M8 does not receive calls on 4G, works when I switch it to 3G. - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a HTC One M8, AT&T, TWRP recovery, flashed and rooted with ICE 8.2.2; SuperSu.
When I am connected to 4G/LTE and someone calls me, it rings on their end but my phone does nothing. I checked my IMEI and see LTE is supported. When I switch my mobile network from 2G/3G/4G (auto) to 2G/3G (auto), it connects (H, H+ icon) and my phone receives incoming phone calls. My SIM card does not mention "4G" or "LTE". I have yet to try the SIM in another phone yet but plan to tonight.
Just to help me out with my thought process on figuring out the issue I'm going to think out loud for a second:
Put my SIM in another phone and make sure 4G/LTE is on, check if it receives calls. If it works, the issue is my phone or ROM. If it doesn't work, SIM card is the issue.
Also, from what I understand, phones on 4G switch to 3G when a call comes in and my phone may not be doing that. Is there a fix for this?
EDIT: As additional info, I am able to make outgoing calls without issue on 4G.

Are you actually using AT&T as your cell provider?

Yes, and I made sure my APN settings are correct.

It's a known issue. AT&T's implementation of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) which they call "HD Voice" for some reason interferes with voice calls on custom ROMs on this device.
No real fix, aside from calling AT&T and asking them to turn off the HD Voice feature of your account. May need to ask for a 2nd Tier tech support to do it. Others here have posted they had to do that (and 1st Tier either had not clue what they were talking about, or wrongly claimed it can't be turned off).

Awesome. Thank you!
EDIT: Just finished working through the issue with an AT&T rep through online chat. Had me turn off my phone, disabled it on their end, and turned it back on. Did a test call and sure enough 4g switches to 3g as the call comes in and switches back afterwards. Problem Solved!

[Q] LTE service issue on Galaxy S4 model i545 [PLEASE MOVE]

EDIT: Sorry for posting in the wrong section, can a mod please move this thread?
Hi all,
I have a question regarding my Verizon Galaxy S4 i545 model. I purchased the phone unlocked out of the States, and now have it in Canada partially working on my carrier, SaskTel. The phone seems to work fairly well, except I'm having some issues with LTE/4G service.
Basically, if I set my network mode to "LTE/CDMA" I get a perfect LTE connection, fast speeds and it works well. However, when LTE is enabled, I'm unable to send/receive any type of text message, and I'm unable to make phone calls as well. The phone itself displays that I have no service, but I can still use LTE. I phoned up my carrier to see if they could help me figure the issue out, and they said it could be because Verizon tends to complete all phone calls, and send all texts over LTE. The support rep explained that with SaskTel, phones usually drop down to 3G connectivity for a few moments when sending texts, or making a phone call, because SaskTel does phone calls and texts over 3G.
However, if I set my network mode to "GSM/UMTS" I receive a data connection through HPSA+, and can text and phone people as well. Obviously this isn't an ideal situation, because HPSA+ speeds are quite slow. (1-3Mbps download) I have found a sort of fix to this issue. To temporarily fix it, here's what I do:
-Set network mode to "GSM/UMTS"
-Clear the "Messaging" app cache
-Restart the phone
-Set network mode to "LTE/CDMA"
Then the phone can use LTE and still text and make phone calls. However if it ever loses connection, or if I enable airplane mode, once the phone regains connectivity, I have no service, but can still use LTE data.
Do you guys have any ideas of what might be causing this? I thought it might be a modem issue, but I figured most people here would know more than me on this topic. (this is my first Android device, and I've had it for about four days now)
Here are some things I've tried doing to fix the issue:
-Pop out SIM card and pop it back in
-Test different APN settings for my carrier given to me by my carrier
-Test the phone with a different SIM card from the same carrier
-Reset phone to factory defaults
None of these made any difference at all to the issue, and it seems that my "temporary fix" seems to be the only way to fix this issue. Any advice on this issue would be appreciated!

