Android Tablet-Compatible Apps - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Themes and Apps

Hey everyone! I am interested in making a list of Android Tablet-Compatible Apps. Could you do me a favor and list the ones that you use that are compatible with your tablets? I'd really appreciate it!

to be honest it may be easier to compile a list of apps that dont seem to work with the archos tablets, most of the android apps that I have tried DO work.
So far, the only apps that I have tried that dont run are:
mini info widget
extended controls widget
I have almost 100 apps on my 101 by the way, and 90mb free.

I have had several mails back and forth with the developers of the extended controls widget, and they say they have found the bug that meant it wasn't working on Archos tablets ... and it should get fixed. When, is anyone's guess

where is the primary source for apps for the 101 - android market or via Archos?

I'm sure there's a couple other threads for this, but I thought one in the AT100/ Thrive section would be neat.
I will also keep adding to this original post.

There's many games as well such as the THD game's like Fruit Ninja THD, and games that look good on the big screen like Radiant. Also launcher's like LauncherPro are really neat on phones but just aren't that smooth or fast scrolling wise for tablets.
Hope these apps may make your experience with the Thrive a little more useful, they have for me since we've been getting quite honestly poor support here in Aus.
Btw I'm just looking at app's that aren't for rooted users since I know it's quite new on the Thrive/AT100 and I personally myself don't plan on rooting.

Use VTL Launcher at your own risk. If you check the WEB page, it says it is not compatible with Honeycomb. Some individuals on Toshiba Thrive Forum has reported ending up in a boot loop after installing this. Not all have had this issue. That is why I am saying to use this at you own risk.

Thanks for the info, will add to opening.
Someone on TF posted this site: http://tablified.com/
Ran across the beta of BeyondPod on there...might have to invest in this one.
I have been using it for some time on my Thrive. It did however, cause a boot loop when I set it as the default launcher. Otherwise (knock on wood), it is working fine.

I haven't had any issues with VTL myself, guess I'm just lucky. Btw, does anyone else have a home replacement that is smooth and just as functional on a tab?
I'm using TINYPLAYER for my mp3's.
Its a pure player.
No Art work or search controls. Shows music by file name from folder you set. I actually like it like that. Has shuffle repeat and random. Also another cool feature is font re-size.
But one problem with it don't know if other are having same problem. When using the app and you initiate the g sensor that would reorient the screen the player give error about cant find the SD card. I play music when I drive so this really erks me. Bumps are fine but soon as I turn I get the error. I store my music on the SD card about 10 gigs worth.
where can i get the penpower chinese writing pad that works with thrive??
My Spider Solitaire should work without problems on Thrive: https://market.android.com/details?id=magory.solitairespiderhd. It is designed for tablet screens (doesn't work on phones). I'm working on some improvements now (expect them next week). Am also working on another, more advanced game. Writing for Android is fun.

hey all, the not sure why it hasn't been said yet but adw ex works like it was made for the thrive. Very stylish seen transitions and I can't explain how fast it is (you need to try it yourself) it also allows you to use more of the screen unlike the stock. All widgets and are resizable, you can create as many or as little screens (I prefer to have received rather than the standard 5)

Thanks I'll be sure to check it out. I personally wonder how you have so many screens, I can barely fill 3 screens lol.
I installed Adw ex today after trying other stuff that wouldn't work and I really like it. Very smooth and adaptable. Im scared to try the other one, but I am sure they will update it to work with 3.1 soon.

Yeah, I haven't had any problems with the other one but I'm using ADW ex just 'cause it's smoother. But what bugs me is the little icon on the top left. My homescreen is generally black and white themed and the icon just sticks out so much lol.

I have a different tablet, but wanted to say I totally agree! You can disable it with the hide/show action bar widget, however it comes back with a 90° rotation (not 180). I've written anderweb, so hopefully this gets changed.

The new update replaced it with an App Drawer icon which doesn't stick out as much.
I made a game for tablets (works on phones too, but is best on tablets): Memory Owl HD (https://market.android.com/details?i...ry.memoryowlhd).
Also tablified.com has a great list.

