouch 4G). If the middle pin is grounded it's a desk dock, and if it's around 3.3v it goes into car dock mode. It was also suspected that a signal was sent over that middle pin to tell it which bluetooth device to pair to for audio.
On the N1 car dock, there was no audio out, but it had speakers built in. The desk dock did have 3.5mm audio out. In both cases a connection was made via bluetooth (automatically) to transmit the signal. Now that NFC is available, I'm curious if they'll change some of this.
Looking forward to getting a good quality car dock to go with this phone.

It would be odd not to have a landscape call orientation since the dock pins are on the side making it a landscape dock.
Odd or not it's never been possible in Android except for a few custom mods here and there.

No audio out for these docks? Am I the only one that likes to dock my phone and also have it play music?
I had that option with the Atrix, until the cable split. Then I couldn't find a replacement cable anywhere. Full-size USB, mini-USB and 3.5mm audio. I need this three-pronged cable!

What HideYoKids said, I'm also surprised of the lack of interest for a line-out from those docks, line-out sounds a lot better than bluetooth streaming! Is there an MHL accessory that can charge and give an audio line-out via 3.5mm cable? I can do without the charging as well, anyone?

Philips Fidelio Android Docks

Has anybody had any experience with these newer android docks that Best Buy is now carrying? They have two different models and the Nexus sits on them pretty well but the displays were non functioning so I was not able to test the speaker quality. Overall they got pretty decent reviews on the Best Buy website, but the accompanying software on the google market appears to have quirks.
Any experiences would be nice to hear!

That alarm clock looks nice. Thanks for the heads up.. what are the alarm options (music, buzzer, radio)? Does it support multiple alarms?

best buy also has the as351 which is in between the two. The biggest difference is that it has the option to use batteries so you can take it with you. I dont like the app that you use with it. It always tries to connect when you plug it to any power source. I just pair it and turn on bluetooth when i connect it. It doesnt have to stay docked to play music since its bluetooth.
i use alarm clock plus to come one when it plugs in though i am afraid of burn in on the soft keys so i end up turning the screen off.
it fits great with diztronic rev 3.0 on but does not fit with the cruzerlite tpu andy cases. It was on sale for 85 2 weeks ago. The as351 is great if you want something more than the smaller one but would like something to take with you on the road. Here is also he as851 that has a rechargable battery but is only at frys or amazon and is 200 bucks.
I have the big grand daddy of them all, the AS851. And its a beast! I was looking for something on the same par as a Harmon Kardon Iphone dock one of my family members bought but there isnt a lot out there for android. Sure you can get a set of external speakers but they don't look as attractive, cant charge and isnt as compact. Plus it has the option to play through an aux cable which will fix any imperfections found when using bluetooth. It also has a second USB slot on the rear of the device for charging of multiple devices.
Although the price tag is up there, I HIGHLY recommend this dock, and any of the other Fidelio docks. The sound quality is pretty damn good (Especially with a proper EQ and bass boost) and can hold its own with the upper crust of the slew of iphone docks.
My only two big complaints with the device are mainly minor. For one, I have yet to find a case that will properly fit the dock. The micro-usb connector is just a hair too thin and is unable to reach the port in order for it to charge. The other gripe is the Fidelio app. Just avoid it. Its not terrible but the stock player or other higher rated music app will work just fine. I want the app to work since there is some minor integration with the remote (And I hate not being able to use every button on the remote!) which is essentially untouched.
Good luck with the decisions guys! I adore my dock and ABSOLUTELY recommend it to anyone who uses a lot of music or just a casual listener. For the hardcore audiophiles, you might find a few flaws, but even you will find a way to love the dock. Just not the price

Hmmm, I dont have that case, but I may try it. So far the Cruzer Lite Android one seems the closest compared to the Verizon Incipio and Beyond Cellular Duo Hybrid. I REALLY wish the Duo Hybrid worked though, that is a truly AWESOME case!

The diztronic rev 3.0 has a very similar fit to the cruzer lite. I have the smoke grey transparent and the glossy black which I use most of the time. The ports on the bottom are a bit more open that allow it to sit on the speaker dock better. At least on the AS351 though. I assume that it should be silmiar to the as851

Thanks man. How well does it function as an alarm? Is the LED clock bright or real dim?

It is an extremely loud alarm! Led is not bright, but bright enough.

Thanks! Think I'll be picking one of these up soon.
I have had an issue with my Fidelio dock: the USB charging connection seems to be flaky. When I plug it in, sometimes it shows as charging and sometimes it doesn't. At first I thought it was a software thing (the dock was turning the power on and off to try to get the Fidelio app to launch on the phone) but I've come to think it's a physical problem with the plug. Sometimes it switches state when I wiggle it, or even just walk by.
Anybody else noticed behavior anything like this? It certainly limits the dock's utility.
I have the exact same problem with mine (AS140) It seems like it's just random when it wants to charge... Kinda disappointing, but I mainly use it for Bluetooth media playback, so It's not a huge deal, but still annoying.

