[MISC] Flashable All-in-one-data2sd-Solution v0.2e + v0.4 test (dec 27th) - G2 and Desire Z Android Development

Now found this at the HTC Desire forum, but don`t tested
at the moment and don`t know if this works on Desire Z/G2
too!
It seems to be a good solution.
Features:
- Supports: Ext2, Ext3, Ext4 (and if kernel supports it: ) btrfs, ReiserFS
- Supports loop device as optional addon (as siberes data2sd)
- Flashable zip for many app2sd ROMs (no long setup required)
- It does a e2fsck (disk check) on every boot and creates a logfile on the sdcard (/sdcard/e2fscklog.txt)
- looks nice if you do a logcat on boot
- no "settings lost on reboot" bug like in my old or siberes script
- changes the scheduler for the sd-card and internal to noop for better performance on sd.
- Nandroid Backup of EXT2/3/4 external with AmonRa 2.0.0.1 or any clockwork recovery.
- Removes the common app2sd scripts on its own

Hey mate..Thanks for the contribution..I just wanted to ask if there could be any bennefits to using this on a device as DZ..internal memory is more than suufcient and our nand I/O are pretty huge..Back when i had a HTC Desire i used this hack, but i am not sure if this could result in any kind of benefit..Please share ur knowledge/point of view i am interested.

Awesome I might test later... Although like what Chris said, The I/O speeds are pretty fast already

did anyone test this out

Well if you have a class 6 or better sdcard then it will be faster then internal memory that's the only real benefit that I could think of!
Sent from my HTC Vision

Sorry to ask, but i really don't understand this..? what is this about? creating more virtual memory or what is it?
thx

I tried this and it kept causing a boot loop for me.... but I realized later that I think if I had mounted data and cache, like you do for GB gaps it probly would have worked.... just a suggestion. Also there is another all in one data/cache/dalvikcache to sd-ext option that I am testing now.... but I can't remeber were I found it. I think it is called dtappstosd or something like that. And is from the developer dark something...........
EDIT ok he is called dark tremer and it can be found by searching for apps2sd or datasd
EDIT: I should have said mount system/and data.....
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

This is a good idea and good find however, since we have Darktremors a2ext for the G2 and it does data2sd I don't see a huge need for this.

[DEAD][UTIL] LagFix using update.zip's - v2.3.3

Made a new thread for the update.zip versions of the LagFix since i have had people asking me to do that so it doesn't get cluttered up together with RyanZA's fix in his thread.
Only one file included... Will overwrite old root version.
Testet on firmware: (Did a fresh reflash every time)
I9000:
I9000XWJG5 (Eclair - Europe)
I9000XWJM1 (Eclair - Europe)
I9000XWJM5 (Eclair - Europe) (Thanks Peaster111)
I9000XXJP2 (Froyo - Europe)
I9000JPJG8 (Eclair - Africa)
Captivate: (Thanks to Zilch25 for testing)
I897UCJH2
I897UCJH3
Instructions:
(Note that i recommend that you do a fresh reflash through ODIN.)
1. Download the update.zip of your choice and rename it to update.zip.
2. Place it on your internal sdcard.
3. Turn off your phone.
4. Hold down Vol Up+Power button+Home Button for a couple of seconds until u see the galaxy logo .
5. Use the up and down buttons to get to update.zip.
6. Press menu button on update.zip to select it.
7. After install, the phone restarts.
8. Go to the newly installed 'SL4A' application from the app list, open it and choose either LagFix_Ext2.sh or LagFix_Ext4.sh to install the fix.
9. The script should run takes around 2-4 mins before it reboots.
10. First reboot after applying script will take some time as it's moving data around and mounting folders.
Regarding Step 4: What is written is for GT-I9000 version.
For Captivate and Vibrant as other people with that phone.
For Captivate people that are trying this on I897UCFJ6 please read the following post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7939738&postcount=177
Notes:
The current version works on Froyo BUT you can only use the ext2 option as the current kernels in Froyo doesn't support ext4.
Known Bugs:
Got no idea if people still will have problems with changing fonts with ext2 since it works for me.
Credits:
RyanZA - Original bat fix
husq510 - Supplied files needed to enable ext4 support
Zilch25 - For being my test subject on the Captivate board
Donations:
Had a few people ask for donation link so here it's: Donate
Do note though that you don't have to donate if you don't want to.

