[Q] (Idea) Screen Protector to remove branding - Captivate Accessories

So I was thinking about a way to remove the branding so that we could have sexy, logoless captivates like seen in the youtube videos. Would it be possible to create a screen protector that is black, except with a clear transparent windows where the screen would be? Take this black decal sticker for example Logoless Decal The faceplate decal in this setup does not protect the screen, as the window is cutout where the decal goes over the screen. Does anyone know of a company that could do something like that? High quality screen protector that is mostly black but with a transparent middle?

That would be great. I'd definitely dish out $4.99 for it

I might buy one, just for the front panel. I already have a body guardz setup, but I bet I might be able to place the front over it.

That is what I did, and it fit very well, but it also looked very tacky. That is why I was wondering if it would be possible to make it as one piece. Seems like a solid idea, but I don't of any place that can do it.

Samsung captivate case from Skinomi

Has anyone bought the case at amazon called Skinomi. It has a full body screen protector n a case,bt the picture has the phone with the speaker covered. Anyone know about it

If you mean the "carbon fiber" Skinomi case + screen protector, I was thinking about that myself but wanted to see some reviews first. I'm also uncertain as to whether this is actually a case or just a textured skin. I'd prefer a case as skins are a bit of a pain to get to stick to the curved parts.

Same here, I would like to get some close up pics + review on it.
I want to verify the technicality of Skinomi carbon fiber's case.
I just ordered it from Amazon, so I will let you know!
I have been using the full skinomi set for the captivate for over 1 week now. I would be more than happy to detail my opinion of it.
The basic version is that its a good buy and I am glad I got it. I only use the skin kit and do not have a hard case. My phone stays in a phone/cargo pocket daily and the skin is holding up to the constant sliding in and out of my pockets along with desk nightstand sliding.
PROS:
Touch sensitivity and screen clarity are unaffected. Still bright and clear.
Does not effect proximity/light sensor.
Holding up well to normal/heavy use.
Good alternative for those who don't like cases.
Very thin and unobtrusive.
Good product packaging and instructions.
CONS:
Though the skin is thin and hard to see, you can feel the edges(specifically on the phone sides).
Fingerprints show more easily.
No camera lens protection.
I'm scared to scratch my new skinomi skin.
Detailed version follows:
I purchased through amazon for $18.99 which was a dollar less than the manufacturer website. The box was smaller than I expected from the pictures but still nicely packaged. You immediately feel as though it is a good product. A small bottle of detergent/water is provided along with skin, instructions and a rigid smoothing card. The skin came precut on two pieces of paper. Each section fit very precises and needed no modification. The instructions provided were clear and simple and I suggest following them closely.
I wiped the phone with a lent free cloth and made sure my hands were very clean prior to installation. I suggest a location with good lighting (i chose the bathroom counter).
During the process you are instructed to moisten your fingers then remove a section of skin from the paper for application. You then moisten the front and back(adhesive side) of the skin with the provided spray. I found that the screen section was the only one that benefits by spraying the front. This helps to reduce friction when smoothing out the bubbles and liquid. Otherwise you may run out of the spray. I barely had enough but I was very liberal with the spray.
The biggest and best caution I can give...Take your time between the applications of each section. Push out the moisture and allow the material to begin adhering before attempting the next section. If you do not you will end up with misaligned sections of skin. It only takes about 2 minutes for each section to begin to stick if you push out the liquid.
After all is applied, let the phone sit for several hours. Do not try to wipe off the outside of the skin or turn the phone on. Allow drying and set time before handling. Manufacturer suggests 12-24 hours. I was comfortable turning the phone on and using it gently after 4 hours. 12 hours later I was comfortable with heavy use.
It has been one week and I have decided to get the Skinomi kit for my sons aria.
Hope this helps anyone interested.
Pictures please

Yes, you have access to all panels, buttons, and plugs. The kit comes with a total of 8 pieces:
Screen
Top (usb/headphone)
Bottom (mic)
Left side(volume)
Right side (battery)
Battery cover
Upper back plate
Lower back plate (battery release).
NOTE - I can only speak for my experience with the CAPTIVATE version of skinomi.
not to bad, i prefer a case over a skin on my phone tho

I do not mind taking a picture, however my camera here at the house is dead and I do not believe taking a picture will show anything. You can not tell that the skin is there. It is so thin and clear that when I show someone my phone in person I have to point out the slight color difference around the "Galaxy S" logo.
you can FEEL the skin but you can not SEE it. Just fits that nice.

