[Q] Best smartphone for application that use ftdi drivers - Windows Mobile Software Development

Hello.
I'm trying to make system that use zigbee module connected to the smarthphone/PDA through USB port. I was working till now with HTC Advantage 700, but it was problematic in many ways. Now I'm looking for new smartphone which could fulfil following requirements:
OS: windows mobile
USB host controller
possibility to power up external device (zigbee module)
compatible with ftdi drivers
I was searching a little bit and my best candidate is Toshiba TG01. What do you think?
I'm trying to run the application that I wrote in Java. On PC it works perfectly but when I'm trying to run on HTC with Mysaifu JVM I have always following error:
"Error loading win32com: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Native library `win32com' not found (as file `win32com') in gnu.classpath.boot.library.path and java.library.path"
Naturally I placed the win32com.dll in "bin" folder. I don't know what can be wrong. Any ideas?

Windows Sideshow

When I try to install Windows Sideshow I get the following errors:
1. A problem has occurred with tmarshaller.exe
2. A problem has occurred with shell32.exe
When I click these errors away the installation is finished, but then my device doesn't respond to anything.
After a soft reset I can start Sideshow, but even when the device has a bluetooth connection with my computer it gives the following message:
"Make sure that this device is paired with the PC over Bluetooth and that the PC is turned onn and within range.
If this problem persists, wait a few minutes and try again."
When I remove the application and reinstall it again I get the same problems.
Anyone know what I can do to make it work?
Using Windows Sideshow on Xperia X1
Hi, I can't help with the error codes but I have successfully loaded Windows Sideshow onto my Xperia X1 and can see information from my Desktop PC.
Background info:
PC Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Xperia Operating System: Energy ROM based on WM 6.5.3
The steps I took were to install my USB Bluetooth adapter but install using the Standard Bluetooth stack drivers that are built into Windows 7, create a Pairing between my X1 and PC so i never need to input a code when transferring data.
I then installed the Windowssideshowforwindowsmobile.cab and .NetCF V2.cab to my X1 (Install to Device and not storage card)
then go to control panel on your PC and under Devices you should see your Phone/PDA listed - access the settings option by right clicking and go to the 'Services' tab, select all Bluetooth services by putting a Tick into the box.
I had options for Activsync over bluetooth and windows sideshow.
then on your Phone/PDA start the Sideshow app and select connect.
to add new apps/gadgets to your device go to Control panel/windows sideshow.
Hope this Helps.

and remember Windows Sideshow is only available on Windows Vista / Windows 7

@OP, try doing hard reset
Another note
Another note to take into account is that Windows Sideshow will not work if your PC / Laptop etc is using Toshiba Bluetooth drivers.

[Q] Does anyone have a good method for turning an install shield file into a .cab?

Does anyone have a good reliable means of turning a 32-bit Windows setup.exe based installer system into a .cab that is usable with WinMo? I do know I'm gonna have to either write in either .XML and include the subfiles in the cab or find a converter. I have a work program that would valuable on the TP2 (diagnostic code translator), but it was written only for PC machines.
I'm trying to cut the cord as much as possible since I don't have immediate access to my work laptop.

[SOLVED] USB Tethering - Missing RNDIS Driver

Problem: I'm trying to USB tether my phone using a Wi-Fi connection (3G is not available atm). I connect my phone to my PC. I go into menu -> settings -> Wireless & network settings -> tethering & portable hotspot, and check USB tethering. Device manager says an RNDIS driver is missing.
Setup: Rooted (using unRevoked) HTC Incredible running CyanogenMod 7.03, not overclocked atm. USB debugging is enabled. I am running Windows 7 64-bit on my PC. Everything is running smoothly.
What I've tried:
I've searched everywhere and cannot find this driver. Of course, Windows 7 cannot find it online.
I can't install ActiveSync because I am running Windows 7.
I've installed Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1, but it still can't find the driver.
The Google OEM USB drivers out of the Android SDK don't work.
Without HTC Sync installed, I simply do not have the RNDIS driver. With HTC sync installed, this is what happens: The RNDIS driver gets installed, but when I check the USB tethering box on my phone, it goes on for a second, and then immediately goes off again.
Please help, this is one of the most frustrating problems I've ever dealt with, and it seems to be a simple driver issue.

Thank you for the Thanks. haha. =oD
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for this and posting the fix
Just to save some people some heavy head scratching: If you get error 10 for the RNDIS device in the device manager and USB-tethering does not work, disable USB-debugging for the time being.

Tethering With XP-64 Pro And Remote NDIS Install
It took me about a day to figure this out and yes, some of us still use XP. (I use it for mechanical CAD work, because I can't afford to buy all new CAD proggies, which would be required, if I upgraded Windows.) Tethering now works great and I can even share the connection further using MS Internet sharing on XP, which provides the tethered Internet to machines on my wired network and wifi router without having to connect them to my Moto G4 Plus. This means I can also place whatever firewall I choose in the path and extend the wifi range (my Netgear wifi signal is more powerful than my Moto G4 Plus).
I tried two .inf files. The only one that worked was produced by cutting and pasting to an .inf file from here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/network/remote-ndis-inf-template#rndis-inf-template-for-ndis-60-windows-7-and-later
Then I had to explicitly add my Moto G4 Plus ID, as described here (remembering to enable USB tethering on my Moto G4 phone AFTER plugging it into my Windows computer):
http://karceh.blogspot.com/2012/05/how-to-usb-tether-android-phones-with.html
The rest of the install was nearly as described here in this xda-dev thread. Browse directly to the .inf file when given the chance to select the driver.
Here is my .inf file with my Moto G4 ID (you'll need to replace it with your phone's ID in the right spot, of course). Search for "Moto G4" to see where I placed my G4's ID:

; This INF will work with Windows XP, Windows XP SP1,

[Q] How do I prepare MTK65xx device for custom ROM?

