Andromium OS - Fire TV Themes and Apps

Has anyone tried to install Andromium OS yet?
It is now available on the playstore now
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andromium.os
can't test it myself right now, but interested in your experiences.

App requires 4.4.2 As Said in discription. So it might not work.

And I don't think our processor meets the minimum specs. Too bad. I'd love to try it.
Edit--I tried it. Side loaded it but it wouldn't show up under apps. So I pushed it to sdcard but it said parsing error (of some sort)
Only reason I tried is because for fun i installed it on my KFHD7 running CM 11 and it installed and ran relatively well. So I don't think it's the hardware that's the problem for aftv. This is a great idea btw. I only just heard about it in this thread.

I played with it briefly this morning on my Galaxy Note 3. It doesn't seem like something worth using on the FTV, but for a tablet being used with a keyboard and mouse, it's very promising as a laptop alternative.

I was thinking it would be a good option since the mouse cursor was broken with the last aftv update. I assume with andromium you'd have a web browser that's easier to use plus I like the way it can be easily launched/shutdown in the status bar (at least on phones and tablets), so those that use launchers might like it more. Guess it don't matter. There's little reason for amazon to upgrade aftv but hopefully we'll have a custom ROM in the future.

Their ad used to say you only needed Android 4.2 to use it so maybe you should edit the first post to ask people if they have the old apks from earlier this year, cause older versions may work. Just a couple months ago it was working wth android 4.2. So if anyone has version 0.1.3 or older they should post the APK here. Versions 0.1.4 and 0.1.5 do not work, but older versions probably do since they only required Android 4.2. I did a google search so I know there was versions numbered 0.1.1, 0.1.2 and 0.1.3, but could not find the apk files.

If the mouse cursor is broken, wouldn't that make this even less usable? There is no native mouse cursor for Andronium so if the system cursor isn't visible, then it would be very difficult to control It does have a browser, and certain apps will work natively with it, but not many yet, and those that are supported do not fit inside a window. Only the Andronium specific apps will be windowed. Of the several hundred apps on my phone, only seven were natively supported. The others are hit or miss. . Since the FTV doesn't have a status bar, then that functionality would be lost on the FTV, as far as turning on and off Andronium. This app has lots of promise, but don't think it's a good fit.

You obviously looked into it more than me. What I saw was a clean desktop interface that I naturally assumed would run most applicable android apps. And thinking more...yea. Since the most cursor is now invisible in most apps, it most likely wouldn't show up in andromium either. Lots of potential there, but if its purpose is to be a PC alternative it has a ways to go.

I was interested in it awhile back for my tablet for work trips. Much easier to bring along a bt keyboard and mouse to go with my tablet than both.

ShareKM - Share Keyboard and Mouse

This is one of the best keyboard and mouse sharing apps Ive used. If you use your N7 near your PC a lot, this is for you.

This looks very well done and the reviews have been good. I've been looking for exactly this type of app! Thanks!
Really great, exactly what I search for.
Suggestions:
- Option to disable the switching area
- Switching by double clicking the taskbar icon
- Better performance over wifi
- Option to use the right mouse button as given under Android (I think a few apps actually respond to it).
- Map tap and hold (probably not possible)
- Option to map the multitouch key
- Left + right mouse button for multitouch

can i use it for FPS android games?
I have been using ShareKM for a couple months ago and was working perfectly until today when i updated my nexus 7 to 4.3
The cursor is INVISIBLE,, i can move it, touch, toogle with ctrl + win, everything is fine even the keyboard but the fact that the cursor is invisible is pretty useless.
someone with the same issue?

Exactly facing the same issue.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
same issue here.. Any solutions available??

