[FIX] Capacitive buttons, keylayout, and CAPITALIZED Scandis! - G2 and Desire Z Android Development

Hey everyone!
Didn't find thread anywhere about this (just a lot of mentions in other threads).
Problem is:
Any exotic DZ (Asian and Scandinavian reported) does not work properly without Sense.
Capacitive buttons vibrate normally when pressed but no action whatsoever. (not in the apps neither in launcher).
ROM's reported to have this problem (as far as I know):
HTC Vision stock (by Modaco) (I can confirm)
CM RC 6.1
And generally speaking any ROM without sense.
Could we gather all these problems here, with mention what version of DZ and which ROM?
Also if someone knows a way to get them working it would be appreciated to post it here so everyone would know.
UPDATE:
with more research I found this in VillainROM topic:
redglasses designed some help:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z13DE4QE
(link contains update-vision-keypad-for-desirez.zip)
LINK to the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9353194#post9353194
(says that it is designed to work with CM)
Any one know more, does this work with any ROM?
UPDATE1:
The update-vision-keypad-for-desirez-signed.zip is compatible with any ROM! (thanks to redglasse for it)
This came to be pretty obvious after opening it and checking what it does
So just flash it after your new rom.
UPDATE2:
It really does not have anything to do with Sense. Only that the right keymap and keychar files are only shipped in roms with Sense!
(Asia and special European countries get only Sense versions)
Link to files pulled from Finnish (Scandinavian keymap) DZ:
DO NOT FLASH THE FILE BELOW, IT IS NOT IN FLASHABLE FORMAT!
http://www.filedropper.com/keyfilesfromscandidz
(I think that Redglasses is missing some keymaps, so every one of them is in the link above)
UPDATE 3
Seems to me that there is still problem that special Scandinavian characters type as CAPITALIZED every time. Is there any one out there that has some knowledge about them?
With Hexedit I can't locate the chars at keychar files. But in keylayout files they are named as func_number. So I presume that even when they are binded as some special characters they still work via some functions? Could anyone look into this or have some knowledge where those functions are?
UPDATE 4
Hey all!
HOW TO FIX YOUR CAP BUTTONS AND KEYLAYOUTS + CAPITALIZED SCANDIS!!!
In theory should work in every ROM.
1. Perform NANDROID backup! (I'm not responsible for any damaged devices etc blah blah...)
2. Download this fix from redglasses http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z13DE4QE
3. Apply it from clockwork recovery
4. If you have capitalized Scandinavian keys!!! Download this file modded by me:
http://www.filedropper.com/vision-keypad-norkcm
5. Connect your device with usb debugging on
6. type this to cmd prompt:
Code:
adb remount
adb push \(PATH TO DOWNLOADED FILE HERE) /system/usr/keychars/vision-keypad-nor.kcm.bin
7. reboot your device to remount system as it should be
8. profit
Thanks to Redglasses for the original fix, I would appreciate if someone backed my fixed vision-keypad-nor.kcm.bin into his update.zip
****LINK FIXED!

If the buttons vibrate, they are being picked up.
Can you do an 'adb logcat' and show what it says.
This should help the devs. And give me something to read.
All you need to do is plug your phone in, open a command prompt (have adb working) and type 'adb logcat'. Press a button, wait for a reaction and press CTRL-C (on the PC). Copy / Paste the log into a post. The shorter the better.
EDIT - that zip could be flashed on any ROM. Make a nandroid first though.

