[REQ] Galaxy Tab unlock - Galaxy Tab Android Development

Good evening gentlemen.
The Galaxy S and all its variants have an unlock tool, working on a simple method of fetching the code from one of the files on the phone.
I have also seen that some folks who couldn't quite get the easy method to work would actually change some things in their nv_data.bin, which also allowed them to unlock their phones.
I was hoping that some kindly dev, with far too much time on his hands, would figure out a way to unlock the Galaxy Tab in the same way (seeing as both machiens are so similar).
I will help out with whatever I can - files, adb commands, logs, etc - because I want to give my Tab as a gift to a friend, but the damn thing is locked up tight to Vodafone

Galaxy TAB unlock
I tested variant unlock process from Samsung Galaxy S by generating unlock code but didn't work. Process is based on sgux.exe tool that extract code from nv_data.bin file.
I am waiting for an alternate method to get unlock code for this exciting device.
Thanks in advance

there is a person at android.modaco.com who will get the unlock code for your device if you send him the IMEi no. (he tells you how) and your carrier and location... for a fee... 19 UK... fyi
It's in the sticky post at the top of their Galaxy Tab forum

Is there a free way to do it?

I just think I unlocked mine using a similar method to posted above.
Will post instructions shortly when can confirm. Exciting!
Edit: I wrote up a short guide of what I did here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838424

I prefer to use a confirmed procedure for using with TAB because I tried some working methods for SGS without results at TAB device.
Thanks

I can confirm that this unlock method works, see the link posted above (I even included some screenshots).

I confirmed this method works fine, my Galaxy tab (SFR reunion island) unlock great, thanks again

Yep, it works, I have my tab unlocked a few weeks ago that way but the serial number of the device on the about turn s into 00000000 .. Only problem I have found. Been using it without any glitch so far but I'm still looking for a way that does not mess the device serial number..

Sorry to do not be confident on your procedure, I purchased device two days ago and really worry about an error may brick it. I follow procedure and can confirm you, it works.

Thanks smithdc and helroz! This method worked great for me on portuguese GT! And it's really easy too...
Especially smithdc's guide is very easy to follow!
One thing though: don't bother to buy Root Explorer just to move/copy/delete files. A little linux command line knowledge (easy things like "cd, cp, rm" or even "mkdir" - google it if U don't know what I'm talking about) will do the trick using terminal emulator (check out at market). Also I'm using an amazing little proggie called WiFiKeyboard (market again) to use my keyboard to write out the commands on the GT!
If U want your GT rooted and unlocked this is the way to go! Thanks to all the people who have worked on this!! Cheers!

It unlocked mine but I cant get it to work right wit ATT.

Yes, I does change the serial numbers to all zeroes.
You could probably just roll back your nv_data.bin file/you have the serial on the back of your Tab and there should be a way to just edit it back in, in the future.

And the drawbacks to having all zaros for a temporary serial # would be??
I get the warranty issues but I just wanna make sure im not missing something

Well none so far, or that I can think of.
Even with warranty you could just restore the original files. Or if you had broken it so badly that they couldn't load it up then it wouldn't matter anyway.

Tis what I thought....preciate ya bro!!
And all your work.

Oneclick Rooting for the Nexus

I have not tried this but here is a translation of what they are saying and here is the link for the download for the One-Click rooting... from the translation I am guessing it it Hamster who did this. Someone who can better translate German, if anything in this translation is off please pm and I will correct ...oka1
****
Only yesterday we reported on how one of the orig. Firmwares of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus can flash back to the phone. Today, it's going to be made and it is followed by a really simple tool to allow root access to the Galaxy Nexus.
The moderator, hamster's handy-faq for this has created a small program that grabs most of the otherwise necessary manual steps into one simple application.
On the subject of root and firmware flash, etc. is given here as usual to note that everything you do, at your own risk!
Link: http://www.mobiflip.de/2011/12/samsung-galaxy-nexus-1-click-root-tool-by-hamster/
First you have the one-click tool by hamsters from handy-faq
Necessarily in the mobile phone in Settings-> Developer Tools-> Enable USB debugging
Samsung Driver Download
Connect the mobile phone and the one-click tool run by hamsters
The rest the tool will do spontaneously
After the rooting other app will be effective, for example, then the apps like Titanium B/up, Backing up your batches, or install the Recovery ClockworkMod etc.
anyone tried this?
Yup, translation is fine. Guessing that's done from Google, but it's pretty clear what it says.
I'd add that anyone doing this should backup their stuff first from the storage partition.
Done it right now and it works like a charme.
But on x64 systems i got problems installing the adb drivers
XP mode helps ;-)
Is there root yet that can be done without a computer or at least with linux?

