[Q] ROM request to devs who might care - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried a bunch of ROMs and have liked many features of each of these but now I know what I really want and would be eager to try a ROM that might be the closest in terms of fulfilling my needs below:
1. A combined mail inbox & a combined mail widget. This is extremely critical and is the main reason I stick with the Incdoes sense despite other issues (camera, force closes) and I have not seen it in others except Cyanogen (but the limitation was it showed only 30days email, not all)...
A gmail widget too - strange that there is none currently from android. Very odd. In fact, why cant I just have 1 combined inbox and 1 combined widget for all my 5 email accounts (2 gmail accounts, 1 exchange, 1 yahoo, 1 hotmail)?
2. The bottom launcher row (think they call it ROSIE) should be 5 icons - 3 is just a waste of space, I want buttons for:
a. Phone
b. App drawer
c. SMS/MMS app
d. Email
e. Contacts
I have seen these floating around but not sure which 5 icon rows are compatible with which ROMs...
3. Functioning camera (ID has not been able to solve this yet, fingers crossed)
4. Stability (tired of phone rebooting once in a while)
5. Very good battery life (surprised that my jailbroken and heavily modded iphone 4 has much better battery life than the droid inc - its not even close)
6. A theme such as rEVOlution (love this theme)
7. Fast as a bat out of hell (but obviously)
8. Smooth, minimal lags, no jerkiness (Obviously)
9. Reboot options built into power button press (recovery, etc)
10. HTC or Google News kind of app & widget with google reader sync (hated newsrob and other market google reader apps and love the news widget in the desire hd port - another reason I cant move away from it).
11. Friendstream or similar widget for facebook and twitter - many people dont seem to like the htc widget but its perfect for me.
12. At least 7 home screens - cyanogen had just 5 - not enough for me... And why do all the ROMs stop at 7?
13. App organization within the App drawer. Sorry google, but alphabetic only sorting is not good enough. Can anybody help with this?
People, please feel free to add your list of desired features and hopefully the ROM devs will add the features many of us request.

I like your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. No seriously though. I am creating a ROM. I'm new at this so it might take a while though. It will be called conical. I have thread going about it.

hahahaha. i know it was long. i know i know. just could not stop myself once i started. will def check out your ROM.

2 - Have you tried Launcher pro? You can customize the dock icons to whatever you want.
5 - Mostly life is related to your kernel. Try KK#5 w/ setCPU
I've been using uncommon sense for a few days and it seems to hit on quite a few of your point.
Good luck!

Sounds like you need Virtuous 3.0.1 Rom with the Custom Kernel and Launcher Pro (Paid version). This will address these items
#1 - Good luck with this. I like mine seperated but suspect this will be an App thing not a ROM thing...
#2 - Launcher Pro has up to 15 customizable dock buttons (three 5 button docks)
#3 - Camera works great (720p video too)
#4 - The custom kernel is stable and the ROM is only lightly modded so less to crash
#5 - I use SetCPU and underclock my phone to 806Mhz and my phone is still smooth and has much better battery life (Also use screen off profile to set 384Mhz)
#6 - Revolution Theme is an option through Rom Manager for this ROM. Easily flashed.
#7 - Battery Life and Speed will be a trade off. I find the ROM smooth and nice to use.
#8 - See #7 (Sort of redundant)
#9 - Easily done with a mod that works with Virtuous. I have it on mine and was as simple as a flash through ROM manager. Also smooth sense Icons mod works so I have % on my battery icon.
#10 - Good luck with this. This isn't a ROM thing it is an App developer thing and is a serious hole in the Reader Market. I totally agree with you and currently just don't read my Google Reader content on my Phone.
#11 - Launcher Pro has the Twitter, Facebook and Friends widgets you want (Paid for version only but TOTALLY WORTH IT).
#12 - Launcher Pro has up to 7 screens (Not my thing I only use 4 but you can pick any number you want)
#13 - Check out App Folders in the Market. You can use it with Launcher Pro and map the App Drawer to App Folders and then customize away. Want a Games folder in your app drawer? Go for it...
I've used Uncommon Sense and Virtuous a lot and am back on Virtuous 3.0.1 with the custom kernel and Launcher Pro and I am getting batter battery life than I had but as mentioned I've underclocked my phone (except when plugged in) and have the screen off profile max speed at 384.
Just tinker a bit more and you'll get everything you want with what is out there except combined mailboxes and a google reader app worth a crap. Good luck!