Can't place or receive calls; LTE data and SMS works fine

Hey guys, just unwrapped my new N5x and popped in my sim card. Yet for some reason I can't make or receive any calls!
Calls to me go straight to voicemail, and when making an outgoing call it either immediately says call ended or after a while says network unavailable.
The strange thing is that the entire time I'm connected to LTE (full bars) and data works fine (I can use chrome), and I can even send and receive SMS!
It's been like this straight out of the box. I reset the network settings, then factory reset the device, then upgraded to 6.0.1, rinsed and repeated with no luck.
Probably related: I tried setting the phone from LTE preferred to 3G or 2G but it still says connected to LTE. Even did it manually from the *#*#4636#*#* and nothing changed.
I'm using HOT Mobile in Israel and the American version of the phone. All bands are here are supported.
Any thoughts on how to proceed?
Do US specifc models of phones normally work fine in Israel?
I know I had these symptoms when I managed to accidentally swap my UK model to use USA bands. Only potential difference is that I don't think SMS worked for me.
If someone more knowledgeable knows where the "Network settings reset" pulls values from and to, that might help.
Or which partition holds the data that makes a US phone a US version and an EU phone an EU version (assuming it isn't hardware), we could potentially flash stuff.
Yeah they do. I have a friend with a 5x and his phone is working fine. :/
Check your apn settings, re add them again to test.
Maybe your network do not support lte calls, try it on 3g. This was my solution even thought my network supported volte and worked on s6 but not on my 5x.
I see you tried the 3g option, my problem was another app causing the conflict between lte and 3g. Able to source for another spare sim to try?
I deleted the apn settings - no luck. tried 2 different service providers and same results with both
I havnt installed anything yet and wiped the phone to be sure. Could a stock app be causing the conflict? How can I check?
did you try having your friend put his sim in your phone and yours in his to see if it works?
Yep - he's on the same service provider that I am. Didn't work. Also tried a Sim card from a different service provider.
Here is a solution if you still need it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64023143&postcount=10

6.20.502.5 ATT Firmware

Hi All,
Has anyone extracted the the firmware from the RUU? I did a quick search and just saw one with the HBOOT. Also has anyone installed the HTC RUU? Is it any good?
Thanks in advance.

Of course wnc and ckpv5 would be involved!
Guess I should have looked a little harder than searching by the numbers!
Many thanks!

If anyone is looking for an already modified version of the 6.20.502.5 firmware. I removed the boot.img and the recovery.img file and replaced the hboot file with one that has no red text. This firmware works fine on the AT&T and Developer's Edition models.
Download here.
Hey everyone in this post,
Please check to make sure that you are receiving voice calls. I just discovered that I can make outgoing calls just fine however ALL incoming calls are going directly to voicemail. I'm going to do a little more research but it looks as though I'll need to revert to an earlier firmware. I'm guessing this has something to do with HD Voice.
A couple more things of note: I'm on the latest version of ARHD which is 53.1 (MM); texts work fine both ways; data is fine; voicemail functions fine. Just to give a little background.

I'm having the same problem. I fiddled with the APN settings and it seemed (I'll try again) to fix that issue. Meaning I manually entered the APN settings and I was able to receive calls. A bit ridiculous.
Edit: It's not the APN Settings that helped. It's actually switching the preferred network from LTE to 3G or maybe even 2G. Haven't checked it on 2G.

I finally got mine working but I have no idea what the magical combination ended up being. I did downgrade to a previous 6.12 firmware but that alone didn't do the trick. I also manually added a new APN in addition to many other things one by one. I was actually on an outgoing call and my line beeped because I had a call waiting! I was so shocked (and pleased) that I hung on the person I was speaking with and answered the call. From then on it has worked fine. Having said that I'm going to sit tight with the phone the way it is until someone much smarter than me lays out a solid plan.
I'm glad you got beyond your problem as well :good:

Are you still able to receive phone calls while on 4G? Any further issues? I asked because ever since upgrading to LP firmware I no longer can receive incoming phone calls while on 4G but I can make calls. I have noticed that while on a call on 4G I can receive calls which is strange. So I have to stay on 3G to receive all incoming calls. Any ideas on a fix? Thanks

Your situation does sound similar to mine. Whatever combination of zany things that happened for me as forced my network into HSPA+ whereas it used to read LTE. I'm not referring to the icon in the status bar (that still reads 4G). If I go into Settings>About>Network>Cellular network type. That's where I see HSPA+, HSPA or HSPAP depending on where I am. My speeds are WAY slower but it's still functional, yet there's something obviously still broken. Since I can receive calls now I've decided to just "live with it" until I come across a proper solution that I know will work. If that day should ever come though, I'll be sure to post back here.
Update:
I am back to my "Cellular network type" displaying "LTE" and my download speeds also confirm this. Below are the additional steps I took to get to this point:
1. In the phone dialer enter *#*#4636#*#* (takes you to a "Phone info" screen)
2. Scroll down to "Set preferred network type" (take note of its current selection in case you need to go back)
3. Using the dropdown, select GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto
That's it. After a few seconds my data icon refreshed and I knew I was good to go. For good measure I went back to Settings>About>Network to verify my Cellular network type. Good luck.