Well then, no need for pics. My bad.
Either way my experience with skinomi is positive and hopefully that helps in your decision.
I'll be getting out of the way now...
If you're referring to: http://www.amazon.com/Skinomi-TechS..._1_1?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1281820381&sr=8-1
It's a skin, not a case, as I just found out when I opened the box. Haven't decided whether or not I'm going to keep it, as I was expecting a case as well.
Other than being carbon fiber, it is exactly as shovelhead84 described: 8 pieces which are akin to sticked that you apply to your phone.
Um, are you sure that was the URL you meant to paste? It appears to be a campground somewhere.

Yeah, your link goes to google maps for a vamping ground.
You are correct in that i is not a case but a skin for the phone. .08mm thick allows it to fit under most cases and in pouches, but I think that would be a bit redundant.
It's been 2 weeks now with my skinomi and its going well. I damaged the lower microphone portion of the skin when a monitor at work was set on my phone. Didn't scratch the phone and only damaged a portion of the skinomi.
So far I have not had any scratches develop on the screen protector and I have NOT been gentle with my phone.
My bad, link updated (http://www.amazon.com/Skinomi-TechS..._1_1?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1281820381&sr=8-1)
I just applied the above skin to my phone. No troubles with applying the carbon fiber di-noc pieces (dont use the solution) , the clear screen and button protector sections are a little cloudy (hoping this goes away?)
The biggest gripe I have is that the "skin" doesnt protect the corners of the device, which imo are most likely to be worn.
I ordered one, I was sort of hoping their web site stating it was dry application meant it was a sleeve or case. Was it difficult to align and remove bubbles? I can can't see any seams at all in the photos, so I imagine the pieces come quite close to the edges.

zagg, invisible shield and replacement case.

So I had the maximum cover on my phone. BUt it was an awkward fit, the slim side panels fell off. The back covers I had to cut a line down the middle to get it to fit on the curve. The corners where I had the slits eventually came loose and flapped about.
But I left it all on untill I got fed up after it turned my nice white phone a lovely shade of brown, so now it's currently defenceless apart from a cover on the screen.
Anybody know what the full body protection is like?
It has less parts but looks like the back may be a better fit. I get a free replacement from zagg but wondering which one poeple recomend?
On an other note anyone change their phones entire outer cover? fancy a change to a black phone!
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130553746...AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_1155wt_991
I would get one with just the back cover but then the silver tones from the front won't match. Unless someone can anyone reccomend one?
I've looked at the phone and it appears to take off the front you need to unscrew a screw which has a "void warranty" sticker over it, but guessing I've done this already with changing the OS to cyanogenmod.
I have the full body Zagg cover, pics here: http://capableandroid.blogspot.com/2010/10/zagg-invisibleshield.html
After almost an year some corners have come loose and filled with dust, but the middle and bottom parts are ok.
As for the case.. I can`t comment, I have a brown-grey one and I`m fine with it. (i still use a gel case, just in case.)
Looks different to the one I had. I see you have no protection over the corners, for my case I have to make a slit over them so the case was eventually overlapped. Mine has only lasted 6months...if that. Was horibbly discoloured. It's done the job though. Shame about the odd bits that havn't been protected. Never noticed the marks before since I took off the old shield.
I bought the Zagg invisible shield maximum cover but havin't applied it yet, doesn't sound very good. Is the screen protector ok and is the fluid you use to apply it safe, can it stain or discolour the phone, thanks.