Thanks guys. Appreciate still the help! Only thing I can't figure out is how to use app folders with the app drawer. Need some help please. Rest all made sense and have been making those work.

1) Long hold the app drawer icon in the dock (For Launcher Pro)
2) Click Shortcuts
3) Click Applications Folder
4) Click All Applications Radio Dot
5) Click Menu
6) Click OK
Then you can click the app drawer icon to open app folders as all applications and then start making folders inside the new app drawer presentation.

Thanks! Will try right away.

Launcher pro question

Anyone else have trouble using the contacts button on the dock? It won't work at all for me, and just says failed to launch action.
Also is it possible to just get launcher pro plus in one hit or do your have to d/l it all separate?

No problem here, I added contacts manually, rather than using the default one though (it may be trying to link to the default Android or Sense contacts app).
Long press -> "Change shortcut" -> application -> contacts
Same here, but changed to the original one and worked.

im assuming you're talking about fancy widget which is not part of launcher pro, its a separate apk file that isnt on the market anylonger cause htc were gonna sue them or something. google fancy widget 1.3 and you should get it or if someone can post a link here that would be good also.

Legend!
I am still new to android, and I know it appeared to be a simple fix, but it was not so apparant to me.
Thanks.
btw, is there anywhere in particular to get good custom icons for launcher pro?
I heard a lot of people here talking about Launcher Pro so I read some reviews and saw a few YouTubes of it in action.
I really couldn't see much difference between it and the TouchWiz interface that the I9000 has.
Can someone here tell me the key features it has that TW doesn't have and why you like it so much?
TIA

Customizable dock (look and icons).
Has additional features including static wallpaper, HTC sense preview, etc, etc.
Feels very smooth.
I don't really use it anymore but I used it quite a bit on HTC Magic because it was so customizable. I'll probably use it on my Galaxy S when I can remove touchWiz and switch it with LauncherPro.

want to go from Sense to AOSP. Can you help me with my transition?

i have been using sense since i got my evo i do enjoy it a lot but after playing with CM6 and other AOSP roms i love the speed and the feel of the rom. the problem is, there are a few things in sense that are absent in aosp that always keep me coming back to sense. do you guys have some recommendations for some of the following problems?
-linking facebook contacts with current contact (it only works if the names are exactly the same)
-The stock dialer is horrible IMO. i like how in sense i can just tap the keypad and it will search my contacts
-Is there any better camera apps? the aosp one is fugly
-any good agenda widgets? i like the one in sense the best so far
-are there any good facebook stream widgets like friendstream?
-what aosp kernal gives me the best combo of speed and battery? in your opinion
-gmail is great, except for the fact that i cant zoom on anything. what do you think the best alternate email app is?
when i look at it written down like this it doesnt really seem like it should be so hard of a transition for me but for some reason it is, lol.
also rather than making a whole new thread, what is the difference between the free version of launcher pro and the donate?

I had heard that you could sync Facebook contacts in the CM6 Nightly, but I am not familiar with that part.
For the dialer, Dialer One from the Market.
Camera, I like FXCamera, Market as well.
Agenda widgets, I dunno, but Launcher Pro Plus has calendar and Contact widgets that mimic the sense ones. Also in the Plus version, you can resize any widgets however you like, just a tap away.
I actually prefer ADW Launcher, mostly cause you can add rows and columns to the homescreen.
Hey... I think this thing makes phone calls too!

Turn on FB contact sycing from the official app, sounds like you did that already. You could also try to manually link contacts, edit contact, press menu and choose join. You'll see a list of possible accounts (FB included) to join.

I use Snap 7.5. It possibly gives the best battery life of any ROM/Kernel combo, Sense ROMs included.
Jorte calendar is nice, and its free!
thanks guys. currently i have my phone unrooted because i needed to take it to the sprint store, but when i finally get my replacement ill load cm6 on there. i think im gonna try launcherpro and dialer one. still dont know what kernal to use though. does snap 7.5 have better battery than 7.6 w/ turbo? ill give that agenda widget a shot too. hopefully this time i can make that full transition.

