[obsolete] Clockworkmod Recovery v3.0.0.6 - supports ext3/4 2.2/2.3 - myTouch 4G Android Development

Thanks to Zinx and Koush, we now have a recovery that will support all roms without the need to switch between recovery versions.
This does not fix the issue with charging with power off. Only difference is it supports both ext3 and ext4.
This will be added to rom manager eventually, but i built this tonight and thought it would be a good idea to share.
Unzip the attached file, and flash through fastboot or with flash_image.
I was able to successfully wipe data/cache from cm7, and flash iced glacier. Also tested from iced glacier back to cm7.
Edit: Until I do more testing, please dont try to flash roms directly from rom manager.

woo! thanks!

Oh yeahhhh! Been waiting for it. Flashing it in a bit!

I already hate flashing on this phone so any help is appreciated highly. will wait for cwm option though. thanks.

Im sure true will update his zip to be able to flash this as soon as he notices this.

unzip the recovery.img into the root of your sd card and then open up terminal emulator and type this:
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
OR
plug your phone into the computer and using ADB type this:
adb shell
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
DONE!

I type flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img and its not working I'm doing it in terminal emulator after I hit su and it says flash image not found I unzipped it and everything
Sent from a guy living in a van down by the river

Ya it wont flash thru terminal .. just says something about failed with errors: -1

Oh guess ill fastboot flash then
Sent from a guy living in a van down by the river

Nevermind .. it will flash thru terminal ... it comes as zip ... then when extracted it is called recovery.img .. but that's a folder ... have to copy the file inside to somewhere and then delete the folder and paste it back to the root of the card

Is the nandroid restore fixed?
What I mean is when I back up my current Rom on 3.0.0.5, It backups fine , but after I'm done trying another ROM & want to revert back to the backup, the backup doesn't work it stays on the splash unless I go back to 2.5.1.2.
Anyone ever had that issue?

I haven't had issues with restore with 3.0.0.5. I got it from the nightly thread .. backs up and restores fine everytime ... and its used a lot.
Now I have not tried backup or restore with this 3.0.0.6 version yet.

Some of my restores were the stock sense rooted rom and others were cm6 and then cm7 nightlies.
The only thing that I noticed was you clouldnt flash a recovery image in stock roms .. but that was due to some flash_image thing missing in the rom itself.

Make sure the recovery image is in the same directory as your fastboot.exe file. For simplicity, rename the recovery to recovery.img.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
That's it.

Thanks!!!

Can't flash other ROM's after CWM issue

I was affected by CWM when I upgraded to 3.0. I can't flash any ROM's except for Fresh's. I've tried going through Rom Manager, manually downloading ROM, AR recovery. The ROM install will complete but when I reboot I'm still in Fresh's. I don't know what it did to my phone. I've even deleted the rom.zip and downloaded it again thinking it was a bad download. From here on out I'm permanently switching to AR so if you guys can let me know what I should do.
By the way I list my backups. I did have a backup of UD but it won't restore in CWM. Will it work if I copy the backup from CWM and move it to the Amon Ra folder? I don't want to try it and possible make things worse.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yes I need help on this, too. I wanted to go to Myn's rom and can not at all. And I believe I read backups are not interchangeable between CW and RA.
You need to restore amon_ra 1.8 as your recovery and then reflash your rom. Cwm backups are not compatible with ra.

I tried that. I re-downloaded the ROM's, placed on the root, flashed in Amon Ra and it completes but doesn't boot up. Out hangs at the white htc evo splash screen. The CWM broke my phone.
I'm trying to avoid flashing the stock RUU and rooting again. I'm guessing there may be a file thats conflicting. By the way I deleted ROM manager permanently.

you can do this using cwm(rom manager) , if its greyed out then dl the latest amon_ra1.8 and put on the root of your sd card, then try again thru cwm. thats what worked for me.
But yea the latest cwm update isnt something to get excited about. doesnt play nice on some evo's.
stick with good ole faithful Amon_Ra and start flashing from recovery, not from some app. its always stable and not to mention wipes correctly/easily
Any tips? I need to get my AOSP rom and Sense ROM loaded.

[Q] Can't upgrade clockwork mod from 2.5

Okay, so I was trying to upgrade to the latest nightly for my mother, since she loves gingerbread now. So here is my issue, I know that I need clockwork mod 3.0 or higher to get the nightlies to work, I have gotten #14 to install with the old recovery she has on there now. But when I try to update the recovery it will either not upgrade or revert back to 2.5 upon reboot. For example:
If I try using fastboot to install, I get an error. I don't remember exact error, but its a long the lines of it can't install.
If I try using the PB31IMG.zip method, but it just detects the zip and wont install or anything.
If I install the recovery via the recovery, it will work for the one time it loads, then upon reboot it reverts to old one.
I tried installing the newest nightly with the old recovery, but it will just load and then soft boot and repeat forever till I pull battery.
I rooted the phone with the unrevokr root and recovery method, so I don't know if that has anything to do with my problems.
Any help would be appreciated.

Before you flash a new recovery with ROM Manager go into ROM manager settings and check the box to erase the old recovery before flashing the new one.
Then scroll to the bottom of the main ROM Manager menu and select all clockworkmod recoveries. Flash 3.0.0.8 since it has fixes for 3.0.0.5 issues.

