Original Droid 1 Media Dock on Droid 2! - Droid 2 Accessories

Yup, works fine, original Droid 1 Media Dock actually "matches" color with the Droid 2 with its chrome/black while the Droid 2 Media Dock doesn't.
Here's a video review of it for you:
http://droid2accessories.com/droid-2-accessories/droid-2-media-dock-review/

i have two D1 docks and i was excited to see that my D2 fit in them without incident.
if you received a D2 as a replacement like I did, and had purchased the original D1 car dock (navigation dock), call VZW and ask if they can help you out. I was told by the CSR (Freddy) that because it was VZW's fault for giving me a different phone, they rendered my dock "useless" and agreed to ship out a D2 car dock for free!

[Q] G2 car/home dock?

I was really hoping they'd come out with a car dock for the G2, similar to the N1. But they haven't. I know that the G2 doesn't have contacts along the side for this functionality, but I was thinking that the USB Micro's extra pin could be used to detect a dock. Does anyone know if there is an API call to read the pin or do an A/D on this pin or anything? I know this is how Motorola detected if their phones were connected to one of their chargers or not, so this isn't new or anything. Other manufacturers have done this also, but the hardware has to support it.
Interested in an official desktop dock and also an official car dock.
Anyone know if one is in the works for the DesireZ/G2? I have both for the NexusOne and its the only real thing that I'm missing since I got a DesireZ/G2
Motorola uses a magnet sensor in the back of the phone to tell if it is docked. Whether the dock is car or home is based on the polarity of the magnet.
Here's a post I just made in the accessories form about how I use a droid X car dock.

I agree, not nearly as elegant as the nexus one car dock, but it's a solution. Who knows if they will ever make a nice dock for the G2.

[Q] windshield car docks

all of the car docks i have seen for non idevices have very short windshield mounts. are there any windshield car docks that have extensions to get them at least 4 inches long?
and if there aren't any, what tools would i need to use to modify a car dock from griffin that was made for the idevices?
How's this? I don't see any specs but it looks maybe about 4" judging from the scale of the screen size of the phone

Has anyone gotten the audio out functionality of the Samsung car dock working? It has a sticker over it stating that audio out will be enabled when 2.2 is released, but I was hoping some of the other 2.2 releases would have support for it now.
I have the oem car dock. Running nero v3 and I can't get it to work either. I can't understand what is missing from the custom 2.2 roms that wont allow this to work. It should be similar code that the tv out uses. Because the audio comes out of the mini usb port with the tv output also right?

Audio and video work with the TV out functionality when using a micro headphone jack to RCA cable. I tried it with a headphone jack to video/audio output cable that came with a old camcorder. Are you talking about a TV out cable that plugs into the micro-USB port, if so I have never seen one like that.
I have a ~$10 Chinese ebay car dock, and it works perfectly. Ive used it in a vw jetta, toyota sequoia, and a merc e350. no problems. I have an aux in wired to the phone, and power as well via a car charger. audio comes through speakers, and nero v4 has phone calls come through speakers too, and the phone is close enough that people can hear me even if a window is down.
will psot pics later if you want them

I bought the samsung car dock, and i can say that its pretty kick ass. Although its a little frustrating that the audio does not yet work for it, it still is a nice piece to have.
Unfortunately it does'nt seem like any devs have been looking into this. Perhaps its just not very popular yet, but Im keeping my figers crossed that sooner than later it will be sorted out. either by our great developers, or just the release of official 2.2

You could look into a Bracketron custom vehicle mount. It screws into your dashboard so you can add a more permenant mout. I bought one from Quadratec for my Jeep when I bought my G1. It is awesome!