I guess that there is no need for logcat. Just that the roms missed the files in ZIP. Keymap and Keychar files in fact. I could post all of them somewhere (zip seemed to miss one or two keymaps).
This is just a bit specific issue, to my knowledge this is 2nd QWERTY Android phone getting worldwide attention, so community is not aware of the fact that all the roms need bit of a "compatibility" to include every phone.
So I got it working with that ZIP and G2 rom. (almost)
I just left wondering when the device chooses the keymap and keychar to use? Is it on the first boot up after the flash or every boot up? So if I make any changes are they applied in every boot up?
Anyways these should be bakes in to ROMS.
And why I said that it works almost is that my Å Ö Ä buttons always type with CAPITALS. No matter if i press shift or no. And I still can chose the special letters from a or o with long press and touchscreen. So is it problem with these files or somewhere else?
I'll upload my own files pushed from Scandinavian DZ when I find some free host
So in this link U can find the files pulled from my own DZ sense rom before any hassle:

I only have this problem when I run Cyanogenmod. LauncherPro+ works nicely on Sense ROMs. I'm guessing it's some keyboard layout thing that is different.

As I stated in the update it is due the versions of the roms, not really the sense itself. (the ROMs that include every keymap also include Sense )

Well, I'm guessing (aka not sure) that taking the Scandinavian/UK keymap files and using them in the ROM would solve it.

Instead of Scandinavian/UK just put every one of the files. They are 1Kb each and in total like 22Kb. See previous posts for a link to d/l my files
Yeah, seems to me that would be the case. (I'm almost 100% sure about that) Just make everyone use them!!!!
And make a guide/wiki article or something to be found via google by noobs like me

i flashed Modaco Stock Rom from G2 on my danish Desire Z and then flashed the keyfilesscandz file but where can i set the keymap ? it doesnt seem to work for me. i tried under settings > language and keyboard > Device keyboard but i couldnt choose any layout.. every time i have to go back in the settings ill need to reboot the phone :S

Okay i got i working by installing the first zip..

Yeah, the second zip is no flash, I'll make a point to it at first post.
I just took them out because redglasses zip seemed to miss some so if ayone wanted to push my files into same zip.
Btw is there anyone out here who could help / knew why all the special chars in Scandinavian keyboard are capitalized?

I tried flashing this with CM7 build6, yet my buttons do not work even after doing this. This is on Gingerbread. Should I try flashing again?

Same problem as you ilifin. Flashed, but when pushing the capacative buttons the phone doesnt even vibrate.

All works for me if I mount /system in clockwork recovery before installing this patch. Some kind guy told that in one of parallel threads

Mounting /system in recovery before patching solved it. Thanks a bunch!

Does someone still have the fix as a zip? The megaupload no longer works and I desperately need it. Pretty Please?

I posted a virgin, generic nandroid backup and instructions on how to restore it here:

Enjoy!
P
other than the obvious benefits of doiing this will it also remove the t-mobile splashes?
Well, this version seems more stable than the stock Orange rom....
for example, when in the compose sms section, when typing someones name in...rather than doing "correction" style numbers, it actually has a drop-down list with names and numbers.
Seems faster, overall, and nice to have standard set of bookmarks!
Will report more in due course.

hi
done everything as you say but after
adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img

My Orange Hero does and has always done that.
Paul, any chance of a real dummies guide in how to do this please ? Why the need to download your archive and also the patched one ? Or am I missing something ?? Sorry all this hacking is very new - with Nokia you just change the product code to allow you to update to the latest firmware.
At the time of an HTC update for the Hero, I can guarantee Orange will take weeks and months and more likely never approve the update... and to have these bug fixes would be essential to ensuring continued please with my Hero.
All done don't no if its in my head but it now seem more responsive compared to the Orange flavour.
Thanks Paul
Hmm I got this nandroid working but I could root / access as superuser on my hero anymore, and re-rooting it doesn't work. Any idea?
edit - Sorry, it was my fault, forgot to enable USB debugging after the flash, silly me!.

I'm glad you mentioned it... I have noticed a difference too.. I have also noticed a longer battery life... I have disabled 3g and have removed BBC widget and am using my phone as normal now (not using it every 2 mins cos I love the phone!!!)

