Case for snowboarding - EVO 4G Accessories

I see lots of threads in here talking about the otterbox cases, but it doesn't look like they are waterproof/resistant. Does anyone know of a case that could be used for snowboarding? Doesn't have to be waterproof but provide some moisture protection and some crush protection.
Thanks

I use my seidio rugged case when i snowboard and keep it in my pants pocket, everything's fine...just don't fall. Alternatively, keeping it in the lower leg pockets would keep it out of danger even if you do happen to fall.

I use an otterbox commuter for daily abuse and while it's by no means meant to be water proof, the tight fitting rubber flaps do keep the Evos' various ports protected from light moisture.
Whenever I'm working someplace where I know I'll be using my phone in very wet conditions I'll just throw it in a ziploc snack sized baggie which it fits perfectly in. Cheap and effective protection without adding any extra bulk and it doesn't impair the touchscreen or speaker any.
I'm sure an Otterbox defender would provide superior impact resistance and do a pretty good job of keeping it dry if you've got the cash for it.

Sounds like you need the Ballistic case. Of course, they aren't available yet.

I thought about a baggie, but I'm using it mainly for music, so I need to get a cable out for that, and still have decent moisture protection.

BB has a case and headphones that are waterproof. People use them to swim with. There is an armband that you put the phone in and I'm not sure how the rest works, but it does seem to work well for the people using it.

I used a siedio active limited case in my chest pocket on a recent Colorado snowboarding trip. It was my first time out so I fell A LOT. Took it out a few times to use it, fell every way you could imagine, all was fine.
I dont think you need a crazy tough case. The little bit of water that might reach it (from your hands or gloves) wouldnt hurt it anyway. Assuming you have decent gear that isnt going to be wet.

I went boarding last weekend with my EVO. My Burton jacket has an inner pocket that fits the phone and also comes with a headphone jack that I connected to. Then I just used my old palm pre headset connected to the jacket's audio output and used the headset button to control mixzing. Everything worked great. There are plenty of jackets with "ipod input/controls" that you can look into.

I have a snowboarding pants and jacket (matching set) for anyone who is interested. I bought this last winter from REI. The website stated that I order 1 size bigger than what I would normally wear.....but it's just way too big on me.
It's very warm and is water and wind proof. I wore a t-shirt under the snowsuit in 10 degree weather and was very toasty. I figure there aren't too many snowboarders on this forum but I know there are quite a few ice fisherman.

I went to Copper Mountain a few weeks ago and boarded. No case on the phone. I just put it in the media pocket on my DC coat and it worked fine. Fell a few times but everytime I brought my phone out it was perfectly dry. Also, you usually protect your ribs and stuff when you fall so inner jacket pockets work good for phones and iPods and such.

Otterbox Defender Kickstand Disintegrated!

I've had my Otterbox Defender EVO case for a week now. I picked it up this morning and noticed the plastic kickstand in the back is broken in 4 places.
I have not dropped my EVO nor have I placed anything heavy on top of it. My only conclusion is that this kickstand is a VERY cheap, paper thin piece of plastic and basically disintegrated under normal use.
Now I get to sit on hold with Otterbox for 1/2 hour to try and get my money back. Disappointing as rest of the case is great.

I got the commuter and LOVE IT!!! Love it so much that I sacrifice my extended battery just to use it..
But why the defender.. Isn't it much thicker than the commuter??
Whats the big difference

Bought the Defender for the built-in screen protector. The kick-stand is a joke though. It is literally thin as a sheet of paper. Completely shattered. I have now been on hold for 15 minutes waiting to speak to Otterbox. Grrrr.
Will never buy from these people again.
Good news. I finally got through to Otterbox and they are refunding my money. Apparently the kickstand problem is a known issue and they've been getting some blowback on it.
Too bad. I liked the case otherwise.
Are they paying for the return postage or do you have to?

