[Q] A Question about GPS..... - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

hey i have a question. can anyone help? i unlocked my TP2 and got the internet to work. now im trying to get the GPS and MMS to work. ive tried everything but to no avail? The TP2 is running on ATT. can anyone help? Please? Pretty Please with Michelle Rodriguez on top?

what program are you using with gps? cant help with mms, i use tom tom and it works great.

well basically i unlocked the phone to run with ATT. it was originally a US Cellular unit. And ive gotten the data to work (finally thanks to you guys.) but i have not gotten to GPS to work. is there a certain COM setting that i need or something? MMS i have not gotten to work either. Im basically trying to set the phone up to work with ATT and im not sure what settings to use for the GPS or the MMS.

You still haven't answered the basic question of what program you are trying to get the GPS working on. Google Maps and Bing typically need no configuration in order to connect to the GPS.
One simple, free troubleshooting app is Visual GPSce (just Google it). Settings for the GPS are COM4 and 4800 baud. The app should quickly start seeing satellites once the GPS settings are entered. Otherwise you have something else going on.

I had a similar problem, and Visual GPSce did the trick for me.

FIDO GPRS SETTINGS HELP FOR IM portal

Before you go on to post "read the wiki" ,"search the thread noob" etcetc
Ive done that and i found no help for it other than some settings, which i already tried(didnt work) and ive gotten more settings from the fido csr
and ive plugged those in but still no.(tested gprs/edge by starting pocket IE)
no connection.
I've gotten the value pack for fido which includes the Instant messaging portal for msn and yahoo where i can chat and message and check email unlimited... now the only problem is i cant connect to gprs/edge to use it.
question 1. how do i get the dam settings to work?
question 2. am i able to use the messenger included in the rom? or do i need to use the one specifically for fido?
question 3. once the previous 2 are answered..... Am I able to make it where only the associated program uses gprs/edge for data..so that way if i use pocket ie on wifi i can still use watever im using with gprs?
ie: surf the net on wifi, while im chatting msn on gprs?
thats all i got for now,
I'm using a softbank x01ht with black majik rom.
Thanks for any help i receive.
When I first got a windows phone I was so determined to get it set for Fido's services. With my Universal it took me days to figure out what the settings were. I thought I knew everything after that. Turns out that there are a bunch of other factors such as MMS won't work until you've exchanged msg's with another FIDO customer. Also internet doesnt work without a proper plan first, it doesnt work like it used to , which was PAYG. Lastly the settings don't kick in until you reset the phone, and even then I have heard stories from some where it took upto half hour for some settings to kick in. I find it so complicated now that I seem to know where all the free wi-fi hotspots are around my area.
I hope this doesn't discourage you from figuring out ur settings through trial&error.
I encounter none of what you said. I dont use MMS so I am not familiar with ..all others is no big deal.
It takes me 30 seconds for set up and I am ready to go.
ps: I am on a unlimited for years.....
Well I guess it mustve been different with the Universal and your Hermes.
thanks for the feedback still havent figured it out as of yet though i do know theres supposed to be a dial out to *90# or something like that cant check the txt i received from fido right now.
anyways i hope to get it up soon, im gonna try to port over the IM program thats in my friends rogers tytn and see if i can change the settings on that thing for fido.
wish me luck
They toys bahave different

You bet money on it. I have an 8125 and also an 8525, both have exactly the same UI to set the connections up, however with exactly the same settings I´m able to surf the WEB, get GMail, all MSN Live services, etc only with my Wizard because with the Hermes I´m able to open just a very few wap sites. I´ve had this problem since day one with my Hermes and looking for a solution in this site and in many others I´ve found that I´m not the only lucky person with a $400 toy that performs worst than the cheapest Nokia, there´s a lot of people with same problem and nobody knows why this happens. For those who've got it working, could you please share HOW? It would be much appreciated.

VZ XV6800 - Do I Need Phone Service To Enable GPS?

I have an xv6800 that a buddy of mine gave me after an upgrade. It is currently running a sprint rom v3.35.651.2 (02/22/08). Radio Version 3.35.04. I am not wanting to service the phone in any way but just use it as a 'portable pc, to check email with when wi-fi networks are available' as well as a 'gps unit'.
I have done the hardspl (unlock)
I have updated the radio (3.35.04)
then threw on this sprint rom (3.35.651.2)
(configured the proper port settings)
I for the life of me can not get the gps unit to work. I know the phone (before I had it) was unlocked and running the gps. The same guy who owned the phone before me has also tried to unlock it from scratch again and get it back 'online' with no success.
I am wondering if an active voice plan on it is needed to enable the gps? I have tried to run through the tutorials myself a handful of times and still not able to get this thing to work with gps. Any help or information is much appreciated!

Google Maps and TMobile TP2 - cant get a good fix?

i use google maps a lot. In my previous device (Touch HD), using same SIM, I can find my location without GPS on, but generally, on the TP2 I cannot find my location without using GPS. I am on TMOB.
Anyone have a solution?
You got location fixes without GPS? As far as I know you have to have SOME form of GPS (be it GPS, aGPS, or quickGPS) to get a geographical position...
Quick search would have got you here:

The location feature doesn't work on 3G for some reason, just GPRS & EDGE.
can you pls check the link
ha did i really link back to this thread? ouch, sorry. i was doing quite a few things when i replied.