Windows Phone 7 Custom HUB

OK guys, I am starting an new project. I will be creating an hub similar to the HTC Hub - however it can not be so similar that is a direct copy. Please let me know in here any requests you guys have. I will continue to update this thread as I progress. The end version will be a paid version, however I will lower the price during a set period of time so that those who contribute will be able to grab a copy for 99 cents and those who do a substantial amount of help will get it free - I will code a secondary system in an update if I can not do this on the marketplace the way I want to. I will clean this post up after a couple of days and skim through the thread for features requested and make a mock-up.
Note: In order to pass certification it will be required that the back button exits the app, I can over-ride this and allow an exit through a settings panel to disable /re-enable.
Awesome... count me in to try this bad boy out!
I will move this to SW development since this is an ongoing project, once this is close to an actual product, PM me and I will move it back. IE beta.

In this hub:
1. Allow to add our own weather widget or clock
2. Don't want fancy animation like the one in HTC, very annoying. Some minor animation or transition effect will do
3. Allow to category the apps with zune UI concept. Critical feature as I don't want to keep putting all my apps in homescreen tiles or the second screen list of apps which is getting too long now. Should have option to choose to display the apps as in tiles layout or list or icon.
4. Option to put wallpaper in Hub background, just like our picture hub.
great idea !hope you will do differently than in htc
!!
What is the purpose of the hub going to be? and how can the rest of us developers plug into it?
I'd like to see a weather animation, if windows' hub's being pinned to the homescreen. Furthermore it would be nice, if you could implement sth that enables us to change the tile's size again if pinned to the homescreen.
Another "innovation" would be from my point of view, if the windows hub on the homescreen would open "another" fully customizable homescreen, i.e. you have your regular homescreen and in case you feel it is overloaded you reproduce your applications within the windows hub attached to the regular homescreen that opens another homescreen, very much like the folder solution implemented with iOs 4. "screw me"?
Love to get my stocks on there also.
Thanks
Marty
its great idea bro, cant wait for this,it will change history of wp7!!!!!!
Thanks for the ideas so far, keep em coming.
I would like to be able to see sports scores as part of the hub.
I can't seem to find a decent app for WP7 that handles these.
not sure about the htc hub, but in the samsung equivalent, there is a section on latest news. i dont like this as there arent much im interested in but if you could have a built in rss reader in the hub, that'd be awesome.
I'd like to see a messaging widget like the one on htc's sense for android. I'm not sure if its implementable though.
Just retrieving the messages and displaying it on a sense-like interface will do.
Im just so bored of reading messages in the wp7's plain messaging environment
A hub replacement for HTCs...Hmmm...My vote..
1. Weather (stream lined, 5-10 day forecast with good but fast images)
2. News (RSS feed?, AP news/MSNBC/CNN, to be able to customize page, local/country/subject, etc)
3. Stocks
4. Sports Scores/Stats/standings, also to be able to see all scores but, follow a team/sport, I'd love to see tons of options here
5. Custom RSS section, so you can add a few web pages that offer RSS feeds.
Sounds like a great idea I'll be following this one...

Totally agree.
Also,
1. A comm manager? So it's easy to toggle radio/wifi/bluetooth on and off
2. A clock like HTC sense, with weather underneath (not the gay apps section which I don't use, if I want an app I use the market place or to launch an app I just slide right and down to the app I want to launch).
With all these ideas, They should be easy to navigate around, instead of creating hyperlinks, maybe make it so each page is a slide to the right, like the metro theme, this will look much easier and be much easier to use rather than using hyperlinks!

One thing I would love... Make the "live tile" customizable by content.
For Example, during the day it could show weather based on GPS but, during a baseball game(or pick your sport), it will update with current scores on the second and a click of the tile during a game will bring you right to your sports page.
This could work the Same for a few stocks during trading hours but, one the market is closed, go back to a default of weather (an example)
Custom Content where you need it, when you need it.
I think when you click on the tile (AKA open the Hub) it should go into a Weather/Time/Wi-fi/blu-tooth settings/status... kind of a status page but, a flip will bring you to different content.
Just trying to come up with ideas for this. Hope this helps !