I don't have to return it at all. I am guessing this has been a HUGE problem and that is why they are being so nice - that or their profit margins are so huge on these things that they are better off just eating a few and maintaining good customer relations than making me return a defective product and having me tell all my friends that they suck.
Their case sucks (the kickstand anyway), but they did right by me.
I called yesterday with a problem of my plastic inner case not snapping closed completely, and they are sending me out a new case nc today...
Yeah, the kickstand is flimsy, but I dont agree its as "thin as a sheet of paper"..
their customer service is top notch, so far....
Yep, I looked at it today and noticed it was cracked so I went ahead and called and they are replacing it for me. I asked if there were any plans on revising it with a metal kickstand and she told me if they get enough complaints then they would but it would take another couple months to do. Great customer service, just wish they would have used metal in the first place.

They offered me a new one but I figured, what's the point? It will just break again. They credited back my money without even asking for the case back. I ordered the Impact which will provide protection but I can still use the EVO kickstand.
I just looked an my Defender again. Lord, that kickstand is destroyed. The weird part is that to this day, I still have no idea what happened to it. One day it was fine and the next day it was shattered. I never dropped it or dropped anything on it.
Who knows. Weird.
The overall case is excellent but the kickstand and the holster are complete disasters. The holster literally rattles when you wear it due to the VERY loose clip on the back. Also, as big as the Defender is, the holster seems two sizes again larger. You could carry a paperback novel in that thing.
Defender - odd mix of awesomeness and complete sucktitude.
Yeah this thing was/is a massive fail from the day one shipping issues to the case (and holster) itself. 8 days of prodding them to get mine and they finally shipped it Overnight. Screen protector giving me the oilslick look so I pulled it off, didn't need 2 anyway. The phone was way loose in the holster so I had to stick some felt pads in there. Today I took the phone & case out of my pocket to show it to somebody and the kick stand was cracked. I haven't even used it because I've been reading about all the broken ones. They had decided not to charge me for the case so I guess I can say it was worth the money.

That's the mysterious part in all this. No one seems to know WHY their kickstands are cracking. Like you, there was no event for me that cracked it. It is almost as if there is a fault in the plastic and it just cracked spontaneously?
I have a feeling that the problem is not in the thinness of the kickstand, but that somehow they got a run of VERY brittle plastic; however, when i pick up what remains of the kickstand and try to break it with my fingers it is very tough and won't break.
Odd.
So it seems that for some reason, the area where the kickstand attaches to the phone is VERY brittle whereas the main body of the kickstand is very tough.
Ah, I see the problem now...
The core of the kickstand on the reverse side is hollowed out. While the kickstand itself is thick and sturdy enough to handle the job, the middle has been shaved down to paper-thin. If there is any twisting of the kickstand at all (like it catches on your pocket fabric as you remove it) that twisting motion puts stress on the weakest part of the stand (the paper thin area between the pins that hold it to the case).
If they had just made the kickstand a solid piece of plastic none of us would even be having this conversation. Since the hollowing out of the kickstand adds nothing to it's functionality and makes it easy to break, one has to wonder why they made that design choice?

After reading what happened to you I won't even try to open the kickstand on mine. As far as the holster is concerned I solved the looseness by small pieces of transparent silicone tape in the inner four corners and it's a snug fit now.
I have done almost everything I could to break mine including bending it pretty good and everything is fine. Doesnt rattle at all and I have opened and closed it over 1000 times.

They sent me a new case and i received it Dec 24, order was placed just a few days earlier by a csr. Was told it had a redesigned kickstand but it is still very similar in design. It is slightly thicker but now has issues with staying locked in when not in use. Durability is tbd.
W t f just used my kickstand 1 time and it popped off.. and I can't get it back in to the slots

Question About the Otterbox Defender

I just purchased an Otterbox Defender for $31.95 on eBay (an excellent deal! ). I just wanted to see if the case makes the phone more difficult to use and if there are any problems that have arisen to anyone as a result of it.
I used the defender for a day and returned it. For one, i forgot how much of a non-fan i am of soft shells/cases.... since they seem to attract dust from other dimensions sometimes. The holster is nice... but in order to clip it in or take it out, it usually seemed to be a two-hand job, so that kinda defeated the purpose to me. It also seemed to make it slightly more difficult to actually get an accurate read with the fingerprint sensor.... i believe mostly due to the silicon outer shell, which as you swipe your finger, would peel back somewhat and make it hard to actually get a complete scan without stopping short or something like that.