Hey, would you like me to test this on JP3??
Thread
is it possible to undo this lag fix? what scores in quadrant are we expecting with this?
All lag is gone with this or is there some left as I encounter in ryan's? tnks in advance for the hard work
Hi
Great tool
if i'll replace files in the zip will it still work?
(like replacing busybox with version 1.18 and replacing apn-conf with one who has Israeli carriers or adding fonts library for hebrew fonts)

There is a script included to remove the lagfix. From test with stock kernel quadrant score is excepted to be around 2100-2200 with ext2 and 1800-1900 with ext4.
From all the testing we have been doing on this release when fixing bugs there haven't really been that much lag... you might see small lag when opening an application for the first time or when installing an app since we are using a different method this time where we don't move the application's apk's after it's installed, but personally i haven't seen this yet.

Hmm no idea tbh... You might be able to open the zip, replace the files and close it again without losing the signature that it's signed with, but this is something that i haven't tried yet so don't know if it will work.
thanks for the answer.. one more question if you don't mind answering.. what would you advise ext2 or ext4? which provide better performance despite of the score? thank you

I would recommend ext4 since it have journaling, which means there is a smaller chance on losing data if your phone lose power by pulling the battery or if the battery reach 0%.
Other people would say ext2 since ext4 might reduce the lifetime on the NAND since it has journaling
I have only tested the ext4 myself pretty much while i have had others to test both ext2 and ext4. Also this is what Zilch25 has posted about ext2 and ext4 on the captivate forum:
Is EXT2 for me?
If you want your Quadrant scores to be bloated beyond belief and don't care if your data spontaneously combusts (Results may vary). Alternatively if you're worried about your NAND wear leveling not being able to handle the strain of EXT4 journaling.
Okay EXT2 is scary, how about EXT4?
You can't afford for your things to get corrupted? Weirdo. Real world performance between EXT4 and EXT2 is barely noticeable if at all, for the everyman this is probably your best bet.

i think u can replace or delete files as u like.
i replaced, delted or added files every time before i flashed a new ROM, like HACKECLAIR or SamSet.
Works well.
applying ext4 gives me the stopped unexpectedly google error
Yeah I can second that... after a full wipe SL4A is giving me FC's now too =P
Just wanted to add:
EXT2 may be less safe than EXT4, but to-date, there has been no reports of any corrupt or lost data using the EXT2 fixes. This is over a pretty huge sample over a fairly long period. Not to say there are no problems with EXT2, but there has not been any impact to anyone for using EXT2 as yet.
Other than that, awesome job Tayu! Looks great!
yep, i get the force close for either script from sla4
OK ill reupload with the old version of sl4a then.
Im still not sure wether i should go for Ryan's one-click .apk fix or this one.
Anyone tested this one on I9000XXJM2? wich is stock firmware for me.

If you got root explorer you can remove it from /system/app

[ROM]Orange Glacier [v2.0.0] -Stock Variant on EXT4 - Faux123 [May-15-2011]

