[q] froyo bugs?? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys!
I have the australian Desire because of the 850MHz 3G frequency needed in my country. I upgraded to froyo (not rooted device) "in the air" and got this:
- Android 2.2 version;
- 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20 baseband version;
- 2.6.32.14-gf9c0527 kernel version;
- 2.09.405.8 CL218634 release-keys;
- 2.09.405.8 software version;
- wbekit 3.1 browser version.
Besides the sometimes poor reception of the radio I´m also having notifications problems:
1- The phone, when in vibrate mode, doesn´t receive calls, the phone do not vibrate at all going to "not available" for the person who calls me and a missed call symbol appears on the notification area.
2- The phone do not ring at all in normal mode and a missed call symbol appears on the notification area.
3- SMS messages do not ring and/or vibrate when in normal/vibrate modes, specially when the threaded messages are opened.
This problems occours randomly, sometimes occours and sometimes not.
Is there anyone also having this?
Thank you all!

Are you locked to Telstra? I didn't think they had upgraded to Froyo yet, because I've got one, and just checked.
Anyway, I've rooted the device (using Unrevoked) and installed OpenDesire on it, and don't have any of the problems you're having. However, if you don't want to void your warranty, I can see the reasons for not wanting to root/flash your phone.

No, I´m not locked to Telstra. When I bought it on eBay I did simply put my chip from Vivo on it and started talking. I do not care about warantie, I just like the HTC widgets and messages, email, dialer and other stuffs and don´t want to have an instable OS, or a modifyed one with icons and stuffs that don´t have the "factory default appearance", got it?
But I have not discarted rooting my device...
Is your from Telstra too? Was it locked?
Thanks!

Australian Desire in Brazil
cristianomc,
I'm no expert, but since you updated your desire 'over the air' I wonder if you have firmware from your mobile carrier that is incompatible with the telstra firmware that was on the telstra branded desire?
Telstra Froyo updates are not out yet, but should be in a week or two.
These would be available 'over the air' in Australia, but perhaps they would also be available online from HTC or telstra.
HTC had a telstra update some months ago for the desire and posted it here : www*htc*com/au/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=941&news_id=640
Perhaps you should check this page in a week or so and see if the Telstra 2.2 update is there for download and try insalling that over the top?
Alternatively, since you haven't "rooted" your phone, but just used an incompatible 'over the air' updtate in Brazil, e-mail htc support, and they may be able to help?
Good luck,
Richard

HTC Desire Firmware update

Has anybody recieved the Firmware over the air update? Curious as to what it updates as it doesnt mention it on the HTC site.
http://www.htc.com/europe/support.aspx
Update – HTC Desire Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update
In our commitment to providing you with the best user experience, we are pushing out a new firmware update to your phone. Your phone will receive a notification of this update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Software Number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software information> Software number). The new software number after the update will be 1.15.405.4 for an HTC phone.
1.15.110.11 on T-Mobile
Note: We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply. For any questions, please contact us at http://www.htc.com/www/CA_Hotline.aspx
well just checked my device and its already installed. 2 options or it was pre-installed on my device or auto installed.
quite old I suppose, since I bought it here in Italy the past week and it came with such firmware.
Oh, should you guess if it enables 720p video, no, it doesn't.
I checked my software number 1.15.61.10, i ran the sytem software update and it told me there are no updates...
More in this older thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=660642
has anyone else other than T Mobile users recieved the update?
Generic devices got it last week.
T-Mobile got it this week.
Orange phones will get it in the next few days..
Just be patient.....FOTA updates do not all come at once.
Really? I thought everybody would get it at the same time... crashing all the networks.
I was hoping this update is for the DIVX support.. link to the article:
http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2010...ceive-divx-playback-support-in-future-update/
Copied from mobiletechworld:
I had the chance to talk to HTC a couple of hours ago during their local HTC Legend/Desire/HD Mini presentation. There was obviously nothing new to learn (especially since I already got some hands-on action last week at the MWC). The only new piece of info I got was about the rumored DivX playback and 720P encoding capabilities of the HTC Desire (aka HTC Bravo). The answer I got was that DivX support will be added in a future update (they didn’t say much about 720P support but from the way it sounded it should be coming in the same update) because they didn’t have time to finalise the feature before launching the handset.
Im dubious if orange are going to release this update and add there rubbish to it.
I upgraded my ROM on my HTC Touch HD from the HTC website, the ROM was a orange only ROM..
Lets just say it was more of a downgrade than upgrade...my original ROM had no orange branding or software, i believe that the new ROM sim locked my phone...
old, t-mobile ships their devices already with the .11 software

