HTC Peep Update - Desire General

Anyone any ideas on how to fix the HTC Peep or when HTC will release an update out for the twitter app to support the new Auth so it will work again?

According to Twitter the HTC Peep issues were their fault and they've now fixed them.
Strangely I still can't login with Peep. HTC have now followed up with this Tweet which states..
“Twitter is on the case! They are working on a fix for multiple mobile apps. Peep/Friend Stream should be back soon!”

I'm still waiting too...
I either get 'unable to sign in' - 'You entered an incorrect username or password'
or
'service is not available'
As a workaround i've been using the twitter client - but it doesn't sync up with the contacts

I can login fine but i dont get any updates

I much prefer the official Twitter app to be honest.
Until HTC do get around to fixing Peep (if thats what you want to use) I'd just install the official app.

I really miss friendstream. Having everything there in one timeline. Is there anything else to fill in for this? I had a quick search, but nothing seemed to emulate friendstream.

do a search for "tweetdeck for android"
can have twitter, facebook, foursquare all on one screen.....

Facebook for HTC sense not updating

Im having an issue with Facebook sense. I noticed after restarting my phone for the first time that the Facebook friend stream was no longer updating even though it was set to update every hour and it was enabled, Looking in the setting menu confirmed this as the last updated time was not changing unless i forced a resync. Removing and re-adding the account worked for a while until I restarted the phone but as soon as I did the same issue manifested, it just wont automatically update. All other automatic updates seem to work.
Has anyone else encountered this issue and if so have you managed to find a resolution?
Cheers!
if you have the little power bar widget, with Bluetooth WiFi etc on, have you turned on the reloading sign?

Already checked that, every other app updates correctly just not facebook
log out then back in...it fixed my friends list not updating with new friends, probably will sort out th e friendstream (providing you've not already fixed it)
make sure its the facebook for htc rather than facebook for android tho !
How are you logging out of it?

I don't have my phone with me at the moment, but while logged into Facebook, is there no option to log out via the browser or when you press the Menu button?
I had that problem, fixed by going into settings and re-selecting the update frequency, seems to need repeating at each boot.
Does anyone know how to update contact pictures? My friends have updated their facebook prof pics but it isnt getting update to my phone.
i had to delete my facebook account then re-add it
Facebook integration seems a bit iffy on mine too. New friend facebook contacts do not show up on Contacts tab (to be linked). It seems the thing does not update without remove-re add.

Yeah I had to remove the account and re-add but then it only synced 30 contacts at first and then I had to keep resyncing 3 times to get all contacts synced.
Same here.....had to re-add my account
The first time it cut off at around 40. I rebooted the Desire, now I have the first 40 twice.

Solution
Had the same issue, just updated facebook and all better now...
not to beat a dead horse on this one, but I am having something along these issues with my FriendStream widget. The Facbook isn't updateing hourly like it should, I have tried the following to correct the problem:
Removed/Re-Added my account
Cleared all Cache Data
Cleared all Data
Reset the phone (factory Reset)
Updated Facebook
Really ata loss for what I should do from here, any ideas or suggestions would be awesome.

Facebook Sync Missing!

I upgraded my Desire by installing the LeeDroid ROM to get FroYo. Now however, facebook Sync does not show up on my People. When I try to enable Facebook as a sync account, "Facebook" does not get selected, and "Facebook for HTC Sync" gives me a connection error. Is there a way to fix this?
IF I want to go back to my original state, how do I go about doing that?
Try to uninstall and then reinstall Facebook app for Android on market, it may help you.

Same thing happens to me, I think it is a fault with the Stock ROM.
I think its HTC sense not playing nice with Facebook. Had the same problem with another rom and reflashed a couple others. HTC has confirmed it I think.

I tried the uninstall/reinstall avenue, but no luck. Is there any way that I can revert to the stock ROM that my phone came with? I'm missing out on a LOT of contact details without facebook. Plus contact images
Weird Facebook HTC sync works fine for me, using 1.4c
Reverted back to the nandroid backup. Some posts point to a Facebook issue. Will try out in a few days. I has the sad.