Serious GPS Problems I NEED HELP (UPDATE 4-12-10)FIXED

Hey guys. I know there are dozens of threads here on XDA about GPS problems. Well, I have sifted through many for weeks now, I have tried and tried tweaks, hacks, whatever and I am having no luck. I used to have my GPS working with bing, google maps, whatever. I installed TomTom and never got it to locate a GPS signal, since then I have not been able to get any GPS working that I can recall.
I am not sure if I have replaced or deleted some file during all these registry hacks and tweaks, so I am at a loss. I just want to get my GPS working. I am no noob, so please no rude remarks. I just need some help. I cannot get this thing licked for the life of me. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I am using an Energy Leo ROM with Sense 2.5 if that helps or matters to anyone.
Please, people, somebody help me get this GPS working again. THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE.
EDIT: I fixed it, if ur curious check out post #7

Since you're "no noob" I assume you've already hard-reset your phone...?? And/or tried the Task 29? And then re-flashed to a stock rom?
If you've done all of those things (surely you have if you've been troubleshooting for weeks) and GPS still doesn't work then it seems like you must have a hardware problem.
Yeah, thanks

Alright, figured I would get some type of remark anyways, but it's cool. I have done a hard reset which I was trying to avoid, but I have not reflashed to a stock ROM and back again. Once again, I was trying to avoid all of that, but if there isn't any other options, it seems like that's what I am going to have to do. It's just since I flashed to the energy ROM, my GPS did work, it just stopped working suddenly. Thought there could be some connection(s) settings that got changed or possibly a file lost or changed.
I am willing to reflash the phone, by all means, but I thought I would check with my fellow hacking badasses to see if anyone could come up with an actual idea instead of telling me to change the phone BACK to it's original out of the box state, but if not whatever, guess I might have to bite the bullet.
If anyone else has any ideas, please let me know. I'm gonna hold tight on reflashing the phone for a few days to see if anyone has any other ideas.
what version of TomTom are you using?
i found with TT7 it will not show how many sats you have. and its a bit of a faf getting it to work, but i do have it working like this
in the gps settings of the phone set theprograme port to com 4and the hardware port to com5 and the baud to 4800
in TT and go to gps settings under preferences
change the GPS device to other GPS set the com to com 5 or 4 (try both)
go outside in a field etc, and wait 10 mins, you will see the latitude etc change, wal around and it will keep changing, but there will be no blue bars to tell you your signal strenght etc

It's easier to help you if you say what you've tried -- a little more detail than you're giving. Like, after you hard-reset did you reflash the Enrgy rom and try the GPS before adding Tom-Tom? If you did a hard reset, returning the phone to the basic Energy rom (without Tom-Tom) and GPS still doesn't work then Tom-Tom isn't the problem. But who knows... good luck.

In my version of TomTom (ttn7.916.9189_qvga_blue) I find my satellites to be working no problem as per the display of locks on the navigation screen. No tinkering required.
As for the GPS issues, I would guess try another radio version. When you flash a stock ROM back on, it usually replaces the radio. In Southern California I find the .77 RADIO to be excellent with GPS.
Just update Quick GPS, try the .77 radio, stand out on the street for like 2 minutes so it can get a quick lock. With .77 GPS works in my house where it never did before.
I too had a helluva time getting this GPS working tits on the Touch Pro 2 when I first got it, now it's awesome!!
Thanks I will try

I have reflashed my ROM more than once since all of this began in order to fix this problem with no avail, but I cannot say that the radio every changed since I was reflashing with an Energy ROM each time, so I will try what your saying about flashing the radio with some different ones. I am not sure what my stock radio was, so I will just have to experiment, but I will get back to you after I give this a try and let you know what happened if anything.
Got it Working Now
So I tried flashing a new radio. I also found another setting, though in the settings panel that I believe fixed this. It is as follows:
Settings\Connections\Advanced Network
When you're in this area, check the GPRS tab at the bottom. It has two options to set your GPRS to, one is PAP the other is CHAP. Mine was set to CHAP, so I changed it to PAP and VOILA!! Went outside, used Quick GPS, used the HTC GPS Tool, and it found satellites. Then I opened up google maps, bing, TomTom, and they all worked perfectly. So, if anyone else is having a similar problem, then give this a whirl. Make sure you check out different radios as well. I have now and my signal is strong inside and outside with my phone calls, internet, and GPS.
Thanks everyone for the help

Must be your local servers. I was using CHAP without GPS problems. The only difference is that CHAP uses secure authentication with the servers. I'm in LA.
BTW, are you using the "Quick GPS" application to download satellite positions? It really speeds up signal acquisition.

T32 GPS Rom (Daxian)

I am opening a new thread because nobody replied to the gps issue some people have after flashing the Daxian t32 gps version phone with the "Dixian_x999_T32.zip" file.
(forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-390574.html)
Does anybody know how to activate the internal gps?
Does anybody have a rom that works with the gps version of that phone? - That would be great!
I tried several gps drivers (gpsmod and others) and none worked. I tried some standalone applications to talk to the gps as well as TomTom7 and google maps and none worked.
Somehow the gps connects to the satellite and gets the correct time stamp (TomTom with gpsmod driver) but it does not get any coordinates.
Is there a missing entry in the registry that activates the gps?
Help is appreciated, somone has to know how!