I've used Defenders before with my Nexus One & HTC HD2, and loved them though they were very bulky, but I thought the extra protection was worth it (just in case). I Ask because the my Defender for my N1 had problems with the buttons and they weren't really responsive and dust always got in the screen from the hole for the trackball. Thanks for your feedback! I'm planning on painting the plastic shell either red or white since I've always envied the iPhones multitude of colors
I have had mine in a defender since day one. I used it without for about 1/2 a day then loaded it in. I own a construction company so i am out in the dirt and weather constantly so the otter box is almost a must. I haven't noticed any loss of functionality. It takes a few times to learn how to unsnap the latch with the knuckle of your index finger as you remove the phone with one hand but it works once you learn the motion. No problems whatsoever using the fingerprint unlock, it is a pretty cool feature. I did notice the screen was not as sensitive for about 5 minutes until the plastic cover built in the case settled down to it.
Jack
I have the defender on mine..no problems so far..yes it makes the phone a little bigger. Its the first time that I am using such a case.
I quickly figured out how to snap it in and out of the belt clip with one hand.
I also have mine in a Defender case - However i ripped out the built in screen protector in the Defender case - those things are lame... I have a screen protector i put on within 10 seconds of opening the box for the phone - my screen has never been touched since taken out of the box...
I have no issues with the Otterbox Defender Case or Holster whatsoever...
Not to hijack the thread but the Otterbox Commuter is an extremely solid case that gives excellent protection without the bulk or the soft exterior of the Defender. I used one on my iPhone 4 for the past 6 months and loved it. Waiting on that model to show up for the Atrix now.

This. I bought my Atrix along with some anti-glares and an Otterbox Defender. I quickly realized how worthless the Otterbox's built-in screen protector is (and how muddy it makes the screen look), and promptly ripped it out. I got used to carrying my Captivate in a Defender, so I was already used to the holstering/unholstering procedure. You do have to make sure not to rub your finger against the shell when using the fingerprint scanner, but it's a pretty easy technique to learn.
ive had quite a few of them there great for protection but forget using it with a dock

Can anyone tell me if the Atrix overheats in an otterbox?
I live near atlanta and it is like a tropical rainforest in the summertime. Humidity and heat off the charts, will my phone melt inside this thing?

It shouldn't. Personally, I think the Atrix runs a little cooler than the iPhones and both my parents have the defenders for their iPhones and neither of them have had any issues.

Otterbox Commuter vs Impact vs Bodyglove

I am trying to decide between one of these three cases but can't really decide which since most stores don't have them so I haven't had the chance to actually feel and see how they look on my phone. I'm not in an environment where I drop my phone a lot but I still need a little protection so I was wondering if I could get any recomendations
Sent from my Motorola Atrix using Tapatalk
do not get the impact
the fit is not good
i cannot comment on the commuter because the defender is the same price and i got the defender, and i like it alot
I've owned the incipio feather and just got the commuter in the mail a few minutes ago. I didn't like how fragile the feather was, so I opted for the commuter for better protection.
As far as fit, I'm pretty happy with it, although the silicone parts that cover the ear speaker and the bottom of the phone are a little floppy if you mess with them. The back of the case is a little slicker than I would like, but the silicone parts on the side give adequate grip. The volume buttons are actually easier to use with the case on than without a case, and the port covers seem great too.
I'd give it a 8/10 because the slickness of the plastic and floppy silicone subtract a bit from an otherwise excellent case.
Get the Commuter
I just got it the other day. It really seems to protect the phone quite well and fits snugly. Adds some bulk, but probably less than the impact.
Pros:
Excellent Phone Protection
Easy to install
Doesn't add too much bulk
Cons:
Rubber attracts lint
Included screen protector isn't figerprint / smudge resistant
Does add some bulk
Definately the Commuter.
I love mine!
I bought the Body Glove a couple weeks ago after finding out I can still use my car dock with it on. (Just barely.) I wanted it because my wife has had a Body Glove on her Captivate since July of last year and it's great. The bg for the atrix is styled a little differently but is just as good. Not too much added bulk either. The phone is a lot easier to hang onto now too.