Iconia A100 sucks at app compatibility

Downloaded an upgrade to Skype today, and included was a bunch of new devices, that got videocalling with the upgrade. Among others was the Iconia A500, but of course no A100. ARGHHH!!!
After a couple of weeks of owning the A100, I'm more than happy at the size and speed of this little tablet, but it's getting to be really tiresome, that most of the cool new games and apps I find in the Market aren't compatible with the A100
Even some TABLET APPS aren't compatible.
And this is just the apps openly state they aren't compatible. With some of them, you won't find out until you either open it, and a message tells you that your device isn't compatible, or it just plain crashes on you...
(To further the confusion, in some cases you can download a demo from Tegrazone, but when you try to buy the full game after happily playing the demo, Android Market tells you, that the game isn't compatible with your device.... WTF?!?!)
Who's fault is this exactly? Is it Google that messed up? The developers that are just plain lazy? Or is Acer somehow to blame?
(I noticed that most apps report my screen in the A100 as being 600*976 pixels. Is this somehow the problem for at least some of the uncompatible apps!?)
And more importantly, what can I as a user do? Shoot off some friendly emails to developers? Or can a root or somekind of hack help solve the problem?
Opinions, suggestions?
Video still isn't working on Skype for the A500, so you're not missing much!

Errr, yes it is (on A500/A501)! If you took 10 seconds to search you'll find in the skype parameters the possibility to turn on video (it isn't by default) and it works, I've just spent an hour on skype video, you can choose which camera you want to use, everything works perfectly. Sorry for being off topic but I just wanted to clarify what the person above me said...

Those options do not exist in HC 3.2 on the A500.
In mine stock 3.2 non root exist. Is in settings at the skype application. But you need the last skype update. I just finished a video conference right now and it worked great. Try again.
Alright, on 3.2 Rooted, but the rom that has all the bloatware and everything pretty much intact Skype does not do video calls or show ANY of the video options in the settings.
I reverted back to a backup of 3.1, and the app DOES do video call, and show the video call settings.
I don't know what your doing Kekinash, but you've got a magical tablet.
That's weird, my A501 on 3.01 stock rom with root is compatible with skype video calls.

Be patient
Unfortunately the 7" and 8.9" sizes are 'new territory' for HC apps. Devs worked to get apps compatible with/to 10" screens and the associated resolutions that run on that size primarily for their tablet-only applications. In the same way devs for phone (1.5-2.3) apps have been working to make their apps scale up for tablet use, I'm sure HC-only app devs are working quickly to make their apps scale to smaller tablet screen sizes and those new resolutions. Even if the resolutions are already supported, afaik there's an issue in 3.2 causing them to crash when paired with 7" screens either way.
So when I say be patient, I mean hold out a bit longer and I'm sure things will be up to spec. On one hand you'll have the quicker devs fixing their apps to work well with smaller screens/different tablet resolutions and worse case scenario, you know it's all coming together anyway for ICS and at that point, everything SHOULD work.
Edit:
And friendly emails to devs let me tell you, do tend to get the job done. Especially when the app is popular. I use Getglue and was frustrated that it wasn't after quite a long time, not changed to be compatible with 3.0.1. I wrote a friendly email to the dev. asking for a Getglue for Tablets because I really loved the app and I sit with my tablet beside me more so than my phone now at home, etc. etc. and I got a response from my team saying that the app was unfortunately no longer compatible, but to use the mobile site. This was in July. Then roughly a few weeks or so later, voila! Fix'd. So it never hurts to let them know what's up.
most apps work in my stock A100
So far I have had no problems with the apps I use and have downloaded or even pay for. Skype now does video calls perfectly, the only app that was crashing a lot was a spell checker tha I did uninstall and replaced with an other one that has no problems.
Just checked, and the video options DID turn on in Skype.
Along with a little warning that it might not be supported, blah blah...
So I got to use the front camera for the first time today
Dunno if it's just me but it seems not all the apps I could/can see on my A500 appear on my A100. Same gmail account. For a while I couldn't find Facebook on the market.
Yeah, there would be a lot of apps for the A500 that aren't compatible with the A100 I can imagine.
Best way to check, is to go in to the www version of the market, then you can see all apps, no matter if theyre compatible or not. If you have several devices, the www market tells you which one of your devices an app is compatible with. I wish there was a similar feature in the market app.
BUT! On the bright side, I DID get around to rooting my A100... You think that might make a difference in regards to apps? Is there some kind of workaround available now that its rooted?
I just activated cam on my A100 and it is working fine.
?? Does Skype update automatically???