Re-Introduce Orange Glacier 2.0.0
The reason I created this ROM is NOT TO COMPETE with anyone else, it is mainly for myself. I wanted a light weight ROM that's STABLE and FAST but I also wanted to try something slightly different.
I WON'T BE Updating this ROM unless something is Seriously WRONG with it...
(I WON'T BE taking FEATURE REQUESTS and such, most can be added by yourself from various mods found in the Theme and Apps sub forum )
So here it is: Orange Glacier ?!?!?!?
Why the name:
Because ClockworkMod Recovery (3.0.0.5+) for Gingerbread is colored Orange for EXT 4 partitions and since this ROM uses EXT 4 File System (FS) as its primary FS, I decided to name it this way.
So what is in this Orange Glacier?
1. Completely rebuilt from Stock Image
2. Uses exclusively EXT 4 FS
3. Moved all optional Apps to /data/app partition for easy uninstall (including most Google Apps)
4. Rooted, /system set to RW by default
5. Deodexed, Zip aligned all /system/apps and framework files using ROM kitchen from fellow XDA member.
6. Dalvik memory boosted from default 24MB to 36MB
7. Few CFS tweaks
I want to Thank the following:
TeamSilence for inspiring me to start it all,
Pack for the awesome battery mods,
dsixda for the easy to use ROM kitchen (highly recommended to anyone interested in cooking their own ROM, it CAN'T be easier than what he provided)
Installation:
The File ==> Orange Glacier Version 2.0 <==
WARNING: The INSTALLER WILL ERASE ALL USER DATA AND SYSTEM DATA!!!
Requirement: MUST HAVE CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY 3.0.0.5+
1. Reboot into recovery
2. Wipe Cache Partition
3. Install zip from SDCard
4. Once installation is completed, select Reboot System Now
Note: Upon first reboot may take up to 4~6 mins.
The following pre-installed Apps will need to be updated MANUALLY from Market by searching for their names:
Google Search
Youtube
Google Maps
T-Mobile MyAccount
T-Mobile TV
Qik Video Chat
TwonkyMobile
Google Street
All Built-in Games (Monopoly, NFS etc)
or they can all be easily un-installed because they are NO LONGER System Apps.

There's nothing special about this ROM.. It's mainly stock with the tweaks I mentioned in the OP...
stock is good for my battery i need battery more than fancy animations and all this gingerbread stuff
Sweet! Downloading now. Thanks Faux!
BTW, are there any known bugs/issues Faux?
Everything you have done is so amazing, so everything you do, we would pay special attention~~Tky Faux!!
nothing wrong basically itsstock with a few additions like battery mod and lil visuals here and there and speed up alot i dont feel no lag at all everything works idk bout ffc on qik cause my girl dont have but evrything is good to go
Well, this ROM gives me the best data speeds i have ever had. Unfortunately, every time that i reboot, it erases all of my screens. not sure why and OP says no support for this ROM. So i guess i will flash something else. It pains me to have to give up the data speeds.

He actually stated no support unless something serious is wrong. That seems pretty serious if happening to others as well. I would love to load a "de-bloatwared" stock image with good speed and full functionality. I can't wait to hear more feedback on this one.

Yeah I tried this one out a few days ago and it works awesome, I was trying to go all out with my phone so I flashed ele's speedmachine rom applied this fix, applied the noop scheduler fix and I was trying to enable data2ext. That would have been awesome but unfortunately I have not been able to get data2ext to work on any roms I try, maybe some day but with the newest nightly, erasmux's fixes (thanks to him and a warm welcome back), the scheduler fix and his apps2sd with the cm7 flykernel 12a, and this sd card fix my phone runs so smooth.
Try to use Darktremor's app - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715940
Data2SD works well. My suggestion is to use ext2 filesystem. Journaling filesystem will kill sd-card too quickly
what zip did you use ? from the thread because its sound promising

INSTALL PROCEDURE
MAGLDR partition sizes - Use Last 24mb NAND - 5/330/10
Install the rom as normal with CWM
Reboot and wait for the rom to finish first boot and complete the HTC wizard, wait a couple of minutes at the launcherpro desktop, you may config wifi and some settings but DO NOT add any accounts to accounts and sync.
Reboot
Flash the Data2SD in CWM
Reboot
Install Superuser from the market
I had to strip "everything" I could to get this rom to boot with enough NAND data space to function before rebooting again to install data2sd. I had 22mb data space left on my first boot.
Enjoy

Maybe a Sense 3.5 release but there isn't much difference between 3 and 3.5 for the purposes of this ROM, also I could not shrink a sense 3.5 rom enough for first boot so..
A. I need time to experiment with more stripping ideas
B. Learn how to integrate Siberes Data2SD
C. Figure out why removing the A2SD+ from the sense 3.5 runny roms released here completely breaks them.

let me know how it goes asap, i want to be sure 330m system works, 315 worked for me but as you can see i have under 5mb left.
After you flash go to advanced and report errors, mount sdcard and check the cwm log and make sure all the minzips worked, to ensure you didint run out of system partition space.
And remember to enable use last 24 nand in magldr under services.