Hello.
I have an MT6577 Chinese clone phone.
* Model GT-i9300 (alps I think) / Android 4.1.1 / Kernel v: 3.0.13
* Device has been rooted and "ROM Manager" installed.
* On an old Win XP 32bit Laptop, I installed: PdaNet USB driver, MTKDroidTools-2.5.3, sp_flash_tool-v3-1312 (v5 does not work).
MY QUESTIONS:
* BOOTLOADER: I wish to unlock and backup the bootloader. adb-fasboot does not work. I have found many tutorials, but mostly for more severe problems. My device is not bricked, so I imagine there should be a simple method to this. How can I unlock / backup bootloader?
* Are there any other steps I should take as preparation to flashing a custom ROM?
* Is there any way to check whether irreplaceable software (like bootloader) has been infected with malware or not (considering the rooting process)?
* Is it possible to load a kernel to device memory without flashing it? Many SOC devices (not phones) can load the ROM through tftp, which allows testing without flashing. If the kernel or other part has errors and the device locks-up, all you have to do is reboot and the device boots normally into old kernel. Does ADB do this?
* On linux, you can get full hardware output with commands like lsof. I have come across several methods to do this. What can you suggest for a complete hardware listing on the device?
* I use BSD/linux and I'm very comfortable with both. However, I don't have a grasp on Android-specific things like "scatter file" and the partitioning scheme. I therefore may not understand some of your "Androidspeak" if you can bear with me.
Thanks for your time.
PS: Forum server is very slow and it took forever to login. I am unable to view forum threads as well because of extremely slow server response. Other sites display at normal speed when this is having transfer problems.
General USB driver install guide for MT65xx devices MTK Droid & SP Flash tools
Here is a general driver install guide for any non-mainstream MT65xx device for those who may have problems communicating with your device. It has been tested and works with both of the following tools and including the Google SDK "adb" and "flashboot" facility. It's a little long in the guide department but I have duplicated using it on several systems and it always works. So maybe it will help you. The guild takes you through installing both a working “MediaTek PreLoader USB VCOM Port” and customizing the Google SDK USB driver file “android_winusb.inf” to support your non-mainstream MT65xx phone with the tools MTK Droid Tools and Smart Phone (SP) Flash Tools. as well as ADB and FlashBoot and including support for powered off phone communicating via COM port to SP Flash tool. Enjoy!
Eratta:
- you will NEED to use a version of MTK Droid Tools earlier than V2.5.3 if you want a backup copy of your phone which includes the user data and memory cache.

Windows 10 on Surface RT : additional apps + WPF support

Thanks to the help of this forum, I have successfully installed Windows 10 on my Tablet Surface RT 1.
I was wondering 1) if there were additional applications to install somewhere else than the store and 2) how to get support of WPF (which appears not to be the case by default).
Below some of my findings.
Installation of recompiled applications
On page https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2092348, GoodDayToDie did the great job of collecting several apps recompiled for Windows RT (work done between 2013 and 2015). I tried Notepad++, but I encountered a "missing DLL" error.
I solved this issue by installing vcredist_arm.exe from https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=30679
It contains the C libraries used by the cross-compilation process. I have made Notepad++ and prboom (a Doom equivalent) to work. Qupzilla (browser) also technically works but does not support https, so makes it pretty useless.
Support of WPF
The Windows 10 ARM version apparently does not support WPF. I tried the procedure described on page https://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-8-rt/rt-development/wpf-windows-rt-devices-t3763345 and it worked !
Thanks a lot @black_blob !
Some tips:
* The 7z file containing the DLLs and the instructions is in the "downloads" tab of the page
* Just follow the instructions located in the "notes.txt" file. There was no file already existing on the Windows 10 ARM version when I did the copy of the files.
* I have disabled hardware acceleration as described in the instructions, because the forms of my test application were blank.
=> I had to take ownership of the Avalon.Graphics Registry node, and to give the rights to my account before being able to add the DisableHWAcceleration registry key.
You can now write C# WPF applications targeting .NET 4.5, they will work (unless you use unsupported references) !
As an example, have a look on the image attached. It shows sample apps from https://github.com/microsoft/InteractiveDataDisplay.WPF. I just compiled the code on a standard PC and then moved and run the binaries on the tablet.
Hi. I need help on disabling secure boot. i tried downgrading it ti 8.0, i managed to unlock bitlocker but still I cant disable secureboot. the secureboot file only shows F3 options. is there any fix into this? thanks
I tried this 3 months ago but I realized not all compiled programs for WPF work, but it's still great.
