For some internal softwares such as "Finance/Listen/music..." may not be used, I want to delete these softwares. But I can't find the way or app to do it. How can I do?

If you are rooted, go to market and get a file explorer for root. You can access system files. Make sure the fike explorer has su permissions and once in file manager you mount from ro to rw and go to system / app. I use root explorer. Hope this helps. Titanium Backup easiest. It has an uninstall feature.

Yeah just to simplify the other guy's response just use titanium backup. Then go to the backup/restore tab, find the finance app, then tap it and select uninstall. It's that easy

In my experiences, I'd say that disabling the app would be a better option. I only say this because the recent OTA update wouldn't go because Google Goggles was completely uninstalled and there was no way for me to force the installation. I ended up jumping through hoops and balancing a ball on my nose to get the app re-installed so that the update would be clean.
In short, you might run into issues in future updates, should there be any, if you uninstall apps. If you don't want it shown or running, disabling it won't run the service and the icon disappears. Besides, the amount of disk space you gain from removing it is incredibly small.
while i agree that disabling the apps was best when we didn't have perm root, now we can write to /system so if an update comes out we can just put the apps back and apply, or wait a few hours and get a rooted update with all the stuff we need from the OTA and we don't have to worry about stuff not working because app X was removed

Is it possible to delete the stock browser with a custom ROM? At the moment if I try and do it from the Manage applications view it doesn't give me the option. But I was wondering if I could manually locate it and delete it without causing any stability issues?

You can. ADB from recovery (S-ON), Root explorer (S-OFF).
But I don't know if it causes stability issues - never tried it.
It can be done and has no bearing on anything - just means you can't browse until you get one from the Market
Yes, can confirm that! I'm using Dolphin HD - so removed the stock about an hour ago. No problems.
I can add stock email, news/weather & chat apps to this list - no effect on other apps performing these functions, at least on Oxygen 2.0.1 anyway...

For me it was system/app/Browser.apk
Removed with Root Explorer.

Ah yeah got to that file using Astro but it's only 684KB, yet when I look in Manage Applications it says that the Internet is 13.76MB.
Unless this includes other data rather than just the Browser, but I'm not so sure?

Probably cache and some settings. In manage applications, clear the data (if that's possible), then remove the .apk
in my opinion the best way to remove system apps is to install Titanium Backup (have the phone rooted), then go to apps in titanium backup then hold your finger on it , the menu appears, slide down and click on remove(using recovery bug)...

Only you can remove it, if you have S-OFFed your phone. And I cant help you with that,I have it deleted already. But should be over there somewhere.
I've rooted my phone using the Unrevoked method and have CWM. But when I've checked the H-Boot screen it says I have S-ON, how do I get it Off?

Thanks for this I think I'm going to try the ADB method as it looks a little easier. Plus I did read someone if you remove S-Off it can be permanent and effect warranty.

Apps are stored in /system/apps (may vary with rom?). There are a couple of options:
Titanium backup is free from market and will permanently remove any apps - you need root and s-off for this. Root explorer can be used for the same - just delete the .apk file.
You can also do it via cmd prompt and adb, look for detailed threads about this in these forums!
OK I now have S-Off on my phone and its also now obviously rooted but I still cannot delete my stock browser. I've tried using Titanium Backup but I can't locate it to delete it, I've also tried Root Explorer but when I try to delete the Browser.apk it comes up with the following message:
Browser.apk cannot be deleted because the file system is read only.
Also I've wiped data and deleted many of the stock HTC apps & widgets but I don't seem to be freeing up much if any space. My Low on Space indicator has been on throughout even though I have got rid of the following:
Footprints,
Footprints Widget,
Friend Stream,
Friend Stream Widget,
Music,
Music Widget,
News and Weather,
Peep,
Photo Widget,
Stocks,
Stocks Widget,
Teeter,
Twitter Widget,
Weather Widget.
Does it actually free up much space un-installing these?
Can anyone please help with these issues?