Swype files for XXJPK (swedish input)

(To Forum Admins: I've posted the very same thing this morning but it disappeared -- presumbably because of the DB crash. Sorry if this wasn't the case and/or this was better placed in the General Forum)
Hello all,
I need a bit of help
I've flashed and rooted the XXJPK as in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790686
The problem I have is that after I rooted the phone I've done a not-so-smart thing
Without even thinking I replaced the "/system/app/Swype.apk" and "/system/lib/libSwypeCore.so" with the multi-language files from JP1 (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7412595&postcount=73)
To my unpleasant surprise now Swype crashes
Goes without saying that -- in good old hacking tradition -- I didn't backup the original files first
So, the cry for help is:
1) Can some kind soul post the original (above two) Swype files in the XXJPK so at least I have a functioning Swype (even if it doesn't have the swedish language....)
2) Even better -- if a fellow swede (or scandinavian... ) that managed to get the swedish input in Swype in XXJPK, can you please post the files (apk / library) you are using ?
Thanks a bunch in advance for the help !!!
Moving on....
I've managed to find a Swype WVGA version with support for the swedish language (google: Swype WVGA svenska)
I removed the previous existing Swype-relevant files:
/system/app/Swype.apk
/system/app/Swype.opex
/system/lib/libSwypeCore.so
After a reboot I managed to installed the .apk version above.
The showstopper now is that I cannot switch to this input method: When I hold on a text entry field and selecting "Input Method" only "Samsung Keyboard" shows up (but no Swype)
Any input ?
(And applogies to the forum admins as this become off-topic for ROM development -- however, the fact that "Swype" is missing from "input method" should be vaguley relevant . Thanks for understanding)

I use the the JP1 file. You find the link to download on Swedroid. Its in the Galaxy S forum. Some thread about Q&A. Good Luck
It worked for me with JPK several times
I found the answer in the mean time (posting here for the record):
Under: Settings -> Locale and text activate Swype; change the settings as desired (language, etc).
Switch to Swype via the "Input Method" radio button selection when inputing text (tap and hold on a text input box).
Hope this will help others as well
Well this guy, DocRambone, most surdenly knows how to do it. Cause he did in his modded ROM, the superlite version. I just checked Swype settings again and it has swedish, danish, norway, uk, us etc. - all the languages are there.
Try out his ROM - so far it's working really perfect

Gruessle -> Kaiser Froyo Rom

06/16/2011
The screenshots are not important. This is not a theme!
You can install a theme from here, for example if you like.
The theme it comes with is the:
Go Louncher Classical Theme (The new version of it)
The software installed is also not important, because you can remove it.
Google Market is installed, and you can install what ever you like, just like on your computer.
https://market.android.com
This is the actual Android Froyo operating system for the HTC Kaiser
So, stop asking me for screenshots and software installed, it's not relevant.
And the how to install guide is been posted here
Bug reports are welcome, other then that, I don't wont to hear from you.
Don't post a thank you either, there is a bottom for that, and you can also vote on the poll up there, but install and test it first!
Again Bug reports only, please!
I been working on this for 3 days straight, and figure I'll share what I got.
Everything seems to be working, except the camera is blurry, but that seams to be the norm.
Included is the rom, radio and kernel
ROM: 2.2.1
Kernel: 2.6.25
Radio: KAISER 1.70.19.09
Panel: 2
Key Map: US Normal
Resolution: 240x320

Most everything is installed in userspace and can be uninstalled or upgraded.
Oh got GO Launcher EX installed (Also in user space)

That sounds like a trick question.
Yes, at first I compiled everything my self but then to resolve bugs, I looked at other systems and basically stole stuff from them to fix my bugs. In other words, I can't take all the credit, it was a community effort.

