apple apps for my htc evo? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys I'm farley new to this HTC stuff so you would have to talk to me like a third grader as I don't know jack sh*t. But I'm a Mma guy an I found these awesome apps on b.j.j on the Apple app store. Is there any way I can get access to them for my HTC evo4g?

No. Your Evo isn't an apple.

Pretty much, NO. Actually, completely? NO. Sorry, but those apps are not compatible. Not even close. Best bet is to try to persuade developers to make an Android version, but smaller developers may not want to, especially if they don't know Java. Android is really nice to code for (other than Java), so everyone should pick it up, but iPhone apps have to be ported by their developers to Android. There's pretty much no other way around it.

Thanks guys. With this union job I my aswell buy a ipod touch then

What Superlinkx said is the best way to do it.
If you really like an app and you can find their website on the Internet, there are usually ways to contact the developers. If you write to them and tell them you are a big fan of their app, but you have an Android phone, it might help them see that there is a market on Android and they might make the app sooner.
Because this year has seen so much growth on Android, you can expect many developers to take advantage of both markets, unless they don't like money
Hope this helps!

Android Market

Any one think the android market lay out and set up is **** every time I go on to it its always the same old ****e Top Free Top Paid its all ****e the apps never change, I think they should have a shake up so you can do a search on top rated, higest price, lowest price, most comments, newest apps, oldest apps,multi-player etc just change the way you can search altogether.
Does any one else agree or is it just me?
Give us a vote and comment
+1 for it being crap I installed Appbrain which is better but far from what you describe
Yes its crap. With all the money Google have got, you'd think it would be better.
keep the comments and votes comin in
I agree, I expect much better market.
Yes, it's not that advanced.
Totally agree with you guys.
Most of the stuff on there is crap and there are lots of apps that do the same bloody thing.
aye its not brilliant but its far better than the microsoft market or whatever it was called on my htc touch hd

I agree but MS didn't have anywhere near as many apps that were any good.
The only things that were good on MS's market place were facebook/twitter/SPB shell.
the rest of it was garbage.
although I guess this will eventually change with WP7 and get better when they buy some people to develop apps for it...
+1
I'm all for an open market. But there REALLY needs to be a way to Filter/Dispose of the minefield of Porn Apps and XXX Photo Galleries finding their way on.
I'm all for freedom of choice, but don't need it on every other app
KYI
An overhaul would be nice for sure, it seems weird with such focus on Apps in order to ensure success of the Android platform that there seems to be little focus on the market.
The interface needs a change, some customization options, an most importantly they really need to hurry with the paid market for all countries! We in Denmark and probably a bunch of other countries are still waiting for paid apps.
I know there is brilliant alternatives to the market place, but seeing how many Android activations we see daily, they really need to focus some energy on the market, but I suspect it will have a major overhaul with the come of Gingerbread.
I don't believe Android cannot compete to its full extent with Apple until its marketplace delivers the same quality while differentiating its product by supporting the openness of the market.

I think that they need to charge everyone in their local currency as otherwise people get charged oversees fees by the banks for converting it.

Windows Phone Seven port?

Hi, this is more of a opinion question than a 'question' question. Hopefully the great devs in the forum see this and find a way to port it. Please vote in the poll and if you have an opinion to say please write them. Just respect other members. Your opinions such as "why would you want a port?" Aren't really Nessecary.
Thanks
Most of your options don't make "sense", so I can't vote!
Whilst it may be possible to port WP7 to the Desire hardware, your first two poll options are to port WP7 to Android which is nonsensical!
Personally, from what I've seen of WP7 so far, there is nothing that makes me want to move away from Android at present, but that doesn't preclude it happening in the future. However, if I did want to move to WP7, I'd almost certainly buy a phone dedicated to it rather than attempt to cobble together something on an Android phone.

Dave

even if it was possible, which it's NOT, none of the developers here would do it as its ILLEGAL, we dont own a LICENCE for wp7, it would be no diffrent to distributing PIRATE copy's of windows 7....
indeed, most of us here bought an android device because we wanted to customise our phones or because we got tired and annoyed with other OSes(especially WM, urg...!{yeah, I know I have the HD2, it pisses me off...=.="'}), but if there are any developers porting WP7, I'd like to see it emulated only.
Oh, I didn't know it was illegal. Guess no one would port it then. But maybe a good emulator would be nice. I wish I had bought a HD2 now...
Given that Windows Phone 7 is not Windows Mobile, it would probably technically be illegal to run it on an HD2 too, though since you'd have effectively paid some kind of licence fee to MS, they would be more likely to turn a blind eye I guess!
It's by no means certain that it would be any easier though!

Dave

that would be down to microsofts discretion, previously they havent made much of an issue out of us porting newer versions of windows mobile to, older windows mobile devices, and imo i dont think they would start now, ie porting wp7 to the HD2 ect.... but i cant see them sitting back and letting people port wp7 to a device with no microsoft licence all together. they didnt get to be the biggest company in the world by letting things like that slide
Why would you want to anyway?
Personally I don't even like the look of WP7 interface. Some nice features but it just looks a bit naff to me!

i watched the wp7 keynote speach yesterday and was quite impressed, the people hub and the office hub both look very impressive, and as an xbox live gamer, the games hub looks awsome things i dont like about it are, it seems more of a feature phone than a smart phone, and like the iphone its very ms orientated, i dont like that, you can use android without even knowing google develop it

[Q] Soooooo... what are the chances of wm7 coming to our android devices?

The final devices just got announced, devs will probably take a swing at it, AND ive seen some wm7 dumps going around the forum. sooooo... what do you all think? i'd love to have a play with this, just like every other ZOMG-NEW-UI-I-GOTS-TO-HAVE! guy here haha
is there already some work going on?
Zero chance, It would be illegal to do so as the license is sold with the device,
Just for fun?