Car dock

I just ordered an oem car dock for my gf's Droid x and forgot to research if she will still be able to use the 3.5mm jack to stream Pandora to her car's stereo. I can't seem to find out on Google anyone know for sure?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Yes, it's what I do and it works fine.
You can use Bluetooth, USB (which then also streams song info), or 3.5mm.
If its the official motorola dock then yes it should be fine. Mine even came with the cable to hook out up
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
yep, includes the cable, and the dock even routes the cable back behind the phone/dock so it's not just hanging around.
I got burned... The Amazon add had a picture of a Droid X oem mount, and what I got was a droid 1 A855 oem mount. Brand new none the less, but still not for her phone. I see that there piece that the phone attaches to the mount is a plate that slides into two t channels, is there anyway to order just the Droid X piece? Or will i have to get another mount? I'm gonna go to a Corporate Store next time, Amazon has burned me for the last time. I can't seem to find my conformation email, but i went to overstock's site and it seems as though they don't really do returns anyways.
Belkin Aircast Bluetooth Kit
If you don't have a bluetooth enabled car stereo this bluetooth kit may be useful for you. The kit comes with a 3.5mm connector you plug into your car stereo's auxilliary port and then pair with your Droid X and play mp3s or Pandora on the phone and hear it through your car's speakers. It also doubles as a hands-free phone kit so you can make calls and hear the other person on the car's speakers and the kit comes with a microphone that isolates your voice pretty well.
This kit made the car dock for my Droid X WAY more useful.

Car dock with case?
I got the Platinum case from bestbuy which I like so far, but the issue is that I can't find a car dock that fits the phone without taking the cover off.
Does anyone know of a solution?
Thanks,
when/if you get the car mount be careful of phone temps. if she has gps running, music, and god knows whatever else and it's under the sun the phone will get very hot very fast... which can cause serious issues.

That is what I use mine for also, probably one of my favorite accessories.
i think it would be better you to visit amazon.com.It's a nice site and you can decide better.

[Q] Where to buy official Samsung accessories in Canada?

I'm looking to buy the car dock, MHL Adapter and USB adapter for the SGS2. I was hoping that we'd have something in Canada by now, but it doesn't look like it. Anyone have any ideas where I can get these accessories, and when they'll be available (especially at Best Buy, as I have gift cards)?
BTW, I tried to order these accessories from Bell in early August. Their website doesn't show availability and I got an email a couple of days later saying that they had none in stock and weren't expecting them until end of August. I cancelled the order (as they charged my credit card right away and I don't trust them). I followed up this week to see if they had any in stock and they told me that they can't tell me. I have to place the order to find out. Ahhh, you gotta love Bell.
There is none available in Canada, I order my accessories on eBay, a Korean seller.
For cases there is a seller in Toronto selling authentic SGP cases, love my SGP Neo Hybrid!
Thanks for the reply. I checked ebay, but the price of the car dock was too high.
I ended up ordering the car dock and MHL adapter from ExportPrive (they didn't have the USB adapter). This was still a bit expensive, but the only place that I found cheaper was expansys.ca. After the reviews I read about expansys, there's no way I was going to order from them.
I have ordered a car, desktop dock and battery pack case as well as other cases all with expansys and have never had a problem.
It's good to know that not everyone has had a bad experience with Expansys. Probably more times than not there are no problems with Expansys, as people are generally more vocal about negative experiences than positive ones. However, I've read enough bad stories (even on their own forums) to not risk it.
It figures. After ordering the MHL adapter from Export Prive, I found a similar one for less from MonoPrice. I know it's not an official Samsung adapter, but I'm sure the quality is excellent, as everything else I've purchased from them is.
Here are the details:
Product Name: Micro USB to HDMI MHL Adapter - Black
Product ID: 8675
Price: $15.92
The current list of MHL compatible devices includes:
Samsung Galaxy S II
Samsung Infuse 4G
HTC Evo 3D
HTC Flyer Tablet
HTC Sensation
Oakville place had all accessories at the bell store

