[Q] My EVO 4G unreachable after 2hrs standby - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I bought an EVO 4g from USA and tried to get the service from China Telecom. Everythings seems all OK for my EVO 4g. But recently, I got an issue is that my phone can't reachable after my phone standby arround 2hrs. So, I missed many calls from friends and coworkers. When my friends call me, the service voice will say the phone you dialed is power off. The strange thing is I even don't know when the issue happens as the signal icon looks OK, the 3G also accessable. And, it will come on when I dial an any number of my contacts. Can some master from this forum can help me?
Some background I need to share:-
China Telecom is a CDMA service provider in China. However, the mainstream phone they provided is using an UIM card which is very similar as SIM card in GSM network. The identify paramaters are embed in UIM card but not in the phone. Before I can use EVO 4g, I need to write the parameters (IMSI, AKEY, ...) into phone with 3rd party software or via EPST.
Thanks

Nobody knows how to reslove it?

No calls after unlock

UPDATE:
Just realized that v2.2 only unlocks up to Radio ver 1.10.00, So i guess i have to downgrade the radio?
Hi,
I had a fully working XDA II (ROM 1.72.00WWE, Radio 1.17.00) After unlocking with with the 2.2 unlocker the phone doesnt make/receive calls and signal is almost non-existant. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
Many regards and thanx in advance.
Jim
Mines the same if I put in a pay as you go sim nothing like no signal. if i put a voda card in signal but just beeps and cuts the call same if I dial in.sound familiar?/ let us know if you find how to sort this please
Robleg, your phone appears the same as a phone that is blocked to the networks.
If anybody is living in the Cheltenham Gloucestershire area we are having atrocious problems with getting any kind of call through, I think they have taken down some repeaters from the high rise blocks without any replacement sites to resite them.
Having the exact same problem. Unlocked and now radio dead!

Query: Simultaneous GPRS data transfer & Voice call

I have an MDA C3. When web & walk is transferring internet Data and a call comes in, the phone does not ring. It goes directly to the voicemail.
T-Mobile customer service tell me that this is correct as you can either transfer internet data or make a call.
Is that right? I thought that was with WAP which is analagous to dial-up. Surely GPRS is analagous to Broadband.
Anyone else want to try this:
Go to Web & walk home page. Attempt loading up the guardian page (This will take a while). Whilst this is loading, call your phone number and see if it rings or goes direct to VM.
I spend lots of time browsing so I must be losing lots of calls!
Feedback greatly appreciated.
From what I have heard only UMTS devices can support simultaneous voice/data.
Yes - but not GRPS that uses GSM band instead of UMTS.
However, some devices have troubles keeping the data link active when a call comes in.
I am having the same issue (also on T-Mobile UK).
Then IE is running or AS is downloading my mail (I use direct push) all my calls go straight to voicemail.
This is worrying as I just moved over to T-Mobile for the web n walk package to allow me to have instant e-mails. This is a pain if it means I miss calls whilst my mail is downloading.
You'd think that the chances of the 2 coinciding are slim (I don't get a lot of mail, maybe 10 per day) but the wife has already complained 3 times since Friday that she went straight to voicemail, and each time it was exactly as i got a new mail.
Is this a limit of GPRS, the Orbit or just T-Mobile?
Thanks
Dae
I was surprised too... Thats why I posted the query. I thought my phone and/or SIm were faulty. But T-Mobile tell me thats how its supposed to work.
With W&W and Email, Its really hard for someone to get through with a voice call. It was worrying for me as I tend to browse the net whenever I am waiting around. This means that when I am on the bus surfing, no one can get through to me!!
Surely if there is a limitation, then the phone should give precendence to the Voice call. After all, you can pick up your emails or surfing where you left off.
I would really be interested to see if this is a T-Mobile only problem.
No itschase is spot on.
It's not a t-Mobile problem, it's the same for any GSM based network.
Only 3g (UMTS) phones can do data and voice at the same time. No matter what network you are on.
I have just run an experiment in the office as follows:-
Me (artemis with v3 black and blue) - Voicemail when data active
person 1 (MDA compact III - v3 black and blue) - Voicemail when active
person 2 (hermes) - no Voicemail when active.
We are all on t-mobile UK, and therefore it doesn't look like a network issue, but maybe a ROM problem?