Yes me too.

[Q] I'm going to be switching from an iphone....Will the nexus/android do this...

Hey guys,
I have finally decided to make the switch to Android with this phone, however I do have a question I was hoping to answer before I switch...
One of the features I missed on my Iphone was being able to turn on my phone and have the homescreen display my outlook calendar and to do list(windows phone). I have tried doing some research and some hands on the Verizon store so I know about widgets...although the ones on the droidx I played with were very small.
So my question is...can I set my homescreen to give me half the screen worth of outlook events/tasks and then move everything else to other pages? Sorry if this is a repeat/stupid question but I appreciate the help!
The calendar app has a widget which will show your calendar apps, you can sync to outlook via various means including exchange activesync for your e-mail.
You also can download a app like Jorte it has several different widgets sizes like. 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 of the screen size.
I use Launcher Pro Plus. Great widgets (calendar, agenda, facebook, tweeter, etc). I hope app will get updated for ICS
Also the CalenGoo app has tonnes of different size widgets for all your needs!

this looks like it will work great!
soon as I switch there will be no more excuses why I forgot to do something!
you can also install widget locker and display all of this on your lock screen (the initial screen you see when you turn the screen on)
Haha as you see there are many ways to do things on Android. +1 for Possibility.
you can do almost anything on android. super customizable! That's the beauty of Android.
Jorte can do this
There is also an app called Pure that is a highly customizable widget for your ToDo app of choice and Calendar, and looks much better IMHO. Jorte is the best calendar I've seen and that's what I use as an app, but with Pure you can skin the widget (I like highly transparent) and set all sorts of options so it looks perfect on the home screen...
So yes, the beauty of Android is you have TONS of options to do what you are looking for... Granted I haven't used an iPhone before, but I venture to guess you'll have many more options than you have now.

[Q] Best Twitter widget for alternative launcher

Hi,
Wondering if anyone can give me some ideas on the ideal twitter widget for my specific needs, because I've seemingly tried them all and not found one that beats the Sense one (Yes I know most people seem to hate it, but I'm not most people )
In particular, I want a widget that either can replace or work with the HTC Twitter app.
The one feature of the HTC app which I love is the ability to preview the links in a tweet in an integrated browser. I know some other apps do this, but not in such a user friendly way (imo)
Attachment shows what I mean. While I like Plume, and it has an integrated browser, that is only full page - the HTC app lets you look at the tweet while previewing the link.
I tried about 10 apps last night, and the one one I can find that comes close to the same behaviour was ubersocial. Unfortunately, the widget seems to have a problem with sizing on the HOX, not to mention that its not scrollable.
I realise the behaviour I'm detailing above is in the app - but what I'd like is a widget I can use in Apex that will either open the tweet directly in the HTC app (or ubersocial) or another app with similar features.
At the moment I have to use a separate widget to preview the posts, then open the HTC app and find the same tweet and use the preview function. Or use Plume (whose widget I don't really like and isn't themeable out of the box) and read the tweet OR the link, but not both together.
May seem an odd request, but I can't believe I'm the only one who likes the HTC app but prefers using a different launcher?
BTW, I'm mostly talking about web page links - I know that many of the programs show images inline with the tweet.
Any suggestions as to other ones I should try?
Last night I tried the following:
Colorize widget
UberSocial
TweetDeck
TweetCaster
Android Pro Widgets
Seesmic
Twidroyd
Twitter
Plume
Pure Messenger
and none of them did exactly what I wanted, though UberSocial was close.
Any further suggestions?
Gavin
And, that's why we get HTC phones with Sense; it comes fully armed with (mostly) best-in-class widgets & apps. Sorry I cannot be of much help since I'm right where you are - only, I've given up and rediscovered why I go with HTC, and not Samsung, to begin with.
Enjoy the hunt and kindly let us know if you find a worthy replacement.
Cheers
I use Android Pro Widgets, closest thing I've found to friendstream yet and they have good widgets for bookmarks, messages, calendar if you want to ditch Sense completely and go aosp.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rdr.widgets.core
I personaly use "plume", The widget is very nice .
