Seems off topic for this forum...but, yes.
So far I haven't heard anything about WP7 that makes it sound like something I'd want to wait for... And I'm tired of missing the apps/features that have come to Android and other OS, and not WM.

G2 this weekend?? I don't think so...pre-order, maybe, but the latest rumors call for an Oct 16 launch.

Mine was pre-ordered. I got a text from T-Mobile 2 days ago letting me know to expect my G2 to arrive within 7 days.

After actually reading that Oct 16 launch article in the link above, the only thing I can figure is that the G2 will be officially released to all customers. New or existing customers. The T-Mobile guy told me on the phone that it would be arriving at my house around the 6th. So, I dunno.. It would not surprise me any if it didn't come out till November 16th. Nothing about the phone companies ever comes as a surprise. But, I am still having fun customizing my TP2 and messing around with the xandroid on the sd card.

wow so there's people on here making off topic posts about the fisher price lookin OS too.

Following articles say G2 may be on sale any day now, or may already be available:
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/10/t-mobile-gives-stores-permission-to-sell-the-g2-ahead-of-schedule/

Not sure about the comment about not wanting to give up the ability to customize (like you can on the TP2). There is lots of customization available on Android, on an OS that is vastly smoother, more stable, and has tons of support from app developers.
One of the few things stopping me from going to Android, is the lack of a ATT-compatible handset with a hardware keyboard. And I might be willing to overlook the keyboard requirement.

Typing on a phone with a big screen like the HD2 is not that bad.

I'm thinking of going with the Desire Z (virtually identical to the G2).

People with iPhones have the same description of the screen keyboard: "not that bad". The screen keyboard is never described as "good". "Not that bad" isn't good enough for me. A hardware keyboard is simply faster, more accurate, and therefore a superior input method. It does result in a slightly thicker form factor, but that's a trade-off that is more than worthwhile, IMO. Especially coming from the best hardware keyboard on a phone (the TP2), its pretty tough for me to make a switch to a screen keyboard.

The ATT version was rumored to have launched a couple of weeks ago (as per the ancient-looking leaked ATT docs)
Hopefully they'll all be out soon.
I don't understand why the companies can't tell us what phones and when they are going to come out.
I actually need this device for my work. I know I could get a touch 1, but with the 2 "rumored" to be out really soon, I figure I should wait. I don't have a problem waiting, but I would like some hard dates from these companies so I can actually plan and know.
Funny thing is, I'm with Tmobile right now, but their 3G is way too limited where I live now. Sprint, Verizon, and ATT are much better with their advertised 3G in my area. I have no probs switching, but who is gonna get it?
If this was just waiting for a toy, I could care less. But it will make my work at least 10 times more efficient with the use of all the features of this device.
Does anyone know a way to get a rock solid answer from these companies?

They get around to it when they get around to it, but there is an actual reason why it seems to take so long.
Although people like us knew about the Touch Pro2 and its design and specs very early on, and even though some Europeans are already using it, the truth is it still flies under the radar for the average consumer. The carriers and manufacturers like this, because they still have stock of the original Touch Pro, and if everyone knew the Touch Pro2's release was imminent, no one would finish buying up the Touch Pro 1s (IMO, there's still a segment that would want the TP1 over the TP2, but I think most carriers disagree with me and that's what really matters on a decision to announce and give solid dates) because they, like you, would wait for the TP2.
This isn't idle speculation on my part, the impulse to conceal the next model is a well-established business practice based on knowledge of the Osborne effect (although the origins may be semi-mythical, the effect does happen under the right circumstances).
Besides this, launching a device successfully is complicated. Announce a date and then have to delay it, then everyone gets pissed and the device/carrier gets a worse rep than if they don't announce but still end up with the same launch date. There's really very little upside to getting precise information out there as early as possible.

Its true that these service providers hide the arrival details of new models. But the fact that frustrates me more is these buggers change names of models - like Rhodium is called by at least 4 other names including Rhodium, MDA Vario V etc. Is it must to create confusion among consumers?
Why can't there be a single name for a product (or 2 names at the most - one Project name - like Rhodium and other Trade Name - like Touch Pro 2)??