So what did you find in the end? Anything that works with linux on the PC end? PC Loves Droid - is that Windows only?
I'm experiencing the same issue using Nexus 7, 4.3, and ShareKM. I've asked around and haven't found any alternatives yet.
Cool! Does it work with USB keyboard mouse?
Yeap, facing the invisible cursor issue. Mailed the developer but no reply yet.
There's another app, BBQScreen: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.bbqdroid.bbqscreen
It's basically a vnc/rdp type app that allows you to control your tablet from your pc by remote connection. Doesn't work yet on 4.3, but the developer seems active and says it'll be supported soon.
Still having an invisible cursor and now it is having trouble connecting to my Nexus 7. It will only connect if I have the Nexus Root Toolkit application open, otherwise it doesn't recognize that I have a device connected. It has to do with the USB driver possibly, but I've reinstalled the drivers several times and never get a new authorization pop-up. I wish this thing would get updated or a reliable alternative would come out.
I have the same invisible cursor issue on Nexus 7 2013
yeah i'd connect perfectly, except cursor is invisible

While sending an E-mail is fine, please don't leave one star reviews on apps just because an update broke it especially if it is completely FREE like sharekm. It's not the dev's fault at all, there is no way for the dev to have known that a new update would break his code. Its reviews like that discourage devs. You are right this app is "baller" but please be a little more understanding, SmartUX (the developer of ShareKM) does not even have a donation method and as far as I can tell makes NO money off ShareKM. I really hope he updates his app, and if you ever come across this SmartUX; please add a donation method or even flattr on your site, I would love to support you.

I understand what you mean for the 1 star review, but I will say I do it because its an attention grabber. I always update reviews if the app is fixed. Devs also have the ability to respond to reviews. I understand it wasn't his fault, but for any new user who downloads it TODAY, but review is accurate. Part of being a good dev is continued support.
That being said, I understand this is a free app. I cannot BELIEVE it is free. If there was a paid version, I would very much so pony up $5-$10 for this app. Seriously.
Would be great if this worked... can only connect with nexus root toolkit open and still getting an invisible pointer on 4.3 nexus 7 (2013). keyboard portion works great though.
I tried enabling "pointer location" in dev options, but that just instantly crashes the tablet when the mouse is clicked...
"show touches" can be enabled, but pointer clicks don't count as touches I guess. Any other ideas?

If anyone else is looking for a similar program to this that works in android 4.3, there is now an alpha version of synergy for android available here:
http://sourceforge.net/p/synergyandroid/
It's a little buggy, but it works. Shows a mouse pointer and everything. I had to hit scroll lock a few times to get it working initially
I've been using this app for awhile and it's amazing. It had been working great until I updated my Nexus 4 to CM 10.2 yesterday and now I have the invisible cursor as well, so same as everyone else the 4.3 is causing the issue. I use this app at work and can't live without it at this point . Hoping for a fix really soon.
Funny thing is, I have CM10.2 Nightlies on both my N7 (OG) and S3... the cursour shows on the S3, but not on the N7.

Fire TV lags sometimes

Hello,
my Fire TV (German Version) lags some times, when I'm using the the catalog for looking the series and movies ... It freeze for a Moment and after that, the screen is not refreshing. When I'm use the up oder down keys on the remote I see the main category entrys and when i go into a main category - for example "Prime Movies", the gui is fine and I can use the firetv again ... the firmware is a little buggy, I think.
Anyone else here, with that problems?
Greetings
I always occasionally got menu glitches like invisible menus when something was already slid open and one time it got stuck where I couldn't navigate anymore because I kept getting sent back to the "Home" space.
The stock Fire TV launcher is really buggy.
I hate how the German version starts with the unrootable firmware.
My North American one runs quite smooth after some tweaks like "Forced GPU" that require root.
Maybe there'll eventually be a new exploit that works globally.
amazon should fix the issues and make a smooth and good working gui before they work on removing root access ...
And also USB media support should get enabled since root is blocked.

[Q] Un-Root My aftv?