Anyone else having trouble getting the kernel to install?
I get to 33% and the phone reboots...
Radio installed fine even though I was already using 1.70.19.09, just to be sure I installed everything in the package.
Installed HardSPL 3.34 and a WinMo 6.1 rom (custom) to see whats wrong. Installed L1q1d's kernel and goes right in like it should.
Checked .NBH with NBHCreator and only found 1 thing wrong: kernel set to Eclair instead of Froyo. Changed to Froyo and saved, attempted reflash and still won't go in...
;(Losted);
I also tried to install this kernel but I can't. Flashing in hardspl after few second give folowing error:
00018003
Os Fail
Update Terminate
UPDATE Fail.
Changing parameters in atools not helping. Every another kernel is flashing without problems so it's not phone fault
Gruessle, thanks for your efforts! I want to try your rom but being a noob waiting for more comprehensive list of known errors before flashing it to my kaiser.
Ok, quick "bug report":
After working with the kernel pack multiple times I have come to the conclusion that there might be a bug in the actual kernel file itself, throwing a code back to HardSPL and RUU (how I install).
I first noticed a problem in that the kernel was originally set up for a Polaris and had no resolution set. The size of the file should be unimportant as Scoot's newer kernel is in the order of 3.2-3.3MB in size (with the RIL patch installed it gets even larger), this one is 3,099KB, and l1q1d's is almost always 3,092KB.
The second issue I noticed is with the Froyo package itself... It's split up into many files (open the package in 7zip and you'll see what I mean). Normally, the packer has the files all listed inside the .tgz file, this one has the files inside many other files.
I have thus not installed the system on either phone because (correct me if I'm wrong), the kernel contains the basic directories for where everything is installed, and if I were to try and install this package on say, l1q1d's kernel, the phone would most likely crash because the files would not be found, including /system.
If ANYONE wants to dig deeper into this problem, feel free to message me. Personally, I think we've about finished getting all we can from the Kaiser, and much respect goes out to those who have done all the work in the past, but there's always that glimmer of hope that someone will find a way to pack this into a working rom installable through RUU or HardSPL.
I have one last thing to say:
Gruessle, please do your homework BEFORE posting things like this. There are people out there who still depend on this phone to operate as it is their only phone. I Personally cannot afford to go spend $100-200 on a replacement phone if this one goes down (thats why I have 2 of them). If you post something that does not work on the platform that you say it will, please correct it or move it to the proper forum.
BTW, I call shenannegans on one of the 5-star votes... just sayin'.
Your kernel have fake ;/ . rom works great ;D
sorry for bad english;p

1) The kernel doesn't care where you place the files. Right now I use a debian system with Ferora and Gentoo in a chroot. Both work fine with the Debian kernel.
In other words, if you have a kernel that works for you then use that it should work with the rest of the installation.
2) I don't get what you mean with files are "split up into many files", I am just guessing but you must be extracting it wrong. Maybe it's a windows thing, I haven't used windows in 15 years so I wouldn't be able to help you with that.
3) I have included everything you need to duplicate what I got, which works for me, and it appears to work for others too. Now i don't use that phone much, and there might be bugs I am unaware of, but don't tell me it doesn't work at all, just because you can't get it to work.

barmalini, it appears that a few people have trouble installing the Kernel, but the ROM seams to work for everybody as far as I can tell.
According to my server records the files have been downloaded over 200 times and I have yet to hear a complain about the ROM.
So I would say try to install the Kernel, but if you can't still use the ROM with a Kernel that works for you.
If you have trouble installing from windows you can also try a live CD from debian or knoppix. I installed everything from a Debian system. (Knoppix is based on Debian)
If you don't know what a live CD is then go here for info:

PoXFreak,
you are not the only one having trouble, installing the ROM it appears.
I am wondering, are you also using Microsoft Windows to install the ROM?
If so can you try again with Linux, because it worked fine for me.
If you don't have Linux you can use a Live CD
Also if you can't get it to work, try the ROM with a Kernel that works for you.
Please report, I will check back.