You can try adb and fastboot commands
First download r3-galaxynexus-superboot.zip ( attached ) and unpack
After that, unlock your device in fastboot-mode ( if locked )
./fastboot-linux oem unlock
Then open install-superboot-linux.sh
Done
i hope it works

Of course, your device has! to be unlocked before you use the tool!
Should work on Verizon Devices, when it works with Pauls r3, thats the boot image that the tool uses.
Does this unlock the Bootloader as well?

Removing preinstalled apps on Xperia play

Hi,
I am been researching for few weeks now. Being just an android user and a beginner level android developer, I am kind of lost in trying to solve my issue. I bought a Xperia Play. It is carrier unlocked. The main issue is the internal memory which keeps getting filled up from time to time, that makes me sacrifice some less used but important apps. I would like to make use of my phone more efficiently and utilise it to its maximum potential. Request someone to help me achieve this by helping me remove these apps.
Thanks
you have to root your phone first and u will find a tutorial im the development section... And after that you can use titanium backup to remove those apps
Hi,
Thanks for the info. But I am kind of lost when I went through the forum. Can you please guide me a specific one? Thanks.

You could unlock your bootloader. You can do this here: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
This enables you to flash custom Kernels and Roms. Although you don't need this if you only want to root your phone, but in my experience custom roms and kernels are a great advantage if you want to get more out of your phone
The rooting thread would be this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325334

Thanks Bombasti, but the unlock boot loader from sony mobile does not work for phones with IMEI numbers greater than 14 digits. Further, I also tried SuperOneClick but I keep getting the errors in Step 1 stating that the "rm failed for /data/local/tmp/boomsh. No such file directory", Step 2 also returns similar result. Can you help. Thanks.

This is not correct. You just have to enter the 14 first digits. So it should work for your phone unless there are other restrictions (e.g. from your phone provider).
Did you try it with the first 14 digits?
Also did you run SuperOneClick as administrator? I have no idea how SupoerOneClick works, but the error says that it can't remove a directory that doesn't exist. Maybe you can create the dir on your phone to fool the program?
Greetings,
Bombasti
-----------------------EDIT:---------------------
I checked the SuperOneClick thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682/
The R800i isn't listed as compatible device, what doesn't mean it's not compatible since the list is incomplete. But I remember that it didn't work for my phone either ( I tried it some time ago). I solved the problem through flashing an already rooted rom. Later i user Cyanogenmod which rooted from the beginning. But this needs an unlocked bootloader first...

[Root/Unlock] LG Optimus F6 T-Mobile

Hello users I have recently bought a new T-Mobile LG Optimus F6.
For those of you who may have just purchased one or need one rooted and or unlocked here is how to do it.
Root:
Download MotoChopper.zip that is attatched at the bottom.
Then place your phone in Debugging mode. Also check unknown sources in security.
Unzip the MotoChopper and look for "run.bat"
Once that is all done you should have root access.
Unlock:
I use Blowfish Unlocks. You can use who ever you prefer.
Dial *#06# and that will be your IMEI number.
Next submit for the code and wait.
When it comes back use: SIM_UNLOCK=00000000000000
Now to enter the code you have to put in a non supported sim and dial 2945#*500#
Then choose Network Unlock and enter your code. If the first code doesnt work do not panic.
You have 10 attempts and you usually get back 5 different codes. Try them until one works. But to be sure double check that you submitted the right IMEI to begin with.
Enjoy
works

Question about the rooting
Is the rooting all that is needed to enable tethering without the paying of an additional fee to T-Mobile? Basically being held hostage....... and will the phone be capable of OS updating in the future?

what's the difference T-mobile v MetroPCS
Metro sold me the F6 based on the fact it works on the T-mobile networks LTE. However, I am having a hard time living with an unrooted phone so I'm hoping to use motochopper to root. But someone said it will not work. Is there really that much difference between those sold by T-mobile and those from Metro?
I "upgraded" from a Motion to have bigger screen, and now I find out that may have actually been a step down? WTF!?
All I want to do is unbloat and get rid of "insufficient storage" errors. Shouldn't be so tedious!