my Wife has the Iconia Tab 7" and when she gets incompatibility issues, all I do is side load the app. example, American Express app says its not compatible with her device. I just copied it from one of my Android devices and Bluetooth it to her, she installs it and it works 100%
sometimes the market place is just wrong. when I want an app even though the market says NO, I find the .apk from somewhere and install it. on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 Gameloft says their game Lets Golf 3 doesn't work....BS, Ive been playing this game for a month now with ZERO issues.

(Q) Pros / cons changing dpi?

Just curious of the benifits of changing dpi settings.
I've seen various posts in various rom threads and was curious....
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Pros: Bigger screen - can have more apps on homescreen, make your phone look like a tablet with TabletUI mod, etc.
Cons: Not all apps are compatible and some people (like me) just don't like it
Basically, the only con that I have run into is that the Play Store checks your dpi in order to determine what apps are or aren't able to run on your device. Tablets, for the most part, don't have as many apps available as phones from the Play Store. Another issue, however, is that common apps such as Gmail, Maps, Facebook, etc. seem to be incompatible as well even though they are available to tablets.
Like stated above, the app store will say a lot of programs are not compatible because you changed your dpi. There are fixes for this, however.

Chameleon Home Screen APP

Anyone hear about this app? I read on another forum it works with Nexus7 now. What are your thoughts?
It hasn't been released yet. It looks good i would def but it ones is out.
I'm thinking about preordering it. It looks too boss!
If the pre-order would give me an apk after my payment I'm in.
Preorder gives out early access to the app, which is n august. It will officially launch at play store n sept
Thanks guys...yeah looks like I'll think about it when it does come out. Got too many other things to worry about when my Nexus 7 arrives tomorrow!
I'm definitely going to be looking at this when it comes out. I'm looking to use my $25 play store money on tablet apps and might have to save some for when this gets released
Yeah same...don't see any other must have apps that can't be downloaded.

Before you ask yes I have used it I have been trying it for two days now. Chameleon is not worth your time or money and despite the intention of the creators is NOTE deeply customizable. What it is is a series of widgets on a a couple of nice looking backgrounds. That's it in it's entirety. You have very little control over where you place the widgets (there is a strict grid pattern to use) or how much you can resize them (according to this grid pattern) and when you resize them smaller these widget they lose a lot of info (ie what they display). Only widgets desgined by Chameleon can be used and right now there are only 5 (twitter, gmail, facebook, instagram, and news...with very limited sources), so forget about using any widgets from your favorite apps unless chameleon deigns to create one in the future. These widgets also have limited functionality and you have no control over that limited functionality. Say you want to manually set your location on a weather app, or set your facebook app to update manually or perhaps every two hours instead of one. You are out of luck, it's chameleons way or the highway. Want an app (not a widget) on your desktop, well you can but only along the bottom edge of the screen and only five. Have multiple gmail accounts and would like notifications for each one better be prepared to have multiple large widgets taking up screen real estate or your out of luck. As for the supposed context wonderfeature, it's been tried before. Do you really want to have to jump through extra hoops to do something because it is a certain time of day or you are logged on to a certain network, if you like those extra steps then this is for you, if you like everything ready to go at your finger tips when and where you want it then this is best left alone. For crying out loud hitting the home button at the bottom of your screen doesn't even take you to your homescreen. This home screen replacement has limited functionality, so unless twitter, facebook, and instagram updates are your entire world (and even then there are better widgets included with other apps) this app will not be worth even 15 minutes (the refund window) of your time. If you have broader interests, and need something that you can set up exactly how you want it, to be useful for work and play AVOID THIS HOMESCREEN.