[Q] Evo Root Fail

Today I tried the new method to obtain S-off and root my 2.3.3 Evo. All went fine but now my phone will only boot into the clockwork recovery tool. How can I fix my phone or get it back to normal?
Have you tried to flash a ROM?
You can try to download and flash a ROM from this site.
Also can you get to your bootloader by pressing volume down and power if so you can find an ruu to put on your sd to put you back to stock.

I tried to flash a cm7 but I got a status error 7 so I am downloading synergy now.
Make sure you wipe everything but sdcard.
Also its possible you got a bad download I also recommend using Amon ra 2.3

I tried installing Synergy but I got the following messages:
assert failed: write_raw_image_("/tmp/boot.img","boot")
E:Error in /sdcard/Synergy-RLS1-supersonic.zip (status 7)
You might have a bad dl are you downloading from your phone on 3g.
And you should try this recovery I had nothing but problems with cwm when I first rooted and went to ra and never looked back.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
You can also try flashing this before you flash a ROM it will wipe for you and don't worry it won't wipe your sdcard.

First thing first make a nandroid backup then you can download that vr-superwipe I posted but I'm not really 100% if that works in cwm recovery but when you wipe wipe everything but your sdcard well you don't really have to wipe stats but I don't even think that option is in cwm.
You should really think about switching to Amon ra 2.3 if you haven't you can even flash it from ROM Manager.

I had that same issue when I changed my recovery version. I wen't from standard to touch recovery and that's when I noticed that issue. I mounted and un-mounted my cache partition then wiped all my cache partitions and the issue never came back. But I just change my recovery back to standard again to flash an ICS Rom, and haven't noticed it back though. Maybe it happens when you change to a touch recovery?
Did you just change your recovery by chance?
I did just go from 5.0.2.6 to 5.0.2.7

Hey guys, I hate to bump an old thread, but I'm having the same problem.
I tried flashing a new CWM, which didn't fix it, and I tried what RikkKeith suggested ("I mounted and un-mounted my cache partition then wiped all my cache partitions and the issue never came back.")
I'm not sure what caused this, but here's a list of odd things that have happened and what I've done recently (in chronological order):
music stopped working (not sure if this has anything to do with it)
I attempted to un-install and reinstall Avast anti-theft
attempted to install the aGPS fix
restored from a backup
used ODIN to flash CWM 5.0.2.7 (instead of 5.0.2.6. Happened after this problem started appearing)
The phone is a Koodo T989D running the stock OS.
Thank you VERY much for any help.

Thanks for the suggestions man.
I was hoping to avoid CWM 6.x for a little bit as I'm essentially operating as tech support for four T989Ds, and I'm trying to keep this stuff as similar as possible between all four.
I'll give them a try and then report back.

Can you tell how i can reformat my cache partition into ext4 format? i've got the same problem since i installed CWM Touch so i removed it and ut my hone back to stock unrooted and the problem still persists and i cant use flashimage do anything that includes intalling custom recovery imgs with the adb shell and terminal app in android. even with root access i dont have the right permissions. ive tried fixing the permissions but it fails. so plz help, im pretty desperate to try anything to fix my phone.
Nevermind about my cry for help guys, I figured out a solution by going back to stock, flashed twrp, and put CyanogenMod temporarily just to convert an img file to a flashable md5 with the help of terminal emulator for android (been having problems with heimdall lately), etc…
Here's what i did when i said converting…
I opened a linux command line (terminal emulator) on my phone, and ran these commands on the img file.
Code:
cd /mnt/sdcard/download
mv recovery-clockwork-6.0.2.7-hercules.img recovery.img
tar -c recovery.img > recovery.tar
md5sum -t recovery.tar >> recovery.tar
mv recovery.tar recovery.tar.md5
zip recovery.tar.md5 recovery-clockwork-6.0.2.7-hercules.zip
rm recovery.tar.md5
rm recovery.img
exit
Connected my phone to my pc, copied the zip, extracted it, flashed the image using ODIN, and Voilà.
Then i followed the other steps on CyanogenMod's wiki for installing CM10 onto the hercules and everything went perfectly into order.

First, use smelkusmod recovery.
Clockwork is the worst recovery for the EVO. Why you ask? It's been known to not wipe properly on the EVO, in turn giving you problems on than newly flashed ROM. After you get done with that, try again, or flash a different rom

Yes there is a way. Connect to your computer via usb. While in recovery, go to mount usb-ms or something of the sort, and that lets you look in the sdcard in window's so you can put a new Rom on there

Or if you have a card reader, just put the card in the reader and plug the reader into your PC. Download the Smelkus recovery and whatever ROM you want, then put your card back in your phone. You can install the new recovery through the bootloader so long as the recovery file is named PC36IMG.zip. After installing the new recovery you can go into recovery, wipe everything and install the new ROM.

I am so happy right now! I feel stupid at the same time. Tried plugging it in to a different port. So seems like one of my USB ports aren't working. Who would've thought. Anyway so now im am going to flash that recovery. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Glad you got it working. Don't forget to make a Nandroid backup once you get your new ROM up and running