What problem? Everything is working as it supposed to. If it's so important to you. Go buy a 3g phone!
I now fully appreciate that 3g phones are the only ones to support this type of behaviour.
I was trying to be helpful and post the results of my test as at that point I didn't realise that only 3g phones worked as such. I was lead to believe this by wikipedia:-
"Class B
Can be connected to GPRS service and GSM service (voice, SMS), but using only one or the other at a given time. During GSM service (voice call or SMS), GPRS service is suspended, and then resumed automatically after the GSM service (voice call or SMS) has concluded. Most GPRS mobile devices are Class B. "
Obviously this is not the case.

I incorrectly assumed that whilst browsing, if a voice call comes in, the phone would give priority to the call.
If I had known what I know now at the time I signed my 18M contract I would have bought a 3g Phone! Its just annoying that i'm stuck with it for another 12M. T-Mobile push the fact that they have set the internet free... but what they fail to get across to everyday users is that its "AT THE EXPENSE OF THE VOICE CALLS"
Because T-Mobile forced you to buy one of their 2.5g phones rather than one of their 3g phones?
I have no problem receiving phone calls while browsing the internet on the P3300.

Neither have I to be honest, the issue only arises while you are actively downloading data. However once the website has loaded, you are free to accept calls again whilst still looking at the site in the browser.

As a test I started downloading a dummy 32MB testfile on my P3300 (from speedtest.bbned.nl) and I called my mobile with another phone.
There was no problem; I received the call while downloading the file.
Maybe it depends on the operator? I am in Holland on T-Mobile

Hi,
It's not enough to have a class A (2G) device, but also DTM (Dual Transfer Mode/Simple Class A) support has to be active in the specific network, otherwise only 3G device on 3G network will provide Class A (simultaneous voice & data).
In fact, there are quite many models from Nokia during last year that support DTM, but as already mentioned, it's not enough.
FYI,

Is that an EDGE network ?
I got the Artemis with PV Black&Blue v3 ROM.
I can receive calls while pages are loading in IE.
I think this is a provider problem.
The phone provider has to intercept your GPRS connection and establish the GSM connection. Maybe T-Mobile just rejects calls while a GPRS connection/transfer is active.
A1 intercepts the page download and my call comes in.
When I pick up, the GPRS connection is closed completely. (not just pending)
So receiving calls while surfing is no problem for me with Austrian A1 provider.
Any other experiences?

DINC2 unlocked but doesn't recognize SIM in Panama...help!!!

hi. i just got this phone in the states before coming down to panama. it is verizon, but i called them and they gave me the code and now the phone is unlocked....but i can't get coverage here in panama. i've tried sim cards from a few of the local operators and none of them seem to work. i sure hope someone can help....here's what i've done so far: (oh, pls b patient, i'm a bit of a technophobe)
-unlocked sim. phone gives me sim lock is disabled message....that means i'm good to go, right/
-set phone to gsm only mode.
-software is androaid version 2.3.4
verizon global services told me that everything was as it should be and that the phone should work w/ a local sim card so i'm not really sure where to turn to......hopefully someone here can help. verizon also told me that the phone should work on the frequencies here. i have a claro sim card, but have also tried movistar, digicel, and masmovil. i was told that they use either 850 or 1900.
so, i'm totally stumped. hopefully i'm missing something stupid....btw, tried the sim in other phones (from europe and panama) and it worked w/ them. don't think it's a hadrware problem, but am i missing something? is there a setting change? do i need some kind of software update?
thanks!
update- get cell phone reception w/ gps on
don't know if this will help anyone get to the bottom of this issue, but i realized that when i have the gps on, i get full bar coverage. unfortunately, i can't leave the app on in the background. this makes me think it could be a hardware issue....bad antenna? anyone have any ideas
Same problem
I have the same issue as OP. Got my phone sim unlocked, and it runs on SenseMOD-2012-05-18-225643 Android 4.0.4.
For once I did a factory reset, skipped verizon activation (can´t do and won´t work because I´m not in the USA and do not have a verizon SIM or service), set my network preference to GSM/WCDMA, and the network wasn´t working.
Rebooted, my network is identified as soon as it starts, but then it goes to "No Service". Try to search for network but my carrier does not appear.
Any help?
EDIT:
Playing around with the phone, setting GSM as your network and restarting the phone let me make phone calls. No internet though and the APN was configured correctly. The "E" symbol for the internet blinked once in a while, but never got service.
Also, playing around some more, got my phone to not recognize the network again by removing the SIM another time. This sucks.