- yes the rubber does attract foreign particles. however i think we all can agree that all electronics share that feature...
but you can just rinse it off while it dries your phone is still fully protected.
-screen protector is built into the shell. no squeegee's. NO bubbles. NO glare!
-fully enclosed and port plugs ( commuter has plugs )
-360 swivel belt clip.
personally i really enjoy this clip/case for its dual face design. you can have the screen facing out to monitor calls, msgs, etc. or you can have it face inward to prevent your screen's death due to evil table corners. there are notches to keep it from falling out.
and it wont. the clip has a curve bottom as well, to keep it from involuntary vehicle exit suicide. which is believed to be caused by occupants jumping in and out of there automobiles. but this has never been confirmed due to lack of witnesses.
-spring clip can be fully expanded and it will lock in place to easily attached or removed.
-belt catch is on the bottom so it won't slip. a.k.a. gypsy clip
- camera, phones jack, ports all have a poly carb gaurd that is flush with the rubber sleeve.
i ordered this thing 2 days before i did the phone on amazon prime so i figured surely i would have it first. Nope i actually had to sit on my hand for 2 days waiting for that case before i opened my phone. but i can say that my phone has never really experienced outside air.
i own the impact too. but i have never wanted to use it this is a great accessory. its worth 30 bucks i'd pay double that.
** if you are in any environment that you fear dust, dirt, abuse, water, kids, heat, beanie babies. this is the best protection offered. and it does add security to accidental loss for wearing it on your side. I will always buy these before my mobile gear everytime.
Do yourself a favor and save the time you will be spending if you get something else, then deciding that you don't like it, returning it, ordering what you should have ordered in the first place...... get the commuter case, it rocks balls!

Since you said you probably wont drop it and just want a little protection, I would go with the BodyGlove (if the Feather is not an option). Good grip, decent protection, and little added bulk.
I happen to have one for sale too

Comes with an insert for the std/media docks. From what I have seen the car dock would most likely still work fine.
I tried the Impact case for a week. It's not snug on the phone and has a tendency to slip off the bottom corners. The impact-absorbing aspect of the phone is excellent however. The thick silicone case can absorb shock quite well.
I returned it. I'm waiting on a Seidio Innocase. Was thinking about the Commuter, but I wanted something a bit thinner.
dam. i jsut bought the impact of amazon for 10 bucks. should oof bought a tpu case instead then.

Cyclops Case for vibrant from Trident. general review.