They are however going to (have already?) release an SDK that allows developers to develop their own widgets so hopefully you won't be stuck with just the ones they provide. Whether this actually takes off is another matter. I might well buy it myself to try it out but at $10, and, currently, a limited widget selection, can't see it really flying off the shelves myself.
Yeah. I can't believe anyone funded this. What a joke.
Easily done with minimal effort on existing, free software.
I searched for a Chameleon thread in all the Nexus 7 forums and didn't see one, or I wouldn't have created a new thread. However I made a video for anyone interested to see it working.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUI2oPNqBW4&hd=1
But as everyone else is saying, its very limited, and after using it for over a day I am getting bugs and the out of the 5 widgets I have 3 broke and I had to recreate it to make it work again.
They had a concept video that looked very promising and one of the reasons why I wanted to support. Wireless Media streaming while still being able to use your tablet for other things, separate user profiles, and a stylish looking UI that can evolve to what you need. You can see that here: http://youtu.be/eWZ7guxro2g
So many flaws with your statements I have quoted.

1) Apex, Nova, GoLauncher, LauncherPro, etc. all force you to use a "grid" for your widgets. This isn't a flaw with Chameleon, it's called Android. YOu can have a widget take up th whole screen or just one single square. f course, most the widgets will be useless taking up just one square, but that's the case for most widgets unless the app maker made a 1x1 specific idget. Great thing with Chameleon though is that the widgets adapt to what size you make them. THe overwhelming majority of widgets you use on Apex or any other launcher don't unless the appmaker designed multiple size widgets.
Only widgets desgined by Chameleon can be used and right now there are only 5 (twitter, gmail, facebook, instagram, and news...with very limited sources), so forget about using any widgets from your favorite apps unless chameleon deigns to create one in the future.

2) Right NOW the only widgets that are available are from Chameleon. It's a BETA. It's goin to ave limited functionality. They haven't released the API yet. Once they do that, which they will, anyone that can code HTML5 can create a widget for Chameleon. One will not have to know how to code for Android. Saying that the only widgets you'll ever get are from Chameleon is a 100% lie unless not another single sole on the face of the earth decides to make a widget.
These widgets also have limited functionality and you have no control over that limited functionality. Say you want to manually set your location on a weather app, or set your facebook app to update manually or perhaps every two hours instead of one. You are out of luck, it's chameleons way or the highway.

3) It's a beta. The app and the widgets are not finalized. Just because you can't edit it now doesn't mean you will never be able to. They have a very long list of things they still want to do with it. That's why it's called BETA.
Want an app (not a widget) on your desktop, well you can but only along the bottom edge of the screen and only five.

Partially false. You can have a lot more than five. THe bottom dock scrolls, you can put as many apps as you want in the dock.
Seriously, if you are going to come on here and criticize an app, at least learn a thing or two about it instead of spouting out a bunch of false and/or misleading statements.

Why is though that if I run Apex, Nova...etc. the majority of widgets in the play store work with these but wont with Chameleon? ..because they are written for Android and not html5? Now forgive as I dont know much about how it all works but are you saying that from now on anyone making an app and a widget for that app must build their widget to work with all standard launchers and then re-build it again to work with Chameleon seperately? How many app Devs are actually going to go through this much trouble? I'm starting to feel like I have been suckered out of 10 bucks for an app I will most likely never use now. I should have read the fine print because all I saw was a really cool looking launcher that I assumed ran all the current widgets like any other launcher.
look very nice
its not worth it tried it out myself big dissapointment. grab a couple nifty backgrounds and use the widgets out in andriod market and you can basically have same thing. what a joke this was.