M8 does not receive calls on 4G, works when I switch it to 3G.

I have a HTC One M8, AT&T, TWRP recovery, flashed and rooted with ICE 8.2.2; SuperSu.
When I am connected to 4G/LTE and someone calls me, it rings on their end but my phone does nothing. I checked my IMEI and see LTE is supported. When I switch my mobile network from 2G/3G/4G (auto) to 2G/3G (auto), it connects (H, H+ icon) and my phone receives incoming phone calls. My SIM card does not mention "4G" or "LTE". I have yet to try the SIM in another phone yet but plan to tonight.
Just to help me out with my thought process on figuring out the issue I'm going to think out loud for a second:
Put my SIM in another phone and make sure 4G/LTE is on, check if it receives calls. If it works, the issue is my phone or ROM. If it doesn't work, SIM card is the issue.
Also, from what I understand, phones on 4G switch to 3G when a call comes in and my phone may not be doing that. Is there a fix for this?
EDIT: As additional info, I am able to make outgoing calls without issue on 4G.
Are you actually using AT&T as your cell provider?
Yes, and I made sure my APN settings are correct.
It's a known issue. AT&T's implementation of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) which they call "HD Voice" for some reason interferes with voice calls on custom ROMs on this device.
No real fix, aside from calling AT&T and asking them to turn off the HD Voice feature of your account. May need to ask for a 2nd Tier tech support to do it. Others here have posted they had to do that (and 1st Tier either had not clue what they were talking about, or wrongly claimed it can't be turned off).

Awesome. Thank you!
EDIT: Just finished working through the issue with an AT&T rep through online chat. Had me turn off my phone, disabled it on their end, and turned it back on. Did a test call and sure enough 4g switches to 3g as the call comes in and switches back afterwards. Problem Solved!

Question Problem to use Motorola Edge X30 in USA

Hello, first of all I want to say that my native language is Spanish and I am using the Google translator to write this, so there may be writing errors and apologize.
Buy a motorola edge x30 and the imported import from China. The phone is unlocked to be used with GSM networks from anywhere in the world. When I bought it, I was with Metro PCS but in Metro I was told that the phone was not compatible with the 3G networks of them. After that I started to investigate and find a web page called kimovil and there I saw that the edge x30 was compatible in the USA with all the networks of 3 suppliers: Cricket, AT & T and T-Mobile: I choose to use change to metro by T-Mobile.
Immediately I left the T-Mobile store after making the change I have tried and could receive and send SMS, receive and make calls, and get access to the Internet without any problem. After a couple of hours of having activated services with T-Mobile, the phone could not or receive more calls (the Internet and SMS continue to work normally, the problem is only with calls). When I try to call someone, the call is not done and says "Hanging Up". I tried everything: Factory Reset, Networks Reset, modify network configuration, everything ... and I can not solve the problem. I went to T-Mobile to tell you about my problem and they tell me that the problem is not them but my phone.
If anyone knows how to solve this problem, I would greatly appreciate the help because I feel frustrated. Thanks
I have MOTO EDGE x30 with T-Mobile. Work perfectly. Check the SIM setting.

Good afternoon. I already managed to use the Edge X30 with the T-Mobile network. You just had to put the network selector on automatic so that you can use 5G, LTE, 3G and 2G as you see fit. The problem is that I realized that the phone only calls and receives calls in 3G and 2G, which limits not only the quality of the calls but also limits your coverage to be able to make calls since you can only make them in 3G and 2G . You who also use T-Mobile, does the same thing happen to you?
I'm not sure, but it supports 5G in N1/N3/N5/N7/N8/N20/N28/N38/N41/N78 and 4G in B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B12/B17/B34/B38/B39/B40/B41. or check volte settings.
you may try to install "carrier services" app by google from the play store. it solves some of my problem with data connection.

Yes I have the same issue. Whenever I make or receive voice calls, the phone falls back from LTE to 2G. I looked everywhere on the phone for 'VOLTE' settings but could not find it. Does VOLTE work for this phone on Tmobile? Very frustrating.
Has anyone been able to find the solution for the calls switching back to 2g? I love the phone but this is extremely annoying. I'm on T-mobile. Thank you