So your thinking this could be fixed in a .32 kernel if someone could figure out why the .35 kernel fixes it by finding the missing part ?
I am simply hoping soon Dorimanx might dev a .35 kernel with his performance modifications, I think he just needs time.
Just an update on this rom, the latest zram script by Dorimanx is clashing with this roms oom settings, I am going to work on tweaking it. I will post an updated zram script for this ROM once I am satisfied with the settings.

yes, that is what i want to say, I think that should has possible be fix. but if someday DM decide to coding .35 ... well, I thought we put it away temporary and try our best for cooking rom first, and if possible then we could try to fix and coding kernel together. because kernel builder not to many but have lot of chefs, so i thought maybe we should join to kernel part to find out the bugs.

It's a good idea but atleast for me I know nothing of kernels, I can't even figure out how to compile a kernel lol, I have tried.
I will ask dorimanx if he is willing to assist in this tho, I will offer him my full support to test.

[Q] The best app2sd implementation for HTC Desire

Hi,
I'm thinking about which app2sd implementation for HTC Desire is the best. I know it depends on the ROM, but some solutions are more/less universal. Right now, I'm using CM7.1 ROM and I'm planning to try its clones (MildWild / Cibernodo Mod2Bravo) or ICS when will be final.
I'm using a microSD Sandisk Mobile Ultra 32GB, Class 6, partitioned with gParted (30GB fat32 + 1,5GB ext4).
I consider those options:
S2E (simple2ext) - probably the best solution for CM ROMs.
AMARULLZ DATA TO SD-EXT - for some people too laggy and problematic, Plus: System App Data + Dalvik in Internal, System App apk + 3rd party App Data & Apk on sd-ext
DarkTremmor A2SD Script - uses symbolic links as others. Some people reported problems too, some people are satisfied.
sibere's Data2SD - I tried with my old card (A-Data class6) , but I faced huge lags. Minus: complicated installation, no longer support for lates script for easy installation.
Proz0r's INT2SD For AOSP - no symlinks whatsoever, seems to be very good and fast. I faced some FCs after some time, but it was with old version. Minus: not universal - must be compiled for every single ROM independently.
Mounts2SD - I'm running right now, seems to be very good, fast and stable. Plus: still in development, aroma installer, lot of options, universality.
From my experiences: for the best performance (speed) is recommended to left dalvik cache in internal, and if possible also application data should stay in internal memory.
What are your experiences? What are the advantages /disadvantages of the concrete solutions according to you?
I am interested about stability (FCs, random restarts) and speed (lags)?
in my experience, s2e is the best for cm7, as it is built specifically for it. I found amarullz xscript too laggy and problematic, although I've heard that it has improved lately. I tried Proz0r's INT2SD but I found it unusable - extreme lag. sibere's Data2SD was ok for me. I would recommend sibere's d2sd out of the lot, except for cm7.

best so far, in my opinion: AD2SDX by amarullz (CM7r2 HBOOT)
Mounts2SD plays great with ICS.
Used s2e before
Thank you all for your replies .
I had new experience with Proz0r's INT2SD (with CM7.1) - from the beginning it was very good, but after few days I was facing FCs (force closes of many applications). Reboot helped just on short time.
Right now I decided to try Cibernodo's MOD of CM7 and I have these experience:
- with the S2E - I had again performance problem and not enough space.
- According to discussion, there were some problems also with DarkTremmor A2SD
- so I'm trying AMARULLZ solution.
I will report the performance/stability after some time.

Don't know if you can use it (just make backup and try it). But here you have the thread:

@siavash2death: i think it will work without problem (as i'm using it also with Cibernodo ROM based on CM7 nightly), but make a backup for sure.
BTW: link is also in my first post and my signature...