The reason Root Explorer comes with that error is because the system folder is mounted ass read only (you can't edit anything on it)
Fix:
1. Browse to system/app
2. In the upper right corner there is a mount R/W button, press it
3. Now you can read and write and therefore also delete the browser.apk
4. Remember to mount as R/O when done
It doesn't free up space as they are located in /system and regular apps are installed in /data.

Where on the HTC Desire storage are these applications located? And why are they not simply uninstallable the normal way?

I see that you are s-off so this is easy to do. Navigate to /system /app and you will see an apk file for each app. Delete. Done!
I find root explorer the best app for this work - some other explorers won't display thus location or delete the files.
Easiest way would be Titanium Backup. Can disable apps and even better uninstall them from system if you're s-off.
You could also delete them in recovery using adb.

Also if you're s-off you can use Android Commander:
- reboot to recovery
-mount /system
- plug USB and start Android Commander
-delete anything you want
- reboot to system

Hi,
I just got my new SE Xperia Play phone and got it with android Gingerbread on it, I'm not completely familiar with this OS but following information that I've read I rooted my phone and it is working fine, I did this cause I read that by doing this I would be able to remove and add apps to my phone as I became a Super User on the Linux side of it. Now my questions is, How can I do this? I've tried to find like an step by step add and remove apps on my phone with no luck. Also I'd like to get some information on what can I do and what I can't (or shouldn't do) with my super user rights ( i found this but not sure how to add this titanium backup on my phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046699).

you can delete any apps including system apps by using TITANIUM BACKUP.
once you've installed it and run it click on the backup/restore tab at the top then select whatever app you want to remove (system apps inluded) click that app and there will be an uninstall option.
BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU DELETE!

oh ok I get it, so it is available through the android market.. now that is for the Uninstall stuff part (thanks to both) now in order to get stuff installed into the phone is it there an option for that or can I do it using the linux terminal that is installed on the phone?

OK, I have been where you are, and maybe this VERY brief summary will get you started.
1. Root - you did that.
2. Download and install the CWM for locked bootloaders from this link here.
3. Follow the instructions to power off, then power on and press down on the Volume Down key to enter the recovery mode. Then go to the Backup/Restore menu and backup the phone. This creates a Nandroid, or image of the phone so you can put it back to rooted stock if you mess something up.
4. Download and install Titanium Backup from the App Market. You can use this to uninstall any bloatware, including System files, but use with caution so you won't need to use your Nandroid! There is a safe list thread here that will give you some help in what you can remove.
5. Apps for Android usually come from the Android Market, or another market that hosts Android apps like Amazon AppMarket, etc. So any program you want to install will generally need to come from there. (Yes, I know there are some apps around that some Joe Ubertech wrote, but in general, you will want to get apps from the Market or a Vendor site, like Gameloft or EA.)
6. Use an App2SD program to move as many apps to your SD Card as are able to go. This frees up internal storage so you can run smoothly and have a lot of apps too. I like Droidsail Super App2SD (ROOT) because it lets you select a group of apps at one time to move. Do NOT move to SD any app that is accessed through a widget, or any replacement launcher program.
7. Be aware that Programs marked as System files cannot be moved to SD. However, some of them, like the preinstalled games, GMail, Youtube, etc, are also found in the Market. You can either delete them and reinstall them from the Market, or use a program like Root Explorer to manually move these to a folder on the SD card. Then reboot your phone, and you can reinstall them as user apps and be able to move them to SD as well.
8. Read. Read, read, read, READ everything you can get your hands on here in xda. It has been the best source of info for the Xperia Play.

Hopefully the question says it all really. How can I disable a system app in the EliteMod/AOKP ROM? I've tried googling this but can't find any way of disabling the system delivered Facebook app.
Under andromadus or cyanogen mod ROMs I could use the pm command in a terminal but this doesn't seem to be applicable here as it fails. Does AOKP bring its own package manager?