I noticed the USB port doesn't charge unless something is plugged onto the microUSB? I can't charge my iphone unless my nexus is sitting on the dock. Is that right? It shouldn't be like that in my opinion.
just got one of the middle ones of these a few days ago.
Whilst the fidelio software is pretty laggy you can use it very easiily just via bluetooth. i use it as a bedroom alarm clock and im very impressed. so much so im thinking of getting the big one for the kitchen
nice to finally see some android docks coming through ......
and for those claiming dodgy connections on the dock i assume you have lowered the stand using the 'wheels' to allow for any case you have ? mine sits on perfectly even using an s-line cover.
anyone try this one from ihome? I cant decided either this or one of the phillips models.
it looks interesting

Please do a mini review when you get it.
Wasn't Apple's justification for redesigning their dock connectors and not going with the USB standard that USB can't do this?

Well.... they also never really felt that a larger screen on a phone was needed, nor that a sub-10" tablet was wanted, sooooooo.....

our phones already can output music via the micro usb port. it works through the multimedia dock and any usb OTG adapter. I think i'll be ordering one of these myself.

Lol, true. I figured it was Apple BS, just to keep a proprietary connector so their sheep pays a premium to them. I just can't figure out why some people are happy to bend over for Apple with a smile on their face singing its praises.
I have the iBolt cable from Amazon and I can confirm this works and now I dont have to unplug any cables to take bluetooth calls from my car. Only problem is, its sold out right now.

$5 infuse car dock
Just bought 3 of the infused car docks right after i bought this cable. I couldn't pass up 5$ car dock and the women just bought a att GS3. Oh well i'll let yall know how it goes with the cable vs the dock(if it ships).
Also anyone know why this wouldn't work with the note 2(it says it doesnt in the title) I thought the gs3 and note2 are pretty much the same when it comes to connections
Can someone with the ibolt or this cable can verify if it automatically enables "dock mode" ?
I am looking to use the cable in my car (no bluetooth) and been using phone headphone to aux input but apparently that forces s3 noise reduction OFF which during calls gives off echo to the other party (they hear themselves). With "dock mode" enabled the phone automatically turns off ear and phone speakers and keep the noise reduction ON, solving the echo issue I hope.
you guys sure audio out works? via microusb and puts the phone into car mode / dock ?
The best place to purchase that cable is on our Amazon site just like you saw. It is on back order right now but should be back in soon.
Also, I just wanted to let you know that the cable will only work with the dock for the Galaxy S3. You can plug it into the phone, but it will only charge it. You need the dock to use all the features and benefits that it offers. You can purchase the entire kit on our Amazon site. The product number is IBPF-33307.
Have a great weekend.

I don't think anyone has received their order yet but the ebay customers left positive reviews after they bought the cable. I received my three infuse car docks yesterday audio output works you have to select it in the accessories setting but there isn't much of a car dock mood besides horizontal home screen

I have the iBolt cable and I can confirm audio out works through micro usb. Only problem Ive found was the cable is 9ft long and i had to zip tie it and its ugly as fuq.
It enables dock mode.
yes please post a review I would love to order this cable and use it with my universal dock. My car does not have bluetooth or a usb port. So what i'm hoping to do is use the usb and plug it in my cig lighter slot (has USB ports) and then the 3.5mm jack in the aux out.
I'm hoping i can use the car speakers for music and to take calls (using built-in mic in S3), Hopefully it works and does not have any echo.
I actually build such a cable for my GS2 a while ago, it worked great. I guess it should work with the Galaxy S3 also.

Apple also thinks that any kind of drive that you can burn disc with or back up on or transfer data from on their devices is soooooo Yesterday's technology, that they removed the optic drive...lol...I think that they ran out of design Ideas and needed space to change the look of the Same Ole Same Ole...LOL

If that was true then how are the iphones etc plugging into vehicle sound systems and playing pod crap???....lol....
Nah, that's how you listen to music in newer vehicles with Infotainment systems etc, usb cord to Music player etc or usb flash....In fact Samsung has teamed up with Radio manufactures and the S3 is able to Mirror everything the phone can do onto the screen in your cars.....Samsung calls their app Drive Link....Technology is called Mirror Link...
Thanks for the link, just ordered one .
Hope it arrives, cause i always seem to get extremely slow deliveries
My phone calls aren't coming through the infuse car dock(which should be the same as the ebay cable) is there a setting I'm missing? Also what's the best app for auto starting apps/settings once it's in car dock mode?

Tasker(google play) or using an NFC tag and one of the apps you can get from google play that works with NFC.
I can confirm that it works. Audio-out via USB is something that's been around for quite some time. Samsung's own OEM charging cradle also has an audio-out in the back. I am using one of these cables wired up to a 2.1A USB out inside the car to quickly charge the phone, and using the tip/ring wire leads to feed into my AUX input in the car (when BlueTooth is disabled).
The "geniuses" at Apple will tell you otherwise, so you can fork out $30-40 for a "new" proprietary adapter....and also put in a decoder chip so no aftermarket company can make chargers without Apple's licensing and consensus. Scandalous bastards, but it's the American way--and there are people willing to pay the premium. Long-live Capitalism. sigh....