I don't want it on my phone... WP7 has the ugliest UI I've ever seen. Some animations and transitions looks cool but other than that it just makes wanna throw up!
im more into it for the social interaction, the way facebook integrates and everything, it looked pretty good in all the demos..

Yeah. Stupid laws... It's no different than someone stealing your car.
I suppose if someone wanted to, they could create a customized launcher and a bunch of other apps that looked like wm7, but I fail to see the point.

who cares about wm7?
m$ is afraid about android...
the only thing that i don't understand is why a wm phone and an android phone have the same prices with similar hardware...
when you buy the phone you pay the licence too... android phones must cost less then a wm phone...
or not?

First of all, I believe the phone manufacturers still pay a fee to Google for the GApps.
Secondly, it's all about profit margins - Android is attractive to companies like HTC because they likely make more money per unit than they would if they use WP7.

Damn, Craigslist here I come. The HD2 is awesome.
This is amazing... Only thing that would scare me is Microsoft finding out. We've seen how strict they can be with their policies, especially taking actions towards your Live account on Xbox... So I'd hate for this to lead to some accounts becoming suspended or penalized for using "hacked consoles" in a way...
Other than that, this is great... This is why I keep my older phones... Of course this is no use to me, but it gives HD2 users new life... Let's see how many of them stop bashing WP7 now that they have it

They can't touch you if you have Android on it. That's one reason I want to go with Android on my HD7 rather than do temporary hacks on it. But having a WP7 device, I have no desire to use it on my HD2. It just isn't that good to me now that the newness has work off.
I hope microsoft finds a way to block this quickly, just gonna lead to more hacking, then comes free paid apps, then comes a lack of good developers due to no financial plus-side, then comes the OS being just a prettier version of android....

I was referring to the HD2 with WP7 as the hacked console... Hopefully the people who use it don't get hammered by Microsoft

Be careful, don't say this too loud, I was just attacked by some very close-minded users in another thread about it... People just don't understand, Microsoft doesn't have Apples marketing ability to overcome the blast that will come from all of these hacks. Even if you were being sarcastic, couldn't tell.
But I do think this is good for the HD2 users, at least it gives them hope for the expensive device some of them are bound to.
Nah, I'm 100 percent serious. I support third party applications no problem but getting paid apps for free is crap. Who wants to dev for a platform that can get their games for free?

Ask MS about Windows? All versions? Ask developers about any platform? It isn't that big of a deal.

And every one of them continues to try and fix their holes. Unfortunately most OSes had crap security to work off of to begin with and its hard building on top of crap. Windows had fair security and im hoping they can fend off the people getting free apps at least for the Xbox live games or else we may never get ports of our favorite games to WP7

I don't think it has anything to do with getting paid apps free. Android has some of the best games going that people are ripping off right and left and devs continue to develop for it.
this has nothing to do with hacking apps , the code they use will be connected to the live account they use.
the os isn't hacked , only ms his market place on the pc hacked to download app's to the pc (they can fix it 10 sec, so don't ask me way they didn't fixed it)
you can see the hd2 got a legal update (not cracked what so ever ) from a illegal place

Apple has so much apps for every single thing i know why every1 has it

Apple has so much apps for every single thing i know why every1 has it coz no matter wat app u look for u will find
i know windows phone 7 is getting there but i was searching for app and i found it but guess wat its on iphone n ipad but not phone 7. the app description is below if a developer want to make it
MyEmpire
MyEmpire is the premiere mobile interface to the popular "Empire Avenue" social stock market that allows you to buy and sell shares in your favourite social media contacts!
The app gives you full access to your portfolio, the ability to buy and sell, update your status, research new Empire Avenue users, read your latest notifications, and access the full profiles of your shareholders as well as the players you've invested in!
Want to see MyEmpire in action? Search for "MyEmpire" on YouTube.
they cant even make a live messenger like the one on windows mobile 6.5
dont get me wrong i love phone 7 but apps will make it good and better
WP7 is NEW!!!! Amazing, I know.
You have 5 options.
1 Contact the developers and ask if a WP7 port is likely,
2 Find and pay someone to develop it for you,
3 Learn to develop and make your own,
4 buy an iphone or
5 Complain about it on message boards and do nothing else about it.
Have a nice day
Everyday there is one muppet who complains about wp7, either they are moving away from wp7 or they dont have the right features. you should have done your reserach and not to blame wp7, its a great os, persoanly the best, yes its behind but its new. where was iphone at this time, kits already has more apps than anyother os during the same time span. if you want to complain pay for a shrink.
tools, and tools
there was just a tool released by ms to port ios applications to wp7. I don't think you'll see much effort from ios developers though, since the payoff from wp7 users would be almost insignificant.
ping the developer and see what they say?

Being easy to develope to WP7 have been made to be easy, and MS is having seminars and learn people how to do so. Even if there was no option coming to easily convert apps to WP7, im curious to why they wouldnt?
WP7 users seems to be more then ready to open the wallet (reports say there are developers earning more money on WP7 version compared to Andriod version). So why wouldn't someone want to make money? And lets not forget that a real hit on Marketplace now will destinguish them from other Marketplace apps so the oppertunity alone should be a reason for fame or money or both?
So is it just pure hate from iPhone developers, fanboyism or what ever?
Just curious to hear why you make a statement like that?
I don't know where the problem is with the opener's post. He said he was missing an App and told what it was all about so if someone wanted to do such an App he would know what it was about.
In a swiss forum recently a guy posted about a little tool he would need and several Dev's decided to remove the problem and the App was done by the end of the weekend and should arrive in the Marketplace shortly.
If devs don't know what people want we'll just be seeing more whitescreen torches in the Marketplace that none of us need.
