WP7 and WM6.1/6.5 apps compatibility myth? - Windows Phone 7 General

good evening,
i'm wondering if i can run windows 6.1 apps on the windows phone 7 because i work on a company that uses an apps that runs on wm 6.1 and the question is it likely to be able to run the app on wp7 like i could on wm 6.5
thanks in advance.

Nope, you'd have to build a new app...

And what a shame. My WM 6.5 had functionality that isn't in WP7. It would have been nice not to take a step back in some areas.

Celio Mobile Viewer not WM 6.5 compatible, hardreset

Sounded to good to be true: WinMobile fullscreen on your XP/Vista, with Celio Mobile Viewer, with a number of HTC devices supported. Ok, HD not listed, but from experience we know that this does not always mean the end.
Installed the driver cab and desktop application, the cab reset my HD, and...HD would only show bootscreen and no longer load WM 6.5 (Deuk V7). Ok, no big deal, battery out, hard reset, restore, back to MyMobiler for HD on the PC desktop.
But you, after reading this post, dont have to fall into the same trap. But maybe it runs under WM 6.1, wanna test?
Promising application though - if they work out HD-compatibility, probably also WM 6.5.

HD with latest 5/1 build now appears on beta list, under WM 6.1
Same thing happened to me with my Titan and WM6.5
and dummy me...they came out with a new build which I tried AGAIN & had the same experience.
HTC Titan WM6.5 & Celio Redfly MobileViewer are not curently compatible as of 5/5/09

wm 6.5 versus wm 6.1

Why upgrading?
Please add feedback: pluses...minuses?
...wm 6.5 : high Ram use, possible memory leak, buggs...(?)
so why upgrade? Because its "new" ?...is it something like pc-s xp to vista?
I found Windows MObile 6.5 had a nicer interface. It feels a like a few generations ahead of 6.1 because 6.1 is a lot like WM5 and its predecessors.
It's become like the iphone and android with application screens in the start menu and now has a dedicated marketplace where you can purchase more applications. It already has over 500 applications and that number increases by the day! Seeing that WM6.5 just came out you can expect even more applications to come out.
I didn't know there was any competition.
Since I upgraded from 6.1 to 6.5, I haven't seen a single reason to go back...
WM6.1: Faster, less battery hungry
WM6.5: Nicer UI graphics, finger friendly

6.5 vs 6.1 program compatibility?

I have had a TP2 with WM 6.1 since launch. It broke.
Verizon shipped me a replacement running WM 6.5...
Should all of the programs and tweaks I have accumulated work on 6.5 or do I need to start over?
The majority should just work without problems. It is hard to say since I don't know what programs you had installed, but I would venture to guess things are 95% compatible.
I have been able to use all of the applications I ran when I had winmo 6.1 on winmo 6.5. The only issues i've ever had with compatibility had to do with net framework 3.5

[Q] Will Windows Mobile 6.1 / 6.5 Apps work ?

Hi guys,
Over the years as a Windows mobile fan, i have acumalated quite a large amound of Windows Mobile 6.1 / 6.5 Apps / games etc.. I know they have almost always worked on both 6.1 and 6.5 but will this be the case for Windows Mobile 7 ?
Are my collection of apps etc.. any good ?
Thanks
WM 6 or older apps won't work on Windows Phone 7. There is no backwards compatibility.
Consider WP7 not as "Windows Mobile 7", next generation of WM, but something completely new.

Exactly. It's not Windows Mobile 7 but Windows Phone 7.
So this would mean everything new from scratch, but i'm sure new apps and stuff should start coming out for it considerably quick right?
I'm a bit of a app/game freak love to customise my gadgets, loved the CHT UI for my HD2 so would love it if something like that was available for Windows Phone 7.
I want to but the HD7, but at really attached to my beloved HD2 and all the apps and custom stuff i have done to it, i'm sure you know what i mean and how i feel.
Thanks for the replies very much appreciated.
There will be lots of apps and especially games for WP7.
However, there will not be any sort of home screen customization/hacking. Maybe eventually but it will only come in the way of hacked firmware and will not be officially supported (this is no different than CHT though).

[Q] Windows Mobile 6 Apps on Windows Phone 7?

Hi !
As far as I know, beneath Windows Phone 7 there is basically still Windows CE running. So I'm wondering, is/may/will it be possible to run Windows Mobile 6 Apps on Windows Phone 7? Or do we already know that this can't happen because the underlying architecture is too different? Is anyone working on this?
For example, has anyone tried to copy a Windows Mobile 6 Filemanager to WP7 and run it somehow?
Best regards
intripoon
I'm going to go with no here.... not only from all of the months and months and months of people saying no but from the simple fact that WP7 is based on silverlight which wm 6.1 and 6.5 aren't.... at all....
This is why aps aren't backwards OR forwards compatible which people put up a pretty big stink about when WP7 was announced but seems to have died down now that we're able to see what can actually be done with silverlight
So... no.. not compatible
Also, just think about the work to emulate the wm6 crappiness. Thousand of empty bucles, glitchy graphic rendering, millions of delays, agggg..
No, seriously. Windows Mobile was powerful, but it's just too old. It should be possible to emulate the applications (in theory everything is possible), but I think is just too much effort, and there is no such big reason to put resources on something like that.