[Q] xperia x1 abdroid rom on diamond

hey guys, i wanna know if it's possible to install this android rom on our diamond
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288765
it's an android rom for the x1...by using the cwm rcovery method available on the neopeek page..
i just wanna know if it's possible n have any of use tried it...~
thanks in advance...^_^
I'll try and let you know
hi
did you had time to try?
Hi RootShadowLT.
It works on my Touch Pro, but the screen is upside down but the movement and stylus are not.
I think they cooked in X1 drivers because the X1 hardware faces upside down in Android compared to the HTC devices..
I can't correct it. I tried to change startup.txt and kernel, but no succes.
Simply use libsurfaceflinger.so from a non x1 rom
Place it in /system/lib
Doesn't work. Already tried that. I managed to start another X1 rom with a normal screen doing the following actions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18498923&postcount=211
It might work on a Diamond too if you alter the startup.txt to a diamond version.
It might work on this X1 version too.

Now I have an x1,so all the ones i have are for x1,sorry can't help you..
hi guys.>~thanks for the reply..(n testing the rom itself HTC0017, honestly, i was surprised u tried it urself to make sure)
i'll try it for myself n see how it will play for me...
I tried version 4 and it worked.
1 Take npkboot-cwm19.zip and unzip in storage card\npkboot
2 Put attached kernel files in npkboot
4 Put ARCDroid GAPPS.zip + ARCDroid V4.zip in npkboot
3 modify my startup from Touch Pro to Diamond or copy your own working startup.txt and calibration file.
4 IMPORTANT: Delete line ro.sf.hwrotation=180 from build.prop (ARCDroid V4.zip:\system) to prevent upside down screen
5 Run Haret - volume down for CWM recovery - whipe data - install zip from SD - and follow install procedure from the ARCDROID thread.
issues:
Camera not working
Context menu not perfect
Sensedroid 8 from X1 thread works the same way.
Context menu and camera works fine with my Touch Pro.
For now only Wifi/wireless tether does not work with this rom.
THANKS~~!!!

[Tutorial] HEBREW on your Wildfire S

Hi,
I'm posting this here, mainly because it involves new ROM flashing.
I spent nearly a month "converting" my WFS..
So, I hope you'll find this helpful..
Follow the next steps:
1. First you have to unlock your bootloader
(Thanks to theq86 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432199)
2. Second install this stock ROM
RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_ARA_2.26.415.2_Radio_47.23e.35.30 38H_7.57.39.10M_release_262618_signed.exe - 158.5 MB
It's an Arabic ROM and it supports fully English.
The big advantage of this ROM is that it has "Right to Left" correction built in.
(Thanks to kasra_Qeshm. Original post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476701)
3. Next step is to install Hebrew keyboard. there are many options.. I personally prefer Keyboard from Android 2.3 (there's also a paid version)
And the Hebrew pack for it Here.
That's it!! You have Hebrew on your WFS!!
Some more goodies:
1. You might want to root you WFS - One Root is an easy and great tool for this task.
(Thanks to rezo609 - Original post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678421)
2. "Bubble like" WildChild Messages app - This one is an add-on the require your phone to be rooted in order to flash it. You can download Here.
(Thanks to Tigger31337. Original post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652973)
3. BEATS AUDIO
(Thanks to apherio. Original post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587286)
That's it for today.. Hope you'll enjoy!
One last thing.. I only gathered the information and made some tests to see it's all working.. but if you find some of this helpful I think it would be nice go to the original posts and press the "thanks" button..
Cheers!
Maoz.
great to see how it works.. I thought it required more than just flashing. Anyway it's goot that I've got the idea to use the Arabic Rom for our needs.
anyway now I just need to figure out how to add darktremor support so I can use this rom with A2SD GUI and not worry about memory.
btw, what is the memory usage that you see with this ROM?
After installation I had 119MB free internal memory
You might have a problem running the RUU*.exe file since the wildfire's CID is not compatible.
I've found that extracting the boot.img and system.img from the rom.zip (found in window user's temp dir) and flashing manually is a good option as well:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
good luck.
if anyone comes across the VMOBILE's rom (i've seen one with full hebrew) please shout out.

I've got the vmobile rom. the problem is that it doesn't support A2SD and you ran out of space pretty quickly.