The fluid is save. If you, by any change, get fluid IN the phone, just leave it to dry for a day or two before putting in the battery.
OK, thanks for the advice.

Protector for chrome on camera

is there any type of screen protector material for the chrome on the camera? I hear it gets scratched very easily
Maybe Zagg will make one. Most reviewers see how it scratches so easy.
AT&T will sell the Zagg full body at least. I'm going to try to cut out a custom fit from reg screen protector.
That's a pretty small piece to protect. Knowing Zagg, it'll be $10 + shipping for just that piece.
Alternatively, you can get a silicon skin for the whole phone which I heard fits pretty snug and doesn't add a lot of bulk.
I just bought the gel case and it keeps the back of the phone off the objects you lay it on

food wrap film will do it
I bought the skinomi carbon fiber full body screen protector. It protects every part of the phone including the chrome. Got if from amazon. Might be something to consider.

Awesome idea.... Gonna go and do that now. Thanks man!
The store employees repeatedly offered me a "cleaning pad" that stuck to the back side of the phone. They put it on the camera metal. They would come take it off to wipe the screen and then just replace it on the back over the camera metal again.
I just got the Skinomi carbon fiber full body screen protector, and slapped it on. It looks good, but the quality of the clear screen protector is pretty bad. Not as noticeable when the phone is on, but could be much better. The warranty is lifetime, so I might get another. The carbon look parts look really good, and should protect against normal use.
. Ps, the clear screen protector hadn't dried yet. Now it looks fine. The carbon look is pretty cool..
The guys on this thread who have the Skinomi full body protectors, can you post some photos of it applied to the phone?
I'm in the UK and have a white 900,so I want to see which bits of the phone don't get covered by the skin as the bright white would be very noticable if there are fitment gaps.
I'm actually on my 2nd handset in a week as the buttons on the first one were loose and rattly. However, on that first handset the camera chrome got scuffed in just 2 days even though I kept the phone wrapped in a screen cleaning cloth. I've left the OEM protective film on my new one until I have something permanent, just like the OP has asked for.
As selection of colours for a chrome protector would be cool too. Hopefully someone will come up with this on eBay before long In the meantime I'll cut up a 'generic' screen protector into a make-shift skin for the chrome.
IGG full body protector also covers the chrome on the camera. The only cutout on the back cover is for the camera lens hole and the LED flash hole.
I'm using mine under the black cover so the shiny look isn't a bother for me. Just looking to protect the back from being scratched by the case (or debris that gets between the OEM case and the phone body) which I've seen happen on an N9.
I'm going to make one from a spare screen protector I have. I've just checked an the camera hole is the same size as you get from a hole-punch....so I've got a screen protecter here with me in the office today
Here's my temporary solution, a Nokia cover, a strip of electrical tape and a hole punch.
I'll try to get a decent one cut out so that I don't need to cover it up with the bumper. I may also see if a printing company I've worked with in the past would be able to knock up a few sheets of clear, single-coloured and maybe patterns or designs. Chances are it'll be too expensive, but it can't hurt to ask the question.
Bleh. The chrome on my camera is all scratched up. I hate how it's curved.

Orzly with lights out

Bought the orzly black for my black /dark htc 10, fitted perfectly.. I'd asked before if there were cutouts for the buttons and was told No!
Well ...... There is and it looks a bit stupid in the light, i almost want to colour them in a bit to hide them..
If you want perfection like me, this isn't it, but. It is the only tempered screen protector that fits full screen and has 100% coverage,if you have the original layout then fair enough, just I don't
Just a shame about the buttons.
PS: I have a mod which turns off the lights and moves back to recent and vice versa, so seeing cut outs for them is a downer.
I finally got the Orzly for my 10 and have to agree with you that the cut outs are weird.
They make it look very cheap and knock off like, I am OK with it but would prefer something else (though unsure what else would be better).
Everything does line up a treat though, impressed by that.
I'm considering ordering one of these, can you post a photo of the buttons?