Really? Do you know of an app that changes the theme/home screen your Nexus 7 based on the time of the day, or based on your location, etc.?
Update.
I received my registration and was able to install and test the Chameleon beta launcher. I have tested plenty of beta and even alpha ROMs and apps over the last few years and this is a first. Most betas of anything I have ever tested were buggy at times but you still got the feel and general idea for what the ROM or app was about. In fact a beta of anything generally has the look and functionality of the finished product with maybe still needing some bug fixes and tweaks here and there.
So how is this a first? Its the first time I have seen any Android developer take an idea and spend an hour to code into something that will at least boot or load and call it a beta. The crap I just tested isn't even an alpha!!! Honestly I don't even know what it was??? The only thing I can compare it to would be to take your home computer, uninstall windows 7 and then install one of the earliest version of windows from like 1992. Sadly I'm not even exaggerating a little bit. I'm confused!! This has to be some kind of joke or at least a scam. I still can't wrap my mind around what I saw other then I added 3 of the 5 or so silly widgets to the 3 ridiculous screens and didn't get much farther then that before the app crashed. The wallpaper has the resolution of a flip phone and was apparently made in windows paint using the paint brush tool. You do however have the option of changing the wallpaper to something exactly like it in a different color.
This has to be a scam. I'm worried because they make you authenticate using your Google credentials, password and all through their app. If you haven't spent the 5 or 10 on this yet then nows your chance to run from this as fast as you can. I'm not so worried about the 10 bucks I lost as much as I'm about what it was I really installed, what was running in the background that I don't know about and is my identity at risk. Yes folks it was that atrocious.
Pretty much you guys have posted my disappointments with the launcher. I am going to uninstall and keep up to date as to how it improves over time. I had been stock jb and was satisfied but will give nova or apex a try now.
So far, like many others, I am unimpressed with the launcher and sort of expected a bit more from it even if it is only in BETA but I don't mind. I am interested to see in what comes of it... so far, stock Android launcher suits me just fine and has done so since flashing Oxygen ROM for my HTC Desire way back when.

Andromium OS

Has anyone tried to install Andromium OS yet?
It is now available on the playstore now
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andromium.os
can't test it myself right now, but interested in your experiences.
App requires 4.4.2 As Said in discription. So it might not work.

And I don't think our processor meets the minimum specs. Too bad. I'd love to try it.
Edit--I tried it. Side loaded it but it wouldn't show up under apps. So I pushed it to sdcard but it said parsing error (of some sort)
Only reason I tried is because for fun i installed it on my KFHD7 running CM 11 and it installed and ran relatively well. So I don't think it's the hardware that's the problem for aftv. This is a great idea btw. I only just heard about it in this thread.

I played with it briefly this morning on my Galaxy Note 3. It doesn't seem like something worth using on the FTV, but for a tablet being used with a keyboard and mouse, it's very promising as a laptop alternative.

I was thinking it would be a good option since the mouse cursor was broken with the last aftv update. I assume with andromium you'd have a web browser that's easier to use plus I like the way it can be easily launched/shutdown in the status bar (at least on phones and tablets), so those that use launchers might like it more. Guess it don't matter. There's little reason for amazon to upgrade aftv but hopefully we'll have a custom ROM in the future.
Their ad used to say you only needed Android 4.2 to use it so maybe you should edit the first post to ask people if they have the old apks from earlier this year, cause older versions may work. Just a couple months ago it was working wth android 4.2. So if anyone has version 0.1.3 or older they should post the APK here. Versions 0.1.4 and 0.1.5 do not work, but older versions probably do since they only required Android 4.2. I did a google search so I know there was versions numbered 0.1.1, 0.1.2 and 0.1.3, but could not find the apk files.

If the mouse cursor is broken, wouldn't that make this even less usable? There is no native mouse cursor for Andronium so if the system cursor isn't visible, then it would be very difficult to control It does have a browser, and certain apps will work natively with it, but not many yet, and those that are supported do not fit inside a window. Only the Andronium specific apps will be windowed. Of the several hundred apps on my phone, only seven were natively supported. The others are hit or miss. . Since the FTV doesn't have a status bar, then that functionality would be lost on the FTV, as far as turning on and off Andronium. This app has lots of promise, but don't think it's a good fit.

You obviously looked into it more than me. What I saw was a clean desktop interface that I naturally assumed would run most applicable android apps. And thinking more...yea. Since the most cursor is now invisible in most apps, it most likely wouldn't show up in andromium either. Lots of potential there, but if its purpose is to be a PC alternative it has a ways to go.

I was interested in it awhile back for my tablet for work trips. Much easier to bring along a bt keyboard and mouse to go with my tablet than both.