You can root with the vroot method.
There's some questions about what it does exactly but it does work. I should point out that the program and its cousin program are under community investigation due to possibly shady dealings with pulling and pushing files. Its cousin program (kango or something) Has been shown to pull imeid off phones and apparently send them, unencrypted, to a Chinese server.... but it's the only thing I've found to be a proven working root.
Can't unlock boot loader so no custom roms but you can debloat.
I've discovered that both my l9 and my f6 hold onto the storage allotment for moved downloads...
Not sure if you get my drift...
If you download a file to internal and move it to sd it still shows up in "downloads" when you check the storage in your settings.
To solve it open settings/storage/unmount sd and then open downloads under internal storage and delete files you know you moved.

Rooting isn't the problem. This works fine. I know. But what is with grabbing/spy and other sensitive data? That's the question. I've read that personal data be spied by a china server.
Please read my link.
Two quotes from my link:
I can confirm that something unknown/suspicious is being uploaded to your PC on running the android root.exe file. The IP address (hex) corresponds to a website/location in ZH (China) (whois). My antivirus and firewall blocked it out, and the programme halted on my PC, and I couldn't root my mom's New Samsung galaxy trend duos. I uninstalled the app & thank goodness I was running the file sandboxed.....caveat emptor everyone......

The tool isn't allowed on the forums right now, we're still working out some issues with them. Biggest issue being sending sensitive data unencrypted to their servers in China and grabbing the IMEI with no apparent reason. When that is solved the whole issue will be reassessed.

It does work, if you look here you will see that a lot of people had success with it.
Although the exe seems clear, the problem is that it requires permission from my firewall to connect to internet and download additional drivers(?). This is definitely suspicious as they could had been included in the exe. And as a user said it tries to connect to some ip that is chinese. I wanted to root my lg g pad using kingo but i had seen the thread you mention and as xda doesnt support this app i ll wait till they find a way to unlock bootloader and install a custom recovery.

The question isn't if this tool works (it works as it is verified by so many members), it's if this tool is dangerous and none of you could answer to that.
Apparently, all of you who have rooted your g pad with kingo app had your private data and imei sent to an unknown chinese ip.

oh ok, took down my pic, (no need to "advertise" how bad I am at reading a post, my name says enuf!) i got it now : )
ty for giving me yet another thing to worry about..lol j/k
k, well since there's nothing that I can do about it now since some Chinese guy is pouring over my Gmail acct as we speak,
i'll just go over there -----> & join the row of "sitting ducks" and "Chicken Littles" waiting for the sky to fall : )
Ms D
I updated the root thread with a little warning. I would recommend restoring to stock and then try rooting that way you have nothing in your data to be stolen (besides the IMEI). I hope someone will be brave enough to try the other root method from the G2 so we don't risk anything... anyone try it yet? (from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887)
If someone can confirm it to work I will update the root thread with that root method. I would try but I do not have the G pad yet

I tried the root method for the G2. While it worked very well for my d800 G2, it did NOT work on my G Pad.
SuperUser was copied onto my pad, but root was not successfully obtained There are no ill effects from the failure though.

I have rooted with Kingo. Out of curiosity I ran malwarebytes anti malware tool from google play. Everything came up clean no trojans, etc. Not a guarantee but somewhat comforting,

I just checked the "android_root.exe" on VirusTotal.com . Found 3/47 Trojan. So I'm definitly not running it on my os. -.- Waiting for a more secure method.

Alternative method of unlocking the bootloader - without code from HUAWEI ?????

hi there
i bought a p8 lite 6 month ago and huawei did not give me the unlock code,
so i searched and find this thread on p8 lite forum and i unlock my bootloader..
2 things..
1 - the phone must be rooted
2 - we must know which memory block the unlock code is placed..
su -c "grep -m1 -aoE 'WVLOCK.{14}[0-9]{16}' /dev/block/mmcblk0p7 |grep -aoE '[0-9]{16}'"
any idea?
guys..come on..

Yeah come on, lol.. Have you tried/heard about the octoplus huawei tool??
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f1053/latest-version-octoplus-huawei-tool-link-download-2469582/
Edit: to answer your first post..
To read 'grep' that partition, you need to be rooted.
To be rooted, you need an unlocked bootloader.
This wasn't the case for some earlier versions of android.

I'll install it later on and have a look, I only just installed windows on an old laptop.
I don't want to unlock my device just yet but it's just for the code anyways.

Yeah looks like it, can't find a working version without card just yet. I've tried a few ones but this one in link below may work with your device, it's listed in the menu.
Make sure your in maintenance mode by dialing the number shown on screen in program to access menu.

Edit: Having another look I think they might want credits but unsure cos my device not recognised.
I found a working version of miracle box but I don't think you can retrieve the unlock code with that.