There is no 'system delivered' Facebook app in EliteMod (nor in AOKP I don't think). You actually have to download and install Facebook from the Play store. Yours was probably automatically installed when you signed into google, in which case, just uninstall it.
But normally for 'system' apps you goto Manage app, tap on it, and then the 'disable' button. Just be aware that some actual system apps may break the phone if disabled.
facebook is safe to get rid of altogether, use titanium backup to delete it or root explore, or through terminal or adb. any of these methods can remove it

Assuming you know where exactly to look if the OP is talking about more than just the downloaded Facebook app you could just 'uninstall' from Manage Apps.
I wonder if the OP is talking bout an AOKP rom with EliteKernel on it? In which case it would depend on how AOKP itself was distributed, I know That EliteMod Rom (kernel and rom, and nothing else) does not come with Facebook.

Thanks for your responses. I was able to delete it using titanium backup. manage apps gave me options only to uninstall updates, but not the app itself which makes me believe it was shipped with the ROM. I'm using the EliteMod ROM with kernel for ICS as per this thread...

I'm using the same (note my signature), it doesn't come with Facebook, but your google account will re-install it automatically upon signing in if you have your google account set up to do so. You should be able to uninstall the main Facebook app itself form manage apps (would appear under downloaded).
Though I get the same thing you do, and I imagine that you would have to uninstall updates before you can uninstall the main app.
however if you searched Facebook for Android in the Google Play market, you would see the Open / Uninstall options right there.
So next time (for a downloaded app, as we determined Facebook is not a system app in this case):
1) Try from Manage Apps
2) Try from Google Play
3) Try other means (titanium backup, or going in thru 'adb shell' and removing the apk from /data/app/)

I noticed you were/are running the same ROM, but it's still odd. I did try looking at Facebook in the play store, but again there was no uninstall option. Still, the end result is that Facebook is no more. At some point I'm going to implement dataswap, after I've backed up my sd card and I'll take another look then.
I did check the EliteModICS120706.zip and it does contain a com.facebook.katana.zip under the system/app directory. Whilst I'm familiar with Linux (and of course Android is based on this), does its inclusion in the ROM zip file mean that it is automatically installed

I can confirm that both the likes of com.twitter.android.apk and say com.facebook.katana.apk are present under /system/app but course com.facebook.katana-1.apk is present under /data/app for me since I installed it.
I *think* the two that comes with Android are notification/tie-ins with the rest of the system, i.e.: what allows you to connect say Twitter/Facebook/Yahoo/Google/Etc account to the rest of the phone for means of notification and contact imports etc. I just know that I actually had to install the Facebook app before that option would even show up under System Settings -> Accounts.
By the way when you partition the SD Card for sd-ext (which is what is advised for dataswap), depending on your type of recovery, do not create a second sd-ext, and preferably skip the swap as well, so you should only have two partitions on the SD Card, a sd-ext and the FAT32 (for your normal /sdcard stuff). The dataswap mod will put a swap file within /data/local since most of your apps will be moved from /data/app and /data/app-private over to /sd-ext/app*
And furthermore, don't bother to move any of your apps "to SD card" when using sd-ext, since they are all already on the SD card (just in the faster, more efficient /sd-ext/ partition that's mapped to /data/).
the apps twitter and facebook came with the rom and are installed under system app, can not be removed with market, nor settings>manage apps. many roms nowadays come with those so you can either remove them from the rom before download or remove them after via adb, terminal, tb, rootexplorer, or whatever means.
you do not need to unistall updates before you uninstall apps, even system apps, you just need to uninstall them diffrently than just settings>manage apps>uninstall
that will only work for apps stored in /data

So I'm trying to get rid of my bloatware.
I'm doing this in TWRP by mounting System, then going into File Manager > System > App
Selecting folder and deleting it.
I'm nearly there but can't find the folders for the following:
Car
FM Radio
Internet
Polaris Office 5

I realise that owing to S-On TB will not permanently remove apps.
It does however inform me of the path to these apps, which were hiding in: sys/priv-apps/
How to remove app? all tools in google play do not work.
(TWRP, SuperSU, S-ON, Bootloader unlock ... I have)

there's no need for you to delete anything, just grab SD Maid (root) at the store and freeze all those apps you don't need at the drawer. that way you keep the aesthetic and the stable.