Newbie (but teachable) question about HTC Desire (Telstra Branded)

Hello all. I am new to Android – but have done a little research and I am excited about the possibilities of my new phone. Which is…the HTC Desire A8183 with Telstra Branding and the new ROM that fixed the GPS issue and added voice search.
I imported the phone into the US to use on AT&T’s network. I love the OS, the features, etc. The speed on AT&T’s 3G network is incredible – averaging about 200 kB/s.
My Goal: I want to Root the device and probably apply a stock HTC Rom. The reasons: I want to 1. Remove the Telstra crap; 2. Use it for Wi-Fi tethering; and 3. Install apps to the SD Card.
My issues: When I purchased the phone, it came with what I believe was a stock HTC Desire ROM from Europe. However, the GPS DID NOT WORK. I tried every program I could get my hands on. Does anyone know if the A8183 has a different hardware configuration (other than frequencies) and that is why the GPS did not work on the original Telstra ROM? Of course, the only way I could get the GPS to work was to flash the phone with the Updated Telstra ROM from HTC’s website. Piece of cake. However, now I have this crap from Telstra on my phone.
My predicament regarding rooting and flashing another ROM on to this particular HTC Desire model: It looks like all the guides I have found require you to install a new ROM on to the phone. Will I still have the same GPS issues? Have we found out why the GPS did not work on the original ROM and how they fixed it? If so, has anyone ported that solution into a stock HTC ROM?
To be perfectly honest – I just want this Telstra bloatware gone, wifi tethering, and apps on my SDcard. (Obviously, I want all other functions to work as they should…including GPS) If anyone has possible solutions, my mind is open and I can pretty much respond immediately.
Sorry if I used incorrect terms – I’m new.
In advance – Thanks,
Eric
Have a look at this thread over on MoDaCo android forum, it has the solution to your problem.
BTW, where did you buy your phone from?

update available 1.21.405.2

I just tried to check for updates for my desire (unrooted) and I saw that I can update to 1.21.405.2.
UPDATE:
It seems that the update is only available for the EU unbranded roms.
Changes reported:
- Updates bootloader to 0.80
- New radio image
- New youtube app with HQ option (1.6.20E).
- Fixed htc's weather widget (integrated into clock&weather widget) not knowing where you are (1.15.xxx just said the name of the country in some countries).
- SMS issue (from non-numerical senders) is resolved.
- fixed random contact showing when receiving operator SMS.
- fixes the voicemail bug for the French carrier SFR (short voicemail number used to call 911/emergency).
- Messages app now shows a count on the number of messages in the SMS inbox.
- calendar/contacts bug - unable to store contact's birthday - has been fixed.
- Long click on the menu button when in home screen now doesnt pop up the keyboard, like it uselessly did before.
- SMS reader does not show the little smiley androids any more - just the mere types.
- Exchange Company Address Book is now properly working. Was unable to use before the update.
- They have disabled the snooze function on the Optical trackpad for calendar events. This means that it is now possible to have the phone in your pocket without accidentally snoozing the alarms.
Known issues:
- OTA update on debranded/rooted roms resolves in wifi not working - debranded may be specific for orange.
- Doesnt fully charge for the first couple of times, probably a calibiration thing, it's ok after 3-5 charges.
OOO thats new I checked this morning and it wasn't there.
this is an up date for HTC Applications, well thats what it says.
27.2 mb can't be a big deal.
I'm on it now, seems fine...the MCR custom ROMs are based on it but I got bored of them so went stock
Updating to 1.21.405.2 changes your bootloader to 0.80 and currently it is unavailable to downgrade back to 0.75.
This means that if you ever want to run an RUU to revert back to stock you won't be able to since that requires a 0.75 bootloader.
You can get the stock 1.21.405.2 ROM from my sig so you can go back whenever needed...you just cant go back to 1.15.405.4
well atleast this shows progress at the HTC camp. Real question is whether this is it, or is it work around the 2.2 update?
Where can i find what differneces are on this update.
Can i still root my desire if i want to after this update?

This rom has been out for quite some time now. Small little patches are hardly anything compared to moving up an entire OS revision.

Yes but you'll need to use the 0.80 method.