Yea it fits very well, possible to put something over or under them, if it's over them then it would have to be hard wearing as it'd soon rub off from pressing the buttons.
As far as I know there are no tempered glass edge to edge covers, I've looked long and hard, some have images showing their protectors as if they do, but they don't.
This is the closest. A marker may work but it'd be temporary.
Either that or embrace the lights, personally I swap back and recent which is why its such a killer for me. Guess I'll have to get used to it. Should have painted them before fitting.
Here's my mod for swapping the buttons.

It seems there are two versions and I'm not sure what's meant by cutouts - do you mean actual holes in the glass? My Orzly cover has transparent squares in the black paint over the button areas and it doesn't look that bad to me.

Yes they are what I'm referring to, they do look alright, however as I've said before I switch my buttons so back is recent and vice versa, I've also turned the lights from the buttons completely off so it looks right, these cut outs look terrible for my needs. Not the end of the world but definitely a blemish on a what is otherwise a a sleek looking cover.

My Orzly glass comes with the cutout in the tempered glass. And the oily film is visible beneath the tempered glass except when the screen is ON. But the main issue is the rainbow effect it displays allover the screen whenever we encounter a white colour in screen. I regret purchasing this tempered glass.

Thee Best Screen Protector!!!

Hey guys! Just thought I'd share my experience trying to hunt down the best screen protector for my Galaxy S10e.
After trying about 4 different glass protectors all with pinch hole camera cut outs and being dis satisfied with the look and feel of the edges I decided to try one that came with a solid glass that covered the front entirely. It also had a super thin black boarder that I wasn't entirely convinced I was going to like.
Turns out it is AMAZING!! Phone looks literally as if there is nothing on. Edges are completely smooth so no more scratchy feeling whenever I slide my finger to use the edge display or gesture navigations.
Totally felt I had to share this! You can search for it on Amazon! :highfive:

Sorry wasn't sure if I could share a link i just added it to the OP. Yes it is case friendly and I belive the black border covers a super small part of the screen that is a fraction of a millimeter. When using edge lighting all you need to do is increase the thickness a bit.
However it does not get in the way at all and from my experience it is way better than other screen protectors I have tried that have transparent as they reflect the light at angles. Also the borders look terrible during the day, you can clearly trace it with your eye. This one literally reflects no light and looks like if there is nothing on it at all (the black border provides this effect)
Furthermore, this one comes with a plastic frame that makes placement and alignment such a breeze!
Hope that helps!

Very easy install with alignment tool, nice squeegee tool got all the bubbles out. Looks excellent after install was complete. Will update in a few days to see how it look after a few days of use but so far so good. Was probably the easiest Tempered glass screen saver I have ever installed, very satisfied
Bought this exact screen protector because I wanted something inexpensive and without a cam cutout (I'd rather deal with an additional layer of glass on a front camera I anyway never use than with dust piling up in a tiny cutout). Well, I don't share OP's enthusiasm. A corner started to shatter appart after only a week, and I didn't even drop it or anything. It was in the same pocket as my lighter which might be the culprit but c'mon, if it can't handle a lighter and turns into a H8 shards dispenser that soon, how is it supposed to prevent scratches on the screen ?
Another corner got damaged after a 50cm (metric FTW) drop on wooden floor and I decided to get rid of it altogether.
It's cheap, it's easy to apply, it looks good (although the black border overlaps the screen by maybe half a millimeter), and it might last a bit longer for someone less careless than I am, still not a viable long term option according to me.

Sucks you had a bad experience with it. So I ended up reaching out to them after myself finding my screen protector had cracked and they sent me another one for free.
It probably isn't the strongest screen protector but it's cheap, easy to install, and looks great! It's TRUE the protectors with the hole punch are a haven for dust and just look hideous in general.
If you stumble across a better screen protector I'd love to hear about it! Perhaps I'll try it out next if this one tanks on me again
Cheers!