So fairly recently i purchased the Cyclops case from Trident after watching
bobofosho123 video review and figured i'd make a post about the case and raise awareness of a good case
The case overall is great. It added the bulk and safe to grasp feel to the phone, without the case I always feel like i'll crush it in my bear like grip
Ordered it in White, probably a mistake as the white took on a dirty color to it rather quickly. the white plastic on the back side feels soft and gentle. And the silicon outer ring is great for what it does. I've launched the phone outta my lap a few times getting out of my truck and everything is all stars and sparkles still (good).
Has the built in screen protector which I have not noticed to alter the touch sensitivity at all, (also great at protecting.) And just about 0 picture alteration. The protector also covers the light sensor... which i have noticed causes the phone to not recognize it's not near your face after a call is over.
-so i cut it out- and everything is swell again.
The power and volume buttons on the side work wonderfully with the silicon strip over them.
**Couple other downsides for me, might have been the molding on the silicon for my specific case, but the tabs to pull the plug out of the usb and headphone jack seemed almost non existent making it rather hard to open them up.
And the seperatly purchased holster has been out of stock forever. ((((EDIT)))) finally in stock and ordered
because of this I put the phone in my pocket and like most silicon and gel cases it collects pocket fuzzies of doom rather well.
the closeness of the bezel near the screen does make it hard to bring down the notification slide. ( but i use the swipe down gesture in ADW for that anyways.)
After having quite a few cases, the casemate you can get at the tmobile store, the gel cases, some plasticy snap ons, just a generic belt holster thing, otterboxes case. I will stick with the cyclops.
All in all worth every $$ it cost. I.M.O.
I have to say that I disagree, I originally purchased this case and I was disgusted by the quality.
In my experience the built in screen cover really took away a lot of screen sensitivity. I had to apply a lot more pressure to type any of the letters on the side of the screen, even using when using swype! So I ended up removing the built in screen protector, it was no big deal it popped out with a little pressure.
The next problem I had with this case was the headphone and micro usb port connectors, the phone already has a usb dust shield built in so why protect it? They were just too hard to remove and I use my vibrant daily to listen to music and to transport files between home and school so this was another annoyance.
I used the case for about two weeks before I could not stand the bulk and the cheap feel of this case, I swear the silicone would pop out of place every time I put it in my pocket.
After everything was said and done I went back to my body glove case and used it until it broke because I dropped my phone while riding my bike then I ordered up an otterbox and could not be happier. Best case for the vibrant in my opinion, slim, no frills and plenty of protection.
Don't buy one of these cases it is a waste of $30, trident cases are nothing but poorly designed bs.
I also have the Trident case and am.very happy with it. It provides wonderful protection for me. The only
Issue for me is that it is not pretty to look at lol I'm s girl lol. The black and grey.was the best looking out of the selection and goes quite well with the Trigger rom I love so much. I like the look of the Otterbox and may purchase one in the future. For ultimate protection I would recommend the Cyclops case. No issues with the screen protection at all.

Ran across this article reviewing the case. I'm more into the thinner cases but figured some of you would be into it. It costs $34.99 but of course you can always get them cheaper

I use the ballistic case and I love it. My first phone broke from a small fall. This one has fell onto my concrete steps with the ballistic case and it bounced and didn't damage at all. It is kinda clunky, but I like it, I don't have to feel like I am gonna break it just by using it now LOL.
I bought this case and I love it. For being as big as it is it goes in and out of my pocket easily.
Only issue with this case I have is pulling it in and out of pockets with the rubber corners it tends to catch a bit. Other then that its great
Great case! Will take heavy punishment without damaging the phone. The corners are so thick that the phone bounces on impact. Lol

Excellent case, got it at amazon for $24 and free shipping.
My E4GT feels great in my hand.
After getting the ET4G in early December I quickly realized I needed a durable case for the device and thanks to the folks here at XDA and at AC, I went with the Ballistic Shell Case
The drop video shows how durable it is:
I'm really happy with this case-- I run with it and use it at the gym without worry. When showing the ET4G to folks for the first time, when I take the case off it definitely adds to the Wow factor for them (as in "Wow its so thin!").
My first epic 4g, was dropped from my sweatshirt pocket out of my truck when I got out. I had that basketweave case with the stand option on the back of it from Sprint.
My phone cracked across the screen from the top right corner, through to the middle of the phone. I was standing when it fell, and I am only 5'3" tall. That case did nothing but pop off and fly under my car leaving my phone broken, and returned to sprint with insurance deductible.
I decided to buy the ballistic case when I got my new phone in the mail, and no problems at all. I am prone to drop things having ms, so this was particularly important for me to change.
The case is a bit bulky, however, I got used to it, just knowing my phone is protected. Only issue is getting it in and out of pockets but that is it. I also find the way it is built, makes me feel more secure holding my phone, maybe it's the rubber on the sides, I don't know. Flygrip should make that even better (thanks qbking77!)
Highly recommend this case to anyone!