It's Facebook problem. I have same issue can't login my account with "Facebook for sense",but can login with "Facebook for android", sense said service unavailable , but I can login with other account, so its not "service unavailable", its "my account unavailable".. still can't fix yet

I have the same problem as well, friendstream stopped working so i logged out and cleared data, after that whenever i try to link contacts it says no match found, its a FB error, you can check FB page for htc sense and a lot have the problem, not just people with the Desire

It's HTC <-> Facebook related problem, not only on Desire but on all HTC Sense phones.
HTC confirm about the problem and said it will be fixed until the end of tihs weekend - they hope .

Try this, it might help:
"Settings" > "Programs" > "Manage applications" > "Facebook for HTC Sense"
1) Click on "Clear data" + "Clear cashememory"
It shall work by now. However, u have a weird ROM so try this if it still doesn't work:
2) "Settings" > "Accounts and synchronization" > "Facebook for HTC Sense" > "Remove the account"
This fixed my FB sync problem for good

Tried the above method and although it has started sync'ing, it is not getting my entire list of friends. I dont have that many on Facebook (about 30) but I spotted at least two missing from the list!
Working for friend stream. Still cant see all contact's

HTC News not working anymore

Hi guys, I'm having DHD for some weeks now, and so far everything is good (except the battery, but with this display it's understandable).
Two days ago the News app stopped syncing. When I click on sync, the icon flashes but no actual sync is made (I can see from the desktop google reader feeds). So I removed app data (from settings -> applications -> manage applications -> running).
Now the News app does not want to start at all. It flashes the screen and then it closes by itself. What can I do to restore the app and make it working again? (I mean without hard reset). I is not in the list of installed apps, can I find it from somewhere and reinstall it?

Had exactly the same problem. I gave up on it and switched to RSSDemon - very good app....
See here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834323 fixed by doing factory reset.
I had the same problem...did a hrad re-set last week...getting the same problem this week again! it says updating but doesn't update..I don't want to do a hard reset again..I think HTC should do something about this...i thought moving from a Nokia to HTC I would forget about hard reset...but not so!
So it turns out that this News app is quite buggy It's good that there are some nice alternatives in the Market.

Yeah -- the HTC news app and widget is horribly broken even with the Desire Z -- I tried clearing the user data and now it won't even prompt to add new feeds -- it just sits there with a blank window.
I disabled the sync for it, and now I'm using another news reader.
I also got this today.
Bahh, I'm not going to hard-reset....
Hmm, I now remeber, I downloaded, I think from xda, a zip with all the apk apps from the original rom... going to see if I can find it and install it...
Let us know if the news app is there.

You know what? I don't know how, but I can get again enter on the News app
I've search the news apk from the zip that I have, but I can't find it. At least there's no apk with the name "news" on it.
Could it be "EReader" ??
No idea what happened but mine started working as well…

I wasn't able to get my feeds updated, and I couldn't even manage the feeds in the app, getting messages as "unable to unsubscribe" and "unable to change folder". Clearing the cache didn't work, so I cleared the data and ended up with exactly the same issue on my Desire Z as you describe.
I used OSMonitor to check the logs for the app and only then did it dawn on me that it syncs with Google Reader. Apparently, the current blank screen issue is caused by incorrect communication between Google Reader and the HTC News app:

Interestingly, disabling sync for News didn't help the situation and I'm wondering whether and how the HTC News app works without using a Google account.
Anyway, I logged into Google reader on my PC, marked everything up to a day ago as read. This again, did not change anything.
Just for the heck of it, I installed the Google Reader app (News sync still disabled), and gave it access to my account. Lo and behold, when I added the HTC News widget to my home screen, it showed me the proper list of subscriptions (from Google Reader) and it works as it should. Moreover, the HTC News app works again and shows me the right content!
In addition to the above, the widget indeed shows new items as the Google Reader sync is done (HTC News sync is still _disabled_). Now it's just a matter of waiting to see whether the widget not updating issues reoccur, but I'm guessing no
I really love htc news ,I think its got the best eye candy and function compared to all the market alternatives. But it has crashed twice and has fixed with 2nd hard reset. Does anyone know any way htc news can be reinstalled without having to hard reset!