I really think some people need to step away from the internet and go out and have some fun. If it's here when you get back then you can install; if it's not then not.
Surely an update to your mobile phone can not be the most important thing in your lives...
Not in the least bothered really when it comes, today, tomorrow, next week.
I already have Froyo and its running sweet.
How many stupid Desire users does it take to screw in a lightbulb ?
The be honest I am more irritated by dumb-fu-ks who have more time than brain cells and have to whinge about everything including the firmware release of a completely functional mobile phone. Even worse is the fact that two mouse clicks away is another section of the forum where they could easily download and run about a dozen versions of Android 2.2 hacked/packed/delivered with all the bells and whistles.
So people put the fu-king phone down, chill out, go outside and take a breath of fresh air. You will live longer ....
THE UPDATE WILL COME WHEN IT COMES..... Jumping up and down about it, checking the OTA update on the phone every 2 microseconds and making another 1.4 billion new threads won't make it appear any faster...
Next instalment in the new pointless thread forum - "I fu-ked up my phone when updating the OTA ! Help !!!", "Why won't the HTC OTA work on my Orange/Virgin/crap branded Desire" and my favourite "What's an OTA", oh and another "Anyone got Froyo Update?" you do have a point here. but: why do you get so angry?
you accuse them of having nothing else to do than wait for the froyo release. yet, you fail to convey this in an appropriate manner: In order to make them realize that they are poor souls (whose sole purpose in life is a phone software update), you better tell them in a way they don't perceive as *****ing and hating.
however, the way you get all angry about them raises the suspicion that you yourself have little else to do in your free time. complaining about them doesn't help anyone!

Nodo - due out today or not?

Plenty of people had been postulating that Nodo would be released today, but I do vaguely recall seeing an article on Monday saying it would be out "next week".
Anyone got any ideas?
I'm still waiting/looking for my first update. I guess I don't need it if the new one comes out considering all previous patches are supposed to be rolled into it.
The rumors have all been for today, with the exception of one that said yesterday was the day. The only official word from MS has been "first two weeks of March," which means we still have 6 more days to wait until they end up being made into liars.
No specific date set yet officially. My advice is don't get excited until Microsoft officially announces it or people start getting it. Whichever comes first. I just can't see it coming out without an officially announcement first.
Let us hope for the sanity of some that it comes out today. What ever happened to patience is a virtue?
The official word was "early March" so it could be anytime between today and next week. No one really knows, the March 8th date was a rumour.
Given that device-specific 7389 ROMs have started to appear (HTC Mozart and Trophy at least) I get the feeling that something is imminent. Just how imminent is, of course, another matter....
I got the update thing today, dunno if it pre NoDo or NoDo, don't have any data cables at school :/

You will come over and bomb aour country?
Still nothing here with Focus on At&t as of 10:17am EST
Using the HTC Euro update in the dev forum, gold card installed to O2 HD7 in UK, and first impressions are there are slight improvements overall, few extra animations and email flagging (unless i messed that before), copy & paste works well, haven't noticed that apps load any quicker.
More an overall polish than anything revolutionary - that'll come october!
Microsoft, if they're smart, should be aware of the March 8 rumour, and should publicly address it. "not true", "sort of true", "we're not sure". Even a "we're not sure when" would satisfy people, like myself. It at least would show they've got their finger on the pulse and have half a clue of what's going on.
And just like above, I want it for performance upgrades, I couldn't care less about copy/paste.

Let us not get on Holy. A big problem I have with humanity on the net is we are all overly critical towards others because we are just a screen name.
Apple claimed there was no Death Grip and in order to throw smoke and mirrors at the loyal customers they announced at the beginning of July 2010 that they would be shipping white iPhone 4s at the end of July. Now that is a bold-faced lie. And even bolder since it happened during a damage-control P.R. spectacle.
So they said they would have an update in February and it is March. Your phone is not unuseable no matter what picture you try to paint. We sometimes get places late. We sometimes finish our work late.