I bought two rootable FireTVs the day after xmas at Staples, and promptly rooted one. The other is safely tucked away in my *doomsday bunker* still sealed, waiting for armageddon.
During the rooting process I determined that I lack the attention span / ambition to install the necessary boot menu / rom manager and manually update the firmware in order to have an up-to-date stb. So, my question is twofold:
1) If I re-enable updates and remove the dns blocking, will my aftv gracefully update itself? I've already uninstalled SuperSU as I don't believe I need it.
2) Assuming the box is running the latest official rom, will the following (sideloaded) apps still work?
MXPlayer
FiredTv
DirecTV App
Android Terminal Emulator
I have also built my own simple smb folder navigation app, so obviously the ability to run apps from unknown sources is needed also. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that's available on all FireOS versions.
I guess I have low standards, but this is really all I need for the box to be useful to me. I absolutely love the thing, save for the fact that the DirecTV App doesn't like the android version presumably because I never applied any updates.

Be careful with the doomsday bunker firetv. If that is Series 2 in serial, you may not be able to root it. If its series 3. Ex (70900305 or 303) then you can do the Ethernet trick and root it. I'd say remove that out, root it as soon as possible and put it back in the safe. I've done just that.
Now to answer your question. I doubt you need root for what you are doing but someone else may clarify. I highly recommend keep and follow up with root. Android Rom is around the corner and features like quick support for remote desktop etc have immense benefits.

Not sure how much more careful I can be with it than setting on a shelf above my bourbon collection.
But seriously, its serial starts w/ 70900201XXXXX, are you saying its too old of firmware? If so, it sounds to me like I should let it update and put the rooted one on the shelf.

I'm not sure we're on the same page w/ this. I'm very much wanting to "set it and forget it". Periodically flashing roms seems to me like the polar opposite. Reminds me of the good old days of the h-card. Life is too short to run in that exercise wheel again.

Agreed with your point of view, but for my needs, I primarily need root as I use Kodi all the time. I also use quick support for remote support for my family and friends so that wouldn't work without root. Once you've got it setup with root, it stays there unless you mess it up or forgot the block or disable step. I've made a total of 22 firetv's and not one has gotten updated after I've disabled the com update.
As for the Series 2, If you try to update, it will take you to the latest version of the firmware. In old days, it would increment one. Secondly, you cannot do the removal of the Ethernet trick to make it think there is no update. If you block the updates, it will give you an error but will enforce the update. Last week, I had to make 3 firetv's for family. I had a combination of series 2 and 3. I couldn't do any of the 2's. All 3's so far were good.
The good news is that bestbuy versions are mostly series 3. The downside to series 3 is that you have to downgrade first and then go up.
Sounds like I was on base w/ the notion of letting my untouched box update and benching the rooted one until I know how my needs are served w/o superuser.
I've toyed with xbmc since well, the days when my I had to fight my kids to use their original xboxes. While I can't scoff at the quality and sheer amount of work that's been put into it, for my tastes it's always come across as an application consisting of a ton of fluff, a pound of functionality, and a half ounce of useability. I just want to watch movies. It shouldnt take 7 button presses to get to them. :-/

Help with emulators in kodi

I've only just recently started trying out emulators and nownim trying to launch them from within kodi. Its surprisingly not very straightforward, at least not for me. But I did somehow get my n64 ROMs to import. All the covers are there, however, eventhough all the ROMs launch in n64oid, very few work when I load them from within kodi??? I'm looking for anyntips. Thinking I'll eventually sort it out but now my issue is adding my new ROM collection on aftv. Using NES.emu ALL the ROMs work but the problem I have is I can't add emu as a source because it simply shows up nowhere on the sdcard. Tried uninstalling, tried moving it to another location but its just not there. N64oid and muppen show up just not NES.EMU...THAT might be what makes this a aftv problem more so than one I'd take to the kodi forums. Can someone tell me what going on? Thanks.

I think you are over complicating the whole thing. Add your Emulator as a Favorite and then add it to the shortcut. You can then remove it from the fav's. You will then have your emu as a shortcut that shows up always. As for roms. I'm not sure what you mean. Start the emu and then run your rom.
try retroarch. it has a lot of cores that work almost perfect on the ftv.