AT&T's deployment of Voice over LTE (which they've branded "HD Voice") does not play well with international-based custom ROMs (basically, most any ROM that is not ATT based). Issues with voice calls is the common symptom.
Best workaround is to call AT&T and ask them to turn off HD Voice for your account (may need to ask for 2nd Tier tech support before you get someone who knows what you are talking about). Yes, you can turn off LTE, but that is obviously not a great option.
Other fixes (APN, firmware) are likely placebo effect at best. Went down a similar path trying to troubleshoot this problem for folks a year ago, before coming to the conclusion (Post #9): http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/help/incoming-calls-lte-mode-m8-att-arhd-34-0-t3026710

S20 Ultra Exynos missing calls intermittently

So I have used my S20 Ultra since March this year.
I've noticed that the cellular network just "sleeps" and doesn't receive calls/SMSes after some time of phone idling/usage on WiFi.
I tried googling and found many other users reporting similar issues, noticing also that it seems majority if not all are Exynos variant users (not based in US).
Personally, this is definitely not a telco provider issue as I have had this issue on my old SIM (which was working fine on my old phone) and new SIM that I recently got after switching providers to see if the issue went away.
For me, sometimes the calls come in a few minutes late, and then the phone rings but when picking up, the call just gets stuck because the other party is no longer calling.
This is particularly noticeable as due to mostly staying home during COVID-19.
Toggling flight mode to "wake" the cellular network makes the phone be able to receive calls again.

I also have this issue (S20+ exynos, dual sim). I use wifi at home/work and I had several missed calls and delayed text messages during this time.
Now I turned on the text alerts about the missed calls. At least when my phone connects again to the network I get these notifications.
I am also having this issue. People call and it rings out at their end but not at my end. Is there any fix?
Try switching the active number to slot 2. I tried it for a couple of days and I think it was better. I have switched back to slot 1 to monitor as I just got the ATE6 update and wanna see if it changed anything.
I had this issue and figured out what was causing it. You need to disable VoLTE if you are not registered to use this service on your carrier's network.

My sim cards are already registered to use VoLTE, my carrier notified me a few months ago about it.
I tried to disable VoLTE on both sim cards. It was OK for 2 weeks until now.
I got a new missed call notification text message and after 5 minutes a message from the caller.
Now I enabled VoLTE again for one sim card. Let's see if there will be more missed calls with this setting.

Question Problem to use Motorola Edge X30 in USA

Hello, first of all I want to say that my native language is Spanish and I am using the Google translator to write this, so there may be writing errors and apologize.
Buy a motorola edge x30 and the imported import from China. The phone is unlocked to be used with GSM networks from anywhere in the world. When I bought it, I was with Metro PCS but in Metro I was told that the phone was not compatible with the 3G networks of them. After that I started to investigate and find a web page called kimovil and there I saw that the edge x30 was compatible in the USA with all the networks of 3 suppliers: Cricket, AT & T and T-Mobile: I choose to use change to metro by T-Mobile.
Immediately I left the T-Mobile store after making the change I have tried and could receive and send SMS, receive and make calls, and get access to the Internet without any problem. After a couple of hours of having activated services with T-Mobile, the phone could not or receive more calls (the Internet and SMS continue to work normally, the problem is only with calls). When I try to call someone, the call is not done and says "Hanging Up". I tried everything: Factory Reset, Networks Reset, modify network configuration, everything ... and I can not solve the problem. I went to T-Mobile to tell you about my problem and they tell me that the problem is not them but my phone.
If anyone knows how to solve this problem, I would greatly appreciate the help because I feel frustrated. Thanks
I have MOTO EDGE x30 with T-Mobile. Work perfectly. Check the SIM setting.

Good afternoon. I already managed to use the Edge X30 with the T-Mobile network. You just had to put the network selector on automatic so that you can use 5G, LTE, 3G and 2G as you see fit. The problem is that I realized that the phone only calls and receives calls in 3G and 2G, which limits not only the quality of the calls but also limits your coverage to be able to make calls since you can only make them in 3G and 2G . You who also use T-Mobile, does the same thing happen to you?
I'm not sure, but it supports 5G in N1/N3/N5/N7/N8/N20/N28/N38/N41/N78 and 4G in B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B12/B17/B34/B38/B39/B40/B41. or check volte settings.
you may try to install "carrier services" app by google from the play store. it solves some of my problem with data connection.

Yes I have the same issue. Whenever I make or receive voice calls, the phone falls back from LTE to 2G. I looked everywhere on the phone for 'VOLTE' settings but could not find it. Does VOLTE work for this phone on Tmobile? Very frustrating.
Has anyone been able to find the solution for the calls switching back to 2g? I love the phone but this is extremely annoying. I'm on T-mobile. Thank you