Oh never HTC? Are you out of your mind?... Just because HTC got a day or 2 late makes u feel uncomfortable enough that.u won't buy most reliable brand?...
Talk of Sony.. I bought X10 mini launched in 2 010, they didn't even update that to Froyo...
Yeah.. The wait was excitement for a better software... I kept my phone running one Rom for 2 months... I don't waiting a day or 2 more...
There must be solid reason they got a bit late... I can imagine what could be going through their developers...
Just relax.. Chill out... Wait another day or 2...
at least they announced that u will get update...unlike sony who strictly said..No Updates...
Talk about Apple...I had the Iphone for more than 2 years. The updates to the OS never bring something really new, the main reason I figured Apple does then is to keep the phones locked. At least Android is much more flexible. You cannot compare a huge company like Apple that has to develop an update for just one product to an update for Android that has to be adapted for hundreds of different devices.
Actually this whole gingerbread fuss is becoming funny after a while...The only reason I want to have the official update is to see if it will be more battery efficient. I am runnning different Gingerbread Roms ( with Sense because I really like the integration) for a few months now and none of them really brought more battery life to my phone...

Good riddance. Both of you.
I have seen the amount of highlanders HTC support has to deal with daily in the past few days and I genuinely feel sorry for them.
Well at least you can root the phone and use a custom rom to get gingerbread now. Wait, you are using a custom rom - why are you complaining?

How a Sprint Phone is born

I read this article from Phone Scoop and all I can think is... Note 2- nah. Fu-q I-Phone5- and maybe no to even the S4.
I will hold out till mid 2013 when things get really interesting. I really enjoyed this article and thought I would share. I love the timeline pic- BTW

Very informative. Kudos for posting it here. Ty
One thing for sure.. Jelly bean OTA is atleast 3-5 months away
Thank you for the Kudo's!
What I noticed was the Key Lime Pie on that timeline. If Sprint has that on there official timeline- does that mean that may be the official name? I was hoping for "King Cake" as I don't really like Key Lime Pie -LOL. Just would have gone with Ice Cream Sandwich much much better.
Also what I noticed was the availability of 800 MHz LTE around mid 2013 (What is 2500 MHz LTE? It will also be available). Also the flexible OLED screen means what exactly. Maybe we will have flexible phones?
Nice article but Sprint is a bunch of liars. If that article was based on truth then there would not be so many issues with new phones on release. My old Samsung Moment is a premium example of this. That phone barely worked for the first 6 months it was out.

It didn't work for you doesn't mean it didn't work for others.

So that has to be Sprint's fault alone!?
Well forget that Samsung is involved in your venture. (Maybe even Google a little bit) If i have read right it is only recently that Samsung has become aware that to make customers happy, it has to keep up there side of support to ensure phones work properly- and I am mostly talking about when a phone needs to be upgraded, but it seems the article points out that most phones are released with problems -Furthermore- "fixes" are released post-deployment. If Samsung didn't care at the time the Moment was deployed, would they also be to blame or maybe both Samsung and Sprint? Maybe there has been a learning curve for all with Android?
In either case- bummer that you went through it. And I totally mean that. I hope you didn't pay much out of pocket for a lemon.
I keep reading articles about phones going to other providers, and if my girlfriends parents didn't live in a Sprint only area, or my job didn't need me to have a phone 24/7- I would jump ship. But for now, I have to be optimistic as I am stuck. If you or any others aren't stuck, move on or deal with it, and/or vent a little.
Me- i deal with what I got optimistically and well -"content" actually. We are so lucky to have these phones! They may have limitations, but if you look back just 4-5 years ago, look what the majority had for phones. I would have been happy just to read email on my phone. The fact that I can do just as much on my laptop as on my phone and sometimes faster on my phone- pure bliss. I do realize more and more that not everyone will always be happy, sorry if the article made you upset.
Yeah it was Samsungs fault too. For those not familiar the Moment was a very early android phone on Sprint with various software bugs early including 911 not working and a horrible gps. Thanks to the dev community the phone became workable. I just have a hard time believing that if the process really went like they claim phones would get released with so many issues and even now there are well known bugs in the current releases that just are not fixed. The reality is that these phones get rushed to market, carriers all want custom versions which creates development issues for manufacturers, and consumers have a choice between crap or junk.
I'm just fortunate this great dev community exists. Without you guys and all of your hard work I could never tolerate an Android phone. Without being rooted and running a custom rom it would be unbearable.

2500MHz is the frequency of Clearwire's TDD LTE. Which Sprint will be using along with their own 800 and 1900MHz frequencies.
Nice read by the way. Thanks for posting.