Seems that would be a simple approach to get it to show up but, and remember I'm new to this, the way I add it is through file manager so adding it as a kodi favorite won't fix that. But if that works for you I might need to try a different method.
I've used retroarch and it is easy to get working but read awhile back people had serious issues integrating it to kodi. In fact, i didnt read they actually got it working. You understand I want to scrape ROMs into a game library in kodi, right? I've been able to run emulators for awhile and set shortcuts to them from within kodi but I'm finding full integration to be much more tricky.
Thanks for the reply. The guides are a bit intimidating but not overly hard. What I'm really wondering is why this app isn't showing up?

retroarch works very well. In my case, I took the old retroarch api which works very well on the firetv and added the cores from the latest version and did an inbound signature so it passes the api signature using one click. I have the apk which you could use. Send me a PM and I'll share it with you if you like.
That would be great. PM sent. Thanks a lot!
Have you tried ROM Collection Browser and/or Advanced Launcher? You shouldn't really have to mess with sources with RCB so long as the directory that your roms are contained in (or a directory higher up the tree) is also added as a source.

I definitely will. Sorry. Havent had a lot of time to sit down and try it. But ill report here when i do. Hopefully soon!
Update--brilliant! Thanks again. Got everything to scan in. With the exception of some controller mapping and gameplay glitches which ill learn as i go, this was simple and painless.
Im big time into bells & whistles so eventually wouldlike to get newer emulators with gameplay videos running with fanart and covers but one thing at a time. Honestly if I'd known it would be this quick I wouldve done it sooner. Much appreciated!

Status of any hack for 5.2.1.1

I'm a little late to the game here and missed rooting at 5.2.1.0, so now I seem stuck.
The last post from rbox on a recovery installer was 4th June 2016, and I couldn't find anything on that since, or any kind of downgrader.
Anyone have any news I've missed, or insider info?
What I really need is to mount CIF shares off my Synology for playing ROMs of various types. Any specific solution for that I may have missed?
Thanks bunches! :good:

In the same boat myself, doesnt seem to be any developmennts yet.
With all do respect as someone who has managed to root his AFTV at unbox time. What exactly IS the benefit of rooting the AFTV2? And, no this is not a rhetorical question.
One of the big hopes I've had about rooting the AFTV2 was to get Google PlayStore, and Gapps working. Well if the ever had, it seems that I too may have missed that Boat. As they do NOT seem to work under 5.2.1.1.
The only other reason why I might have wanted Root, pairing a Sixaxis Dualshock 3 Controller with my AFTV2. 'Cause I'm too cheep for an Amazon Controller. Doesn't work either, and in fact will cause the AFTV2 to crash, and reboot itself.
As for AdAway, (My prime motivation for rooting anything!), well I've yet to find a use for it. It doesn't block anything in the Fire Launcher. Not that I think it should anyway. But nothing I've ran into yet even has any in-app advertising.
Side loading Kodi never really required root, and has otherwise worked fine.
IMHO root on the AFTV2 is a tad overrated, for all you can do with it, or actually what you still can't do with it.

Well as noted, what I care about is simply mounting a network share. While somewhat interesting, your comment adds nothing to this particular thread.

I want to be able to add a usb Ethernet adapter. The fire stick 2 allows usb devices to be added natively. Ive contacted the Fire tv support team about a possible update to allow fire stick first gen to allow this without root, they said they would take it under consideration so probably no.

Surly you could add a network share from inside Kodi or? I kinda fail to see the point of it outside of Kodi otherwise.
@tylercheribini
Well I could imagine why some people might want to have two Ethernet Ports. I find little use for mine while on 802.11ac. But at least this is concept I can work with.