Great discovery. Good thinking. Solved my problem. Do you know which one I sync, Google Reader or sync HTC News, to get the widget to refresh itself?
As an FYI this was fixed with the recent OTA update, or at least it was for me after the update.
I have also had this problem for a while now. Just oday I figured that HTC News wasnt conecting to Google Reader acount so I instaled NewsRob and linked it to my Google Reader account. Now HTC News seems to have reconnected to my Google Reader acount and is successfully updating. Gonna uninstall NewsRob as I like te HTC News app.
Alsp havent bothered updating to the latest OTA as I wanna keep my Eng Boot and full Root.

When reader and news are enabled at the same time, reader will overwrite modifications from news next time it syncs. At least I get a message notification about this when starting news app.
For me I disabled reader sync and just use the news widget & app.

Facebook doesnt stay logged in?

Forgive me in advance, I am asking this question on behalf of my gf that has an Epic.
Every couple hours she gets a prompt to login to facebook which is becomming very annoying. I have an Evo and have never had this issue but I also use the official facebook app, it appears that the epic has its own facebook app which appears to be the one causing us troubles. Does anyone else have this issue with facebook or am I doing something wrong? It would seem there is a way to stay logged in because if you are constantly signing in it kinda defeats the purpose of widgets.

This isn't going to answer your question but I'm just letting you know I get the same issue. I just either leave it or clear the notification up. Wouldn't mind finding a solution to this as well. Good luck!
I was afraid of that, so its either deal with the constant logins to get everything synced properly in your contacts, messages, etc., or go with something like Pure Messanger Widget and stock facebook app?
yep same issue here, ive learned though it does it only when i check my facebook on the epic
if I leave it alone it doesnt log out
There is a similar post in the General forum, but I had the same issues.
When I experienced the same issues, I was still on the stock version of Facebook.apk. The SNS account kept prompting for me to log in again, with each sync interval.
I tried removing and adding the account again and rebooting in between, yet still the same problem. I finally had upgrade Facebook to the latest update that was the cause of all these login issues for older versions.
The upgrade fixed the problem, but I did find an issue when you use the built-in Facebook contact sync alone it may not carry profile pictures over to SMS. I had to manually add the account, this ended up putting two Facebook sync processes on my phone. The first is for Facebook to actually let you login to the app (just has sync contacts), and the second is the process that will sync both contacts and calendar events again. (the original sync we're used to)
Reference thread
EDIT: I just got the same SNS login prompt again.
I've never had any login problems on the facebook app, but I also don't use the feeds and updates widget.

This only seems to be happening to me more often recently. I swear it's asking me to log in to Facebook & Twitter every hour or so now. When I go to Accounts & Sync I see that there are two accounts (even though I only have one account for each). One Twitter & one Facebook account say there was an error with the syncing process.
I unchecked the sync processes that were having errors. I'll let you know if I keep being asked to log in.
I have this problem too. It says my sync is experiencing errors and its cause it logged me out of Facebook. Once I log back in its fine.

I used to have this issue, but I figured out a simple workaround.
I use the FACEBOOK APP to sync and not the adding a Facebook account under the account section in settings. After I deleted the Facebook account there and made a sync with the Facebook App, the annoying prompt went away and hasn't come back since.

After doing this, I bet you don't have your friends profile pictures in the stock SMS application anymore. You also wouldn't have Facebook events in your stock Calendar application.
I have the same problem. Funny thing is my widget works fine gets updates and I can upload a picture from within the widget. If I take a picture, or select one from the gallery, then click Share facebook, it will not upload. started one day last week.
On stock rooted and don't get it hourly or even 2x/day that I can remember, just every morning...sometimes it doesn't make it the first time, usually it re-connects, good til the next morning....
I had the same problem. I had to delete the stock sync and use the FB app's sync option but like mentioned above you lose the profile pics on the stock sms so I downloaded "go sms" and the pictures are back...it beats having to log in every hour for sure.