How long is that? If this is how long it takes HTC to port their UI onto a new build of the SAME OS it's not looking good.
It was posted in ROM Dev about 3 weeks ago now, maybe longer...
EDIT: 19th May
Wonder if O2 users will get an update.. I'm feeling left out
Im on o2, too. Hope they will get this update soon.
Not that its a big thing... but it would make me feel optimistic for future updates (2.2?) if theyd get this done quickly...
the O2 Desire is pretty much brand new so won't have an update yet - it's going to be HTC bringing the other units up to speed...
so what is this update???? Anyone

Minor fixes. New radio image. New youtube app with HQ option (with a widget that doesn't work if you're logged in to your account). New bootloader. Fixed Facebook/unknown contact issue (haven't verified this personally).
I flashed the rom from the dev forum a couple of days ago, but haven't noticed any other changes yet.
The news widget still doesn't update automatically.

thanks hope froyo's next..
edit: i think speaker is also louder ... though it may just be me
I get the HQ option in the Youtube app when logged in to my account
Ah well...that will teach me to be fast.
Updated via 3G at work. Got home and just realised my Wifi no longer works. Refuses to start after the update. Tried several reboots...nothing.
It doesn't even TRY to start, as soon as you select the check box to enable Wifi it instantly says "Unable to start Wi-Fi"
This sucks.
Re: updating to 1.21.405.2, should I?
Just updated, and I can now see Google earth in the market place, perhaps just simple coincidence

*#*#2432546#*#* not working on Orange?

Hi there
I'm trying the
*#*#2432546#*#*
*#*#checkin#*#*
code on the phone dialer, on my htc desire stock rom on Orange, people are reporting that it created a notification saying 'Checkin successful' and a triangle icon in the top bar. But Im not getting anything at all. I type the code in and after entering the last * the code dissapears and I get no notification or message.
Can anyone confirm that on Orange this code does not work?
I've just tried it on my Orange de-branded with stock ROM and I get nothing either. What is the 'Checkin' anyway?
I thought it was INFO
*#*#4636#*#*
Its one of the method people are using to check for OTA updates, the other method being settings>About Phone>Check for updates
the code I believe is a 'checking in' service that looks for updates from google rather than htc or the carrier. Although I might be wrong on that aspect.
I've read a few people using the code and recieveing key updates (such as the update to 1.21 (im on 1.15)
its a bit of a mystery at the moment, still learning my way around the android OS, and tinkering as much as possible.

Not working on my Asia 1.19 Desire...
tried it on my desire (orange stock rom). nothing happens.
sounds like a bummer, looks like we'll play the waiting game with htc and orange as to when the OTA update gets pushed out. Either that or switch ROMS which IM not that keen on doing, other than stripping out all the crud that Orange put on the build, I mean come on Orange if I don't want your game demo's I should be able to remove them.
Orange have said that the update may not even come if they can't get the branding to work alongside it. I ended up de-branding too, and I guess it's not working because there isn't an update?

Orange said that?, what an incredible stance to take, cripple the whole android OTA experience simple so they can slip in some bloatware and subsidised demos that no-one ever uses anyway. the two most useful apps for Orange 'Orange Wednesdays and Your Orange' arn't even part of the initial orange software they're both found on the marketplace.
Looks like I'll be debranding soon then, im more than a little annoyed at Orange.
Im not fully surprised that the Froyo OTA update isn't available via Orange yet, however on T-Mobile, my girlfriend has no update pushed out to her Desire , whereas my buddy also on T-Mobile got the OTA update 2 days ago, both on stock roms, so the OTA isn't necessarily limited by carrier. I expect this has been talked to death in other threads mind you.
Working for me
Orange uk
2.2 defrost 1.5f
This also aint working on my desire from vodafone (1.19.161.5)
does nothing at all, not even a red triangle or owt on mine
See image.

[Q] Newly Debranded and Froyo'd Desire - Changed Sim Msgs??

I recently debranded my Desire and updated to Froyo using the rather helpful guide below.
http://www.broadbandgenie.co.uk/blog/20100822-how-debrand-htc-desire-update-froyo
All has worked rather well, (better than I expected), and I no longer have any Orange rubbish on my handset. However when my phone has been switched off for a while, when powering up I get a msg saying "your sim has changed", and asks if I want to update details etc. This seems to happen each time.
Nothing bad happens if I cancel and ignore the msg, but I wondered if there was something I could do to stop it from appearing again?
This is a common problem on certain custom roms. I'd take a look in the thread of the rom you are using and see if they have released the fix yet.