The Fire Stick has no ethernet port, it must be rooted in order to add one.
Sorry, missed that bit. Of course it (Firestick), doesn't.
Any news? Had an update mysteriously occur, moving it up to the latest firetv update. For some time, have been stuck without a solution. For list of what doesn't work at this date, neither the latest kingo root on pc with an a to a cable or the kingroot app work. Hoping sometime soon one of the remaining vulnerabilities is taken advantage of soon.
I've locked down my network in the meantime. Would recommend anybody that does care about root in the same boat as me do the same until a solution is found..
Sound advice... And BTW I do care about root. I just question the point of it on this Device. Which to my chagrin includes a bit more then the AFTV2... lol!
And, I concede their use cases aren't mine. And, at the moment the things I'd like to do on my AFTV2, which would otherwise require root as well. (i.e. PlayStore, and Dualshock 3 Support) have not brought me much joy even with root. So though I probably could have been less of a **** about it. I was generally interested in why others were so keen to root it. And I got my answer.
The only good news is that it's not a done deal with the FireOS, and eventuality another exploit shall be found, but you'll just have to hang on till then. Yeah sucks I know.
Lol. Yes it does suck.
I probably shouldn't have responded in that way either. It's hard to tell someone's intent based on a few lines in a thread. Didnt mean to come off bh.
Root has been good, was nice to be able to autostart the Kodi/spmc app and for me, using droidmote. that's a really great mouse keyboard app along with a ssh server and BusyBox... But then again, since I updated to the latest rooted ROM(5.2.1.1) in my other box, I've lost the autostart and some of the other bonuses. As much as I hate to do it, will have to start troubleshooting options maybe downgrade.
Til there's an option....
The Dirty Cow linux exploit was recently released (last week). This should allow root on the newer firmware versions (5.2.1.1, etc). Since it was just released last week people are working on it. This thread discusses the progress http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/security/dirty-cow-t3484879
and here is a post of someone who claims to have it working

I am working on getting this going on my AFTV2 with version 5.2.1.0.

Cool, looks promising, thanks.
I know that Android, is kind of a fork of Linux. But, isn't that kinda the point? Are we even sure that this 'ploit affects Android?
I'm in the same boat as you guys, i also wait for a 5.2.1.1 root
In my case i want to install the root-version of the moonlight streaming app which has native mouse support so i can finally play mouse/keyboard games on my home cinema (The non-root version is kinda buggy... scaling-problems, stuttering, no off-screen-movment, and so on..)

The reason I am looking for root is to be able to run the firestick on a VPN, which requires root.

Yes the exploit effects Android.
FYI, the issue is a vulnerability in how the Linux kernel handles memory / files. Android is just a specific set of applications running on Linux, so it is exploitable. I have used the exploit to modify files in /system and /etc on my FireTV running 5.2.1.1.
Starting with FireTV 5.2.1.0 SELinux is enabled which is an extra layer of protection. It is good from a security stand point -- it helps protects your device from malicious apps, etc. However in our case the "attacker" is the owner of the device ... us. People are working on bypassing SELinux protections, and making progress.
See this blog for some really technical info on the current status: https://v-e-o.blogspot.com/2016/10/way-to-android-init-with-cve-2016-5195.html

Forgive my ignorance, but what is vpn used for on the ftv aside from accessing content from different countries like Netflix and to possibly make it safer for one to stream certain content?
Well IIRC... One could set up a VPN, to log back into one Network (e.g. Network Storage), from an outside source (i.e. a Hotel Room), to push, and pull Files p, at will. But I think you managed to cover most of the "uses" of a VPN already.

As I implied in my original post - emulators generally do not support accessing network shares (where my extensive ROM collection is) directly. This leaves copying ROMs to the Fire TV itself to use them or copying my ROM collection to an external USB drive, neither option of which I find acceptable.
I want to access my extensive ROM collection directly via a SMB mapped folder on my Synology NAS, which research has informed me is only possible on a rooted device.
This isn't about Kodi, an extra ethernet port or any of the other stuff other people have mentioned in this thread.