No problem. I'm pretty sure the quality will be pretty good, but I'm interested in reading your review.
BTW, I've since found that the Bell store in Ajax had the MHL adapter in stock. They haven't received any stock of the car adapter or OTG USB adapter yet, though.
Anyway, $16 from MonoPrice for their brand (+ shipping) vs $50 from Bell for the Samsung one...it's an easy choice. I just wish I would have found it a day earlier!
I received my order from Export Prive today (the 14th). I ordered it the night of the 8th, so it came pretty quick. It was pretty much right on their estimate.
If anyone's interested, here's a breakdown of the costs from Export Prive compared to Bell:
Export Prive:
1 SSGMHLADGS2 Samsung MHL Adaptor to HDMI Output for Galaxy S II i9100 $33.12
1 SSGVHCLDGS2 Samsung Vehicle Dock for Galaxy S II i9100 $51.02
Sub-Total: $84.13
Shipping via Express Mail Service (EMS): $17.90 (you can save about $5 if you choose a slower shipping method)
Total: $102.03 USD (came to $103.04 on credit card bill due to currency exchange fees)
Bell:
HDTV adapter: $49.95
Samsung vehicle dock (window mount): $49.95
Sub-Total: $99.90
HST: $12.99
Total: $112.89
As you can see, ordering these two accessories from Bell would have cost me more than it did with Export Prive.
I tried out the vehicle dock kit and I like it. It's light weight, yet solid. It comes in two main pieces. There's the arm that has a suction cup for the window / dash, and there's a holder for the phone that can snap to the arm.
To insert the phone, you just pull down the lock (at the bottom), snap the phone in and push the lock back up (which connects the micro USB). This could probably be done with one hand. There's no way the phone will fall out.
To take the phone out, pull down the lock at the bottom, press on the tab at the top and pull the phone out from the top. Most likely this will require two hands, but we'll see after I get used to it. I kept pressing the power / lock button on the phone when trying to take it out, but hopefully that won't be an issue as I adjust the technique I use to take it out.
Once the phone is in the dock, it can be rotated and the angle can be changed. This means that you can have it vertical or horizontal (on on any orientation you want). The angle can be changed so that it's directed more to one side. It's on a ball joint, so it's completely up to you how you want to set it up. There's also a knob on the back that will allow you to adjust the tension.
The phone holder can be removed while the phone's still attached, so if you need to quickly detach it and put it back, it's pretty easy.
When you insert the phone, a few things happen (regardless if you have the lighter apapter plugged in or not):
Care mode is activated. A little steering wheel icon is shown in the status bar at the top to indicate this mode is active. It can be disabled from the notifications window.
The "Voice talk" application is started.
The speakerphone is activated.
Unfortunately, the speaker is on the back of the phone. There is an opening on the holder to allow the sound through, but there's nothing to redirect the sound to the front (maybe the windshield will help, we'll see). I can't see this being loud enough in my car. I'll have to try it out for a couple of days.
There are two ports on the back of the phone holder: one for the speaker line out and one for the micro USB adapter. It comes with a lighter adapter that has a micro USB connector. They've also included a little magnetic clamp that can be used to bunch up any excess cable.
Overall, I'd say it's a well built and thought out vehicle dock kit. It's solid, looks nice, holds the phone really well and automatically puts the phone in car mode. It has a couple of minor issues, such as needing to pull the phone out from where the lock / power button is, and the speaker on the back (which is more of a phone issue than dock issue). I'd say it's also overpriced, but I think it's worth it. I'm happy with it.
I haven't played with the MHL adapter yet. I can't believe Bell is charging $50 for it, though. Even worse is the standard battery from Bell...it costs $89.95!!! I know all of the other accessories are over priced, but that's ridiculous!
I ordered my Otterbox Commuter case directly from the Bell website, at which point it said "expect your shipment in 3 weeks when we're restocked". It came a few weeks ago. It's $34 CDN on the Bell website, which is cheaper than most places I think. I noticed they now have the car dock as well. The battery price seems downright ludicrous however; perhaps it's also a mini desalinization plant?
Any/all Bell stores I went to had SFA for the SGSII in stock.

Infuse car dock

Can anyone confirm whether the Samsung Infuse car dock actually world for the E4GT?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA Premium App
Yes, it works great. Even better than the official E4GT dock, from what I've read.
If you don't already know about the deal, search for the Infuse dock thread in Accessories (I think). You can buy the desk and car docks together for around $18 at the AT&T store.
Just stopped by my local ATT store to check this out for myself...
For those that are skeptical or were unaware, ATT is selling the Samsung Infuse Car dock for 50% off since they are EOLing the Infuse. Anyways, the car dock is a 98% match for the ET4G.
Why do I only give it a 98% match? Because the space for the camera on the back of it doesn't line up 100%. It doesn't affect function at all, but I guess if you were trying to take a picture through your mount while driving it might not work the greatest. Other than that, all ports and holes line up PERFECT with the phone. For $18 after tax it has got to be the best option out there right now for car mounts for our phone.
Anyways, hope this helps someone. I can post pics if needed...