I would say it's a Facebook issue. It stopped working properly after the recent Facebook update. It affected all versions of the application, including the Epic's stock version of Facebook.
I do actually. But, no calendar sync.
Sent from the Epic that bites.
I can say that my gf and my brother both have the same issue, only reason i can think Samsung isn't attempting a quick fix is the rumored 2.2 update for the 21st of this month, which will probably have an updated app that fixes the problem. Although as important as facebook is to people I am surprised there is no maintenance release that fixes this,
Same issues here. I was thinking it might have had something to do with networking issues - I usually leave wifi and 4g on all the time. I noticed that I usually get the prompts when I leave home in the morning (go out of range of my house's wifi) and when 4g disconnects and reconnects in spotty 4g areas. I was wondering if maybe the session expires when you switch networks. Same thing would happen on my laptop when I would bring it from home to work or a coffee shop. FB might recognize that the connection is different. Meh, just a theory I thought I'd throw out there.

[Q] Facebook profile pictures not updating

Desire HD after the official 2.3.3 update.
official stock rom, no root. auto sync is on. facebook is sync once a day.
I am using Facebook for HTC sense and it worked fine until the update.
now when my friends change their profile picture it willl not update my people app, not even after manual sync.
when i look at the facebook profile of a contact (from people app, select one contact and then press on "facebook profile") it shows my the updated profile picture,
but when i go back to the people app it is still showing the old profile picture.
1. i tried to unlink contact, sync and then link them again. no change.
2. i tried to remove facebook for HTC sense and then add it again, the profile pictures were updated but only once. (any change since then is not updated).
3. i did factory reset then put everything back. the profile pictures were updated but since then any change to profile picture is not updated again.
please help.
no one knows??

Maybe,... maybe not..
This is not the same issue because the article is about Facebook app from the market and not about Facebook for HTC sense.
The people app still use contact information from Facebook for HTC sense (like birthdays, phone number...) and only the profile picture is not updating.
If it was the same issue then the profile picture and all the contact information would not appear in people app when the account was added.
I had exactly the same issue when I got the OTA update for my old HTC Hero from (if I remember correctly) 1.5 to 1.6. I found that issue EXTREMELY annoying.
I contacted HTC many times on that, they never solved the issue. (I then lost my Hero and got an HTC DESIRE HD. I haven't upgraded to 2.3 yet, and if that issue is confirmed I'd rather not do it!).
PS: something I tried - but didnt work for me: go to your facebook profile (**from a PC**) and remove the HTC sense app, and then let the phone re-request/install that
The problem is the account of facebook htc sense, becuase if i syncronize the account of classic facebook that create the app, the pics are updatated.
If you use , both the accounts, facebook htc sense syancronized every day for example and facebook classic disabled, the contacts have 2 facebook profiles in details, but the main pic will be from facebook htc sense (not upgrated).
So, sense 2.1 bug?
sir, have you tried using the app called "syncmypix"? its in the market =)
I too have this problem. I'm not using the stock rom but I have tried Android Revolution HD and LeeDroid and the problem exists for me on both.
facebook classic app update the photos, but quality is very bad
facebook for htc sense, not working.
I think that it's a bug.

It's a common issue with HTC Sense to suddenly stop updating things, then just as suddenly start updating things again. Contacting HTC is no good, because they are not prepared to admit that the Desire HD's software has he occasional glitch.
htc suggested to boot up in safe mode (that disable all 3rd party applications) and then check if problem still exists.
sync facebook for htc sense and check if pictures updated.
(safe mode: restart the device -> press vol. down when htc logo appears utill phone boot up)
it did not helped me but might help you.
